Re: Review: Pokémon Champions (Switch) – The Most Accessible & Flawed Competitive Pokémon Has Ever Been

ShadLink

@SpaceboyScreams At the time of my post it was above 50%. And I have played it, true there are some bugs. But I don't think it's a bad game. It does exactly what it set out to do. And I do actually like that it makes it easier to play ranked matches.

So I gave it (for now) an 8/10. If they fix the most glaring issues within the first 3 months I might increase that to an 8.5.

Yeah, it's very clear that this game wasn't finished upon release. I do hope we'll see regular updates to it.

I do like the game though. I bought the starter pack, and that is enough for 99% of the players for this game. It does depend on you being able to win some online battles and if you have Pokémon Home. Without Home the game isn't that great.

I am currently giving it a 8/10. The game is playable and does what it is set out to do. However the bugs are making it a bit lower score. I will wait for 3 months until I give it a final score, usually enough time for this kind of game to be updated.

Re: PSA: You Can Now Download Pokémon Champions On Switch

@SillyG Pokémon from Home 'visit' so you can send them back to Home. You can't send (other) Pokémon from Champions to Home. Also getting the starter pack gives you 80 Pokémon in the box. Sure it's not much, but that would just require you to only put Pokémon in your Box you want to use in your Battle Teams.

Adding 1000+ Pokémon is more like using it as a seperate Pokémon home.

Re: Video: Pokémon Champions 'World Overview' Trailer Released

@BrazillianCara Sure some have single player tutorials. Or an entire single player campaign (Splatoon). But with Pokémon you absolutely already have single player versions (ie. the rpg games). To me games like Splatoon are actually 2 games in one. And then with a lot of effort become a very good game that does both. But a game that is purely focused on multiplayer and designed to give the best multiplayer experience you can have with Pokémon (let's hope so) , I am happy they don't waste time developing a half baked single player mode.

Also it's a free to start game. Those usually don't have purely single player campaigns. Sure I get wanting a different game, but then just wait until that game is made.

Re: Round Up: It's April Fools' Day, Here Are The Best Gaming Gags We've Seen (2026)

People, I have seen something very awesome.

An early version of the Nintendo Switch 3D. It plays any Switch or Switch 2 game in full 8K240. It also plays Nintendo Switch 3D games, these games are designed like Nintendo 3DS games to be played in full stereoscopic 3D without need for glasses. For TV mode you need a 3D TV in order to use 3D.

(The Nintendo Switch 3D will work without 3D and works with 2D TVs as well. )

The launch game is The Legend of Zelda Breath of Fresh Wind. A new sequel to The Wind Waker, in which you can sail anywhere in a massive open Ocean with hundreds of Islands.

The System will launch next year on April 1st. And cost $1337 for the base model. You will need to buy RAM seperately.

April fools obviously

@Flashlink99 Actually they tried to go for the character stare at the viewer thing that was kind of common for some horror movies back in that time. True the execution isn't perfect, but it's also an old game.

Bascially it's breaking the fourth wall. By looking directly at the viewer. You take a picture or a shot just of the characters head/face*. Because that would force them to make eye contact with the camera/viewer. Most movies / TV shows avoid this at all cost since it does break the fourth wall and destroys the suspense of disbelieve. However some movies actually do this with that purpose.

*) This is different for an upper body shot, because then the character is looking at something BEHIND the camera and not AT the camera.

@squiddu-real Yeah a more efficient chip will give you better battery life.. but with a smaller battery you also take away this battery life. A more efficient chip with the same battery will have a better battery life than one with a replaceable battery. Every. Single. Time.

“ maybe im stupid but "just update the cable" in reference to letting it charge with higher wattage... sounds ridiculous.”
Update as in replace. (English is not my first language) The cable should always support the highest standard. The only thing that then matters is the power draw of the device and the power delivery of the charger. Which, again, can easily be labelled.

With USB-C when you buy a new device (without a charger, thanks to the EU), you will most likely also need a new charger and a new cable. Also this cable will be incompatible with other devices. For example; I recently bought a new monitor. Which has USB-C as an input. It came with a nice cable. Which could charge my MacBook with 100W and will output the display. But when connected to my Windows laptop it will charge at 5W and it will not show my Laptop screen on the monitor. (Windows laptop does HDMI over USB-C, MacBook does DisplayPort/Thunderbolt over USB-C).

My standard would split this in 2 (or three if we also split-off video output) cables. One that will charge both my MacBook and PC laptop at 100W. And one cable that will display my windows/mac screen on the monitor. I created a new standard for the cable, not just a new connector.

Re: Europe Might Be Forcing Nintendo To Revise The Switch 2

@squiddu-real Sure they can also make the device 0,5cm thicker. But it’s an absolute fact that making a battery easily replaceable will require additional hardware (a case for the battery, screws to fasten it, etc.). Which always will require more space for the battery. Space that cannot be occupied by battery cells. Which means ALWAYS a lower capacity battery.

On the USB-C side. Sure every device can charge at 5 watt. But for a laptop or even a tablet, that’s commonly not enough.
With one standard cable I am talking about one cable that does one thing. USB-C is power+data, which makes it incompatible most of the times because of mutually exclusive standards. (Try getting DP-Alt + HDMI alt on USB-C, nope not happening)

We need a power cable. + - ground and request (wattage/voltage). This cable should connect to universal chargers that all list which wattages/voltages they support. With a very clear labelling. (Non-existent with USB-C) And separately we need a data cable. Again with very clear labelling.

Faster data possible? Just update the cable.
More power profiles required? Just update the cable.

Re: Europe Might Be Forcing Nintendo To Revise The Switch 2

ShadLink

@Yosher Yeah same charger plug. But…. But…. Not all devices have the same power requirements. Which means that you now have 10-20 different chargers and 10-20 different cables THAT ALLL have different capabilities and wattages without any clear labelling. So everytime you plug a device in you have to play a game of “Which charger” roulette followed by a game of “Which cable roulette.”

Forcing USB-C on every device is just plain stupid. They should first have made a Standard that would work with every device before enforcing it.

Re: Europe Might Be Forcing Nintendo To Revise The Switch 2

ShadLink

People already complain about battery life on the Switch 2. Making it replaceable will ONLY decrease the capacity of the battery. (You need more space for screws etc.) Same as with the MacBook Neo, which has a lower capacity battery compared to other MacBooks. So no, I do not see this as a positive.

Re: PSA: Switch 2 Update Adds Handheld Mode Boost, Here's How To Use It

ShadLink

Just tried it with Pokémon Legends Arceus. Which sadly does not have any updates for the Switch 2. It's not a night/day difference, but it IS noticable to see the resolution bump.

But it does indeed block the touchscreen in most games. So that is a bit of a drawback. I wish we could configure this on a per game basis. Also it has no difference for games that were updated for Switch 2 (not Switch 2 editions). It ofcourse, has no effect on Switch 2 games
