Re: Nintendo Sends Out Second Game-Key Card & Physical Game Survey

Rect_Pola

The survey is not active right now. Probably got inundated so they pulled the plug.

I initially thought the Key Cards were just going to be a glorified way to buy download codes, since the whole point is they're not using the card to store anything. But requiring the card at all times just makes the whole thing mean to consumers, with the burden of needing a physical thing and giving up a full game's data in the memory Ninty put on you to buy.

If they took away the physical requirement and make it equate to buying a digital code, then there'd be no problem. Maybe have it jump to the game if you load it for flourish but don't require it. YES, that screws over the physical buyers, but they were getting screwed already. TBH they've been getting screwed since updates and DLC became part of console gaming.

Re: Nintendo Announces 'Virtual Game Cards' For Switch, Unlocking Digital Lending

Rect_Pola

I'd have to see how this feels over downloading. Especially since my sister and I have our own lites but share a system with the TV.

If only two consoles can set up this swapping thing, than we can't both put our things on and off the shared system. BUT if it's two systems per ACCOUNT, we're fine.

Also how does this play with the cloud saving since only one system can "have" your game at one time?

Re: Soapbox: 'Switch 2' Doesn't Really Need Backwards Compatibility

Rect_Pola

They don't NEED BC to run Metroid Prime 4 on the thing. They've done dual releases before. That was Sony's entire MO until recently, and let's not forget about the black Gameboy cartridges.

I never really needed BC on consoles, BUT have I explicitly enjoyed it on the handhelds, which Switch technically is.

Re: Good Smile Company Announces Mario And Luigi Nendoroid Rerelease, Pre-Orders Now Open

Rect_Pola

I think it's because most Nendoroids have a specific cutsy style that carries the proportions well. Trying to adhere to their actual faces breaks something. That trick worked fine for Sonic b/c his Genesis days had that shape to begin with, and Kirby is just a ball. But on Mario and Luigi the result is anything but cute.

Really should've been a standard Nendo dressed up like them

Re: Poll: Which Is The Best Ganondorf?

Rect_Pola

I'm a fan of Wind Waker. The moment you see he's revealed in the beginning and has you flicked away like the bug you are to him, so many badass points. Made Ganondorf something more than not yet Ganon.

Re: It's Official, E3 2023 Has Been Cancelled

Rect_Pola

This has been a slow decline starting long before covid forced the world to adapt. There are plenty of other shows devs can hobnob in person, the media and fans can get all they need from said shows and fully online "Direct" showcases. E3 is going to stay dead if they don't think of a good reason to justify it's presence besides being another show.

Re: Feature: Samus' Suits, Ranked - Every Metroid Box Art Suit Design, From Worst To Best

Rect_Pola

Dread's suits really are fantastic. The base suit looks beautiful, but I most profoundly adore they made the upgrades feel distinct. The varia orange alludes the strongest to the classic look, but hits different with the white base, and I cannot stress how much I love the gravity suit finally getting it's glow up. It feels like an upgrade from varia, not just fun with pallets.

Re: Pronty, A Metroidvania With Echoes Of BioShock, Swims Onto Switch This March

Rect_Pola

@Jireland92 Why is it a requirement to churn out games to "keep it's title"? Rogue came out in 1980, nobody's demanding roguelike gets a refresh. Not even with roguelite gumming up things. People were confused for maybe the first year (if that), and then it's become so ubiquitous to the lexicon you don't even have to know Rogue existed to know what a roguelike/lite is.

Metroidvania exists as a word in it's own right. Also while Castlevania doesn't have new games (though it's still very relevant), there are legitimate means that make sourcing some of it's biggest titles easy for current gamers.

Re: Talking Point: Which Zelda-Themed Nintendo Console Has The Best Design?

Rect_Pola

Ooo, this tradition had some real bangers.

I'm partial to team classy. OoT 3DS, MM 3DS, and WW WiiU are are all strong (bonus points for MM using a fully shaded render of the mask instead of simpler icon. Makes it fell ominous). But my fave for class appeal is Hyrule Edition 3DS. It's. Just. Beautiful. I want a mural of that thing.

Team simple has it's nice notes, but Between Worlds 3DS was the most clever to date. The Hylian Shield (was that sculpted or just color?) takes second place.

Re: Random: Splatoon 2's Final Splatfest Dictated The Direction Of Splatoon 3

Rect_Pola

For Order I'm imagining a very "city of tomorrow" flavor. I can't imagine it being easy to pull off the urban style Splatoon is known for in that setting.

More interesting is the notion Splatsville grew very fast and very recently, so I wonder if there's going to be a story based reason for the migration. But Inkopolis seems fine so it wasn't the "chaos" of some disaster.
