For the first year or so after Switch released, the Eshop was enjoyable to browse. I remember reading that weekly releases were being curated, before they eventually opened up to everyone. How true that was I'm not sure but it certainly seemed to be. Browsing the Eshop was fun and I used to look forward to opening it every Thursday as the overall quality was fairly high. With terrible games like Vroom in the Night Sky standing out, to the point I can still remember its name all these years later. Nowadays, multiple games of far lower quality than Vroom are released twice weekly.
I am happy I bought this digitally when I did. Mario Galaxy looks fantastic. The image quality is very nice. It all looks so clean, with no jaggy edges or flickering lines. I go back to it every now and again. One of Nintendo's very best games, looking the best it ever has.
I was never really a fan of Sunshine and that hasn't changed. But it too is looking the best it ever has. 64 though is a disappointment, with little extra effort put into it. It should really have been updated to widescreen, 60fps and optimised for playing on modern controllers. I find it very difficult to play nowadays. Which is a shame, considering how much nostalgia I have for it. A game as important as Mario 64 deserves better. If someone.who loved the game 28 years ago struggles to play the game on a Pro controller, I can't imagine how it must feel to someome who grew up with the last 2 or 3 gens. Same goes for Goldeneye, it's a nightmare to play with a Pro.
@OctolingKing13 Glad to see some still keeping the tradition going. Most have given up. I think I've been calling for themes since update 1.1 or whatever it was. For a good while I clung to the hope 20.0 was going to be the one... They never arrived... Now here we are, a brand new generation, into the firmware 20's and still nothing has changed.
@Max_the_German They will go with the cheapest option initially but if GameKey sales are much lower than anticipated, they will surely reconsider. Sega were the worst offenders. Yakuza 0 at 53gb as a GameKey release is inexcusable. But it seems that and Sonic haven't done too well in the charts. Same goes for Street Fighter 6. At almost 50gb, it needed to be on cart. A company as big as Capcom has no excuse. Especially when it's a game as popular as SF. They've probably cost it many tens of thousands of sales by going the GameKey route. Cyberpunk meanwhile will likely sell well throughout the Switch 2's life.
The publisher's who've put out GameKey releases, should have experimented by releasing a physical version alongside it for an extra tenner, to see which option is more popular. I think it's obvious the physical versions would do better but the GameKey versions would still sell ok to those wanting to save some cash. It gives consumers an option. By just limiting it to GameKey versions, they will absolutely be losing out on a lot of sales. If it's true Nintendo are only offering 64gb cards, they've got to take a lot of the blame. But that doesn't excuse Sega, especially with Yakuza 0 at 53gb. It's seems their GameKey releases haven't done too well so far.
@Shwing While true the PS5 still has a few years left yet, its weekly numbers suggest it's lost its momentum. Its weekly numbers are fairly consistent. Certain games will offer a slight boost here or there but I think it's fair to say it won't be reaching PS3 numbers. It's at 7 million now, so another couple of million sales is probably the best it can hope for.
PS5 has only sold around 7 million between the 3 SKU's. The PS3 sold 10.7, PS4 9.7m I would say PS5 will likely finish short of that number. Sony are surely concerned with these numbers.
I wish NBA Jam would make a comeback. It doesn't need to be a reimagining with tons of modes to warrant a full price tag, just keep it simple arcade style with better graphics, good online and a budget price. Provided it plays as good as the originals, it would surely be successful.
Rayman 2 is such a great game. I never played the 64 version, I had it on Dreamcast. It's been over 20 years since I played it though. I wonder if it's as good today as I remember it being.
Basically, it's poor management that created the messy structure and it's the workers who'll be punished for it. While the management that created the mess will be rewarded for streamlining things.
@Sambuc I never knew that. I can still remember playing the opening stage of Double Dragon on the Master System for the first time. It was a great port and very impressive at the time.
I have Arcade Archives Double Dragon and I find it tough to play nowadays. I actually just played it again a few weeks ago. I didn't mind it when I first bought it for Switch and played it right through to the end, spamming countless credits but I hadn't really played many beat em ups in over 20 years. Now I've got a fairly large collection of them and Double Dragon ranks among the worst.
That's not to take anything away from its significance though. It set a new standard and was the best of its kind at the time.
@Expa0 I expect the next Smash will be a deluxe version of Ultimate. Better graphics, all past DLC, some new content and roll back net code. Would they get away with that? They probably would. And it'll be $80 as well.
