Re: Feature: 27 GameCube Games We'd Love To See On Nintendo Switch 2 NSO

OorWullie

One of my friends used to go on about a game called Geist. I never played it but he loved it.

I absolutely loved Eternal Darkness and Timesplitters 2, so they'd be my top picks. But that's a strong list. One game I'd love to come but is extremely unlikely to happen, Fight Night Round 2. Best boxing game I've played by far.

Hopefully the GameCube app grows to at least a couple of dozen games.

Re: Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Now Boasts 300 Playable Titles

OorWullie

I have been in a family group with other NL members for almost 4 years now, so for what I get for just £7 a year, I can't complain. But if if was paying for a single EP membership, I'm not sure I'd think the Expansion Pack was worth it. Although with GameCube games and free NS2 editions of Zelda, it's a different story.

The GBA games are great but I find many of the N64 games hard to play with a Pro. That might change once we can edit the controls though. It's stupid that isn't already an option, as the default settings on many games are not ideal. The Octo Expansion is great but I already owned it. Free MK8D DLC should be great but I honestly wish it didn't exist. I dont like it, I feel it cheapens the MK8D experience. The Megadrive games are great but I already had most of them on a collection. I think there's only been 2 or 3 updates since. Although we did get 3 games added recently, so hopefully that's a good sign. There's so much more they could do with it though, like convince EA to put the Strike games on there. Or how about smaller gems like Wiz n Liz.

But what I hope for most from the Expansion Pack is, that more non-Nintendo consoles are added. Starting with Mega CD. Many of its best games have been played by so few. Games like Road Avenger, Silpheed, Robo Aleste and Thunderhawk deserve more than being stuck on ancient unsuccessful hardware or on some mini console hardly anyone owns. TG16 should be on NSO too. I loved discovering games from that console on the Wii Shop. Or how about Commodore 64 and Amiga games..Cannon Fodder, Monkey Island, Lemmings, Megalomania in mouse mode would be amazing. So much potential

Edit - and how can I forget the Master System. An amazing console that in my opinion, was better than the NES..At least graphically anyway. It was the console I owned and whenever I swapped it with my friend's NES for a few days, I was always happy to get it back. I haven't played many of its games for over 30 years.

I never meant to write so much.

Re: "Stay Tuned" For Next Mainline Mario, Says Nintendo's Bowser

OorWullie

There's no way they're going to keep us waiting 3 or 4 years for a new 3D Mario. Perhaps they've got a different team working on it and the next 3D Mario will be something completely different. 8 years is a long time to be working on just DKB though. Perhaps they have been working on that and a 3D Mario at the same time. There's a rumour Retro have been working on Prime 5 alongside 4. They've also had plenty of time. And with TOTK using the same world as BOTW, the Zelda team has likely been working on the next Zelda since before TOTK was even released.

Nintendo are likely well prepared for this gen. With how well the Switch was selling, they didn't need to give us another 3D Mario or new Mario Kart. They got away with a lot of Wii U ports and remasters and not as many brand new experiences as past Nintendo consoles offered.

Re: Video: Nintendo Today Gives Us Another Look At SoulCalibur II For Switch 2 Online

OorWullie

One of the last games to truly wow me was the original Soul Calibur on Dreamcast. For the first time since Final Fight on the the Mega CD, I felt like I had a proper arcade game at home. A graphical powerhouse in its day that still looks and plays great today.

I never played too much of SC2 but I'll be all over this. I just wish online play wasn't limited to beteeen friends.

Re: Feature: The Switch 2 Sticks Might Not Be Hall Effect, But They Feel Fantastic

OorWullie

Who needs Hal Effect when you've got Oiled Spoon on Plastic Bottle Effect.

I will buy the Pro 2 eventually but I think I'll be content with the Joy-con and Switch Pro for a few months. I'd rather spend the money on a game. The Pro I use just now, the Splatoon themed one, I just bought last year, after my original packed in.

I'm saying that but I know the temptation will be there from the start. We shall see if will resist buying it.

Re: Nintendo Confirms Duration For Tomorrow's Mario Kart World Direct

OorWullie

I don't think they've showed much of the online side of things. I imagine that is going to be the main focus of the game. I hope those extra crafts that can be taken control of, like the hovercraft and truck and possibly helicopter and UFO, hint to a story mode. Although I suspect they're part of a multiplayer mode they haven't revealed yet.

What I hope most for is, a few tracks with proper sea and air racing. As well as another 1 or 2 online modes that I'll want to play just as much as the main mode. Knockout Cup is a fantastic addition. Another mode or 2 of similar calibre and this game will be next level.

Re: EA Reveals Price For Split Fiction On Switch 2

OorWullie

@Cakefish So say I bought this game for Switch 2, my mate on his Series X could play together with me, without owning the game?

It's unlikely I'll ever play this game but if that's possible for some other games, that is very cool indeed.

