Re: Video: Do You Even Need A Pro Controller For The Switch 2?

OorWullie

Yes because my Pro controller that I bought in the last year or so, is drifting and I don't want to start a new gen with drift. My previous Pro packed in completely. As did my Joy-con. It's an expense I don't mind paying if I know the quality of Switch 2 controllers will be much higher than on Switch. Let's hope that's the case.

I won't be buying it immediately though. I'll make do with the Joy-con for the first few weeks or months.

Re: Nintendo Appears To Have Updated Mario Kart World's Switch 2 File Size

OorWullie

@dskatter I was meaning more for storage purposes, rather than playing games from it. With hard drive support via dock, it would just be for storing games and letting you transfer them between the drive and the console and vice versa. It saves you having to archive games and redownload them and will surely be a lot quicker. With this, you could technically have your entire library downloaded and stored on the hard drive, and just have a few games on the console at any given time.

Re: Nintendo Appears To Have Updated Mario Kart World's Switch 2 File Size

OorWullie

I really hope they allow external hard drive support via the dock. With quick transfer between the hard drive and the console. Even if games can't be played off the hard drive, just being able to easily manage your library in docked mode would make such a difference. You could get away with just having the one SD Express card. As it is just now, that's not going to be possible if I want to transfer my Switch library and buy a few Switch 2 games. I'll be needing to archive games within weeks, after spending 200 dollars on a 1tb SD Express card. Without hard drive support, this is going to be an annoying and expensive generation to navigate.

If only there was an extra SD card slot for our Switch 1 games, or even to store S2 games for quick transfer, it would have made such a difference. An extra tenner onto the console price would have saved us a lot of money and hassle going forward.

Re: Video: Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S Shows Off Nintendo Switch 2 Camera Support

OorWullie

@Medic_alert @SillyG My biggest peeve is, there not being an extra SD card slot for my Switch 1 games. Having the 2 slots, one for Express and one for the standard cards would have made this coming gen much easier to manage. They've gave us backwards compatibility but if I want to transfer even half of my Switch library, there goes a good chunk of my brand new card that cost me £150+. And these Express cards don't seem to be easy to obtain. I'm in Thailand and I can't find one here. And even looking online, there doesn't seem to be too many options. Only a 1tb makes sense but from what I can see, it's $200 and currently unavailable.

An extra SD card slot would have added maybe $10 onto the price of the console but it would have saved us a lot of money and hassle in the long run. With the push for digital, the majority of physical releases being GameKeys and the larger file size for AAA games, it seems like they've put little thought into how we're supposed to store things. It's going to be like the Wii days of cleaning the fridge.

Hard drive support for the dock would make things much more manageable though.

Re: Nintendo Explains Why Mario Kart World Isn't Called 'Mario Kart 9'

OorWullie

@calbeau I'm excited for it too. Open world will probably be the norm for the series going forward.

I was watching footage of the new Sonic Racing game and being just a standard track based racer, it all looked a bit boring to me. I'd normally be excited for this new Sonic racer as I loved Transformed and it looks to be pretty decent but it seems Mario Kart World has taken what a Kart racer should be to the next level. I haven't even played MKW yet and already my standards have increased.

Re: Feature: The Long & Rainbow Road To 'Mario Kart World' - Part 2

OorWullie

I had 64 and Double Dash but it wasn't until MK Wii that I really got into Mario Kart. It was my first real online multiplayer game and I played that and Dr Mario online for hundreds of hours. I'm not sure I'd rate it above 8 but t's still the MK I've spent the most time playing and I can't see that changing. I know I'm going to love MK World but I think the days of me playing 1 game for 1000 hours are gone.

Re: "It's Very Powerful" - Borderlands 4 Dev Hypes Up The "Perfect" Switch 2

OorWullie

@MamaSymphonia Yep, the first in 13 years. And that's the only one we've had in the 23 years, since the GameCube launched. But even that didn't really feel too special as HD consoles had been around for so long. It was more of a case of, at last Nintendo have caught up. With Switch 2, it's a proper leap and it feels modern.

Growing up in the 80's and 90's, generational leaps came around so often. They're what keeps gaming exciting. If someone told me when I bought my GameCube in 2002 "enjoy it, you'll only be getting one more before 2025", I would never have believed them.

To say I'm excited for Switch 2 is an understatement.

Re: Hideki Kamiya Intended To Continue Bayonetta With Another Trilogy

OorWullie

I absolutely loved Bayonetta 2 but I haven't got round to 3 yet. I've read quite a few folk saying it is the worst in the series and the graphics are rough. It kind of put me off. Yet NL gave it a 10/10 and I usually agree with PJ's reviews.

Hopefully it gets a Switch 2 Edition. Or even a free upgrade. I might still give it a chance.

