I like NSO for the convenience, I quit PS Plus as it's cheaper and I play retro games more anyway. I dont really mind that its a subscription as most actual retro games I want to own physically I have purchased over the years. Hopefully it carries straight over. One thing I have thought about is whether I'll need to deactivate one of my two Switches (I own a Lite and an OLED) in order to 'activate' my NSO and digital games on Switch 2.
Still playing some Daytona USA and Ridge racer 64 when I have some gaming time. Also bought Stray in the current sale on Switch. I did start the game on PS Plus a while back but didn't get too far. Seems like an impressive port. May also try get back into Wizardry on Switch, which I've not played for some time.
Been playing some Daytona USA and Virtua Fighter 2 on PS3, still as great to play as they ever were. Will also play some more Ridge Racer 64 after the suprise NSO release, the game is new to me as I never owned it and arcade racers remain one of my favourite styles of video games. Also still on my Half-Life 2 replay.
I saw this video a few days ago and it's really taking off. Honestly that's a remarkable oversight for a remake that looks like it ruins the well designed flow of the original, in two player mode at least. Hopefully it can be fixed for fans.
I completd Portal 2 on Switch, first time I played through the game and it's outstanding. Might go back the the Still Alive bonus levels of the first game, but I also feel like replaying Half-Life 2 now as not played it in years. Still enjoying Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 and I might try to finish Moonwallker on the Mega Drive as I finally got around to picking a copy of the game up last week.
Seeing those 'vintage' comments I see familiar names from when I was first on this website, I think was VC Reviews back then or maybe only just Nintendo life. Tried the game earlier and it's an unusual puzzler for sure.
I still think it's a good Switch port, the 30fps feels fine on Sonic Generations to me and the visuals are crisp on the OLED, even though I also have the 60fps PS4 version. Shadow's game is a bit blurry and the framerate feels worst though I've mainly only played the Sonic part of the game. On PS4 Shadow's game is reduced to 30fps, so it's evidently asking more of the Switch. I've certainly played the game more this time than when I had it on PS3.
Working today, but when I'm not been playing some Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged. Picked up in the recent sale on Switch and it's a fun racer. Also finished Portal and working through Portal 2 which is excellent.
Retro picks for this week, bought a copy of Land of Illusion for the Master System which I'd never played before and it's a great little platformer. Also bought Moonwalker for the Mega Drive which is another game I've never got around to.
A nice extra but Shame it's limited to classic Sonic, as the point of that part of Sonic Jam was he was in 3D. Still I really enjoyed the Switch port and the 30fps didn't bother me that much, I also bought the PS4 version but ended up playing more on Switch.
As I've skipped the PS5 after PS4, hopefully this will be my next console purchase as I've built up a large digital Library. I hope the screen options are going to be comparable to the current OLED though.
A great idea, nice one Nintendo Life, will be using this for certain. I also really like the user review option, will be good for some of those smaller titles that have possibly slipped under the radar. I may even post one or two.
Only thing I'd add is the Sea Life places are pretty expensive, though they sometimes have admissions discounts if you are travelling on National Rail, so worth checking if travelling to one for a visit.
I played SOMA on PS4 and while thematically interesting, I didn't find the game that compelling in practice, though I did finish it. Performance was also a bit wobbly and distracted from the atmosphere. The Bunker looked quite interesting, but I do wonder how the visuals will hold up on Switch.
I finally competed Portal last week, on the Switch Companion Collection. Another game I started on PS3 but playing on the Switch that really made me appreciate how outstanding the game is. Started Portal 2, so will be playing some more of that. Also need to finish The Thing Remastered.
In terms retro I think will play some Batman Returns on Game Gear, finished the game a couple of weeks back but need to try the harder difficulty routes on the stages. It's a really good game, similar in style to G.G. Shinobi.
@Slobbert Yeah I agree, I'd rather pay more for an OLED version to begin with. Would feel like a downgrade to have a less vibrant screen, even if the graphics were better. Those true blacks on the OLED really make a difference for the atmosphere in a lot of games.
I don't really mind, once it's properly announced I'll pay attention, just hoping for a screen as good as the current OLED out of the gate (in addition to more great games of course).
Ace Combat 7 on Switch, which I've progressed futher in than I did on PS4. The Switch port has really made me appreciate how good the game is.
The Thing Remastered which is a game I played on its original release in 2002, but it's nice to have the quality of life improvements on Switch, it's certainly less difficult and frustrating to play.
Retro wise, I took a few of my old Mega Drive games down from the loft so may play some Shadowrun, New Zeland Story and Rolling Thunder 2. Also got The Revenge of Shinobi on Vinyl over Christmas so will be 'playing' the soundtrack.
Metroid Prime 4, Xenoblade Chronicles X and Capcom Fighting Collection 2 are the ones I'm looking forward to. X always looked interesting but I never did buy a Wii U, CFC 2 has some great games I've not played since the Dreamcast. Also interested to finally play Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness despite its poor reputation and hoping we see The Last Ninja Collection (Though not on this list).
