Re: Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Director Makes 2023 'Variety500' List

@Anachronism I appreciate your comment was balanced and self-aware. I can relate to your perspective better. Did you say you hadn’t played TotK? Because that one is much more linear and guided compared to BotW, it has more direction, progression, pacing and each of the dungeons feels unique. It may not be your preferred Zelda-style, but I think they were trying to meet gamers like you half-way at least.

Re: Feature: Game Of The Year 2023 - Nintendo Life Staff Awards

Regarding Fire Emblem Engage, I feel like all outlets miss the point. My problem was not the loss of social elements from Three Houses to Engage, but what turned me off Engage was the disgusting art style and change of tone. 3H was subdued and tasteful with fantastic lore. Engage is just toothpaste-puke in style. I’ll pick it up used someday.

Re: Zelda Producer Explains Why A Mario Maker Style Game Probably Won't Work

Ryan_Again

Good call in my opinion. I think Mario Maker didn't work either, I thought it was absolutely terrible. It was only good for streamers to show off their resilience to murder machines, not a shred of fun in there for me. It's the only game from Nintendo I regret buying. It's also the reason I stopped buying Digital game (so I can sell the cart if I hate it. I'm still sore I paid for that crap, Mario Maker).

Re: Talking Point: What's Next For The Super Smash Bros. Series?

Ryan_Again

I play Smash daily, I’m casual hardcore. But I could do without Sakurai. He caught lightning in a bottle, sure. But then I feel he got kinda lazy. It disappoints me how he never overhauls characters like Mario (why does he still have FLUDD?). Just bolting more things on rather than re-inventing, which is usually the M.O. of Nintendo. I’m sure some bright young developer could keep what works but evolve it.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Sea Of Stars

@DarkTron I thought the same thing. But at least this is fun and creative sponsored content. Plus, if a Games Journalism website isn’t going to make money from Games Companies, how are they gonna make their livelihood? Let ‘em make their money, I say.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Ikaruga

I like the Japanese version, the contrast in colors, and the sense of a door opening kind of tells a story, like you (the ship) are entering something (a fiery inferno). The US cover is just terrible.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom New Item Duplication Glitch Discovered

Ryan_Again

@Deviant-Dork I can see why you might feel that breaking the in-game “worth” of items by duplicating is to not play the game. But truly this game has many ways to be played. I’m having more fun now not be scrooge-like over each large energy charge or monster drop. I’m thrilled I don’t have to waste time farming dragon parts more than once. For my part, I’m enjoying the game more for having more ready access to experiment and even waste resources, like the ancient blade, which if I were playing vanilla would just sit unused in my inventory until the end of the game, cuz otherwise I’m too much and an item hoarder. So I enjoy the dupes, but I respect if someone else wants the added challenge with out it.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom New Item Duplication Glitch Discovered

There is a much better glitch (maybe others have mentioned it...)

1. Shield Surf (ZL + B + A)
2. While briefly in the air, press + (to enter inventory)
3. Select upto 5 of what you want (ie. diamond)
4. Press Y & B at the same time to close the menu
5. Pick up the duplicated items that fall out

I just spent an hour getting 100 big zonai charge, big zonites, diamonds, big truffles, endura shrooms, etc. It’s amazing you get 5 at a time, etc. Now all my weapons are dragon scale fusions. 😎

Re: Review: Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed - A Stunning Denouement, Utterly Essential

Ryan_Again

@Mrkittyhead that’s super valid. So much of it is subjective, right? What was our own perception and experience upon entering the game? Your fulfillment with the game is all the more precious because it belongs to you. The fact it didn’t speak to me, means it’s MORE yours, which is good too.
Plus, “maintain expectations”, recipe for success.
Let’s enjoy Zelda TotK, know it’s fantastic, but also “just another game”, so we can be open to it’s beauty.
BTW, Future Redeemed was fantastic, right? 😆

Re: Review: Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed - A Stunning Denouement, Utterly Essential

Ryan_Again

@Mrkittyhead I think XBC2 had a “perfect storm” for me not to like it. Xenogears changed my life when I was in High School, then Xenosaga was a major let-down. I wanted but missed original XBC1, so was excited for 2. But I could only get it in Japanese, so although I could understand it, I couldn’t really fall into it. I couldn’t really comprehend all of the mechanics which just seemed ridiculously complicated. Plus I didn’t like the perverse designs, gatcha blades, and “harem for loser boy” story. So I finished it, but by the end it was pure hate. The end was cool tho. Classic Xeno stuff. But everything I personally like about Xeno games is done better in the other games. But my experience was likely marred by the language situation. (Although I only ever saw the Star Wars prequels in Japanese, and that actually made them better! Hahah)

Re: Surprise! Xenoblade Chronicles 3 "Final DLC" Launches On Switch Next Week

Ryan_Again

This was so incredibly hype. I love the nods to Xenogears as well. Matthew looks so much like Fei Fong Wong, and I get Bart and Emeralda vibe from some designs as well.
I’m going to take this super slow, put it down for Zelda, and then enjoy coming back to it after Zelda withdrawals, I guess. Never thought I’d say this because it’s such a massive game, but kinda want to replay XBC3 proper too...
