Re: Pac-Man World 2 Is Getting The Re-Pac Treatment

OorWullie

@PikminMarioKirby If there's enough people like yourself, who just refuse to buy GameKey releases, and I suspect there is, game sales will be lower than anticipated and publishers will have no choice but to go back to physical. It seems sales for Yakuza 0 and Sonic Generations were low, then Sonic Crossworld was announced as being on the cart. So perhaps it's already working. I'd wager by this time next year, most big releases will come on the cart.

If GameKey sales are low, then it might also force Nintendo into making smaller Switch 2 carts available. If it's true they are only offering 64gb carts, then much of the blame lays on them. That doesn't excuse Sega and Capcom releasing 50gb+ games as GameKeys though.

Re: Taito's 'Field Day' Sprints Onto Switch Today Via Arcade Archives

OorWullie

I have Arcade Archives Track and Field and Hyper Sports. Love the former, not so keen on the latter. I used to play Daley Thompson's Decathlon on the Speccy a lot with my friend, great button masher. Olympic Gold on the Megadrive is probably my favourite. I have nice memories linked to that, as my uncle bought it for me while visiting him at his army barracks with my parents and we all played it together.

Re: Hollow Knight: Silksong Will Be Playable At Gamescom 2025

OorWullie

Everyone talks about Hollow Knight and how long we've been waiting for its sequel but it's been even longer a wait for Playdead's next game. Nine years have passed since Inside released and 7 years since they announced the next game they were working on. As far as I'm aware, they've only shown some concept art to date.

Re: Review: WWE 2K25 (Switch 2) - The Best Wrestling Game You'll Find On A Switch

OorWullie

As someone who has never really liked wrestling outside of Big Daddy v Giant Haystacks, and who hated it when wrestling games were chosen for multiplayer nights on the 64, I clicked on this review merely out of curiosity for the review score. Yet I ended up reading the whole review and now I want to play it.

I might actually buy this in a couple of years when it's on sale.

Re: Random: DK Enthusiast Breaks Switch 2 In Bananas Spray Painting Job Gone Wrong

OorWullie

Look at the cart
Its hue it just won't do
To match the games you knew
It needs to be yellow

I came along
I sprayed the cart for you
Of all the things to do
And now it's all yellow.

So then I took a turn
Oh, what a thing to have done
And it was all yellow

Your Switch, oh yeah, your Switch is done
Turned into something not useful
And you know, I do regret it so
I do regret it so

Re: ICYMI: Koei Tecmo Has Released A 'Wild Hearts S' Demo On Switch 2

OorWullie

Watching this comparison video between the PS5 Pro version and Switch 2 , my first impression was, the Switch 2 version looks much better, with a much sharper and more colourful image. It's quite striking the difference between the 2. After watching more of the footage, it becomes apparent the PS5 version has some extra effects going on and probably is better looking overall. But in screenshots, most folks would assume the S2 screens are from the PS5 Pro.

Re: Danger Mouse Is Back With A New Game Tie-In For The Switch

OorWullie

I loved Danger Mouse back in the day.. From the screenshots, this looks like it could be decent. If it is and does well, I'd love them to do a Duckula or Banaman game, so much potential.

On another note, why is there not a decent He-Man or Thundercats beat em up. Just think of the possibilities.

Re: Nintendo Has Seemingly Taken Further Steps To Combat 'eSlop' On Switch 2

OorWullie

For the first year or so after Switch released, the Eshop was enjoyable to browse. I remember reading that weekly releases were being curated, before they eventually opened up to everyone. How true that was I'm not sure but it certainly seemed to be. Browsing the Eshop was fun and I used to look forward to opening it every Thursday as the overall quality was fairly high. With terrible games like Vroom in the Night Sky standing out, to the point I can still remember its name all these years later. Nowadays, multiple games of far lower quality than Vroom are released twice weekly.

Re: Super Mario 3D All-Stars Updated To Version 1.1.3, "Improves Gameplay" On Switch 2

OorWullie

I am happy I bought this digitally when I did. Mario Galaxy looks fantastic. The image quality is very nice. It all looks so clean, with no jaggy edges or flickering lines. I go back to it every now and again. One of Nintendo's very best games, looking the best it ever has.

