Weird as I recognised a lot of the names of the 2009 comments, was when I first joined the site (I was Ristar42 back then)! A new play control version woukd have been good. I got my copy of this game down from the loft the other day along with a bunch of other games. I remember really enjoying it on Gamecube, don't have a Switch 2 but maybe I'll start it up on my Wii.
The best improvement would be running not diminishing your energy. Was annoying to have to keep eating just to move fast and was never a feature of the originals. I guess restoring health before fights fixes it to a degree, but you'd still having to keep slowing to a walk when getting about.
I'd probably prefer the first two on Switch, I've still not finished the third but I found it so grindy to increase your stats to win fights, and the training was not that compelling. Far from the Virtua Fighter style original. After wanting the sequel for all those years after playing both original games on Dreamcast, I was sadly disappointed by quite a few aspects of this one to be honest.
Cosmic horror. I've never really got into the series myself, except Zero Misson on GBA which I did finish and Metroid Prime, which was definitely worth replaying with the Switch remaster.
I've not bought one at this point I won't be getting one for a while. The games haven't grabbed me anymore than the PS5 which I also skipped, I also don't like these 'key card' games at all. Still use my OLED and will be getting Metroid Prime 4 on there, but except for that, I'm sticking with retro gaming for now. Glad for those who are enjoying the new console and looks to be selling well, but it's not for me at the moment.
Completed my replay of PS1 Tomb Raider and first playthrough of SNES Dragon View on Evercade last week. Dragon View took about 15 hours and was a great find for a game I'd never played. I picked up the Renovation collection recently so moving on to Granada and Arcus Oddessy on the Mega Drive, I really like both games and they have great music. Also still chasing my own high score in NES Pacman.
On Switch might play some Turrican II (Amiga) or Rendering Ranger: R2 (SNES).
More modern games I have lined up to play are Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Star Wars: Jedi Survivor on PS4, but not sure will have time this weekend.
Pretty neat. Activision would be the games I'd really like to see too. They had Pitfall in some of the mini console versions I think, so here's hoping.
Got some new Evercade carts so be mostly retro gaming. Still playing Dragon View (SNES) and near the end of replaying Tomb Raider (PS1).
Additionally will play some El Viento (Mega Drive) which I'd never got around too despite reading the reviews at the time, and Granada (Mega Drive). The Renovation collection is a really good one overall and I also picked up Duke Nukem Collection 2. Those PS1 'Duke Raider' style games are suprisingly fun, again, I never played them as I had a Saturn.
They work well on the Super Pocket too and I like that the saves are on the cart, so can continue playing portable from the VS-R.
I don't like this idea, feels like a waste of plastic and adds the storage cost to the buyer. Only real upside is, I suppose you could sell them. I've not bought a Switch 2 yet and these key cards are not something I would buy, even if I do get the console down the line.
Still playing Dragon View (SNES) and replaying Tomb Raider (PS1) on Evercade. Dragon View was a great find and proves to me again retro gaming isn't just nostalgia for games I've played before, but discovering games I missed.
Also still playing Deus Ex (PS2) over on PS4, and the System Shock 2 Remaster on Switch.
I realised my NSO expired and as I'm holding off on Switch 2, I'm also not feeling that enthusiastic to renew my subscription at the moment. I'm actually finding myself drawn back to retro gaming on Evercade after buying a Super Pocket and VS-R. Diddy Kong Racing would be a bit of an incentive.
Still playing Dragon View on SNES (on Evercade). Also picked up the Irem Arcade Cartridge 1 so been playing In the Hunt and Lightning Swords. Fun discovering some stuff I'd never played and Moon Patrol is on there, one of the first video games I ever played (though was the Atari version).
Aside from that, possibly some Final Fight or SFII: Hyper Fighting. I'm also tempted to get the new PS4 release of PS2 Deus Ex, as I quite liked that version.
Very glad Arcade Archives '2' are still arriving on Switch 1 as I don't have the new console, it's a bit out of my price range for video games at the moment.
Still playing Dragon View (SNES) on Evercade, glad I decided to get V-SR as finally exploring a lot more games on the early carts I bought back in 2020. Also bought a Capcom Super Pocket for portable play, so Final Fight is also frequent game for train journeys at the moment. Lastly been replaying PS1 Tomb Raider on there, I did play the remasters but something about the Saturn / PS1 versions of the original game still has a certain nostalgic charm for me.
