Been playing Lies of P which looks outstanding even on PS4. I really like the game and its one of the better Souls style games I've played. Also bought Star Wars Bounty Hunter as I've never played it, so will see how it is.
I saw this, pretty interesting to see original cutscene actors, the channel's 'Keepers Diary' short fan film is also good. I played the original on Saturn and at the time it was probably one of the most tense, atmospheric video games I'd ever played. It was unthinkable on 16-bit consoles so this felt truly like a new generation.
I think it still holds up, and there is something about those original graphics and tank controls that I like even now. Alisa managed to capture the style so well for a recent game and I really enjoyed that one too. Great to see these actors share in the nostalgia for the game.
Picked up New Star GP in the sale on Switch and I really like the game, aside from the performance which is a bit disappointing. Reminds me of playing Pole Position 2 on my C64, or F1 on the Mega Drive. It's certainly playable on Switch, but I might also get the PS4 version for TV play if it runs better.
May also play some No Man's Sky, downloaded the latest patch last night and the Switch version has improved so much since launch. It may not have a hope to match the current gen, but for a Switch game it looks great now and has much better atmosphere. I did have the game at launch on PS4, so to see even the Switch version where it is now, is quite impressive.
@_Figo_ That's great to hear about Banana Rumble, I might get this one now so thanks for posting the info.
@sword_9mm Roar of Revenge has a very NES type take on this gameplay style which I played previously on Switch, it's simpler, but has more snappy and responsive controls than this demo. Looking at the review though, I wonder if some of the 'upgrades' speed up the gameplay. I feel in the demo the flow feels a bit off, which is a shame.
Was my sense from the demo, the movement was a little heavy and a lot of enemies felt like I needed to stop and duck to hit them. The stage also felt quite long. Ill try it again, but having recently replayed Rastan, it felt speedy and responsive in comparison.
It's a nice emulation, I like the game but I also enjoyed Capcom Vs. SNK more. Weirdly, playing this game docked seemed to cause a short lived burn in of the timer graphics on my (not OLED) TV after only a short play session. Really odd, could be my TV is suddenly on the way out as I can't imagine that could be unique to a single game, but no other Switch games have caused this previously.
@AmplifyMJ Agreed on that, Saturn Quake was great at the time, especially as I played it after the super low framrate version of Doom (which I still completed as was the only version I had access to at the time).
I gave Life is Stange True Colours a try as on sale, but it's not held my interest as the original did on PS3 back in 2015. Also picked up the First and second Samurai games pack for Switch. I remembered the C64 version of the original getting a good review in Zapp!64 and I never did play it. Odd, but interesting weird games. You can really sense that Amiga / C64 style era in the design, though I see the Mega Drive game is totally different to the Amiga version.
Still playing the excellent Parasol Stars (finally having played the game with the Switch release) and it sent me back to try Bubble Bobble 4 Friends again, which is pretty fun too.
I also feel like some simple arcade racing games this week, so maybe some Daytona or Ridge Racer 7 on PS3.
Some Parasol Stars. Also finished my replay of RE Remake in the week so started RE2 (the PS1 version on PS3) again, and Zero on Switch. While had the PS3 out also realised I still had Daytona on there and some other games I played years back, so might explore my PS3 downloads.
@Ooyah Yep me too... and Bubble Bobble was a game I returned to a lot on the C64. I was hoping Parasol Stars would come to the PC Engine VC on Wii, but it's better on the Switch as also portable, also looks great on the OLED.
@LEGEND_MARIOID It's really good... shame that C64 version never appeared. It's more Bubble Bobble than Islands, a game I'd always meant to get to and thanks to the Switch version I finally have. Shame there was no Saturn version... maybe a new release of Bubble Symphony next.
Overall, a fairly stable 30 fps unless you stand under a waterfall, it looks OK. This wasn't built with Switch in mind so it's a compromised version of an upgrade, weirdly. I recall enjoying the original but it felt like a game that had a lot of aspects cut out from the original vision and the ending felt abrupt... that would have actually been an interesting take to me, expand on the original in an anniversary editon.
