@Anachronism I appreciate your comment was balanced and self-aware. I can relate to your perspective better. Did you say you hadn’t played TotK? Because that one is much more linear and guided compared to BotW, it has more direction, progression, pacing and each of the dungeons feels unique. It may not be your preferred Zelda-style, but I think they were trying to meet gamers like you half-way at least.
Man, you guys really have the niche perspective. ToTK and BotW are the 2 best games in the Zelda franchise, and probably the best sellers. So I doubt Fujibayashi is going anywhere.
Regarding Fire Emblem Engage, I feel like all outlets miss the point. My problem was not the loss of social elements from Three Houses to Engage, but what turned me off Engage was the disgusting art style and change of tone. 3H was subdued and tasteful with fantastic lore. Engage is just toothpaste-puke in style. I’ll pick it up used someday.
Good call in my opinion. I think Mario Maker didn't work either, I thought it was absolutely terrible. It was only good for streamers to show off their resilience to murder machines, not a shred of fun in there for me. It's the only game from Nintendo I regret buying. It's also the reason I stopped buying Digital game (so I can sell the cart if I hate it. I'm still sore I paid for that crap, Mario Maker).
I play Smash daily, I’m casual hardcore. But I could do without Sakurai. He caught lightning in a bottle, sure. But then I feel he got kinda lazy. It disappoints me how he never overhauls characters like Mario (why does he still have FLUDD?). Just bolting more things on rather than re-inventing, which is usually the M.O. of Nintendo. I’m sure some bright young developer could keep what works but evolve it.
I’ve loved all the HD-2D games. Triangle Strategy was epic, Live-A-Live was magical, Octopaths are riveting. Am I missing any? They are all such bangers, count me in for this one too! (But, come on Chrono Trigger or Xenogears!!!!)
Is that Kapernick on the cover? He's a PoS. I think I'll kneel out on this one. It can't have been made by people who love the sport with that identity-politics stooge on the cover.
I find my eye lingering on the JP one far more. Bouncing comfortably between elements, guided nicely. The EN one is just, “OK, seen it” and then look away unintrigued.
@Bunkerneath I can’t see how TotK is a parallel to BotW. Because Hyrule has definitely been destroyed already. They just don’t dwell on fan service to the previous game, because I know a lot of people who jumped in this time but missed BotW (and now go back to it after loving TotK)
I came here to push back against the need for any continuity or timeline between the games. I’m so relieved most others in the comments understand and agree. To me every game is a reboot.
@DarkTron I thought the same thing. But at least this is fun and creative sponsored content. Plus, if a Games Journalism website isn’t going to make money from Games Companies, how are they gonna make their livelihood? Let ‘em make their money, I say.
I can’t stand this YouTuber. His opening catchphrase is so tired, and his awkward and confused comedy trope is so hack and contrived. I was curious about the topic but couldn’t stomach the pacing and personality. Great comment, right?
@nocdaes If you like a really good story, definitely pick it up. It’s nicely inspired by Game of Thrones, but also very original and compelling. It makes the strategy /battle missions very meaningful. But if you don’t like long story scenes, maybe you should miss it.
@SwagaliciousJohnson I don’t think it’s meant to be the same man. More like a recurring archetype across different universes (games). There is no in-game timeline. The only continuity between all the games is they exist as games in our reality.
I don’t understand all the Purah love. I haven’t cleared much of the base game, but she barely does anything. I don’t see how it can be solely on looks either... I guess it’s just a meme?
Please don’t report on these anymore. People who don’t like duplication don’t want to see it. People who do like duplication don’t want to see it either (and increase likelihood of a patch)
I like the Japanese version, the contrast in colors, and the sense of a door opening kind of tells a story, like you (the ship) are entering something (a fiery inferno). The US cover is just terrible.
