Live A Live and Triangle Strategy were both fantastic. I hope any changes don’t ruin relations with Nintendo. Plus, all the IP and history of the company... would hate to see that fall apart before they eventually give me HD-2D remakes of Xenogears and FFVI (please...)
@moodycat I’m the same way, I played XBC2 first (I’m a big Xenogears fan, but left-off gaming during Wii-U and XBC1 eras) I hated XBC2! Found it gross and soppy. But I caught up with XBC1DE and loved it. But XBC3 is the best so-far for me! Great story, great characters, great themes. If you liked DE then you’ll likely love this one too.
@dugan Yeah, having played the others will give you a deeper glimpse into events. Meaning you may recognize some “hints” that are blatant if you played the others first. But it would be equally satisfying to be introduced to those things in this game, and then discover their history in previous games. But overall, this has been very stand-alone and fully capable on it’s own two feet. I love the previous characters of XBC games, but to have these are your first characters for the series is also enviable. They’re the best so far IMO.
If you’re on the fence, I recommend you buy it right away. It’s the best of the series, hands-down, because the story and gameplay benefits from the first 2 games, but also totally standalone. True masterpiece!!
This trailer makes me interested in the game finally. I like the stylistic departures they’ve taken from the movies. I almost wish they’d taken a different approach for Gollum, maybe done a new style of voice. But I guess the movies just really nailed it.
I’m excited for this... but only because of reputation (and I love the development team) the individual stories don’t look particularly interesting to me. Oh well! I’m up for it, and low expectations is usually wise anyways.
@Link-Hero probably because the game has to know whether it’s a leap year, so-to-know if there is an April 31st and whether Halloween is on a Thursday or a Saturday or whatever. I think it’s something like that.
So they stopped adding to their calendar, just like the Mayans.
Someone ought to call Reggie out on this. Because the whole “permanent temp” vs. proper employee structure was around before, and during Reggie’s reign. He didn’t do anything about it either. But now he’s out he can point the finger? He’s just selling books, folks.
@moodycat Wow, you really think Blue Lions is worse story than Golden Deer? Personally, Blue Lions was my favorite. But I guess it depends on which you play first too.
Anyways, I love Three Houses, so this is a must-buy. But the multiple characters is the worst part of musou games IMO. I just spammed through Age of Calamity with Link because he was the only style I enjoyed. I really just want another FE game with these characters and world. 😆
Excited for FE: Three Hopes, Live A Live, and Xenoblade 3. (Kinda wish there was more of a gap between those last two. But at least the “longer” one comes out second.)
All of Reggie’s “revelations” seem to be pretty self-serving. Does he ever share any of his mistakes or regrets? I’m curious about the chapter on Wii U, etc. because around that time, NoA had such a terrible marketing plan. By comparison, marketing for Switch has been outstanding.
@RubyCarbuncle No, I’m an older Xennial. I have some fondness for Nights, that certainly captured a mood. But Sonic’s 90’s ‘tude was always repulsive to me. I’ve never enjoyed a Sonic game. But Yuji Naka hasn’t had a good game for a long time, and he’s got a reputation for being a jerk too. There are tonnes of great game put out by SquareEnix, so what would make his any different? I think he probably just messed it up, and was going to cost them more than it was worth. So they probably thought “he made this bed, he can sleep in it.” Thanks for the comment though. I can respect other people like his games. But his recent actions seem unprofessional to me. Probably professional suicide now too.
Loved Kirby, first Kirby game I’ve really connected with. Beautiful, joyous adventure.
But Triangle Strategy also captivated me! Highly inspired by a Song of Ice and Fire, even down to the “wordiness” 😂 But it’s super good, I hope people don’t sleep on it. People should pick it up too and enjoy the fantastic story and amazing missions.
Just cleared it this evening — absolute masterpiece! I enjoyed it more than Bowser’s Fury and Odyssey, I think. If anyone’s on-the-fence, just go get this game, you won’t regret it!
Thanks for the great collection. Will follow-up on some of these. But I feel Kirby: Forgotten Land, Mario Odyssey, and Bowser’s Fury got left out because of bonus multiplayer ( or maybe they’re too obvious? Because each is an absolute masterpiece! )
Actually a little bummed about this, because I’d have liked more time to pour into Live-A-Live which comes out like a week before. But I’ve heard that’s a little short(?) So at least it’s not the other way around.
Loving it! I like the simpler visual style of stages, less clutter. Plus lots of interesting new ideas, like driving against the other racers on the Paris course. Plus the Ninja course is just crazy!
Gaming can be addictive, like any other habit. My kids struggle with it, and screen time was shown to be the number #1 influence on impairing young children's development.
To me, video games are like cigarettes. I love them both, but wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

@Miles_Edgeworth that’s great you’re so excited, man. I hope you really enjoy it!
Live-A-Live is kinda short, I think I can make it for day 1 XBC3!

Good for her. I hope she’s not some kind of political activist, like the people who ruined Disney.
