Re: Video: 100 Amazing Wii Games In 20 Minutes

Paulo

Wii has so many incredible games. Plus, the Wiimote was so inviting for play. Pointer controls have never been this good.

My favorite on the list probably are Batallion Wars, Boom Blox, Deadly Creatures, DKC Returns, Dr Mario, Excite Truck, Ghost Squad, Épic Mickey, Goldeneye, House of the Dead Overkill, Kirby Épic Yarn, MadWorld, Mario Kart, Mario Strikers Charges, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Metroid Other M, Muramasa, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Okami, Pikmin, Prince of Perdia Forgotten Sands, Rabbids Go Home, Red Steel 2, RE 4, Sim & Punishment, Silent Hill, Sonic Colors, Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Smash Bros, Super Paper Mario, Trauma Team, Wario Land Shake It, Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, Zack & Wiki, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword and Link's Crossbow Training.

Not on the list: Punch-Out, Need for Speed Nitro, Trauma Center, Trauma Center New Blood, Jett Rocket, Fun Fun Minigolf, FAST, Art of Balance, Nyx Quest, Dive and many others.

How did he miss Punch-Out on the list?

Re: Talking Point: If Nintendo Released Them, Would You Play Virtual Boy Games In 2021?

Paulo

Regarding the release of Virtual Boy titles on the 3DS, a shareholder asked about this on the 73rd Annual General Meeting of Shareholders.

Q3: I have been waiting for the return of Virtual Boy ever since the launch of the Virtual Console service for Nintendo 3DS. Do you have any concrete plans? I would like you to look into the possibility since I feel that there is a fairly large number of people in my generation and later generations who have not played Virtual Boy.

A3 Iwata: I cannot talk about any unannounced products on occasions like this, but Virtual Boy is a game console Nintendo launched in the past that allows players to experience a 3D world in black and red only by just looking into it. It was not a commercial success, but some say that it was an attractive and extremely unique product by the standards at that time. I believe your comment is that we should take advantage of our software assets from Virtual Boy and I would like to take note of that advice for the future.

Re: Talking Point: If Nintendo Released Them, Would You Play Virtual Boy Games In 2021?

Paulo

For a system with so few games, there are many gems like Wario Land, Mario Clash, Galactic Pinball, Teleroboxer, Red Alarm and others (never got to play Jack Bros and I wish Zero Racers, Bound High and Dragon Hopper had been released). Yes, they are all short, arcade like experiences, but that's exactly the point, since the devs knew the system could not be played for long períods of time.

Re: Talking Point: New Super Mario Bros. Is 15 Years Old, And It's Still Fantastic

Paulo

All 4 New Super Mario and Super Luigi are excellent games, the weakest being New Super Mario Bros 2, if you don't count Mario Run. The fact that NSMB 2 was not stellar and released 3 months before NSMBU damaged the series a bit in my opinion. I am looking forward to more 2D Super Mario, but here's hoping the next one either has a big overhaul or has a change in presentation.

Here is my overall ranking:

NSMBU>NSMBW>NSLB>NSMB>NSMB2/Run

Re: Rumour: Get That Salt Ready, Apple Is Reportedly Working On A Nintendo Switch-Style Hybrid Console

Paulo

An unlikely rumour.

And Apple products are expensive. How much would it cost? The most expensive a Nintendo console has been is the WiiU with a game for $ 350. Now you can grab a Switch for $ 300 and a Lite for $ 200. If the long rumoured Switch Pro or New Switch released, I doubt It would cost $ 399, most likely $ 350. Or Nintendo could just wait a few more years and release a Switch 2. I don't think Apple can match the cost benefit of Nintendo handheld.

Re: Talking Point: Surely It's Time For Game Boy On Nintendo Switch Online?

Paulo

Many GB games haven't aged very well, although games such as Super Mario Land 1 and 2, Wario Land series, Link's Awakening, Tetris and smaller games such as Mole Mania surely have aged well

The GBA, on the other hand, is a monster and one of Nintendo's best system. Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission should be everywhere.

