@SalvorHardin I am not worried, at least not in the short term. Yamauchi didn't have the heart of a gamer, but owned the Company and was the one who made It all possíble and had good instincts including making the right choice of appointing Iwata, but It must nit have been easy for Nintendo and its staff to lose Yamauchi in 2013 and Iwata so soon in 2015.
Nintendo is doing fine these days, but something is different from the Iwata days. Maybe It's because It seems the Company is being run by cold executives and not someone who has the heart of a gamer who really loves the job, the Company and the fans. Maybe It's on purpose to not have a strong and charismatic figurehead. And two of my favorite Nintendo systems are from the Iwata era: the GBA (released under Yamauchi though the SP and Micro were from Iwata) and the Wii.
No October Direct with Switch 2 launching soon means that there is not much more planned for Switch besides what was announced in June. We still have Mario Party, Mario & Luigi and Donkey Kong. Switch 2 will probably launch soon afterwards with Prime 4 cross gen.
@darkswabber Here's hoping too, and It will probably happen, since Nintendo has been celebrating the Super Mario Bros anniversay in September 13 every five years since the 20th anniversay in 2005 (2005 with GBM and Famicom Mini Super Mario Bros for GBA, 2010 with Super Mario All-Stars for Wii and a Special Wii with SMB 25 game, 2015 with Super Mario Maker and the 2020 blowout with a Special Direct, Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Super Mario 35, the Game & Watch and Bowser's Fury). I'm.excited for what's next.
Let us hope the price hike doesn't get Nintendo too excited. Considering Switch is still 300 and the Oled is 350, I'm expecting Switch 2 to cost at least 400 to 450, depending on how many models are available at launch, with a lite model costing less If and when available.
Excellent release by Konami, standing out with its retro compilations (a hat trick of Castlevania, and also Contra, TMNT and Arcade compilations). Too bad WiiWare's Castlevania The Adventure Rebirth is still missing. By the way Konami, where is my Mystical Ninja/Goemon collection?
"For those not aware (or those who haven't watched the above trailer yet), Victory Heat Rally is an arcade-style racer that recreates 'SuperScaler' visuals to nail some classic OutRun / Ridge Racer vibes." Actually, the game they are trying to emulate is Sega's Power Driift from 1988 (also on 3DS)
Considering the Switch never got a price cut, only bundles, and the lite costs 200, the regular costs 300 and the oled 350, It's reasonable to expect at least 350 and maybe 400, with a lite version arriving later for 250.
I voted Japan because the contrast between the 2 games was handled perfectly. The North America variant is beatiful using the less-is-more approach, but the "includes new multiplayers adventure Four Swords" logo seems out of place and hurts the composition overall
@Expa0 why do you think Metroid Dread, of all games, is medíocre? It's one of my favorite Switch titles, an improvement from Mercury Steam's previous Metroid effort and probably one of the best in the series.
Honestly Rio 2016 WiiU was better than Tokyo 2020. Rio 2016 had tournaments, Heroes Showdown and other fun modes like the Rio Carnaval. The only scenario, Copacabana Beach, was a delight with Miis from different countries, always crowded and with new things to see a buy. Tokyo 2020 on Switch on the other hand tries to emulate the inferior 3DS version, with a lot of maps, but empty with no life whatsoever. Honestly I missed Heroes Showdown and Tournaments, because when you finish the story, there is much to do, only play the individual sports. Missed opportunity not having a Rugby or Soccer tournament. By the way, the change of câmera of Rugby Sevens also made It worse on Switch compared to that Wiiu game. And of course the series must have had a decline in popularity after its origins as a motion-controlled game in the Wii years, I bet the Switch version don't sell well. So yeah, the series don't go out with a bang, but makes sense to retire when the characters go back home to Japan. And I suspected the series wouldn't last forever after skipping the Winter games in 2018 and again in 2022 (all Olympics from 2008 to 2016 were covered, Winter or Summer). But If you want to play these games, either on Wii, WiiU, DS, 3DS or Switch, Winter or Summer games, grab a physical copy while you can, because there is a very low probability of these games being rereleased officially due to license and lack of interest in Olympic games gone by. The Switch game is still on the eshop, but I remember the WiiU and 3DS games were gone before the eshop closed.
Looking great. "What an odyssey" literally, as this is truly inspired by Super Mario Odyssey, but having more emphasis (and variety) on the 2D sections, and I mean that as a compliment, considering that was an extraordinary gameplay mechanism (who wouldn't look forward to the next 2D segment in every new stage in SMO?)
@carlos82 the Wiimote wasn't exactly a light gun, but It was close. Playing with just the Wiimote was ok, but playing Ghost Squad and Crossbow Training with the Zapper was great, while other games like House of the Dead were better with the Perfect Shot. Much better than on Switch, no comparison.
@WaveBoy yeah, no recent consoles did on rails-shooters like the Wii. I think Forever's Panzer Dragoon was a lot better than HOTD, so I wish they were releasing Panzer Dragoon 2 instead.
@stevep even though Wii's output leaves a lot to be desired on modern TVs, I still play It from time to time, because many games are so unique and fun to play, like the on-rail shooters and many others
@LadyCharlie why 5 or 6 when there are no faults in the game except for the lack of online multiplayer? We can complain about the price, but scoring based on the price doesn't seem fair. Would this be an 8 or 9 iif It cost $15? I am sure this will be on sale sooner than later. Also, comparing to free games like F-Zero 99 hides the fact that It will go offline someday (or be unplayable If you don't renew your NSO subscription), whereas NeoSprint will be playable as long as your system functions, no wi-fi required to play.
