Re: Review: Mouse: P.I. For Hire (Switch 2) - A Bold, Risk-Taking FPS, And A Fine Achievement

Splash_Woman

Not sure if this game is for me, but just wanted to point out that the reviewer found the first 1-2 hours of this 11 hour game to be less stellar than the others, which would very roughly break down to 10% meh, 90% great; in otherwords, a 9/10. I don't put much stock into review scores, but based on that statistic alone I don't think I've seen another game be reviewed so spot on before!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (18th April)

Splash_Woman

I paid off one of my credit cards yesterday (huzzah!) and in the process of making sure everything was shut down properly before sending it to a farm upstate, aka a locked drawer where it will never be touched again, I discovered I had enough rewards points for $75 in eShop gift cards. Guess who got Pragmata for free!!

Re: Talking Point: What Would You Want From A New Star Fox Game?

Splash_Woman

I really, really, REALLY love Star Fox 64, but...I don't know. At the end of the day, I can't think of what else I would like from this series. 64 is fun enough, but the majority of my enjoyment comes from the bonkers line delivery. I can't imagine a modern take on Star Fox producing a performance of the line "Daddy screamed reeeeeeal good before he DIED!" that would hit quite the same way.

Re: Review: Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream (Switch) - BREAKING NEWS: Mii Life Is Still Bizarre, Hilarious, And A Bit Samey

Splash_Woman

I think I'm getting so worked up in this comment section mainly because my daughter is crazy hyped for this game, and it makes me so sad that a simple option on the character select screen is bringing forth a discussion like this. I normally try not to post anything remotely combative, because I have yet to truly see someone change their mind in real time on the internet. Debating like this is a fool's errand, so let me be a fool.

@Eturad If I may, please do a little Ctrl+F on my prior comment. I never once used the terms "hate" or "bigotry". I was raised Presbyterian, went to Lutheran school, and my mother is now a devout Catholic. I understand, more than most, that viewpoints such as yours and those of @DadJKP are not intended with hate. You're sharing your viewpoint, and I understand that, I really do.

But as you tell me to think outside my bubble, you yourself reveal that you are in an extremely Christian environment. Again, there is nothing wrong with that, but...like, come on. That's about as bubbly as it gets. And bubbles are fine! It's fine to spend all of your time with like minded people! It's fine to be who you are!

It's not fine when someone claims their bubble is better than someone else's, or when attacks are launched with the intent of popping someone else's bubble (wow, this is a versatile metaphor, the more I dig into it!) I honestly don't care what you think of me, I really don't. And I hope you know that I don't have a problem with you being you. I wish absolutely no harm on anyone, and I know you don't wish harm on me either.

But don't claim that I'm projecting my experiences on others, when all I'm really saying is...guys, just lighten up. No one is coming to get you. Where I'm from, there's still a church on every corner, and each one is packed on Sunday morning. Faith, family, and morality is safe, strong, and healthy. No one needs to throw a fit every time something inclusive happens.

Re: Review: Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream (Switch) - BREAKING NEWS: Mii Life Is Still Bizarre, Hilarious, And A Bit Samey

@DadJKP I don't want to keep wading into these waters, but you do realize why people are defensive on this issue, right? There is no version of society in which entering a heteronormative relationship and producing offspring becomes somehow illegal or shunned by society, but there IS a grave threat to the livelihoods of people like me who are just trying to live their lives outside of the established Western norms of society. Rights are actively being stripped away from queer folks, which tends to put people a lil' bit on edge.

You will be fine. Your own personal definition of morality will be fine. With each passing day my future seems less and less certain.

And yes, your morality is your opinion, not a statement of objective fact. ALL morality is subjective, even the biggies. Thankfully everyone agrees that murder and theft is wrong, but it's not like a big hand comes out of the sky to get you if you commit those offenses; we collectively agreed not to do that. The large percentage of the population that disagrees with you (and, yes, it is a sizeable chunk of people, even offline) says to me that, quite objectively, we haven't come to a unanimous consensus on the morality of anything that falls under the banner of LGBTQ. Heck, even Christians don't all agree on whether or not gay marriage is okay, let alone any other system of belief.