Chase H.Q. would be a great candidate, never had an arcade perfect port as even the Saturn version which I got on import was lacking. I've picked up quite of a few of these, most recently Warrior Blade. As SEGA gave up on their own AGES series, they should licence some of their classics out to Hamster. I'd also like to see Midnight Resistance, or the Mega Drive version on the NSO app would be great too.
Edit: Realised arcade Chase H.Q. did appear on a compilation for PS2 in Japan, but still rare though to make a potential Arcade Archives version a top pick for me.
Ace Combat 7 looks pretty impressive, it's a little blurry portable on the OLED screen, but the game looks really nice on a tv and I prefer the locked 30fps to the unstable 60fps I played on PS4 a few years back. It's a port, but an outstanding one from a visual standpoint.
I got the NES version of Batman at Christmas, so finally getting around to playing it, it's certainly challenging. Also made me revisit Batman Returns on Game Gear which is a really good game.
When not retro gaming I've been playing some Ace Combat 7 on Switch, it's a really good port.
@NintendoWife They did fairly well to improve Blade Runner with patches, including letting you switch back to the original graphics. Was launched in a pretty bad state though.
I do like their remasters generally, might get The Thing when gets released on Switch in Europe at the end of December, I enjoyed the game on Xbox but it was really difficult towards the end.
For me the Switch just has something that seems to be getting forgotten in the push for ever increasing graphical fidelity. It's just a fun video game system to pick up and play. I bought Ace Combat 7 in the recent sale and I've already progressed further than I did when I originally played on PS4. I'm interested to see the Switch Successor and it's great backwards compatibility is confirmed as I've bought a lot of digital games. Has to be one of my favourite consoles ever released at this point, and I started on the Atari 2600.
I like the Mega Drive as part of the NSO, but if they are delisting old games to set up their own subscription that requires yet another account, I'd not be interested.
Just bring back OutRun 2006 and port some of their arcade back catalogue to modern systems.
Some new Switch releases and sale items. I initially rolled the credits on S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Prypiat after about 30 hours, so have moved on Shadow of Chernobyl.
I've also started playing Victory Heat Rally which seems quite good and bought Ace Combat 7 and The Karate Kid: Street Rumble in the current sale. Ace Combat compares really well to the PS4 version and The Karate Kid seems a really decent beat 'em up at half the original price.
Still playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, as I mainly have time for gaming the weekend. I also bough Victory Heat Rally in the new releases which seems a fun arcade racer.
Additionally I picked up a copy of Gremlins 2: The New Batch for NES in CeX yesterday, so will be playing that some more. It's a fun little game and I'd never played it before. Great music, but then it is Sunsoft.
@AJB83 I often hope to find another arcade Rally game that plays as perfect as SEGA Rally. At the time I'd played the arcade version quite a lot in the London Trocadero, but the Saturn version was so great, I still think it's one of the best arcade racers ever made (I also have the Japanese Saturn release that supports the analogue controller). Like SEGA's best arcades, the hidden depth appears the more you play, like discovering you can get an instant speed boost or turn almost on the spot in Crazy Taxi.
Will hopefully get some time to play Victory Heat in the next few weeks.
@AJB83 I've gone ahead and bought the game ha. New Star GP is also a good one, I have the Switch and PS4 version, shame the framerate suffers a bit on Switch.
Agree with you on the arcade racing playability, it's like the best SEGA arcades, easy to pick up, difficult to master. You can get through OutRun in less than 10 minutes or so, but I've been playing the game since 1986.
I still might get this one, I know Slipstream also recieved a 7 on Nintendo life, for me its it's one of the best retro racers out there. Im not quite as enthusiastic about the art style here, but it still looks like my type of game so I'll watch some more gameplay. If only Switch had OutRun 2006 or Ridge Racer 7.
Mainly still playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of pripyat. Never having played the series until the Switch port, I see why the games are so regarded. The atmosphere in this game is well realised and engaging, even with dated graphics. Also still playing Dino Crisis on PS4, holds up well for a PS1 game I'd never got around to originally.
As a striking contrast I also bought Need for Speed on PS4, I'd never normally buy an always online game, but was £2 or so on sale and as a long term fan of arcade racing games I thought worth a try. The cutscenes made me cringe, but the actual racing is quite enjoyable.
I really just play this for the original Streets of Rage as it's the only way to play the game on Switch. The lag isn't so bad with that game, but the lack of decent scaling in portable mode is annoying. There is no way to play the games portable without visual shimmering.
I played the first game on PS3, I remember waiting for each new episode and watching some speculation videos online. Didn't go back to the series until I bought True Colours a while back on Switch and to be honest I lost interest in it.
Still playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat and Sonic x Shadow Generations, same as last few weeks. I dont have much gaming time in the week! I also bought Shadow of Chernobyl and I want to pick up PS1 Dino Crisis now you can buy it on PS4.
The first two games I played on Dreamcast and I really enjoyed them. Had the day one PS4 version of Shenmue 3 and I've never completed it. The fighting seemed like a big downgrade, I didn't like that running made you lose energy, and the loss of the SEGA arcades was a shame. Beyond the basic gameplay the story felt really like a sideways step and progress seemed to take forever. I really wanted to like the game as I'd waited years. It also didn't run well on PS4, framrate was inconsistent.