I was never really a fan of Sunshine and that hasn't changed. But it too is looking the best it ever has. 64 though is a disappointment, with little extra effort put into it. It should really have been updated to widescreen, 60fps and optimised for playing on modern controllers. I find it very difficult to play nowadays. Which is a shame, considering how much nostalgia I have for it. A game as important as Mario 64 deserves better. If someone.who loved the game 28 years ago struggles to play the game on a Pro controller, I can't imagine how it must feel to someome who grew up with the last 2 or 3 gens. Same goes for Goldeneye, it's a nightmare to play with a Pro.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 System Update 20.2.0 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

OorWullie

@OctolingKing13 Glad to see some still keeping the tradition going. Most have given up. I think I've been calling for themes since update 1.1 or whatever it was. For a good while I clung to the hope 20.0 was going to be the one... They never arrived... Now here we are, a brand new generation, into the firmware 20's and still nothing has changed.

Maybe update 30.0 will be the one.

Re: Nintendo Is Seeking Player Feedback On Game-Key Cards In Japan

OorWullie

@Max_the_German They will go with the cheapest option initially but if GameKey sales are much lower than anticipated, they will surely reconsider. Sega were the worst offenders. Yakuza 0 at 53gb as a GameKey release is inexcusable. But it seems that and Sonic haven't done too well in the charts. Same goes for Street Fighter 6. At almost 50gb, it needed to be on cart. A company as big as Capcom has no excuse. Especially when it's a game as popular as SF. They've probably cost it many tens of thousands of sales by going the GameKey route. Cyberpunk meanwhile will likely sell well throughout the Switch 2's life.

Re: UK Charts: Tony Hawk Puts Up A Gnarly Debut, But There's No Catching Mario Kart World

OorWullie

The publisher's who've put out GameKey releases, should have experimented by releasing a physical version alongside it for an extra tenner, to see which option is more popular. I think it's obvious the physical versions would do better but the GameKey versions would still sell ok to those wanting to save some cash. It gives consumers an option. By just limiting it to GameKey versions, they will absolutely be losing out on a lot of sales. If it's true Nintendo are only offering 64gb cards, they've got to take a lot of the blame. But that doesn't excuse Sega, especially with Yakuza 0 at 53gb. It's seems their GameKey releases haven't done too well so far.

Re: Japanese Charts: Switch 2 Storms Past 1.5 Million Units Sold

OorWullie

@Shwing While true the PS5 still has a few years left yet, its weekly numbers suggest it's lost its momentum. Its weekly numbers are fairly consistent. Certain games will offer a slight boost here or there but I think it's fair to say it won't be reaching PS3 numbers. It's at 7 million now, so another couple of million sales is probably the best it can hope for.

Re: NBA 2K26 Shoots Some Hoops On Switch 2 "This Fall"

OorWullie

I wish NBA Jam would make a comeback. It doesn't need to be a reimagining with tons of modes to warrant a full price tag, just keep it simple arcade style with better graphics, good online and a budget price. Provided it plays as good as the originals, it would surely be successful.

Re: Beat 'Em Up Classic Double Dragon Gets A Modern Revival On Switch This October

OorWullie

@Sambuc I never knew that. I can still remember playing the opening stage of Double Dragon on the Master System for the first time. It was a great port and very impressive at the time.

I have Arcade Archives Double Dragon and I find it tough to play nowadays. I actually just played it again a few weeks ago. I didn't mind it when I first bought it for Switch and played it right through to the end, spamming countless credits but I hadn't really played many beat em ups in over 20 years. Now I've got a fairly large collection of them and Double Dragon ranks among the worst.

That's not to take anything away from its significance though. It set a new standard and was the best of its kind at the time.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch 2 Controllers

OorWullie

The A button on my M30 pad is sticking. Gutted. I have not had much luck with controllers through the Switch's life , except with 8bitdo pads. I felt confident they would serve me well for years to come and said as much on here the other week. Seems I spoke too soon.

Re: Switch 2's Best-Selling eShop Games So Far

OorWullie

It will be interesting to see how well these Switch 2 Editions do over the next few years. Will BOTW/ TOTK and Mario Party Jamboree be evergreen titles throughout the Switch 2's lifespan, adding many millions onto their Switch lifetime sales? Or will their sales drop off once the Switch 2 library has filled out, with overall sales being relatively modest compared to the originals.

I won't be surprised if it's the former.

Re: Switch 2 Is Officially The "Fastest-Selling Nintendo Hardware" Ever In The US

OorWullie

If Nintendo can supply enough consoles, it will likely pass Wii U lifetime sales by the end of this year.

After the huge success of Switch, it was always going to sell well in its first year. Even without the 3D Mario and Zelda the Switch needed to ensure its success, after the Wii U years. I reckon Nintendo are keeping those for next year, which ensures the momentum never slows. Then those games will ensure strong sales into the third year. Which is when they roll out Animal.Crossing.and hope for another pandemic.
