And Apple products are expensive. How much would it cost? The most expensive a Nintendo console has been is the WiiU with a game for $ 350. Now you can grab a Switch for $ 300 and a Lite for $ 200. If the long rumoured Switch Pro or New Switch released, I doubt It would cost $ 399, most likely $ 350. Or Nintendo could just wait a few more years and release a Switch 2. I don't think Apple can match the cost benefit of Nintendo handheld.
Many GB games haven't aged very well, although games such as Super Mario Land 1 and 2, Wario Land series, Link's Awakening, Tetris and smaller games such as Mole Mania surely have aged well
The GBA, on the other hand, is a monster and one of Nintendo's best system. Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission should be everywhere.
@Zuljaras you are right, and if you use a leather or silicone case, It won't scratch at all. The AGS-101 is a marvel indeed.
I have more than 1 Micro because I bought them at the right time. Around 2006 until 2008 if I recall correctly, you could still find them in online stores for real cheap, because nobody was buying them. I bought one sealed in an online store for 40 dollars.
The original model is the most confortable, yet the lack of front or backlite really hurt. Using alcaline batteries is bad in the short term but better in the long term, since rechargeable batteries lose power over the years.
The GBM is very confortable to me, I have no problem holding It and seeing the action. The lack of GB/GBC compatibility is a con, but I wouldn't want to use carts that big in a console that is supposed to fit in any pocket.
The SP might just be the best overall. Confortable, but not so much as the original. Front or backlight. Compatible with GB/GBC/GBA. Though It is the most fragile and the most susceptible to scratches in the casing.
The Game & Watch Super Mario Bros was kind of a "Classic Edition" release, but with fewer games than it should have had (Super Mario Bros 2, Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario Land, Super Mario Land 2, Mario's Cement Factory and G&W Super Mario Bros were no-brainers that should have been included).
Here's a recap os Super Mario's anniversary products:
10th: Yoshi's Island
20th: Special Game Boy Micro and the rerelease of Famicom Mini Super Mario Bros in an Special package;
25th: Super Mario All-Stars for Wii in a beautiful package with soundtrack and an artbook;
30th: Super Mario Maker;
35th: Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Super Mario Bros 35, Game & Watch, Super Mario All-Stars for SNES app and Bowser's Fury.
So, yes, the 35th was the most packed anniversary. Also, it's rare to get Super Mario rereleases with enhancements (I can only think of SMAS, the Mario rereleases on GBC and GBA and Super Mario 64 DS, not counting the Switch ports), so Super Mario 3D All-Stars was truly Special even with the lack of Galaxy 2.
Manuals were a fun way to interact with the game when not playing by reading the story and seeing the artwork, especially in the hours and days my parents wouldn't allow me to play.
The Super Mario Bros 3 manual shown in this article is one of my favorita manuals, along with Zelda 1-4.
But another fact is that in the late 90s, some manuals started to lose color pages, artworks and a detailed story, feeling boring as a result.
It also helped me to learn english, though of course never replaced an english course. So, "yes, I miss them dearly".
@samuraicop the park was planned years ago, way before the pandemic. Yes, Nintendo will makes money of this, but in their eyes it will bring smile to people's faces during such a dark time. And they are not wrong, as those of us not in Japan love seeing pics and vídeos of the park. And people in Japan are not forced to go to the park, they can go when they feel it's safe.
And what has Nintendo to do with the situation in Brazil?
@asmi8803 seems like Iwata admired Jobs and Apple. But I heard that Jobs was a very tough strict boss who often got angry and yelled, as genius as he was. Iwata was quite the contrary of this, always trying to know and understand his staff.
Star Fox, 64 and Zero are the best games in the series. Zero deserved much more love than it got. Except for the variety of the stages in the branching paths, I thought Zero was superior to 64 in many ways.
Funny you mention Shin'en. I am always looking forward to their next project, be it Touryst 2 or a glorious shoot em up. They haven't released a new title since November 2019. Been a fan since Iridion 2 for the GBA.