Last weekend I was playing Resident Evil Remake on Switch so I might get back that. It's a long while since I played it. If I get the PS4 out, I'll also try to play some more Villiage as I think am nearing the end of the game, I'd put the game on hold for a long time. So, mostly the same as last weekend as had little time in the week.
Also might play some Ultra Street Fighter II, I still enjoy the Switch version.
The first game that jumps to mind is Beyond Good and Evil. I recall liking the GameCube version but I don't really remember the gameplay, something tells me it wouldn't hold up so well to me today so I've held off a purchase. Also Shenmue, the 3rd game was such a disappointing game for me which I didn't want to believe as the Dreamcast versions made such an impression on me at the time. I bought the HD versions on PS4, but I've put off replaying them.
I've recently started to replay RE Remake though (which I though would not hold up for some reason), but it suprised me in the sense that it really does.
Well that doesn't sound like Crazy Taxi... Crazy Taxi is an easy to learn, difficult to master arcade game, like many of SEGA"s best. Aside from beating other peoples times, who knows what it could be, maybe you'd be battling to reach customers before other players? Not sure that sounds fun though.
I was a big fan of the first 2 games, I beat all the challenges on the Dreamcast versions. I'll wait and see what this is like, but really I feel the formula should stick to a modestly budgeted but perfectly balanced arcade game.
Last weekend I unexpectedly started playing Resident Evil Villiage as I never did finish the game. Think I am I the forth main area of the game, so may play some more. Aside from that, playing Metroid Zero Mission which has also led me back to replaying some Prime Remastered.
I still remember the trailer with them sitting in the desert... at least it looked like Beyond Good and Evil at that point, those later ones looked like something else entirely.
I played on GameCube, I recall quite liking the game, but finding the ending really abrupt. I've never felt that interested in revisiting the game, but it's good for fans of the original. The performance though, sounds disappointing. The GameCube game I would most want back is Rogue Squadron III.
I had the game on PS3 and I don't know, I just didn't see quite why it had such an impact... I thought it was OK, but just didn't hold my interest even as someone who grew up with video games from the Atari 2600 onwards.
I'd only ever played the original, but I picked up 3 last weekend in Cex as I skipped it when it came out. It's fun enough, but I'm still not sure it's a series for me, will play some more later in the week and see. It looks great though no doubt.
I went to Brighton a few months ago and there was an actual proper GAME shop, not just 'in Sports Direct'. Best thing I've bought there in recent years was the Game Gear / Master System module for the Retron 5, they weirdly had it in stock cheap for collection and it's a pain to find online for a decent price.
Does anyone else find that Battlefront 2 has has performance stutters since the last update, still not fixed by the present one? Its odd they seem to mainly happen at the beginning of a game, even in offline single player. I might try moving the game to internal storage, but the file size takes up so much room I'm not sure its worth it to see if any better.
Metroid: Zero Mission, I did complete this game back on GBA (think I still have the cart) and what a great game it was, and still is. Also may play some Perfect Dark finally, I was a Saturn owner so never had a N64 and only played the demo of the HD version on 360. Need to renew my NSO subscription now too as is about to expire.
Star Wars Battlefront also has a new update, though quickly taking a look it seems Battlefront 2 still has occasional performance hitches on Switch which were introduced in the previous update. Hoth looks immediately better than it did before though. Might check some other maps later, I still find the game enjoyable to play even offline.
I'd not really noticed to be honest. I re-mapped the controls for the familiar duel stick set up and played a bit of the game which felt responsive enough. I had the demo of the HD version on 360.
I'm happy that it looks like Metroid Prime, the lonely isolated atmosphere of the series must be challenging to capture in a punchy trailer. Remastered reminded me of how great the original was, could say it primed a new audience of those who never played it before or like myself, who'd not revisited it in years.
Best scenario would be a PS4 / PS5 situation, you buy it once and is more visually complete on the new hardware. Having said that, the OLED adds a lot to how good a Switch game can look portable, Prime Remastered looks great and this new game looks like it would really benefit from the OLED screen. I'm still hoping Switch 2 launches with an OLED option.
Mainly been playing WRC Generations on PS4 since picking it up in a sale a few weeks back. Best rally game I've played in a long time and still visually impresses me, even on PS4 (Switch is my only other current console at the moment).
