Re: 13 Switch Emulators Hit By Latest Wave Of Nintendo Takedowns

@Jokerwolf I disagree. Last Guild Wars 1 expansion (Eye of the north) was released in 2007. Which means according to you it would be okay to steal in 2022. The game is still very active and has only recently (last year) recieved a "Reforged" remaster. And the game still gets regular updates from the original development team.

Sure it's a PC MMORPG, but without a subscription. And still very active.

(the remastered version replaced the old version of the game, and people who had previously purchased the game got a free upggrade to the reforged edition. Which meant for me that the purchases I did 15+ years ago still have value. You can buy the reforged edition for $20 if you didn't have it. Then it includes just the 3 main campaigns (Prohecies, Factions and Nightfall) but you can buy the Eye of the North expansion seperately.)

@CielloArc I think about 0% of Devkit users use them for piracy, where I also think around 0-1% of the emulartor users use them for actual game development. Most emulators are not equipped for that. (no real ways to debug code for example). That is the difference. Also nobody is complaining people use emulators for homebrew.

@solarwolf07 You don't have to get so agressive. I actually still have a (IPS screen) GameBoy Color and a ModRetro Chromatic. And I still have some of my old games (Tetris, Super Mario Land, Pokémon) and I even bough some 2nd hand games (Zelda mostly) and have recently bought a Chromatic game for my ModRetro Chromatic (next to the Tetris game that came with it).

But downloading dumps, even from games you already have is Piracy. Dumping them yourself is legal as long as you don't have to break an encryption. (which means that any Switch game dumped is just as illegal) Emulators are legal as long as you don't use them with copyrighted games.

Re: Nintendo Is Considering A Switch 2 Price Hike This Year, According To New Report

ShadLink

@user0 Except not really. This used to be the case because of smaller and more efficient chips being produced. (Moore's law) Which these days really isn't the case anymore. And with high inflation and rising demand for (memory-) chips.. well..

Even Sony is delaying their next big console release. Prices for the Steam machine haven't been revealed yet (they would've been by now).

So.. I don't think this is all that unforseen. Prices of all computers or computer like devices are going to increase the coming 2-3 years. Yes, that also includes phones and consoles.

If you want to buy a Switch 2 within the next 2 years... do it soon.

I am so happy Nintendo took down another dozen of pirates. Emulators are not always illegal, but most of them are used with pirated roms. Making them enablers.

Also I disagree with people saying "it's okay to pirate old games". Since still a lot of people play retro games on retro consoles.

Re: Review: Mario Tennis Fever (Switch 2) - Slim For Singles, But An Addictive Core Gives It Online Legs

ShadLink

@The_Nintendo_Expat The console games never had any real single player content. It was always single player on the handheld and multiplayer on console. The Switch / Switch 2 versions are basically still "console" games even though the consoles are also handhelds.

Honestly I would love to see a purely single player focussed Tennis game. But I don't think there is enough market for. (read: casual players don't care)

Re: Pokémon's Super Bowl Commercial Was Probably Expensive, Unsurprisingly

@Anti-Matter "The budget is allocated more for the advertising than the actual Pokemon games.
..
Branding blind loyalty too much..."

So... you mean that their allocated money to advertising actually works?

@sportymariosonicmixx The difference between the Switch and Switch 2 is a lot bigger than between 3DS and 3DS XL and even between 3DS and new 3DS. There is litterally NO comparison. The difference is even more than between the old GameBoy and the GameBoy Color which were 2 'generations' of handhelds.

@Dazman It's not single or even cherry picked. It's the first one that came up when Googling for Pokémon glitches. I've could make a list as long as this entire article and I would still have not mentioned all of them.

And glitches like MissingNo (which could break your save data) haven't been in the series for years now. So yeah, a very clear case of retro glasses here.

Re: Pro-Evolution Soccer Successor 'eFootball' Is Getting A Switch 2 Exclusive Spin-Off

@nessisonett PES was always more arcade like and Fifa was always more a football-sim. At least that was how my brother used to see it. (And he should know, Fifa is almost the only thing he plays).

And no we're not young.

I still have memories of my big bro getting his PlayStation 2 (before that we played only on PC, and yes Fifa) to play Fifa in his room in the early 2000s. Not long after I bought my first console: a Cube with The Wind Waker. I also got Fifa for it later, so I could be player one for some matches against my brother.

Re: Nintendo Reconfirms Release Windows For Major Upcoming Switch 2 Games

@Otimus I also count Switch 2 Editions. Which means I also counted Animal Crossing New Horizons Switch 2 Edition. So only september without a game. One month in almost a year.
One. And Nintendo usually has one month during the summer months without releases.

Now for PS5 tell me every FIRST party game released last year per month.

A full 3D Zelda in 2026? Sorry but that's not very probable. 3D Zeldas are usually annnounced long in advance. Also with Mario Tennis Fever and Super Mario Wonder Switch 2 editions we have all the Mario we need for at least the first half of the year.

I do hope we'll see a Zelda remake or rerelease of some sort. And a Q4 Mario game... so.. a Nintendo Direct anyone?