Out of all the games I own, I'd say Grid Autosport and Alien Isolation are the 2 most impressive ports on Switch. And they're both by Feral Interactive. With Alien, it's hard to believe you're playing a Switch game.
@Medic_alert I had a Minidisk Walkman and a hifi that had the most amazing sound quality. I was still using my Walkman for years after everyone had moved on to MP3 players. I loved the thing.
It's time for that Final Fight remake to finally be announced. Pretty sure that's the only game from the big Capcom leak a few years ago that has yet to be announced. There was a Power Stone remake in the leak too but that may have just been the recent Fighting Collection.
The game looks absolutely superb. It's like the Odyssey team were tasked with making their biggest, most ambitious game yet.
With the Odyssey team working on this, I wonder if that means the next 3D Mario is being developed by a different team? A new direction for 3D Mario perhaps?
It's like Cyberpunk 2077 out there. A society where even a Raidoo of a truck carrying a Switch 2 Bananza has become the norm. We need a Yakuza to sort out the bad guys, 0 tolerance.
It's all about Survival, Kids. Learn to be a Street Fighter by 6 if you want to make it. If you're not FAST, you're last.
The A button on my M30 pad is sticking. Gutted. I have not had much luck with controllers through the Switch's life , except with 8bitdo pads. I felt confident they would serve me well for years to come and said as much on here the other week. Seems I spoke too soon.
It will be interesting to see how well these Switch 2 Editions do over the next few years. Will BOTW/ TOTK and Mario Party Jamboree be evergreen titles throughout the Switch 2's lifespan, adding many millions onto their Switch lifetime sales? Or will their sales drop off once the Switch 2 library has filled out, with overall sales being relatively modest compared to the originals.
I would go absolutely ballistic if I caught someone delivering my Switch 2 like that. Not a chance in hell he gets away with that. I would be out for revenge.
If Nintendo can supply enough consoles, it will likely pass Wii U lifetime sales by the end of this year.
After the huge success of Switch, it was always going to sell well in its first year. Even without the 3D Mario and Zelda the Switch needed to ensure its success, after the Wii U years. I reckon Nintendo are keeping those for next year, which ensures the momentum never slows. Then those games will ensure strong sales into the third year. Which is when they roll out Animal.Crossing.and hope for another pandemic.
I haven't played it yet, next 2 or 3 weeks hopefully. I hope it gets DLC, based on other IP. Little islands or distant lands based on other Nintendo IP. A mini Inkopolis or Hyrule, with an explorable world, its own cup and a handful of characters, would be amazing. Or perhaps a story mode that makes proper use of the world.
@FishyS I was meaning for the weekly or monthly charts. I could have worded it better.
The UK charts for example, Switch games usually do alright but with digital sales excluded, it doesn't really paint an accurate picture. I'm not sure Nintendo really cares about the UK charts though.
@JohnnyMind It will be interesting to compare GameKey sales to Eshop sales in a few months. If that data is ever released... Perhaps digital sales will be lower than expected, as some opt for the GameKey version instead. Or perhaps it'll go the other way and those who would have preferred a proper physical release, decide to just buy it from the Eshop instead and save some cash.
@Spaceman44 Many were saying the Switch wouldn't do well for a variety of reasons, from its reveal up till a few months after it launched. Many tech sites were predicting the same. Just have to go back and look at the comments under NL articles from 2017. Then the end of year sales come through and it was clear the Switch was going to be a success. And it never let up from there.
I just can't see how Switch 2 will be anything but a success. It may not sell as much as the original but it will sell enough to be regarded a success. Switch sales have dipped slightly over the last few months but they've remained strong right through its life. OLED sales were also strong. All their 1st games sell in the millions. And with Switch, they've found a formula of publishing at least 1 game a month. This will likely continue on Switch 2.
Nintendo are at the top of their game right now. The Zelda and Mario brands have never been bigger. Their movies are successful, they have a theme park. Again, I just can't see how they can fail.
@Jack_Goetz It was a terrible decision by Sega. Still, it's surprising that it's charted so low. A top quality Sonic game at launch with no Nintendo platformers to compete with it, should have been a winner. I bet a good few decided not to buy it as a matter of principle.
