Re: Random: Steam's Brand New Game Console Sure Looks Awfully Familiar

@0_Cassiel_0 Yes, you can do that with a PC. But only after manually configuring it to do so. I have yet to see an actual PC that you take out of it's box, connect to a TV and play games on. (actual console experience) This will do so.

Playing Steam Big Picture on a TV from a PC is ofcourse possible. But at least you have to install Steam on it and enable it to autostart in Big Picture mode.

The Steam Machine / SteamDeck are consoles and they are PCs. Those terms aren't mutually exclusive. Or any PS3 capable of running "other OS" is also a PC.

@0_Cassiel_0 Well, you can use it as a console though. Like with the SteamDeck.

You can just connect it to a screen, grab a controller and play. It's of course also a full PC, with desktop mode on SteamOS, any other Linux distro and (if Valve keeps the drivers updated) Windows.

Also the SteamDeck is not a niche product. The precentage of Linux users on Steam has been on the rise ever since Valve released it. Sure, it's not a Switch competition product, but it never meant to be.

@TryToBeHopeful I don't know why they did that. Maybe a different translation could be the reason. But if they ever were going to add themes, I think they would've done so by now.

I could've seen them do so on Switch 2 at launch, but I do feel they wanted to keep parity between the Switch and Switch 2 OS as much as possible (though there are some stylistic differences and there is GanmeChat)

The Switch 2 does have more RAM dedicated JUST for the OS compared to the Switch. So memory shouldn't be an issue there. But I don't think it will happen. At least until Nintendo stops selling / producing Switch 1.

Re: Nintendo Releases A Storefront App For Android And iOS

@Waluigi451 Honestly on a shopping app you could use it to guide your choices for new games to buy. On a Switch... honestly i would be quite pointless, except for maybe in the eShop. "You played the previous game in this series fore 300 hours" or something like that.

@BrintaPap "I mean increased/performance when you buy better hardware. No game dev/publisher ever did this on PC."

Oké. I'll open Steam. I enter the words "Remastered" in the search box. AND SEE HERE HUNDEREDS OF GAMES IMPROVED FOR BETTER HARDWARE THAT REQUIRE REAL WORLD PAYMENTS!!!

That a game runs better on a newer PC only is because it was DESIGNED to run on a better PC than your last PC. Your newer PC is better so it runs the games better. But if your PC goes beyond the original designer's requirement target the game would either A. run at it's best or B. run worse. Try launching an unaltered game from the early 2000s or 1990s on your modern PC. It's going to be a nightmare. Unless you buy one of the remastered games. Which, and I can't say this enough, ALL COST MONEY!!!

PC games are usually designed for higher class hardware than most people have. So when upgrading the PC, your hardware class increases.

Console games. No matter WHICH console they are designed for will most likely not run better on newer hardware. At best it would load faster (which ACNH does on Switch 2 compared to Switch)

On Switch 2 you have basically 4 options for games.
Option one, a Switch game that runs like it did on original Switch with optional faster loading.
Option two, a Switch game that can run at a higher resolution and unlocked framerate. Basically making it a "Switch Pro" game. Like Pokémon Scarlet / Violet and, Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 and some other Switch games. Those are free updates.
Option three, a Switch 2 edition of a Switch game. A game that can use the full capabilities of the Switch 2. Sadly MarioParty doesn't utilise it. But that's beyond my point.
Option four. Switch 2 games.

For option 3 and 4 you have to pay (extra) to play on your Switch 2. For 1 and 2 you just need to buy the Switch version of the game.
Nintendo could have made the 3.0.0.0 update part of the Switch 2 edition (like they did with Kirby).
Or they could just have increased the resolution and just gave the free 3.0.0.0 update.
Or they could've split those and give you a meaty FREE!!! update and a €5 upgrade for Switch 2. (including support for mouse mode, higher resolution, 12 player multiplayer, camera, microphone)

To me, honestly, they picked the best option.

And remember. I'll repeat it again. You are complaining about a €5 upgrade. That's not one dinner meal.

Re: Opinion: Animal Crossing On Switch 2 Has Me Equal Parts Buzzing And Baffled

I am happy with Switch 2 editions of games. It means they do not have to rush and make new games with too little time. Instead those games now have some time to be even better on the new system.

And also some Switch games deserve to be better on the Switch 2. I am happy that Nintendo keeps releasing these Switch2 editions. * still hoping for Mario Maker 2 Switch 2 edition with mouse mode *
