This weekend, Splatoon 3 really made a splash. Splatfest World Premiere gave us the game's first Splatfest and allowed players across the globe the chance to try out a couple of new weapons and maps, as well as the new Tricolor Turf War mode.
The new Splatfests saw three teams — Rock, Paper, and Scissors — compete for total Splatoon domination, and Team Rock was announced as the victors in Europe, North America, and Japan.
Team Paper came in second, while Team Scissors — who was leading at the halfway point — came in third.
Were you on Team Rock? Or are you disappointed Team Scissors came last? Let us know!

I played for team rock on Saturday morning. I put a lot of hours into Splatoon 2 so will wait for the review to see if 3 is worth purchasing.
That yellow thing is ugly. Why would anyone pick to be on its team?
It's too bad the progress doesn't carry over to the main game. I only say that because I chose Team Rock. Lol
I can't believe Team Paper folded like that.
Yay. I am ecstatic
Good ol' rock. Nothing beats rock.
You're welcome, fellow rockers.
Hope they have better special choices. I love the n-zap but wasn’t impressed with the special.
Went team rock as well but didn’t feel the need to put in as much time this splatfest due to lack of carry over
@Samuel-Flutter Well, paper also didn't make the cut.
@Hck Paper
Enjoyed it, felt slicker in the gameplay and presentation (I played Splatoon 2 for a few hours either side for some comparison). Some of the new specials are fun, though nothing beats the satisfying magic of the inkstrike from Splatoon 1, which many will never know. Day 1 for me, I'm sold.
Bit slow getting this news up aren't ya's.
Congratulations Team Rock! A pretty decided win overall, but I’m kind’ve surprised how close the popularity vote was between rock and scissors.
Tri-Color and the halftime report is a fun concept. I think Tri-Color has more a learning curve for the 1 team, in how to figure out how to play optimally, but I think that will be a stage by stage basis. I happened to have won the first 7 Tri-Colors but it would eventually even out in wins as the tactics became clearer. Tri-color needs an added stage to the rotation though, because having full knowingness of where you’re playing definitely leaves for a distinct weapon advantage.
I ended the Splatfest with a Paper Ruler2 title. I’m curious to see how Snail distribution will work with all of these new details to Splatfest.
In Japan and Australia, Team Scissors actually came in second and Team Paper came last.

I'm actually super surprised that scissors came in last due to how popular Big man is.
@SMUGSLOTH69 that's why they won the first round, but alas lost in defending ticolor turf...
might give them some reason to adjust the rules of that game
I really thought we were going to lose lol.
Scissors lost mainly due to people not knowing how to defend in tricolor turf... I think it might actually be balanced well, but there's def more of a learning curve to defend than to attack.
It was impossible to win in tri-color matches as scissor lmao
@LUIGITORNADO Pearl wasn't any better. I don't know why Nintendo can't just make both their pop stars look...normal. They did it once before--the Squid Sisters were completely fine. Shiver and Marina would make an awesome combo. But pairing them with such unappealing mutant goblins actively discourages me from participating on their team during Splatfests.
@Not_Soos I don’t think it will happen, but if there starts becoming an extreme Bias, they might redesign her, I mean imagine yellow never winning splatfest simply because people just don’t like her.
Not saying that will happen, but it could.
....and I totally forgot about this! This is why I'm not certain I'm buying the new game at launch. I think I've lost interest in the series a bit.
They really need to balance tricolour turf war because literally every game where I was defending, I lost because of the fact that two of the teams work together. Least fun I had in the entire splatfest.
So uncivilized.
have we not learned our lesson with pearl slander. she was an acquired taste i think a lot of people ended up loving after her development in octo expansion
theyre repeating that to another extreme. that said we know nothing of her character, so yes appearance-wise why are her eyes so low down lol
This past weekend was my child's first online experience in a video game. Team Rock...although we consistently got rocked by the other team.
Good stuff. Day One purchase.
I'm not disappointed that my team Scissors lost. When I saw that Scissors were leading the first half of the match I knew that I can do well in the Splatoon 3 tourneys. Whenever they're held when Splatoon 3 comes out. Also it showed me alot of things in the game that liked that were borrowed from several other games which I'm happy with. All in all I'm happy with Splatoon 3 and was glad it helped me not cancel my preorder.
@Sonos My son was also excited to play Splatoon for the first time (he also chose Rock). Now I have to deal with is it out yet until it releases.
Even though we lost, I’m still proud of Team Paper. We did very well for an extreme minority team of 17.02%! Clearly, the precedent of unpopular teams doing a good job will continue in Splatoon 3.
Poor Big Man. In my experience, Team Scissors just blew it in the new mode. Yet I always felt a little bittersweet when Rock helped me win, and now I had good reason. Next time I’m an attacker, I won’t give the other attacking team as much slack, though we do still have to “cooperate” to a point.
@Not_Soos See, and I my opinion, the Squid Sisters were the worst, because they were boring (and looked the exact same). I personally have liked the idols more in each title. So it’s just a matter of opinion.
Also, why do people pick a team based solely on the idol leading it? I understand why they would in this one, because nobody has an opinion on rock paper or scissors, but if it’s a topic you actually have an opinion on, why would you not choose the one you like more, just because you don’t like Frye?
I was Team Rock...can't wait for this game. My kids and I are excited for it
@LUIGITORNADO @Not_Soos I love Frye's design. She's like coffee, you learn to love her over time. She also feels like the outcast of the 3, which suits me perfectly
We failed to Big man.
I was on Scissors, and we were in the lead until the Tri-Color Turfs. Those really destroyed us, one should have to wait more time to be able to take an Ultra Signal... hope they make them a little fairer in the full release, but I understand that we were winning, so the other teams needed a way to catch up. But if we were winning, it means we deserved it, and the Tri-Colors should have been fair for everyone in my opinion. Still, solid start for the game, really had a blast with the Fest.
@Dev9417 Half of my yellow partners kept forgetting to ink the spawn area, which is like 10% of the field. We could have totally beaten rock if people weren't doing this. Anyway, I won 80% of my matches. I did have a great partner for about 5 matches but they were lost to "connection errors".
I did play the demo and admittedly I ended up rage quitting because I was on a massive losing streak. (Seriously how was team scissor leading when pretty much everyone else was kicking my teams behind?)
I put more time into this splatfest than I have many switch games (And I was team Rock so it was double worth it!)
Sweet! I was Team Rock. I only played a few rounds, mostly because I was still feeling pretty lousy from COVID (which I got a few days ago for the first time ever). Plus, my teams in the Turf Wars kept getting creamed by the other teams, which made me feel even worse.
Excellent. Hopefully this moved a view copies
@Not_Soos I don't know why but I like ugly characters in video games and in other media, the gold fish lunch lady is another Splatoon character design I like along with Frye and Pearl. I feel like fiction is saturated with cool, cute and hot characters, it's nice to have some freaky looking and ugly characters.
Woop yay team rock! 😃
I really enjoyed it and thought the tricolour battles were pretty cool.
I've not played as much splatoon 2 as I did the first game so will probably wait a bit before getting 3 but i think I'll be getting it eventually.
Next time Frye, you got this!
Playing for 7 hours as team rock definitely paid off it seems
My brain inserted an et to the second word in the title
I think ai have a Pokemon problem.
I was Team Rock. Absolutely helped my team win. 😎
We Da Roc. 😎 💯 👑 Lol
Too bad for team paper.
It'd be awesome if they held a Grizzco Career Day event.