This was the first game I ever played. It was a Xmas morning sometime around 81 and my uncle had just got an Atari 2600. I am pretty sure the game was built in or came on a cartridge with other games. But I may be misremembering that part. Either way, Adventure blew my mind and started my love affair with gaming
@WiltonRoots I did the worst thing one can do with an RPG, took a break from it with the intentions of going back to it but that day has yet to arrive. Some things came up at the time, forcing my hand. I'll make it a goal to finish it up before I get my Switch 2 in a few weeks. Have you got a Switch 2 yet?
@speed_loafer Prior to 2023, none of the TV's I played Switch on had a YouTube app. I have it on my phone of course but I only really watch Shorts on that. I like watching YouTube on the big screen as I don't watch any normal TV or Netflix or anything like that. I have a smart TV now so it's not needed, unless I'm back in Scotland visiting my parents but for 6 years it served me well.
If the Switch version has a physical edition but is GameKey on Switch 2, it makes sense to buy it for Switch and pay for the upgrade. That means you'll get to play it earlier too, then get the benefit of a major upgrade later. Probably be cheaper this way too, especially if wait a few months for the Switch version to go on sale.
I say this as someone who was all digital on Switch. From now on, I'll be looking to save storage wherever possible. I will likely buy most 1st party games on cart.
I never played this in the arcade. I don't think I've even seen a Ridge Racer cabinet before. I did use to play it on my friends Playstation though.
This will be one of the first games I buy when I get my Switch 2. The high score leaderboards will keep me occupied for many hours. I can't wait to see what the AA2 line will bring. Hopefully they're weekly releases too.
I have the SF-30 and M-30, both superb premium-feeling controllers. The latter is an all time favourite, I use it all the time for retro and certain indie games, just not for fighting games, which is ironic because it was for fighting games that I bought it. I was sure the rolling pad would make inputs easier but I struggle to pull off a Shoryuken on demand. With the SF-30 I can pull them with ease.
And the best thing, unlike all my other Switch controllers, they lasted the generation and I expect they'll survive the Switch 2 generation as well.
@Truegamer79 I imagine the improvements will be more noticeable natively on the big screen. There was very little anti aliasing, if any, in Odyssey. Lots of flickering lines and jagged edges. It was particularly noticeable in New Donk City. It kind of bothered me. If that's been improved and it seems like it has, it'll make such a difference to how clean it all looks.
I kind of wish I hadn't played through Odyssey again a few months ago. I've just finished playing through Luigi's Mansion 3. I wondered if I should have waited as I'm sure it'll get updated at some point too. Ah well, it gives me an excuse to play them again in a couple of years.
Yes because my Pro controller that I bought in the last year or so, is drifting and I don't want to start a new gen with drift. My previous Pro packed in completely. As did my Joy-con. It's an expense I don't mind paying if I know the quality of Switch 2 controllers will be much higher than on Switch. Let's hope that's the case.
I won't be buying it immediately though. I'll make do with the Joy-con for the first few weeks or months.
@dskatter I was meaning more for storage purposes, rather than playing games from it. With hard drive support via dock, it would just be for storing games and letting you transfer them between the drive and the console and vice versa. It saves you having to archive games and redownload them and will surely be a lot quicker. With this, you could technically have your entire library downloaded and stored on the hard drive, and just have a few games on the console at any given time.
I really hope they allow external hard drive support via the dock. With quick transfer between the hard drive and the console. Even if games can't be played off the hard drive, just being able to easily manage your library in docked mode would make such a difference. You could get away with just having the one SD Express card. As it is just now, that's not going to be possible if I want to transfer my Switch library and buy a few Switch 2 games. I'll be needing to archive games within weeks, after spending 200 dollars on a 1tb SD Express card. Without hard drive support, this is going to be an annoying and expensive generation to navigate.
If only there was an extra SD card slot for our Switch 1 games, or even to store S2 games for quick transfer, it would have made such a difference. An extra tenner onto the console price would have saved us a lot of money and hassle going forward.
@Medic_alert @SillyG My biggest peeve is, there not being an extra SD card slot for my Switch 1 games. Having the 2 slots, one for Express and one for the standard cards would have made this coming gen much easier to manage. They've gave us backwards compatibility but if I want to transfer even half of my Switch library, there goes a good chunk of my brand new card that cost me £150+. And these Express cards don't seem to be easy to obtain. I'm in Thailand and I can't find one here. And even looking online, there doesn't seem to be too many options. Only a 1tb makes sense but from what I can see, it's $200 and currently unavailable.