Art as created by the artless, technologically speaking. Honestly, just pay for a skilled person to sign off on these things, games cost enough these days.
I liked this controller at the time, still have two, the blue with the clear plastic back and an orange one. I think it still feels good, I like the analog triggers but seems weird to not have both digital and analog L and R buttons these days. The missing default analog on Switch and Switch 2 still also feels weird to me, not only for racing games, but any games with a driving component. The placement and shape of A and Y was interesting and I remember it working really well in some games. The d-pad never felt good to me, I bought the Hori SNES shaped GameCube controller for 2D games. Overall, worked great on GameCube and added a lot to the identity of the system.
They aim to report with objective testing here towards benchmarking. Doesn't mean people can't subjectively find it fine, or not notice. People have very different tolerance for these things, going on the many comments here as an example.
If fans are enjoying their Switch 2, they'll just continue to do so. I prefer the OLED screen and am not sold on the new console myself yet, so I'll wait for some possible hardware revisions down the line.
@The_Nintend_Pedant Could have stuck with 720p too, less need to upscale and probably better performance not having to potentially get to 1080p. In a screen the current OLED size, native 720 looks really nice.
Still playing the Duke Nukem 1 and 2 Remasters on Evercade. Also discovering odd SNES rpgs Drakkhen and Dragon View on the Piko collection 1. Had the cart since it came out, but but only finally trying the games again since I bought a VS-R recently.
Keep coming back to Ridge Racers 2 PSP version on PS4, playing the R4 tracks with the R4 music is probably some of the most enjoyable arcade racing ever for me.
May get back to L.A. Noire on Switch, but not sure will have time.
Nice console I bought after the Dreamcast. No Switch 2 here, but I did try my old F-Zero disc on my Wii recently, no idea how I used to be so good at that game, great but very challenging. True nostalgia for me is probably more something like Ocean's Platoon on the C64.
Finally got around to playing L.A. Noire for the first time, as on sale. I really enjoy classical Hollywood films, so the setting and style appeal to me so far. Also looks really great on the Switch OLED. Also picked up the remastered original Duke Nukem games (1&2) on Evercade VS-R, pretty fun and work well on the Super Pocket too. Still playing (SNES) Top Racer 2 and (Game Gear) The Sword of Stone on there too.
I never upgraded to PS5 and feel similar with regards to Switch 2 for the moment. I'm honestly not sure which I'd get if I decide to buy one, been going back to retro gaming mostly, though still enjoy my OLED and PS4.
One thing I do appreciate with Sony (retro game wise) is that newly released PS1 and PSP emulations are available to purchase on the older console without a subscription. Also, for those I bought years ago digitally on PS3, I get to download them 'for free' on PS4 if they have a new release. Certainly better than NSO in that respect.
@Dimjimmer I doubt it performance wise, unless they removed the 30fps frame cap. Since 720 60fps was seemingly possible on an unmodded Switch as reported by Digital Foundry, it does make you think this could have been an simple upgrade with a bit of patching.
As one digital purchase gets you PS4 and PS5 versions, this 'buy the game twice' approach on Switch is very inconsistent of SEGA.
PS4 version managed Sonic Generations at 60fps, I bought it there digitally (which also gets you the PS5 version I believe). I also bought digitally on Switch, and though I don't own a Switch 2, the lack of an upgrade path seems like a poor decision. Particularly when Digital Foundry showed footage of the original Switch port of Sonic Generations running at 60fps with a resolution drop to 720p.
@bring_on_branstons Yep, seeing videos of games was pretty rare, just a few TV programs which might show a preview and if you missed it, you missed it. Except for that, little screen shots and written previews as you say. The Trocadero in London was amazing back then, they had a linked multi player delux version of SEGA Rally with force feedback steering, possibly my favourite arcade racer ever. The Saturn port was really good too, but no arcade machine.
Currently playing Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened on PS4, also picked up Arcade Archives Ridge Racer on PS4 and Switch 1. Finding hi scorce chasing on Ridge Racer quite addictive, reminds me of trying to perfect my time trials on SEGA Rally on the Saturn.
Except for that, it's some games on Evercade VS-R. Really enjoying the recent free new secret Game Gear game, The Sword of Stone, replaying the PS1 version of Tomb Raider and one of my favourite games ever, Midnight Resistance (arcade and Mega Drive versions).