Re: The Legendary Silver and Teal Game Boy Advance, From Space World 2000, Has Been Found

Paulo

@Zuljaras you are right, and if you use a leather or silicone case, It won't scratch at all. The AGS-101 is a marvel indeed.

I have more than 1 Micro because I bought them at the right time. Around 2006 until 2008 if I recall correctly, you could still find them in online stores for real cheap, because nobody was buying them. I bought one sealed in an online store for 40 dollars.

Re: The Legendary Silver and Teal Game Boy Advance, From Space World 2000, Has Been Found

Paulo

@Zuljaras all 3 GBA models have pros and cons.

The original model is the most confortable, yet the lack of front or backlite really hurt. Using alcaline batteries is bad in the short term but better in the long term, since rechargeable batteries lose power over the years.

The GBM is very confortable to me, I have no problem holding It and seeing the action. The lack of GB/GBC compatibility is a con, but I wouldn't want to use carts that big in a console that is supposed to fit in any pocket.

The SP might just be the best overall. Confortable, but not so much as the original. Front or backlight. Compatible with GB/GBC/GBA. Though It is the most fragile and the most susceptible to scratches in the casing.

My favorite? Game Boy Micro.

Re: How Do You Feel About Mario After His 35th Anniversary? Nintendo Apparently Wants To Know

Paulo

Here's a recap os Super Mario's anniversary products:

10th: Yoshi's Island

20th: Special Game Boy Micro and the rerelease of Famicom Mini Super Mario Bros in an Special package;

25th: Super Mario All-Stars for Wii in a beautiful package with soundtrack and an artbook;

30th: Super Mario Maker;

35th: Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Super Mario Bros 35, Game & Watch, Super Mario All-Stars for SNES app and Bowser's Fury.

So, yes, the 35th was the most packed anniversary. Also, it's rare to get Super Mario rereleases with enhancements (I can only think of SMAS, the Mario rereleases on GBC and GBA and Super Mario 64 DS, not counting the Switch ports), so Super Mario 3D All-Stars was truly Special even with the lack of Galaxy 2.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Miss Instruction Manuals?

Paulo

Manuals were a fun way to interact with the game when not playing by reading the story and seeing the artwork, especially in the hours and days my parents wouldn't allow me to play.

The Super Mario Bros 3 manual shown in this article is one of my favorita manuals, along with Zelda 1-4.

But another fact is that in the late 90s, some manuals started to lose color pages, artworks and a detailed story, feeling boring as a result.

It also helped me to learn english, though of course never replaced an english course. So, "yes, I miss them dearly".

Re: Super Nintendo World Could Be Forced To Close Just One Month After Opening

Paulo

@samuraicop the park was planned years ago, way before the pandemic. Yes, Nintendo will makes money of this, but in their eyes it will bring smile to people's faces during such a dark time. And they are not wrong, as those of us not in Japan love seeing pics and vídeos of the park. And people in Japan are not forced to go to the park, they can go when they feel it's safe.

And what has Nintendo to do with the situation in Brazil?

Re: Talking Point: Is The N64 Pad Actually The Best Controller Ever?

Paulo

It's a fine controller with 2 problems: the stick starts to get loose after many hours of play, even if you are careful and don't play Mario Party. The second problem is a design one: you cannot use 3 grips with 2 hands, so if the game used the stick for character movement, it was not practical to use the d-pad for other function, and vice-versa, so either the stick or the d-pad was not used, depending on the game.

Re: Feature: Best Game Boy Advance (GBA) Games

Paulo

Excellent list that shows perfectly how amazing the GBA still is. Honestly I am still in love with the GBA SP and especially the Micro. I still buy games to this day, some complete in box and some cart only, though I have noticed a spike in prices recently and the repro carts are plaguing the market. All in all, I love the Micro and I still think Nintendo hasn't topped it, portable-wise.