An extra SD card slot would have added maybe $10 onto the price of the console but it would have saved us a lot of money and hassle in the long run. With the push for digital, the majority of physical releases being GameKeys and the larger file size for AAA games, it seems like they've put little thought into how we're supposed to store things. It's going to be like the Wii days of cleaning the fridge.
Hard drive support for the dock would make things much more manageable though.
@HotGoomba I know you're joking but from Sega's perspective, it would have been hard to justify sticking a 2.2gb game on a 64gb card. Nintendo are to blame for not supplying smaller cards.
I really hope Dr Mario or Luigi makes a comeback on Switch 2. Nintendo are criminals for skipping a generation. It was my 2nd most played game on Wii and Wii U. I miss it..Puyo Puyo Tetris and Tetris 99 are very good but for me,.Dr Mario Online is the best multiplayer puzzle game.
Prior to the Wii U, F1 games were always a big part of my gaming collection. I had at least one for every console. But then Nintendo consoles stopped getting them. I think F1 2009 on Wii was the last one I played. I'm not sure I care enough about F1 anymore but if the game is good, I'll give it a go.

Re: Review: Arcade Archives 2: Ridge Racer (Switch 2) - Still A Thrill, More Than 30 Years Later

Watch Welcome Tour go on to become a multi-million evergreen title, encouraging other companies to monetise instruction manuals.
Re: PSA: 8BitDo Controllers Require A Firmware Update To Work On Switch 2
I have the SF-30 and M-30, both superb premium-feeling controllers. The latter is an all time favourite, I use it all the time for retro and certain indie games, just not for fighting games, which is ironic because it was for fighting games that I bought it. I was sure the rolling pad would make inputs easier but I struggle to pull off a Shoryuken on demand. With the SF-30 I can pull them with ease.
And the best thing, unlike all my other Switch controllers, they lasted the generation and I expect they'll survive the Switch 2 generation as well.
Re: Video: Super Mario Odyssey Shines On Switch 2 In This Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison
Re: Video: Super Mario Odyssey Shines On Switch 2 In This Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison
I kind of wish I hadn't played through Odyssey again a few months ago. I've just finished playing through Luigi's Mansion 3. I wondered if I should have waited as I'm sure it'll get updated at some point too. Ah well, it gives me an excuse to play them again in a couple of years.
Re: Video: Do You Even Need A Pro Controller For The Switch 2?
Yes because my Pro controller that I bought in the last year or so, is drifting and I don't want to start a new gen with drift. My previous Pro packed in completely. As did my Joy-con. It's an expense I don't mind paying if I know the quality of Switch 2 controllers will be much higher than on Switch. Let's hope that's the case.
I won't be buying it immediately though. I'll make do with the Joy-con for the first few weeks or months.
Re: Nintendo Appears To Have Updated Mario Kart World's Switch 2 File Size
@dskatter I was meaning more for storage purposes, rather than playing games from it. With hard drive support via dock, it would just be for storing games and letting you transfer them between the drive and the console and vice versa. It saves you having to archive games and redownload them and will surely be a lot quicker. With this, you could technically have your entire library downloaded and stored on the hard drive, and just have a few games on the console at any given time.
Re: Nintendo Appears To Have Updated Mario Kart World's Switch 2 File Size
Re: Video: Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S Shows Off Nintendo Switch 2 Camera Support
@datamonkey As others have said, it's not been officially confirmed that 64gb is the only option but it looks like it is.

Re: Video: Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S Shows Off Nintendo Switch 2 Camera Support
Re: Video: Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S Shows Off Nintendo Switch 2 Camera Support
@HotGoomba I know you're joking but from Sega's perspective, it would have been hard to justify sticking a 2.2gb game on a 64gb card. Nintendo are to blame for not supplying smaller cards.
Re: Video: Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S Shows Off Nintendo Switch 2 Camera Support
I really hope Dr Mario or Luigi makes a comeback on Switch 2. Nintendo are criminals for skipping a generation. It was my 2nd most played game on Wii and Wii U. I miss it..Puyo Puyo Tetris and Tetris 99 are very good but for me,.Dr Mario Online is the best multiplayer puzzle game.
Re: Codemasters Says It Will Look At Switch 2 And See If It's A "Good Fit" For F1 Games
