Re: Boom! The Animal Crossing: New Horizons 3.0 Update Is Now Available

The update is great.

  • Multi-crafting works up to 10 items, which is okay.
  • Crafting now also works with materials in your home storage.
  • And even though it's not the Switch 2 Edition yet I have seen some improvements to running the game handheld on the Switch 2.

I haven't started the new content yet. I'll be doing that this weekend.

@OLD64FOREVER Honestly I miss the handheld tennis games the most (GBC, GBA) those had real RPG stories with unique characters. And no, I don't want Miis.

Where the console games were better actual tennis games, I did like the stories of the handhelds more.

The story mode of this looks fun, as did it in Aces. But it really falls short compared to those GameBoy games.

@Anti-Matter A lot of PS5 games come with day one updates that are either 70-100GB downloads, and often required for the game to actual run though. Basically same thing as gamekeycards but then with an incomplete game on the disc.

Of all current consoles only ONE runs games directly from purchased media. That's the Switch 2. And sure GKCs exist, and we can think what we want about that as well. But, maybe you have noticed that flash storage isn't cheap. (Especially fast reliable flash storage) Nintendo can eat the cost easily, but it's not easy for most third parties. Especially those with multiplatform games. For example a blank blu-ray disc is max $1 where a 64GB Switch 2 card is around $15.

Which why a lot of third parties picked the original PlayStation over the N64. Because back then you couldn't download a game. So the only real other option to a GKC is a game skipping the Switch 2. And that would ultimately hurt the platform and Nintendo's sales.

Just the Animal Crossing New Horizons Switch 2 Edition for me and the 3.0 update.

A €5 upgrade. And I am very happy to pay. And honestly the 30fps doesn't bother me at all. Animal Crossing is a slow paced game, it doesn't need 60 fps AT ALL. I am happy Nintendo chose to increase the resolution, making it look better and woah! the free stuff that is included looks extremely fun.

And to the people who say "the Switch 2 Edition doesn't include much". That's the point. Nintendo could've chosen to make the 3.0 update exclusive to the Switch 2 Edition and asked $20 for it, but they didn't. They made the Switch 2 exclusive stuff part of the Switch 2 Edition and the rest part of the 3.0 update.

@Ornstein I made a breakdown in a review topic a few weeks ago. DK:Banaza and Pokémon Legends Z-A both got a 9,51/10 which means I have to (by my own rules) give them a unique score. And there I decided that Legends Z-A was the better one of the two.

So this means it gets a 0,01 score increase. The unique scores count for all games released in a year that get a minimum of a 9/10.

@MontyCircus What is a TV? A lot of people don't use TVs these days. I only still have a TV for that one day in about 3 months that I play on my PS5. Everything else is on PC or on Switch 2 now.

So yeah, that one device to play all is called a PC. Only it doesn't have Nintendo games. So I still need a second device.

I will not buy a next gen console. XBOX will basically be a PC and PlayStation has been quite underwhelming this and previous generation for games I actually like. I might buy a Steam Machine (if the price isn't too high) or a 'Switch 3'.

@IronMan30 You can quite easily say that the XBOX as a console is dead. XBOX has become a "gaming platform" which will be on PC, handheld or other devices in the future. Microsoft really doesn't have Nintendo or even Sony as competition in this space. Only, maybe, Valve. Rumors of the XBOX running Windows in XBOX Experience mode have been surfacing more and more. And basically Windows is going to be the home of XBOX gaming. Either on custom hardware or on a special "XBOX" pc.