So while you can decide to look down your nose and criticize those you think are destroying the world as you know it, the world is going to keep spinning around just fine. Men and women will keep falling in love, babies will get made, and Tomodachi Life will have an option to make a teddy bear non-binary...because, you know, a teddy bear is literally non-binary. And probably doesn't want to date anyone.

Re: Movie Review: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie - A Faithful But Overstuffed Sequel

Splash_Woman

It was about a third of the way into the first movie at the theater that I had the thought, "Gosh...this is a really disappointing movie, isn't it?" I left feeling pretty hollow, and honestly longed for the horrid weirdness of the original live action Mario movie abomination.

I have seen the first one about twenty times now, because my daughter LOVES it. Like the review says, these movies weren't made for me; they're made for her.

I don't expect to like this movie, but we'll be there this weekend to see it regardless. And since this time I have my expectations set all the way to 0, hopefully I'll get a smile or two out of it.

Re: Poll: Who's Your Favourite Resident Evil Villain?

Splash_Woman

There may be better choices in terms of character/impact, but considering the following:
-My wife and I will randomly sneak up behind each other and declare "Welcome to the family, son!" to this day for no reason
-I have an urge to call everyone with Kennedy as a last name "Meester Scott Kennedeee".
-I cannot read the name Chris without thinking (in a gurgling, snarling, 'bout-to-get-rocket-launchered-in-a-pool-of-lava tone) "CHRIIIIIIIIIIIIS"

It had to be Jack Baker, Salazar, and Wesker!

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Pokémon 30th Anniversary Edition

Splash_Woman

I went with Gen 1. No offense to any of the covers, as they do genuinely all look good (and I always love when series find a motif and stick with it), of all of the "I downloaded a .png off the wiki and slapped it against a background" looking covers, at least Gen 1 says "I took the time to draw a Pokémon, cut it out, then slapped it against a background!"

Re: Review: The Disney Afternoon Collection (Switch 2) - A Delightful Yet Difficult '90s Throwback

Splash_Woman

I mean, compared to its NES contemporaries, sure, I suppose you could say Darkwing Duck is "lacking", but it's FAR from the worst Mega Man game. And yes, I've always considered it to be a Mega Man game, he just happens to look like a crime fighting duck for some reason. And he has a gas gun. And Dr. Wily turned into a mob boss rooster due to a horrible accident (hence the steel beak.)

Re: Pokémon Pinball Teased By Stern Pinball, Prices Start At $6,999

Splash_Woman

I remember reading about this company's Star Wars cabinet and thinking "How can this thing possibly be worth $7K?" But then I actually saw one and Costco and played it a little and, welp, nope, still don't know how it's worth $7K, but it sure was neat. I assume this will be equally as neat. And equally not worth $7K.

Re: Nintendo Restricting Some Image Sharing Features For Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream

Splash_Woman

I think this is not the solution to the potential issue, but I spotted a potential issue the moment they were talking about making a Mii of "someone you really admire". There's going to be a lot of people on this making their crushes do things the crush doesn't consent to, which could lead to awkward and possibly traumatic confrontations on social media. I know, I know, there's nothing stopping anyone from doing something similar in games like The Sims, but other life sims don't have the backing of Nintendo, either. Turning off easy image sharing probably isn't the way to go, but it is a sign they can point to if any pitchforks come out to say "See? We tried!"

Re: Opinion: A Big Life Change Means I'm Happy To Wait For A Brand New Animal Crossing

Splash_Woman

Congrats!!

I entered some sort of fugue state at the beginning of December, thought "Yeah, sure, I've got the money to do this", and bought my 7 year old daughter her own Switch 2 for Christmas. Even though we already owned Animal Crossing, the ONLY thing on her Christmas list this year was the 3.0 update. Regardless of how many times we told her that wasn't really something that Santa could deliver, that was the end-all gift, so I decided she might like her own copy of the game to start her own island separate from mine. And, hey, if said island is on the Switch 2 edition (and if our original Switch 2 suddenly becomes all mine 🤫), then that's all the better!