@bring_on_branstons I was often at the Trocadero in London around the mid 90s and seeing games like Virtua Fighter 2, Daytona, Ridge Racer and SEGA Rally was amazing, was like jumping two generations via the arcade. Seeing stuff like Mario 64, Resident Evil and Tomb Raider at home was really something, but arcade graphics were on another level.
@awp69 I'm very glad was on Switch 1 and PS4 as I'm not sold on Switch 2 yet, and it's the game that made me sit up in the Switch 2 reveal. I really enjoy classic arcade racers and the Ridge Racer series in general, and it looks nice and vibrant on the original OLED.
PS4 version is the same except you can use analog triggers and the menus are blue, whereas they're red on Switch.
Probably worth noting for people who only played the PS1 version originally, in the arcade you cant move to a 3rd person view Daytona style.
@MarkSeteth72 The review doesn't mention, but there is a Switch 1 Arcade Archives version available too.
Been playing the version on Switch 1 and PS4, PS4 adds the analogue acceleration and breaking, but overall plays fine on Switch without it to me, as a portable option. Might actually get my steering wheel from the loft at some point for the PS4 version. I still think Daytona on PS3 is the superior arcade port, but this is great. Caravan mode to get a high score in a set time period is very addictive to me. I also like the time of day shift in the DX versions, I'd not seen that before in the game.
PS4 has R4 and PSP Ridge Racers 2 which are far better featured releases, but always good to see Ridge Racer come back.
@awp69 it is, but there it's a standard 'Arcade Archives' release. From the review I can't really see whats different between the two.
@Bunkerneath Of all the Dizzy games, you must enjoy a challenge! One life even in the NES version. I'd go for Magic Land or Prince of Yolfolk, but all great games.
Codemasters were great, always affordable little tape games you could pick up and some excellent titles. Shame to see the brand go, I do have the Oliver Twins Evercade cart.
@Poco_Lypso I don't personally find it so, from what I read there. I remember the Xbox One reveal and it really wound me up (and a lot of others at the time evidently), who went with PS4. The timeless PS4 'game share' video was the finishing touch.
I think it's all a bit pricey for me, so I will stick with Switch for the moment. To be honest I'm more a retro gamer these days anyway.
Arcade Archives 2 Ridge Racer... though to be honest, that could be a Switch Release. Overall I'm not pre-ordering for the moment, I do want Metroid Prime 4, but I can play that on Switch. I have Elden Ring on PS4 and my hype for the other From Software announcement dropped off a bit when I saw it was an online multi player game. Switch 2 is going to be a wait and see for me, it's the same price as a PS5 and as a racing game fan, there are probably a few more games over there I might want to play (quite disappointed for no analog triggers on Switch 2 too). I do really enjoy the portable option with Switch though, so will see how games looks after launch.
@Darthmoogle would be good, lets hope so. However, I'd not be paying full price to upgrade if I buy the console, so hopefully more info will come out regarding that too.
Xenoblade Chronicles X, probably for some weeks! The game is massive and I feel I've only started at 20 hours. Still enjoying Ridge Racer 2 on PS4 / PSP and am suprised by how great it still looks on an actual PSP.
After all the Switch 2 GameCube talk I am tempted to get some of my games out of the loft and boot them up on my Wii. I was quite good at F-Zero GX back in the day and I've not played the system for years.
They just need to add 60fps to the original Switch version. Seems like a perfect candidate for a simple Switch 2 update or 'edition', and less for a whole new version. Be interested to see if they get Shadow to 60fps though, as that game remained 30fps on base PS4 while Sonic Generations was 60fps.
I own the Switch and PS4 version but wouldn't buy the game again just for better performing hand held version. As I own the digital PS4 version if I buy a PS5 I also have access to that version to download for no extra cost.
So this is not a proper From Software game in the style of their usual releases. That is disappointing as I have no great interest in multi player focused games. At least there is still the Elden Ring port, just hope it runs well.
I'd take analog triggers over a 'prestige look' any day. I like racing games and having analog triggers is such a simple and common solution for improving gameplay without having to get a steering wheel. It's one thing I really hoped Switch 2 would bring back as a control option.
I wouldn't buy this, and with the initial money for the console and Mario Kart being the same price as PS5 with Astrobot in Argos UK right now, it's not a cheap device. Surely they could have absorbed the cost of this to the console, just like the demos which shipped with 3DS. Ultimately it's anyone's choice to pay of course, but it's not a good look I think.