Great direct overall, but not excellent. I was sure Mario & Luigi was gonna be a port, so It's a good surprise that It's a new game. But 3 Mario RPGs in a year I think is a bit too much. Speaking of ports, I thought we would get more at this point, but the only ones announced was DKCR. No Star Fox, no Wave Race, no F-Zero, no 1080, no Excite Truck, no Rhythm Heaven, no Eternal Darkness. Nintendo is being too conservative, because It's clear now there has to be a Zelda game every year and 3 Mario games (though Nintendo seems to be giving Dr Mario a break after the mobile game failed), leaving less room, budget and developers for other riskier games, like the ones listed above and even smaller games, like Pushmo. But Zelda was a nice surprise (though I still hope we can get Zelda 1 and 2 remakes). Mario & Sonic missed the Winter Olympics games and now Will miss the First Summer Olympics since the series started in 2008, meaning the series is on hold for now or dead (or maybe Sega doesn't hold the rights anymore, but let's be honest Tokyo 2020 was a weak game). And the best trailer Nintendo put today has to be MP 4. The fact that It was the only game with no release date means that It"a coming for Switch and Switch 2, at least I think It does. Also completely absent and probably on the way out are amiibo: If Zelda doesn't get any, this probably means we won't see another anytime soon, If ever.
Hard to guess what to expect, but on the other hand the 3DS had some big titles after the Switch was released. First of all, by this point I expect MP4 to be cross-gen, so It's a no-show tomorrow. Expect some smaller titles (Rhythm Heaven, Pushmo, Dr Mario etc) and ports of WiiU titles and remaster of 3DS/Wii/GC titles. By the way, since the Olympics start in 40 days, this is the last chance for a surprise announcement of Mario & Sonic at Paris 2024 (I think Sega abandoned the Summer games the same way they abandoned the Winter games after 2014. No big loss since Tokyo 2020 was a disapoimtment in my opinion and worse than Rio 2016 for WiiU)
@stevep I only purchased House of the Dead 1 Remake because It was on sale for $ 5. But yeah It's a Lot more Fun playing House of the Dead 2 & 3 on Wii (I use the Nyko Perfect Shot). Wish they had made another Panzer Dragoon instead (or another forgotten Sega game like Nights)
I am not expecting much, since we already know this is Switch's last holiday season (and therefore the bigger teams are working for It). We can get Pushmo, Rhythm Heaven, Dr Mario, and some remaster (been waiting for Star Fox Zero and Wave Race in glorious HD for years). Let's just hope the hype for Switch 2 doesn't kill these games out of the gate. And yes, I am expecting Metroid Prime 4 to be cross-generation and be unvieled alongside the new console.
Honestly I have been expecting a remake of Zelda 1 and 2 with modern graphics since I played Super Mario All-Stars in 1993. Both are excellent games that have a huge potential for remakes. Link's Awakening for Switch is amazing despite the game's strict design, but considering Zelda 1 is open world, it would have been a better fit on Switch.
I would consider retro all generatioms up to N64. That includes Pong, Atari, NES, Master System, Tubographix, Genesis, SNES, Neo Geo, Saturn, PS1, N64, the Boys (GB, GBC and GBA and all related handheld by other manufacturers). I say this because: 1. Pixel 2D games are widely considered retro and 2. Most generatioms past GC/PS2/XBOX still hold up very well to this day. Considering retro what came up 10 years ago is not a good indicator by me (heck, DKCTF, MK8 and SSB came to WiiU in 2014 and these are still very modern games)
I used to believe Switch 2 would repeat Switch 2 and launch in March. Not anymore though, after today's announcement. The reveal will come very late in the year or early 2025, to let Switch shine on black Friday and the Holiday season, with a June-September release. And I believe a 3D Mario, Animal Crossing, a Mario spinoff like Kart or Party, and also a remade Zelda games are releasing before Holiday 2025 (with Metroid Prime 4 cross-gen and the final 1st party Switch 1 game). And of course at lauch a quirty and innovative title (like the Switch had 1-2 Switch and Arms).
GBA games cost 30 to 35 dollars at most back in the day (Nintendo only raised the price to 40 with the Nintendo DS and continued with the same price for 3DS for top tier games), and many were released at 20 dollars and there were a few that cost 15 dollars. That was 20 years ago, but even when considering this, 60 dollars is a bit steep. On the other hand, the other good GBA new game, Goodboy Galaxy (where is the review, NintendoLife?), is being sold in the regular edition for 55 euros, which is basically 60 dollars. So, there is nowhere to run If you want to play on the original GBA in a regular cart.
"Those brand new Plus (+) versions of each world" No, they are not. The GBA original had the ordinary worlds, the plus worlds and the expert levels. "The two new worlds, Merry Mini-Land and Slippery Slope..." That is correct, those are the new levels.

Classic Séries NES is the best. Too bad It's not an original piece, but just a ripoff of the cover of Metroid II for the Game Boy, with Samus art from that game. Had they used the same pose but with art from the first game, It would get my vote. But since It didn't, I vote for the original grey pixel art cover.
