Re: 'Rumble Has Been Turned Off Due To Prolonged Use'? Don't Worry, Your Switch 2 Joy-Con Probably Aren't Broken

Splash_Woman

It happened to me on Wind Waker in Dragon Roost Cavern. I hadn't heard about the issue at all and quickly paused the game in alarm, thinking I had done something dreadfully wrong. After a few seconds of clicking around the menus while trying not to panic, I unpaused it and went back to what I was doing. The rumble was working perfectly fine, and the issue has yet to pop up ever again.

Re: Review: Nintendo Switch 2 Piranha Plant Camera - Shocking Image Quality, But Its Cuteness Will Snare You

Splash_Woman

My kid really wants a Switch 2 camera, but considering neither of us will be going online any time soon and I have yet to even set up GameChat...yeah, no, there's no way I'm spending $55 on a piece of plastic we'll use to complete that one mini game on Welcome Tour before throwing it in a box, never to be seen again.

After reading this review I thought, "Huh. Off-brand, low quality, yet still super cute camera? My kid won't really care, let's see what the price is! If it's around $40 then..."

......this thing is $60. $60! To paraphrase the old adage: that's as many as six tens, and that truly is terrible.

Re: Review: Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour - Surprising, Delightful, And You Know Where It Belongs

Splash_Woman

Would I have liked this to be a pack in? Obviously, yes, and it feels even weirder that it isn't one when you get to the camera portion, which feels so much like a sales pitch that I got twitchy to find the "skip ad" button.

But on the other hand I still remember 1-2 Switch from 8 years ago, with its shallow offering and $60 price tag. And I look at the clock and notice I've been playing Welcome Tour for three hours without noticing. AND I'm only halfway done with everything.

Hot take: I'm satisfied with my purchase.

Re: How Well Do You Remember Super Mario Galaxy 2?

Splash_Woman

Galaxy 2 is one of the weirdest games for me. Facts:
1. I bought it the day it came out.
2. I reached 100% completion.
3. I really enjoyed it.
And yet...I don't remember it at all. Not a single thing. The same thing happened to me with Twilight Princess.

Re: Nintendo Defends Switch 2's Perceived Lack Of Innovation

Splash_Woman

Now that their entire install base has come to expect a hybrid TV/portable console from them I think it's going to be nearly impossible for them to stray from that design going forward. My hope is that they take the creativity that arguably may have been left on the cutting room floor with the design of the Switch 2 and use it to make some imaginative gaming experiences. I have little doubt they will!

Re: Final Fantasy VII 'Creator's Voice' Implies Rebirth May Also Come To Switch 2

Splash_Woman

I want to say it would be a no brainer for Rebirth to come out on Switch 2, but considering the technical hiccups it had at launch on PS5 I'd say it's a toss up whether we see it or not. Mind you the issues didn't bother me at all, and I played it close to launch on my vanilla PS5, but I can already hear the complaints when the textures are blurry and the frame rate stutters on a device that's only as powerful as a PS4.

If it does show up, regardless of performance, I'll be lining up for a second helping on Switch 2!

Re: Poll: After One Month, How Often Are You Actually Using 'Nintendo Today'?

Splash_Woman

Do I care much about it? Not really. Does my kid ask me to open it every morning to see what's new? Absolutely. So there you go: I think the fundamental misconception with it is that it's not even meant to be an informational app for those of us that get our news from elsewhere. It's for kids to get a daily jolt of Nintendo endorphins, and some of the stuff on it really is cute!

Re: Feature: 27 GameCube Games We'd Love To See On Nintendo Switch 2 NSO

Splash_Woman

I couldn't pick just three, there's SO many! I'm old enough to have been gaming since the NES era, and for me the Gamecube/PS2/Xbox era was hands down the pinnacle of gaming. Awesome current gen games, brilliant and innovative handheld games, the first wave of "gamer nostaglia" that brought ports of previous gen titles to modern systems...everything since then has just been chasing the same high. What a magical time!

And that's not even mentioning Donkey Konga! Not to bang my own bongos, but I'm an absolutely top tier Donkey Konga player! Or I was, anyway, it's been a looooong time!

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's GBA Library With A Classic Fire Emblem

Splash_Woman

@EarthboundBenjy I forgot about the whole FE1 debacle. I'm not the biggest Fire Emblem fan, but I did buy FE1 during that brief window of availability out of sheer panic that I would get the urge to play the series some day and not have access to the only official English language version of the first game. SO glad that the FE1/3D All Stars business model hasn't really been repeated by Nintendo since then!

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Pikmin (GameCube)

Splash_Woman

Japan's is cute, even though NA/Europe is still the winner. I almost went the other way though just on the principle of misinformation on the western cover: I would LOVE if my Pikmin ran away from danger, but those little sprouts always seem to jump right into bulborbs' mouths!

Re: One Of The Best EarthBound-Inspired Indie RPGs Is Finally Confirmed For Switch

Splash_Woman

@Romoredux I feel that one. Like all of my SNES games, the Earthbound box is long gone. The guide is still on my bookshelf, but it's been abused by water damage, something sticky, time, and the love of child me. There was a moment, a moment I still remember, when my mom and I stood over a bargain bin at Best Buy, staring down at a sea of $20 CIB copies of Earthbound, only one of which became mine. I often wonder where I might be now if my mom had had the foresight in 1995 to buy multiple copies. What if...

Re: One Of The Best EarthBound-Inspired Indie RPGs Is Finally Confirmed For Switch

Splash_Woman

Now, as a life long Earthbound fan, I find the term "Earthbound-inspired" to be overused, or perhaps used incorrectly. While certainly you can be inspired by Earthbound to make something new (I know I was when I wrote my first novel) that doesn't necessarily mean your end product has any correlation to its inspiration. Earthbound-Inspired has always seemed like a catch all for "weird, old school RPG with a modern setting" that misses the point that Earthbound had an undefinable secret sauce that held the thing together in a way most imitators can't match, at least not in the same way.

This is my first time hearing anything about this game. Based on the trailer...yeah, this looks like it has the potential to bring some Mother series vibes. "Earthbound-Inspired" indeed! I'm interested!

Re: Talking Point: Does Switch 2 Have Nintendo's Best Launch Line-Up Ever?

Splash_Woman

I had the time and gave each title on the lists above a number based on how much I liked them now and how much I was excited for them then. I thought, "Wow, this'll be a neat and objective way to answer the question!"

...the Wii U came out on top thanks to sheer volume...so don't ever hire me to track statistics for you or anything like that...

I mean, the Wii U version of Arkham City IS the best version, and I like NSMBU better than most but...yeah...