HDR and OLED would really be something. Until I see the screen in person not sure how it will compare, but the current OLED screen is so nice compared to my Switch Lite.
I do own the PS4 version, I brought it later in a sale and after some patches. It still ran quite badly with lots of glitches, but also I just didn't find the game very interesting or compelling. Not a Switch 2 seller for me personally even if runs better. The From Software game has me interested though.
@Jaquan Thanks, I was reading up on that after. I'd be interested to see if there is a general 'game boost' for non patched games with uncapped frame rates or adaptive resolution. Also how Switch 2 will handle the 720p upscale in portable.
I realise Sony also charge for some 'upgrades' but they are certainly doing somethings better that Nintendo at present. I can download new PS4/PS5 PS1 classics releases for 'free' for example, if I bought them previously on PS3. All those Wii VC games I bought are forever tied to the console.
Its almost the price of a PS5 with Astro Bot here in the UK. I can only really afford one of these current consoles, so I'm undecided which to go for. I have decent size digital libraries on both PS4 and Switch. I really like the portable aspect of Switch but I'm not rushing in with a pre order at this point with these prices.
It's very expensive, plus the cost for Switch 2 Editions if you own the game on Switch is a bad look when many PS4 games offer a substantial performance upgrade on PS5 with game boost, mostly for free. I'd be really interested to see what free enhancements are availble outside of the the actual Switch 2 Editions. I've held off buying a PS5 as yet, but with the Switch 2 reveal and these prices, I'm not sure yet which next console I will for go.
I was expecting about that as the upper price in the UK. It's about the most I'd pay, but I'm a bit disappointed it doesn't look like Switch 2 will offer much enhancement to Switch games outside the nominal fees for a 'Switch 2 edition' on select titles. I was hoping something like docked performace in portable mode would be covered. I'll still buy one over PS5 as I really enjoy the portable aspect of Switch.
I am probably one of the few people who also sat up at 'Arcade Achives 2: Ridge Racer', but to be honest that could be on Switch 1.
Bought a PS4 partly for Bloodborne, was one of the first games I played on the console. This looks really interesting though it's evidently someway away.
Most memorable film for me was Willow, but fantasy films were my favourite genre as a child in the 80s. Would have seen the film for the first time in the long gone VHS rental era. I'd heard he'd not been well, sad news.
I really enjoy the game, but then I really enjoy Turrican. Game also allows you to save and continue with a save state so you dont need to enter a password if you manage your saves and use the rewind feature.

The best improvement would be running not diminishing your energy. Was annoying to have to keep eating just to move fast and was never a feature of the originals. I guess restoring health before fights fixes it to a degree, but you'd still having to keep slowing to a walk when getting about.

Keep coming back to Ridge Racers 2 PSP version on PS4, playing the R4 tracks with the R4 music is probably some of the most enjoyable arcade racing ever for me.
May get back to L.A. Noire on Switch, but not sure will have time.
Re: Opinion: I Never Felt True Nostalgia Until I Played GameCube On Switch 2
Nice console I bought after the Dreamcast. No Switch 2 here, but I did try my old F-Zero disc on my Wii recently, no idea how I used to be so good at that game, great but very challenging. True nostalgia for me is probably more something like Ocean's Platoon on the C64.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (14th June)
Finally got around to playing L.A. Noire for the first time, as on sale. I really enjoy classical Hollywood films, so the setting and style appeal to me so far. Re: Some Fans Are Drawing Unfavourable Comparisons Between Switch 2 And Xbox One
Re: Some Fans Are Drawing Unfavourable Comparisons Between Switch 2 And Xbox One
It's far less passive aggressive in it's phrasing. The Xbox incident was pretty much 'if you dont like it, lump it'.
Re: Community: Which Switch 2 Games Are You Wishlisting?
Re: Sonic X Shadow Generations "Coming Soon" To Switch 2, Here's A First Look
@Darthmoogle would be good, lets hope so. However, I'd not be paying full price to upgrade if I buy the console, so hopefully more info will come out regarding that too.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (5th April)
Re: Sonic X Shadow Generations "Coming Soon" To Switch 2, Here's A First Look
They just need to add 60fps to the original Switch version. Seems like a perfect candidate for a simple Switch 2 update or 'edition', and less for a whole new version. Be interested to see if they get Shadow to 60fps though, as that game remained 30fps on base PS4 while Sonic Generations was 60fps.