Also picked up Vampyr on Switch, it suffers quitle badly in the visuals, but portable on the OLED it can look OK at times. It's an unusual game with some interesting design.
I played the first one on PS4, looked really good, but the world somehow felt a bit like set dressing. By the end, I was a bit bored. Did exploit the fun glitch though where you could get your mount to 'fly'. I started the sequel (again on PS4), but gave up not long into the game. Be interested to see how the Lego version is.
It was fun on PS3, but still not quite as good as I'd wanted it to be. Great Green Hill Zone theme remix though, was great. I had SA on Dreamcast and I missed the Adventure Fields in SA2... Unlocking Green Hill in SA2 (perhaps a precursor to Generations) was almost impossible. I got close, then got lucky as I bought a VMU with a save file with the stage unlocked. Gamefaqs also used to host Dreamcast saves you could download direct to the VMU using the Dreamcast web browser.
Anyway, I found Generations OK, I also liked the 3DS version, so might check it out on Switch. Is it confirmed as 30 or 60fps, I'm not sure. I feel Superstars is underrated though, it provided a much more acurate feeling of 2D Sonic gameplay in 2.5 than the original Generations, in my opinion.
After playing Wizardy some more I've gome back to the great Switch port of Legend of Grimrock.
Also dusted of my PS4 as bought WRC 8 and Generations in the PSN sale. I'd not played the series in a while but they are both really enjoyable rally games for me, at least on PS4, the Switch ports less so.
Working today, but hopefully some more time for Wizardry on Switch. Have my party to about level 9 so far, which felt like a necessary grind once monsters can poison you. I'd never played the original game, but this modern presentation is really great. Also may get back to Penny's Big Break Away.
Picked us Wizardry and really enjoying the game, I'd never played it before but the gameplay holds up and the updated graphics look good on Switch. Also still playing some Endless Ocean Luminous, the online dives are really relaxed to play.
Probably also play some more Super Mario Land, Lotus 2 on the Mega Drive and maybe some Star Wars Battlefront.
No, I had the original game when it released and while I liked the style, I've just never been much of a fan of role-playing games, with the exception of 1st person games like Dungeon Master.
Probably play Super Mario Land some more on NSO, so glad to see it on the sevice and I have a lot of nostala for the game.
Also picked up F1 for the Mega Drive for £5 in CeX, a really good price for a great racing game I'd totally forgotten. Have also gone back to Star Wars: Battlefront 2 for PS4 and after the (52 GB!?) update to actually play the game, am enjoying the space battles a lot, good arcade style action even in single player mode.
Finally! Super Mario Land is one of my favouites, so very glad to see it added. 35 years though, I still remember seeing a 'real' game on a handheld was so impressive at the time, after only having played LCD portable games prior to this.
Still enjoying Endless Ocean Luminous, while the gameplay loop can be repetitive and the story mode is pretty much just a few cut scenes so far, I still find the game enjoyable and have been playing the first online event. I'd like to see them continue to support and evolve the game.
Aside from that, might play some Ghouls 'n Ghosts and still have to finish Penny's Big Breakaway and Freedom Planet 2.
Also realised I have a few 'free' PS1 games on PS4 as I originally bought them on PS3, and they're actually better than the versions I bought years ago as they offer the US version. MediEvil was recently added. That's a good approach to digital retro releases, not asking you to 'buy' them again.

Re: Review: Star Wars: Bounty Hunter (Switch) - A Faithful Remaster For Jango Fett, Warts And All
@SirWalrus Yes I heard that the game runs in 30fps for portable play in an online review, seems strange it's not mentioned here, if that is correct.

I'd like a Twilight Princess port, Metroid Prime 2 would also be good to follow up the great Switch version of the first one.
Re: Hands On: Sonic X Shadow Generations Is A Love Letter To Sonic Adventure 2

Also realised I have a few 'free' PS1 games on PS4 as I originally bought them on PS3, and they're actually better than the versions I bought years ago as they offer the US version. MediEvil was recently added. That's a good approach to digital retro releases, not asking you to 'buy' them again.