@Deviant-Dork I can see why you might feel that breaking the in-game “worth” of items by duplicating is to not play the game. But truly this game has many ways to be played. I’m having more fun now not be scrooge-like over each large energy charge or monster drop. I’m thrilled I don’t have to waste time farming dragon parts more than once. For my part, I’m enjoying the game more for having more ready access to experiment and even waste resources, like the ancient blade, which if I were playing vanilla would just sit unused in my inventory until the end of the game, cuz otherwise I’m too much and an item hoarder. So I enjoy the dupes, but I respect if someone else wants the added challenge with out it.
There is a much better glitch (maybe others have mentioned it...)
1. Shield Surf (ZL + B + A) 2. While briefly in the air, press + (to enter inventory) 3. Select upto 5 of what you want (ie. diamond) 4. Press Y & B at the same time to close the menu 5. Pick up the duplicated items that fall out
I just spent an hour getting 100 big zonai charge, big zonites, diamonds, big truffles, endura shrooms, etc. It’s amazing you get 5 at a time, etc. Now all my weapons are dragon scale fusions. 😎
@Mrkittyhead that’s super valid. So much of it is subjective, right? What was our own perception and experience upon entering the game? Your fulfillment with the game is all the more precious because it belongs to you. The fact it didn’t speak to me, means it’s MORE yours, which is good too. Plus, “maintain expectations”, recipe for success. Let’s enjoy Zelda TotK, know it’s fantastic, but also “just another game”, so we can be open to it’s beauty. BTW, Future Redeemed was fantastic, right? 😆
@Mrkittyhead I think XBC2 had a “perfect storm” for me not to like it. Xenogears changed my life when I was in High School, then Xenosaga was a major let-down. I wanted but missed original XBC1, so was excited for 2. But I could only get it in Japanese, so although I could understand it, I couldn’t really fall into it. I couldn’t really comprehend all of the mechanics which just seemed ridiculously complicated. Plus I didn’t like the perverse designs, gatcha blades, and “harem for loser boy” story. So I finished it, but by the end it was pure hate. The end was cool tho. Classic Xeno stuff. But everything I personally like about Xeno games is done better in the other games. But my experience was likely marred by the language situation. (Although I only ever saw the Star Wars prequels in Japanese, and that actually made them better! Hahah)
Xeno 3 is the best one in the series. Which was a relief because Xeno 2 was so abysmally terrible. This new content is fantastic too. I’ve even begin to tolerate Rex.
I heard the Japanese version of BotW had all the Sheikah Slate entries in first person, as if Link were writing all the notes and observations. That’s a cool foil to how he never speaks. I wonder why they left that characterization out of the English version...
This was so incredibly hype. I love the nods to Xenogears as well. Matthew looks so much like Fei Fong Wong, and I get Bart and Emeralda vibe from some designs as well. I’m going to take this super slow, put it down for Zelda, and then enjoy coming back to it after Zelda withdrawals, I guess. Never thought I’d say this because it’s such a massive game, but kinda want to replay XBC3 proper too...

Don’t forget to vote for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 amazing DLC!
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Harvest Moon 64
Japan’s initially repulsed me until I realized it was like clay and handicrafts, then I appreciated it. The US one is just generic.

Awesome! Super stoked.
Now do Xenogears!
Re: Netflix Announces Return Of "The Voice Of Geralt" In New Witcher Animation
Sweet! Maybe it won’t have all the woke agenda politics too.
Re: Talking Point: So, Who Could Play Link, Zelda, Ganondorf In The Upcoming Zelda Movie?
When it comes to casting, I hope Nintendo sticks to their creative liberty and doesn't "go for woke" with jarring diversity stuff.

Man, I’m disappointed it’s not animated. I dunno, sounds kinda cursed… but I hope not.

Re: Suika Game (Watermelon Game) Update Adds English Language Support
Why is there a post about this game every other day on NL? Are these sponsored posts? I’d actually be less irked if that were the case…

I find the art style for this game off-putting. The main guy with white hair looks weird.
