Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online N64 Library With Another Game This Week

@Ristar24 both SML and SML 2 are excellent, but I too prefer the first one, as it is faster paced, not as zoomed in and so short and perfect to be played in short bursts. I also miss other first generation Nintendo titles such as Radar Mission and Solar Striker, as I've never played either of them, but am familiar due to always seeing them on the flyers that came with the games back then.

Re: Talking Point: Which Version Of Super Mario Bros. 3 Do You Prefer?

By the way, there is at least one important gameplay difference when comparing the Japanese and Western releases of the original. In Japan, when you are hit, It doesn't matter If you are Super, Racoon, Frog etc, you will always become normal Mario when hit. In the North American version, If you are wearing a suit, you will always become Super Mario when hit. If hit again, you will them become regular Mario. Basically the game is easier by giving you an extra hit point.

I voted GBA Edition because of the extra levels, though the ereader was not a good choice, making them some levels too expensive and others impossible to be played, at least until the WiiU days. And also the ability to visit any world and level at will after beating the game. As a plus It was and still is magical to have such a masterpiece on a small device such as the GBA/GBASP/GBM. They are all excellent versions and my favorite SMB game 2D or not 2D.

Re: Feature: Game Boy Color - A Quarter Century Of Colour Nintendo Handhelds

I voted it's absolutely its own thing because of the exclusive titles that could not be played on the old GB (clear carts) and also because many other titles run better on the GBC, despite being compatible with the older models (black carts such as Ghosts'n Goblins). Also, the plethora of titles released in such short period. But, alas, I don't think the GBC has aged as well as the GBA.

Re: Switch Online Exclusive F-Zero 99 Adds Queen League & Five Additional Tracks

Paulo

@axelhander I thought the same. I think it's incredible how in the GBA games tracks rotate independently from the city/landscape below. Too bad it's absent here in F-Zero 99. Graphically the game has retained something from the GBA games that was one big improvement over the SNES original: the same hovercraft sprite zooms in and out as you approach or distance yourself. Notice how in F-Zero and also Mario Kart from SNES the car model/sprite changes as they zoom in/out.

Re: Switch Online Exclusive F-Zero 99 Adds Queen League & Five Additional Tracks

@nessisonett not at all. I played F-Zero to death back in the SNES era and the game is available on the Switch Online SNES app, but I bet many people playing F-Zero 99 have never played the original. In this case, It makes sense to make tracks available in a slower pace not to overwhelm people. Tracks like Mute City 1 and Big Blue are simple and can easily be played by beginners, whereas many others won't be enjoyed by them. It was actually a smart move to separate pro tracks from easier tracks. What I am curious about the future of F-Zero 99 is If we're getting brand new tracks and modes to see this game go beyond the original.

Re: Poll: Have You Come First In F-Zero 99 Yet?

Paulo

I haven't been 1st or even top 3. I placed 4th a couple times on White Land 1 though. I've completed Grand Prix just once, finally unlocking Silence yesterday. And everytime I played Mini Prix I've managed to complete it. And with Silence unlocked, I finally have all 7 tracks available so Far unlocked for practice. F-Zero 99 is an excellent game, easily the best of the 99 games so far. Really wish we got a new F-Zero or maybe F-Zero SNES HD with this mode.

66 Nintendo published titles for just one platform is really impressive (making a list of Nintendo published titles that didn't make It would have been much less demanding). Having said that, it's just too bad that Nintendo didn't release titles that didn't perform as well in the past, because with Switch's huge install base, they could have been franchise's best selling titles (Wave Race, 1080, Star Fox Zero, Pilotwings, Excite Truck, F-Zero, Kid Icarus)

Re: 50 Best NES Games Of All Time

Excellent list, so many great games. We were happy back then and we knew it.

There are 2 hidden gems criminally missing from this list though: The Guardian Legend and The Battle of Olympus

Re: Nintendo Download: 6th July (North America)

@Cashews I get your point and agree. Pinball FX itself is free with 3 tables. Unless there is a Very good sale, I only intend to buy new tables not previously released on Pinball FX 3, like Garfield and Peanuts, since I love the strips and characters.

Excellent list of titles with a few good surprises. But with such a great selling system, I wish Nintendo hadn't been as conservative in bringing back classics that could have had a better chance with a bigger audience: Wave Race, 1080, Excite Truck, F-Zero, Rhythm Haven, Star Fox outside a comeo in Star Link, Kid Icarus, Sin & Punishment and even smaller titles such as Pushmo. I was positive we would see at least 2 or 3 with these, but it seems the chances are rather slim now.

Re: Soapbox: Game & Watch Still Scratches A Very Particular Itch, And I Need More

Paulo

I love Game & Watch (and Mr Game & Watch is one of my favorite in Smash). According to Wikipedia, there are 62 titles. There have been 5 Gallery games (including one exclusive to Europe), 9 games releases for DSI, 2 Club Nintendo games for DS (one of which has an interesting mix of Parachute and Octopus as a vertical multi-screen game) and a few rereleases here and there, like e-reader for GBA. Unfortunately, Nintendo is usually economical with these releases, only offering a handful of titles and some were never rereleased (and some never will like the Disney, Popeye and Snoopy games). The biggest missed opportunities in my opinion were: only releasing 3 vertical multi-screen titles for the DS Collection (there are 12 titles only one of which is a Disney game), releasing so few titles for DSIWare and not including more games in the 35th anniversary Super Mario and Zelda Game and Watch releases (no Super Mario Bros, no Mario's Cement Factory and not even the only Zelda G&W, come on) The game that offers the most titles by far is G&W Gallery 4 for GBA, with 19 in total, though many are unlockable and it took me a long time to in unlock the last one, Zelda, which basically requires you get almost every star. The good news is that the reproduction of these titles has gotten better over time: the GBA and DS releases are excellent. And yes, we need more G&W and a new release with all titles would be lovely and an instant buy from me.