Re: Feature: The Long & Rainbow Road To 'Mario Kart World', From SNES To Switch 2

OorWullie

The long and Rainbow road
That leads to death more
The ground has disappeared
I've seen that shell before
It always sends me here
Sends me off the floor

Many times I've been in front
Then a Blue Shell was fired
Only God, can ever know
The many ways I've died

And still they choose that track,
Oh the long Rainbow road
You've left me cursing here
A long, long time I'm bored
Don't have me racing here
Leads me to death more

Re: Video: Nintendo Demonstrates How To Sync Original Joy-Con With Switch 2

OorWullie

My Joy-con had 3 separate issues (right JC only recognised when detached, wouldn't hold charge, drift) and packed in completely after 2 years of casual use. And those were replacement ones after the Joy-con that came with my Switch didn't work out the box. My Pro controller, a 2017 original model with the crappy dpad, drifted, sticks creaked, then packed in completely around 2023. My Splatoon 2 Pro with a better Dpad, has started to drift to the right in the last few days. Its sticks creak too.

I have been gaming since the 2600, and Switch is the first console I've had where its controllers pack in on me. And just to add to it, my Retrobit Saturn pad packed in after a few hours. That's not Nintendo's fault though.

I really hope Switch 2 controllers are much higher quality. Especially with the prices we're paying for them.

Re: Xbox Branded Handheld Photos Leak, And It's Not Quite As Slick As The Switch 2

OorWullie

A powerful Gamepass handheld will certainly have an audience. It will likely be pricey but once you have bought the console and a subscription, you're good to go. For many, a Gamepass sub is all you need. It's the best value in gaming by a considerable distance.

That said, the audience for a handheld like this is probably well below 30 million. It certainly won't be competing with Switch 2. But it will sell well enough to justify its existence.

Re: Rumour: Ubisoft Might Already Be Teasing More Switch 2 Games

OorWullie

As much as I loved Rayman 2 and Sands of Time, I have never been a fan of Ubisoft. Something about their games I just don't like. If they never released a single Switch 2 game, they wouldn't be missed. I was tempted by Prince of Persia and was willing to give it a go but then I read what they did to the developer that made the game and now I dislike them even more than I already did.

Re: Grand Theft Auto 6 Has Been Delayed And Will Now Launch In May 2026

OorWullie

@Cakefish I think they'll confirm its release date in June. Switch 2 releases a week or 2 before what would be E3 time. I imagine there will be a huge Switch 2 Direct around the 3rd week in June and we'll get the MP4 date then. My money is on September.

A brand new generation of console releasing just before what is usually the biggest Direct of the year, should make this Direct one of the best ever.

Re: Hollow Knight: Silksong Will Be Playable At An Australian Museum In September

OorWullie

@-wc- I bought Hollow Knight at release and played it for a good few hours. It wasn't clicking with me at all. I got to a point that just frustrated me, as I kept dying and the checkpoint was a fair bit away. So I gave up. Never touched it again for a year. Then started over again. And for the next two or three weeks, it was all I played. I was obsessed. Played it right through to the end. It's one of the greatest games I've ever played.

I've read a fair few others having a similar experience to me. So it's definitely worth giving it another go. Once you get past a certain point and gain some new abilities, the game really takes off.

Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 20.0.0 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

OorWullie

This part started so well, then went downhill from there.

"For users that will lose access to their Nintendo Switch before receiving their Nintendo Switch 2, there is an option to upload system transfer data to a dedicated server which can then be retrieved on their Nintendo Switch 2. After you upload your system transfer data to the dedicated server, the Nintendo Switch system will be initialized to factory settings, so only perform this transfer if you’ll be able to complete the transfer on Nintendo Switch 2.

If you want to continue using your Nintendo Switch until you have a Nintendo Switch 2, we recommend completing the system transfer using local communication after you have acquired a Nintendo Switch 2 system."

I don't understand that last paragraph. If I want to use my Switch until I get a Switch 2, I should wait until I have acquired a Switch 2?

Re: Donkey Kong Bananza Might Be Teasing The Return Of An Old Friend

OorWullie

@Suketoudara That is one tough looking ape. I hadn't seen him before.

I asked AI what the biggest Nintendo character is and it said The Imprisoned from Skyward Sword. Claiming it to be the size of a mountain and far bigger than this unknown ape. But I'm not so sure about that. The ape appears bigger to me.

Re: Analyst Predicts Record-Breaking Launch Numbers For Switch 2

OorWullie

I can't see this being anything but a huge success.
Year 1 will likely smash records,.provided they can keep up with demand. (Switch is the current record holder, with 17.79 million). Mario Kart will make sure of that. Then Nintendo will roll out the big guns in year 2, Zelda and 3D Mario, and the momentum for Switch 2 will be hard to sfop for the first few years of its life.

I predict it will pass Wii U lifetime sales in the first 9 months and close to 20m by the end of year.1. And by the end of its life, will be somewhere between Wii and Switch.