Re: Opinion: It's Been 20 Years Since I Was This Excited For A Mario Kart

OorWullie

@Oldstalk I think if it had been priced at £70/ €80 the reaction wouldn't have been so negative. £75/ €90 quite a jump from TOTK's £60/ €70. The US price is about right, they've only had a $10 increase.

For me, I'm not too bothered. DK Bananza's price seems like it'll be the norm. And since I buy mostly digital, I'll get it even cheaper. I will likely get hundreds of hours out of the game, so even if I had to pay £75 for it, I know it'll be worth it.

Re: Opinion: It's Been 20 Years Since I Was This Excited For A Mario Kart

OorWullie

Me and my mates always chose Diddy Kong Racing over MK64. It was that and Goldeneye for our 4 player sessions. MK64 was my first Mario Kart but I don't really have fond memories of it. I didnt think too much of Double Dash either. It was MKWii when the series clicked for me. It was the first game I really got into online gaming. And prior to Splatoon, it was my most played game of all time, by far. I liked the time trials mode in the Mario Kart TV app better than MK8's. Spent a lot of hours on that too. Hardly touched time trials on MK8D or Deluxe.

Re: PS5 Digital Edition Now More Expensive Than Switch 2 In UK & Europe

OorWullie

I have never owned a Sony console but I usually keep an eye on what they're up to. And as an outside observer, it seems to me that Sony releases very few brand new games anymore. If I ever was to buy one of the other consoles, it would be an Xbox just for Gamepass, where in the past I'd have leaned towards Playstation because of the big 1st party exclusives. There doesn't seem to be too many of those anymore though.

Re: Talking Point: Does Switch 2 Have Nintendo's Best Launch Line-Up Ever?

OorWullie

If I manage to get a Switch 2 at launch, hopefully the bundle, I plan to buy Yakuza 0, Ridge Racer and maybe FAST Fusion depending on reviews. And if I get carried away, one of Cyberpunk or Street Fighter 6. To have a brand new Mario Kart, a definitive port of the best Yakuza , a new generation of Arcade Archives now with online multiplayer and a futurustic Shinen racer that pushes the console , on the first day with my new console, is as good as it gets. Add on the upgraded Zelda games, GameCube games looking close to remasters on NSO app and the excitement of seeing your Switch library transferring over to a new powerful console, and it will be a day one to remember.

As someone who has only had Nintendo consoles since the GameCube, I've only really experienced one sizable generational leap in over 20 years. Wii fo Wii U. And even that wasn't too impressive as HD games been around for years With Switch 2, we'll have a Nintendo consoles that feels modern, for the first time since GC. 1st party games are going look seriously impressive. Imagine what Luigi's Mansion 4 going to look like with 4K HDR 60fps.

Re: Switch 2 Game-Key Cards Aren't Tied To Nintendo Accounts

OorWullie

I consider myself old school but I've been happy to embrace the digital age with gaming. I much prefer having the game on my console, to having to switch game carts.
On Wii, I had more VC and Wii Shop games than physical games. On Wii U, 90% of my collection was digital and on Switch, I own 6, physical games from a collection of hundreds.

I can't see that changing much on Switch 2 but I'll likely still buy a few physical games with a large file size, to save space. Especially ones that contain the full game on cart, like Cyberpunk. I bought The Witcher 3 physical for this reason.

Talking of The Witcher 3. I hope that gets a Switch 2 upgrades. I'd love to play through it again.

Re: New Ridge Racer & Unreleased Retro Studios Project Crop Up In Leaked Switch Dev Kit

OorWullie

Whatever Retro were working on in the 6 years between Tropical Freeze and MP4, surely has to be pretty far along in development. Their only output in those years was Funky Kong. Why would Nintendo have such a quality developer out of action for so long?

I would say they were working on something big for Switch and that's why they weren't given Metroid Prime 4 originally. But whatever it was, was put on hold for a few years to work on MP4. Now with that complete, they can now go back and finish up their game and upgrade it for Switch 2. If that's the case, we hopefully won't be waiting years for their next game.

Re: 'Switch 2 Editions' Are Supposedly A Switch Game Card And Download Code For The Upgrade Pack

OorWullie

@YoshiTails It possibly will work out cheaper. What a strange situation.

I actually like how the Switch 2 case looks. The purple against the Nintendo red looks very nice. If it's like MKW and DKB's case, it should wrap all the way round too. I imagine the inside of the box is red. A little red cart with purple art would look very nice . But it seems for Switch 2 Editions the aesthetic will be spoiled with a standard Switch card.

Re: Community: Which Switch 2 Games Are You Wishlisting?

OorWullie

I was watching a Street Fighter 6 comparison video, with NS2 and PS4/5... And the Switch 2 version is so close to the PS5 version. Image quality looks almost the same. The only real difference I noticed was NS2 had the odd NPC or background detail missing. But other than that, it's looks very current gen.

I continue to be surprised by just how powerful the console is. I did not expect this at all.
