Re: PSA: Don't Expect Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition To Include The DLC

ShadLink

@BrintaPap

@ShadLink okay tell me why when I put a new cpu/gpu in my pc the game will be able run better without any external input from the devs? Or should the devs/publishers from the pc should also ask for more money because we upgraded.

If they add new features. Then yes. And most do. You can already play ACNH on Switch 2 and it will run better than on the original hardware. You can even just run the Switch 1 version of the FREE!!! 3.0.0.0 update on Switch 2 when it releases next year.

Sony (with some games line Last of Us) got flack from paid graphical upgrades yet somehow Nintendo gets way less flack for the same paid upgrade nonsense.

Sony got flack for that because they first made all upgrades free, but then figured that wasn't financially viable so they started charging money for them.

The only reason they do it is because they know people are “smart” enough to pay. The upgrade is already there you really just need to pay to unlock a game making full use of the Switches 2 capability.

The upgrade is there once you pay for it. Or not if you don't. When I go to the groceries store I can't leave without paying just by saying "the stuff is already in my cart."

Is giving a better running to game to your customers really that weird?

Which they did for free on most games, including ACNH. It runs better on Switch 2 than on Switch 1. But when they start adding Switch 2 specific new features they want to be paid for that. Logical.

Truly I don’t understand why people defend billion dollar company. But I’m curious to your reasoning.

Defending? That groceries store I talked about before, is about 10x the size of Nintendo. They will absolutely call the cops when I leave without paying. And rightfully so.

Let me ask you a question? Do you have a paying job? Have you asked your boss where your salary comes from? Maybe you should then know the answer to your question.

Re: PSA: Don't Expect Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition To Include The DLC

ShadLink

@BrintaPap Switch 2 upgrades add new functionality to the games they are released for.

Nintendo also has a LOT of FREE!!! updates for Switch 1 games on Switch 2.

I feel it's fair when substantial new features are added you should pay for them. Also ACNH is getting A BIG FREE update on Switch 1 and 2!!!!

I really don't understand that people DEMAND stuff to be free. That's not how the world works.

Re: PSA: Don't Expect Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition To Include The DLC

ShadLink

@datamonkey How can a €5 upgrade be €25 more expensive? Animal Crossing on Switch is still €59,95 (eShop, my nintendo shop), the Animal Crossing + Switch 2 upgrade is €64,95 and the Switch 2 upgrade is €5.

Those are MSRPs, if a store has discounted ACNH by €25 you can get it with the DLC as well. Just then buy the discounted Switch game, the €25 dlc and the €5 upgrade. No issues there.
And honestly I can't find a single store that sells ACNH Switch for €34,95 new in box.

The Kirby and the Forgotten Land Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World is a €20 Switch 2 Editon upgrade. So it included new content for the price.

Re: Talking Point: When Did 'Good Enough' Become Good Enough For Pokémon?

ShadLink

@Waluigi451 I bought my first Pokémon game (Yellow) back when I was playing Baldur's Gate 2. Right after it's release in 2000. (Europe) I really disliked the slow battles in Pokémon at first. Baldur's Gate even back then was a full action RPG. No slow turn based battles. And even though it looked awesome on the GBC I had back then, it felt slow and tedious.

I know that I never completed that Pokémon Yellow game. And I rather soon switched to Pokémon Gold (and later Crystal). By then I have accepted that Pokémon was a slow game and had a lot of fun with it.

Legends Z-A and Legends Arceus, for me at least, made me think back of those good old Action RPGs which - to this day - is still my favorite genre. (Though I don't really mind the turn based fights in Baldur's Gate 3) And yes, I know battles in PLA are still turn based, but they are A LOT faster.

And honestly with this site, espeically the reviewers, I have the issue that they think Pokémon New Snap is awesome because of it's graphics. But that game is basically an on-rails shooter with an unlocked camera. There are no battles, no catching and a limited amount of Pokémon. It's a game I lost interest in within a couple of hours of me first playing it. It's a pretty picture, but a terrible game. A game I would rank a 4/10 at best.

Re: Talking Point: When Did 'Good Enough' Become Good Enough For Pokémon?

ShadLink

It's not resency bias. It's a set of retro glasses.

Gen 1 was a terrible gen by modern standards. Even for Pokémon. Games were buggy, had a weird thing with Ghost / Psychic, too easy, good (bad) AI, badge boost glitch.

Gen 2 had weird Gym levels in the middle of the game.

To me Pokémon have always been medium quality at best up until X & Y. Which added 3D to Pokémon, real character custimisation, and was basically my favorite game up until Legends Arceus. Which to me, is still the best Pokémon game.

Pokémon Legends Z-A is a good number 2. Just becuase I liked the catching mechanic in Legends Arceus more. The battles in Z-A are near perfect, the story is good, the graphics (except some flat buildings) are great, music is top notch.

@N00BiSH That's basically the Legends-subseries. Those games break with tradional gameplay, and for me those changes make them the best.

Re: Microsoft On Its Gaming Business Going Forward: "We Want To Be Everywhere"

ShadLink

Actually it's because Microsoft is requiring a yearly 30% profit for XBOX that they are doing this.

See this YT video of Bellular News: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-vYhK0M7pg

It's sad to see, but I don't think XBOX will reach 2030. Or it will go full 3rd party or they will sell it. Or they will just not care and replace it with AI.