I own the Switch and PS4 version but wouldn't buy the game again just for better performing hand held version. As I own the digital PS4 version if I buy a PS5 I also have access to that version to download for no extra cost.
Re: Opinion: No One Is Talking About The Switch 2's Best Feature
I always turn rumble off on every console, just feels weird to me ever since it was first a thing.
Re: Don't Worry, Duskbloods Will Be "Satisfying" For People Who Dislike PvP, Says Hidetaka Miyazaki
So this is not a proper From Software game in the style of their usual releases. That is disappointing as I have no great interest in multi player focused games. At least there is still the Elden Ring port, just hope it runs well.
Re: The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - All New Features Revealed
I'd take analog triggers over a 'prestige look' any day. I like racing games and having analog triggers is such a simple and common solution for improving gameplay without having to get a steering wheel. It's one thing I really hoped Switch 2 would bring back as a control option.
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour Price Has Been Confirmed
I wouldn't buy this, and with the initial money for the console and Mario Kart being the same price as PS5 with Astrobot in Argos UK right now, it's not a cheap device. Surely they could have absorbed the cost of this to the console, just like the demos which shipped with 3DS. Ultimately it's anyone's choice to pay of course, but it's not a good look I think.
Re: Switch 2's Jump From OLED To LCD Wasn't A Decision Nintendo Took Lightly
HDR and OLED would really be something. Until I see the screen in person not sure how it will compare, but the current OLED screen is so nice compared to my Switch Lite.
Re: Hands On: Cyberpunk 2077 Might Pull A 'Witcher 3' On Switch 2
I do own the PS4 version, I brought it later in a sale and after some patches. It still ran quite badly with lots of glitches, but also I just didn't find the game very interesting or compelling. Not a Switch 2 seller for me personally even if runs better. The From Software game has me interested though.
Re: "Don't Let Nintendo Ruin The Entire Industry" - Is $80 For Mario Kart World A Bridge Too Far?
@Jaquan Thanks, I was reading up on that after. I'd be interested to see if there is a general 'game boost' for non patched games with uncapped frame rates or adaptive resolution. Also how Switch 2 will handle the 720p upscale in portable.
I realise Sony also charge for some 'upgrades' but they are certainly doing somethings better that Nintendo at present. I can download new PS4/PS5 PS1 classics releases for 'free' for example, if I bought them previously on PS3. All those Wii VC games I bought are forever tied to the console.
Re: "DROP THE PRICE!!!" Scream Nintendo Fans During Nintendo's Treehouse Live Broadcast
Re: "Don't Let Nintendo Ruin The Entire Industry" - Is $80 For Mario Kart World A Bridge Too Far?
It's very expensive, plus the cost for Switch 2 Editions if you own the game on Switch is a bad look when many PS4 games offer a substantial performance upgrade on PS5 with game boost, mostly for free. I'd be really interested to see what free enhancements are availble outside of the the actual Switch 2 Editions. I've held off buying a PS5 as yet, but with the Switch 2 reveal and these prices, I'm not sure yet which next console I will for go.
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Priced At $449.99 For The Base Console
I was expecting about that as the upper price in the UK. It's about the most I'd pay, but I'm a bit disappointed it doesn't look like Switch 2 will offer much enhancement to Switch games outside the nominal fees for a 'Switch 2 edition' on select titles. I was hoping something like docked performace in portable mode would be covered. I'll still buy one over PS5 as I really enjoy the portable aspect of Switch.
I am probably one of the few people who also sat up at 'Arcade Achives 2: Ridge Racer', but to be honest that could be on Switch 1.
Re: Fromsoftware's The Duskbloods Looks Like Bloodborne 2, Coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026
Bought a PS4 partly for Bloodborne, was one of the first games I played on the console. This looks really interesting though it's evidently someway away.
Re: Val Kilmer, Acting Legend And One-Time Video Game Voice Artist, Has Died
Most memorable film for me was Willow, but fantasy films were my favourite genre as a child in the 80s. Would have seen the film for the first time in the long gone VHS rental era. I'd heard he'd not been well, sad news.
Re: Mini Review: Rendering Ranger: R2 [Rewind] (Switch) - A Novel Run 'N' Gun/Shooter Hybrid That's Finally Affordable
I really enjoy the game, but then I really enjoy Turrican. Game also allows you to save and continue with a save state so you dont need to enter a password if you manage your saves and use the rewind feature.