It's a fine controller with 2 problems: the stick starts to get loose after many hours of play, even if you are careful and don't play Mario Party. The second problem is a design one: you cannot use 3 grips with 2 hands, so if the game used the stick for character movement, it was not practical to use the d-pad for other function, and vice-versa, so either the stick or the d-pad was not used, depending on the game.
Excellent list that shows perfectly how amazing the GBA still is. Honestly I am still in love with the GBA SP and especially the Micro. I still buy games to this day, some complete in box and some cart only, though I have noticed a spike in prices recently and the repro carts are plaguing the market. All in all, I love the Micro and I still think Nintendo hasn't topped it, portable-wise.
Back in the old days, manuals with lore and art were part of the experience. Of course games these days are much more cinematic than before, but honestly I always feel there is something missing.
Wings of silver Nerves of steel Silverhaaaawks Partly Metal, Partly Real SilverHawks Soaring through the Highway of the heavens in their fight SilverHawks, a rainbow in the night
Might grab the Ghosts'n Goblins armor. But that's not exactly what I wanted.
Remember the Smash ballot way back in 2014 or 2015? I chose Arthur as the fighter. A stage bases on Ghosts'n Goblins would be very cool and the soundtrack is great. Best would be the character. Imagine if he lost his armor when reaching 100%.
Quite a magical game indeed that in some ways even surpasses A Link to the Past, which is quite a miracle considering the hardware they run on and the humble beginnings of this project. I also have to admit that the original 1993 release is the best version of the game.
"It's hard to come to terms with mortality in life. It's hard for me to truly ever grasp the concept that I'll never see my grandparents again - in my mind, they'll always just be out of sight. But life changes, and the world moves on, and some people get left behind. That doesn't mean they were never there, and it doesn't mean we'll forget them".
I have lost all my grandparents as well. I feel that as long as I remember them, they will never truly be gone.
Zelda II is excellent. Honestly, Ocarina of Time owes a lot to this second title, besides the name of the sabes. Look for early screenshots released in 1997: the town looks exactly like a town from The Adventure of Link. The combat too. Beating Shadow Link in Zelda II and a Darknut in Ocarina require skill.
And yes. Zelda I and Zelda II are long overdue for remakes. Please, Nintendo, please!
Pro tip: the Famicom Mini versions (GBA) of Zelda, Zelda 2, Metroid, Kid Icarus, Castlevania and others are based on the Famicom Disk system versions of each game, enhanced soundtrack included.
The Direct was fine, but where is Metroid (a 2D one is fine even Samus Returns HD), Pilotwings, F-Zero, Wave Race, Mario Strikers or Excite Trucks HD? I even miss smaller download only games such as Pushmo, Dr Mario and Mario vs Donkey Kong.
@Kidfunkadelic83 Legend of the Mystical Ninja is on the Super Famicom Mini. The series is Goemon. There are instsllments on the NES, GB, GBA, SNES and N64. The first game that came to the west was precisely Legend of the Mystical Ninja for the SNES, though its sequels did not, unfortunately. Then in the late 90s the series reappeared as Mystical Ninja featuring Goemon with 1 game for the GB and 2 for the N64. Did not enjoy the GB one, and the second for the N64 is excellent. Haven't played all the instsllments and the first SNES title is my favorite.

@AnnoyingFrenzy I'm pretty sure Microsoft is watching the sales of BK on Smash and having the profits. If the numbers are good enough, they might try another game in the series. I just don't think Rare is up to the task, so who would they outsource it to?
By the way, my favorite games in the series are as follows: BK > Grunty's Revenge > BT > Pilot > Nuts and Bults.
Grunty's Revenge is short and sweet. BT has many brillant moments, but I believe the levels are larger and more complex than they should be.
Nintendo should give this kid, at the very least, a Game & Watch Super Mario Bros. If they are generous, give him a Switch with Mario Kart and Mario U.
There are actually 5 classes of Super Mario games here: the classic ones, Doki Doki Panic, the Land series, the New series and the Maker.
The classic series is obviously the best, with the downside of no simultaneous multiplayer. Doki Doki is an excellent design, gave us Shy Guy, Bob-ombs with no Reebok shoes and Wart. SML is different and still great. The New series has ups and downs and NSMBU is my favorite. And I had more fun with SMM 1 than 2.