@Zeropulse yes, I felt the same about the end of 2 and the start of 3.
@AJB83 Wow that's great. Game turned out really well and I purchased on PS4 and Switch. I'm a big fan of classic arcade racers, OutRun 1986 is probably my favourite game of all time. I'll certainly check this out when has a Switch release.
@AJB83 Have you tried Slipstream? It's really good, OutRun 2 style drifting with OutRunners style sprite scaling and a great Switch port. I'm certainly interested in this one, hopefully maintains good performance on Switch.
Still playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat on Switch, it's a really engrossing game I am still learning the gameplay and mechanics. Alternating with Carpathian Night Starring Bela Lugosi and Sonic X Shadow Generations. As I was over on my PS4 I also bought the PS1 version of Alone in Dark: the New Nightmare as I'm still in a survival horror mood after completing Fear the Spotlight on Switch.
I never did complete the Alone in the Dark when I had it on Dreamcast.
I now own the PS4 version in addition to the Switch. Sonic Generations is 60fps there and Shadow is 30fps but with better resolution than Switch. The Switch version is still really great in my opinion, it looks really nice on the OLED and the motion blur does help out with the 30fps.
I bought the first silver one with Nintendogs, when the Lite came out I played one in GAME and also bought one straight away as seemed so much better than my launch model. I spent many hours playing the DS though some of my favouite games were imports, like Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! and it's sequel. I also had to import Contra 4 as never saw a PAL release, was really disappointing how the 3DS added a region lock. My first handheld was the Game Boy though I liked how the DS also called back to the Game and Watch duel screen designs.
I recently discovered the zoom feature on Switch, it's hardly ideal while playing a game to have to toggle it on and off, but can help slightly as you can map it to home for quick access.
@Truegamer79 I have those two games and this one is good, it goes for the Super Castlevania IV whip style and the movement is snappy and responsive though the characters are small. Graphics are more 16-bit if a little samey in the early stages, but music is very NES.
I've been playing the game since the weekend, it's good. I like the 8 directional whip and the stages are certainly challenging. Unlocking the skills adds some strategy, certainly a good take on Castlevania and although the graphics and sound can't complete with the recent Haunted Castle remake, I really like the game.
Still playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, Sonic X Shadow Generation's and I bought the newly released Carpathian Night Starring Bela Lugosi, so will give that a try. Also completed the main story in Fear the Spotlight and have the bonus chapters to play.
I really like S.T.A.L.K.E.R, it has a great atmosphere.
The first remaster was a step above, I believe the lead developer was the developer of OpenLara so it was a quality release even on Switch. Hope this one matches up.
It's too easy to think Rockstar 'fixed' the games when ultimately they decided to release their flagship games in the state they were in, for the price they did. Who knows what time or financial constraints Grove Street Games had placed on them.
As for the lastest update, it's looks a lot better even on Switch, the Atmosphere is much improved. Vice City sunset looks great and San Andreas even has the little clouds of mist that blow in during a rain storm as they did in the original, plus a better match for the original colour tinting. Still missing ambient occlusion under cars on Switch so they look like they are floating at times, and vehicles weirdly speed around in circles in Vice City airport for some reason. They also fixed the unfinished looking mismatched map screen in Vice City, that previously appeared as if someone had roughly cut and pasted two versions together.
They are certainly a lot better overall now than at launch, but would still have a way to go to be definitive in my opinion.

Re: Sonic X Shadow Generations Surpasses One Million Sales In Opening Weekend
I now own the PS4 version in addition to the Switch. Sonic Generations is 60fps there and Shadow is 30fps but with better resolution than Switch. The Switch version is still really great in my opinion, it looks really nice on the OLED and the motion blur does help out with the 30fps.
Re: Feature: It's 20 Years Since The Launch Of Nintendo's Most Important Console
Re: Random: Uh-Oh, Some Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Players Are Struggling With The "Small" Text
I recently discovered the zoom feature on Switch, it's hardly ideal while playing a game to have to toggle it on and off, but can help slightly as you can map it to home for quick access.
Re: Mini Review: Carpathian Night Starring Bela Lugosi (Switch) - Nails That Classic Castlevania Feel
@Truegamer79 I have those two games and this one is good, it goes for the Super Castlevania IV whip style and the movement is snappy and responsive though the characters are small. Graphics are more 16-bit if a little samey in the early stages, but music is very NES.
Re: Mini Review: Carpathian Night Starring Bela Lugosi (Switch) - Nails That Classic Castlevania Feel
I've been playing the game since the weekend, it's good. I like the 8 directional whip and the stages are certainly challenging. Unlocking the skills adds some strategy, certainly a good take on Castlevania and although the graphics and sound can't complete with the recent Haunted Castle remake, I really like the game.

@Grumblevolcano Yes works offline for me too.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (16th November)
Re: Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered Details Returning 'Photo Mode' Feature
The first remaster was a step above, I believe the lead developer was the developer of OpenLara so it was a quality release even on Switch. Hope this one matches up.
Re: GTA Trilogy Update Removes Dev From Splash Screen, CEO Responds