Not only has playing Animal Crossing together over the past month brought us closer, she's learning patience, she's expressing creativity in ways I haven't seen before, and she's doing it all at her own pace in her own weird, unique way. Sure, she has a pile of fossils just sitting outside her museum, and half the island hasn't been weeded, but have you seen how awesome her house looks!? Not to mention she's WAY further in Happy Home Paradise than I ever had the patience for.

And it's not just us playing together, either. My dad and his spouse never stopped playing for even a day since 2020, and all of a sudden we've both been let in to this part of their life that we haven't seen before, flying back and forth to each other's islands almost nightly and, honestly, spending more time with them than I have since my daughter was born. I'm not going to say Animal Crossing is necessarily life changing, but it's been fun to find something that really clicks with my whole family.

She really needs to either sell or donate those fossils, though...

Re: Nintendo Switch's Hulu App Will Be Discontinued Next Month

Splash_Woman

My spouse and I used to watch Hulu on the Switch when we stayed in hotels without a smart TV. Plenty of good(?) memories of trying to get comfortable on a strange mattress while attempting to balance the Switch on a pillow, a process made nearly impossible thanks to the OG's stand. We haven't used it in years, but it's still bittersweet to see it get the axe. Say what you will about the Switch "not needing it", but considering it obviously has the capability to do so it's WILD to me that one of the most popular tablets in the world doesn't have more streaming apps, let alone a web browser.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition

Splash_Woman

As a USA gal, our cover will always be iconic. But beyond just looking better overall, I actually took a trip to Denmark in 2007 and bought a copy of this for the Wii while I was over there, so that cover will always be a bit special to me! And yes, the Wii version IS hands down the best version.

Re: Censored Dispatch Artwork Spotted On Nintendo's Digital Storefront

Splash_Woman

I think what bothers me the most about this is that they scrambled so quick to find the big red emergency "Hide the Cleavage" button that they couldn't even be bothered to redraw the star on the middle girl's swimsuit. "Nope, just paint over the whole thing, we can't let the children see God's dirty mistake!"

"But sir, won't they see even MORE exposed breasts if their parents take them to a water park over the summer!?"

"HA! In THIS economy!?"

Re: Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties Is Getting Its Own Direct Right Before Christmas

Splash_Woman

Playing 0 Director's Cut earlier this year finally cracked this series open for me after years of trying! I just finished Kiwami 2 and moved onto LAD: Ishin to pass the time (it's on sale on NA PSN for $12 right now). I'm waiting until this comes out to continue Kiryu's story, it's wild to me that after all these years I'll actually, excitedly be playing a Yakuza/LAD release at launch!

Re: Mega Man Star Force: Legacy Collection Continues The Celebration March 2026

Splash_Woman

It's a LUDICROUSLY good time to be a Mega Man fan! Dual Overide (aka Mega Man 12) was announced, this got a release date, my hand drawn guide to Mega Man 1 is on the way, AND after 16ish years The Protomen put out Act 3! This is all in the span of a month! I don't know whether to be elated at the bounty or terrified that the series will inevitably go back into hibernation after all of this is said and done.

Re: Opinion: Resident Evil Requiem Needs To Solve The Series' Villain Problem

Splash_Woman

As one of the uncultured rabble that hopped onto the series with Resident Evil 4, and who has never played Code Veronica, I've always associated the franchise with green herbs, upgradable guns, ridiculous tentacle monsters, and over the top nonsense rather than any overarching villain or...you know, any plot to speak of. From where I'm standing Wesker wasn't even around all that long. Heck, he himself told me he only had seven minutes to play with me!

Re: Random: Four Legendary Devs Walk Into A Bar... And We're So Very Jealous

Imagine the conversations, eh?

Suda51: "Hey guys, I've got this weird rash on my back, you think I should get it looked at?"

Sakurai: "Yeah, that's not great."

Ueda: "I think I've got some cream back in the car, I'll let you borrow some."

Mikami: "I gotta take a leak, be right back."

Sakurai: "Come on, stop picking at it, you're making it worse!"

Suda51: "But it itches SO BAD!"
