Re: Talking Point: Does It Bother You That Big Games Companies Are Using GenAI?

ShadLink

@Stormkyleis CGI is crafted by computers. Which is exactly what the C in CGI stands for Computer Generated Imagery. Gen-AI images are CGI images. They are images generated by a computer. And yes it still requires human input, but uses a different technique. Instead of creating your own 2D/3D models you create them using a prompt. Text to Image.

And yes even with "classic CGI" most animations are programmed rather than designed. A designer does not manually create each frame. They create a 3D or 2D object and add keyframes. The computer generates the frames between the keyframes. This is in fact using the same techniques Gen-AI use, though primitive forms.

Re: Talking Point: Does It Bother You That Big Games Companies Are Using GenAI?

ShadLink

@Robot99 You can block it by using a different browser. FireFox, Brave, Edge - except you'll get Copilot - Vivaldi, Opera.

And as much as we don't want it, AI is here to stay. AI is still improving and quite soon most games will be partly or even mostly AI. Also if you use any form of DLSS or Frame scaling / framegen you are basically using generative AI already.

Re: Donkey Kong Bananza Has Been Updated To Version 3.0.0, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

ShadLink

@cyrus_zuo The game is an absolute 9,51/10 and my 2nd place Game of the Year*. And the game absolutely has a lot of depth. Even more so than any Mario game before it. The game does, however, have a slow-ish start. So it feels to me that you haven't played more than a couple of hours.

*) I won't be finishing Metroid Prime 4 before Christmas day so I can now say that Pokémon Legends Z-A is my game of the year with a 9,52/10.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Reviews Skyrim On Switch 2, And Yeah, It's Bad

ShadLink

@MARl0 Still.. If I would've made the comparison I would've compared Switch and Switch 2 to PC (with clearly noted specs), XBOX ONE and PS4. Since those have similar power to the Switch 2. It'd be a more fair comparison.

I will also do my own checks with the updated version of the game to see if I notice any real differences during gameplay. I'll update my post if I do.

Tested; it feels instant right now. I can't really tell any difference from me pressing the jumb button and my character executing the jump. It may feel a bit smoother than first, but that may be just a placebo. In the end, I have no issues with the game, as much as I didn't have issues with the game before the update released.

Re: Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Switch 1 & 2 Physical Release Does Not Include Mortal Kombat 4 On The Game Card

ShadLink

@DennyCrane Yes, and that is exactly my point. THEY controlled how I could listen to the music I "owned". The DRM CDs have a small lead in data track that blocks a PC from detecting the audio.

@Pat_trick I'd say the answer is only a short google search away.

@KociolekDoSyta I never said they would come to your house. I have said that they can revoke a digital license. No matter if that license is contained in a download or a physical game. Even the first WiiWare games I purchased can STILL be redownloaded, even after Nintendo shut down the Wii Shop channel. Same for DSi, Wii U and 3DS games.

@DennyCrane In the early 2000s I was a big fan of Celine Dion. I once bought her album "A new day has come". I tried to play that on my PC.

I absolutely shouldn't have. Since it didn't work because of it's DRM. DRM on a physical disc.

They can, they have, they will.

BluRay discs use keypairs on the player. So you need to update them to get the latest keys. (They can revoke them as well)
UHD BluRay discs are even worse, since they have ACTIVE keys. Which means the player checks online everytime you start one. And defaults to 1080p or 720p if your key can't be verified. (if it plays at all) And yes, I've seen this on multiple discs.

Re: Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Updates Planned For Switch Platforms

ShadLink

@Oppal21 Any power budget costs money. Very simple. Nintendo is a company that needs to sell their console to tens of millions of people. Their power budget is constrained to that market.

They could've made a more powerful handheld easily. But in the end that would've increased the price of the console and easily have doubled it. (because you would also need a bigger battery and more powerful cooling) Which would put the Switch 2 out of reach for most casual gamers.

Consoles / PCs like the SteamDeck or any of the Windows handhelds don't really have this issue. Because they exist within a niche or have a large storefront to back them easily.

The fact is. Nintendo can't compete with Sony or Microsoft. They tried with the GameCube and the Wii U and both didn't cut it. The Wii and Switch did their own thing, which made them a lot more succesful. Something Nintendo tries to continue with the Switch 2. And honestly, I agree with them there.

Re: Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Switch 1 & 2 Physical Release Does Not Include Mortal Kombat 4 On The Game Card

ShadLink

@Pat_trick They can, they have and they will. There have been multiple instances of publishers revoking access to even physical forms of media. From CDs, DVDs, BluRay discs (try to watch one when the signing key is revoked you'll see), games on floppy, games on discs, games on cartridges.

Some older hardware didn't have any ways to verify a digital license. But since devices have started getting firmware and game updates this has absolutely changed.

Re: Mini Review: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition (Switch 2) - Just Hugely Disappointing

ShadLink

Really a 4/10? For basically still one of the best games ever made?
Really?

REALLY??!!!

30 fps. Is not a problem in a game that is basically a walking simulator with slow combat.
Download size.. sure that could've been better. But I see them fixing that with an update within a couple of weeks.
Input lag? I haven't noticed any.
"Nothing new" Jesus Christ, it's a rerelease of an old game. Did you expect it to have new content?

So... I am going to rate this review a 0/10. You didn't even try.
The game.. 8/10. Which is my original Switch 1 versions' review. It doesn't play worse than the Switch 1 version, and looks better.

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - Meet The Team

ShadLink

Breath of the Wild; almost entirely empty open world. (well not really but still)
Nintendo "fans": 'The world is so empty! I wish it had more interesting characters.'

Metroid Prime 4 has, like indeed Metroid Prime 3, some interesting NPCs.
Nintendo "fans": 'This feels so crowded! It's not survival with NPCs! I hope the NPCs die/leave quickly.'

And this is why Nintendo can absolutely never win with these people.

The only thing I don't really like is that Nintendo did not port Metroid Prime 2 and 3 to the Switch (2). It would have changed a lot about these characters also being in Metroid Prime 4 Beyond. Maybe they should even have ported Other: M to the Switch.

Re: Metroid Prime 4's Official Rating Summary Spotted On ESRB Website

ShadLink

@Moistnado Or Sony. Or any company actually if you look at all the HD/4K remasters released in the last or current generaion.

Companies need to make money for their shareholders.
When they (the shareholders) are happy, the company can invest in making new games.
Which makes me happy, because I can buy those new games to play.

It's not that hard.

Also be happy Nintendo offers an upgrade path. Some companies just release two seperate versions and let you pay full price for both if you want to play on Switch and Switch 2. (Square Enix for example)