I am not really an XBOX gamer, but competition is always good. And when that goes away both Sony and Nintendo don't have any reasons to keep console prices down. PS6 is still happening, and I expect Sony to make it a hybrid console like the Switch. XBOX is getting a new "console" as well, but I've already seen rumors that it's going to run Windows 11 with the XBOX app in full screeen (like the handhelds) on boot. So basically a move from console to a PC. After that, I'm sure, MS will start selling 'Windows XBOX edition' for third parties and custom builds. And XBOX as a platform will be dead and burried.

Re: Super Mario 3D All-Stars Updated To Version 1.1.4, Improves Gameplay On Switch 2

ShadLink

I am at least happy they keep updating this game, even though they no longer offer it on sale. If you can find a physical copy somewhere (still possible) you can still get the update. Or if you have purchased it before.

And with Super Mario Galaxy 1+2, Super Mario 64 being on NSO. You can get most games on Switch (2) as well. All when they release Super Mario Sunshine on NSO.

Re: "Go Tell Nintendo" - Ex-Blizzard President Responds After Xbox Calls Exclusives "Antiquated"

ShadLink

Years ago with the launch of a new iPad Apple asked the question: "What is a PC?"

I actually want to ask a question now: "What is an XBOX?" since I don't know anymore.

Exclusivity works for Nintendo because their console has an identity. You buy a Nintendo console (mainly) to play Nintendo games. Why would you buy an XBOX? A cheap option to play Call of Duty. That's all.

Sony also releases games on PC. Simply because PC gamers are not going to buy a PS5. And it being more expensive these days than ever before, mean simply that people choose one platform and stick with it. Nintendo being relatively cheap means, they don't need to do that. (Though some Nintendo games should get a PC release like 2-3 years after the console version)

Re: UK Charts: Pokémon Legends: Z-A Is The Smallest Retail Launch Since 'Let's Go!' In Europe

ShadLink

This title is entirely misleading. Physical sales might be lower, however Digital sales aren't mentioned. At all. More people buy digital than with Legends Arceus.

Also the Switch 2 isn't a year old yet. So it should be more comparible to the Let's Go games. Which it is actually outselling physically.

Anyone thinking this game is a flop sales wise is just lying to themselves.

Re: Best Pokémon Games Of All Time

ShadLink

@Coffee-Waffle You don't have to agree with my list.

Anyway after replaying some of X & Y on my aging 3DS.. I am going to update it's position to number 3. Z-A is number 2.

And honestly Gen 1 is an extremely glitchy mess, with multiple gameplay breaking bugs. Sure they started the series, but they really didn't age well.
My list is purely based on how I feel about them if I would be playing them today. And then Gen 1 for example Psychic vs Ghost, badge boost glitch, weird implementation of critical moves just degrade it to a very low spot on my list. Yellow was a little bit better, but not much. Gold and Silver weren't without issues, like weird Gym levels. Crystal is again a little bit better.. and so on. Sun / Moon were dead last because of the tediously slow tutorial / first Island, and honestly not being very fun at all. Ultra Sun / Ultra Moon sped up the tutorial a little bit so.. a little bit better.

Re: Best Pokémon Games Of All Time

ShadLink

@FishyS I feel like if they combined the catching mechanic and crafting from Legends Arceus with the battles from Z-A and then add a big open world like Scarlet & Violet they'd have the perfect Pokémon game.

And I feel like, the Switch 2 could actually handle that.

Re: Best Pokémon Games Of All Time

ShadLink

I disagree 1000% with the lowest place for Z-A, it should be at least at place 2 or 3. With Legends: Arceus on place 1. Since those are the games that actually transformed the Pokémon formula the most.

Pokémon X/Y would then be the other one on Spot 2-3. Sun/Moon would be the lowest and UltraSun/UltraMoon slightly above.

So:
22. Sun/Moon
21. UltraSun / UltraMoon
20. Red/Blue
19. Yellow.
18. Gold/Silver
17. Crystal
16. HeartGold / SoulSilver
15. Let's Go Pikachu / Eevee
14. FireRed LeafGreen
13: Black/White
12: Black 2 / White 2
11: Ruby / Sapphire
10: OmegaRuby / AlphaSapphire (because of post game content)
09: Emerald
08: Diamond / Pearl
07: Platinum
06: Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl
05: Sword & Shield
04: Scarlet & Violet
03: X/Y
02: Legends Z-A
01: Legends Arceus

Updated after playng X on my 3DS.

Re: My Nintendo Store Adds A New Metroid Reward For Switch Online Members (US)

ShadLink

@Moistnado
PSN+:
Pay to be allowed to use your own internet.
Pay to be allowed to use specific features of your own console, that you paid for.

XBOX Live Gold
Pay to be allowed to use your own internet.
Pay to be allowed to use specific features of your own console, that you paid for.

Is there any difference here...? Sadly yes, Playstation gamers and XBOX gamers don't complain about it.
Also with price increases both cost more per month than NSO per year.

Re: Nintendo's Trademarking 'Virtual Console' Again, But Don't Get Your Hopes Up

ShadLink

I'd rather see (3)DS games being remade for the Switch 2 than seeing a less than playable emulation (touchscreen) on the Switch 2. For example Spirit Tracks op Switch 2 would be awful controlling link without a stylus.
Mouse mode could work, but you shouldn't need to rely on that.

The Switch / Switch 2 capative touchscreen is not designed for the fine controls of a resisitive touchscreen like on the DS models and Wii U. Nor does it have an EMR / Wacom layer to do something similar.

They could do something silly like make a second screen connect to the USB-C port of the Switch 2 (top or bottom) and allow it to be used as a touchscreen with a stylus. But I don't see that happening either.
