I hope with Switch 2, they make it possible to play NSO games online with randoms. They could promote 2 or 3 different games every month, so it will be easy to find opponents. Or even if it's just always available for select NSO games like Super Mario Kart and Goldeneye.
@Dee123 It's true that it's not a huge seller but Dread did pretty well and I imagine having a Switch 2 Edition of MP4 at launch will ensure it becomes the best selling game in the series. We already know there will be Switch 2 Editions of some Switch games. Surely MP4 will be one of them.
After its initial reveal for Wii U, it became my most anticipated game. I absolutely loved the original on Wii but knew its world would be so much better to explore in HD. XCX looked incredible to me, exactly what I wished Chronicles looked like. I could not wait to play it. And when I finally did, I didn't enjoy it. I spent a lot of hours with it, gave up, started over again a while later and spent many more hours with it. But it never did click with me. It was such a disappointment to me that it put me off the series to the point I haven't bought any of the sequels. I'm sure I could get back into the series with XC3 or the remastered original but XCX was a sore point for me.
I just hope the console offers a sizeable jump in graphics power. What they showed us of the new Mario Kart has me a little worried that won't be the case.
I think the console's launch year is going to resemble the Switch launch. As in it'll be front loaded with a fair few big titles. 3D Mario, MK9, MP4, Splatoon 4, a new IP like Astral Chain and either a Zelda remaster or perhaps, just perhaps, a brand new Zelda.
@gazamataz A Sega Arcade Racing Collection has been one of my most desired games since the Switch launched. Almost everything I wanted for the console eventually arrived, except for that.
Gradius Origins was the highlight for me. I already own Gradius 1 and 2 and Salamander on Konami Arcade Classics but have never played Gradius 3 and Salamander 2. If this was the complete collection, I'd be tempted because they're getting the ShotTriggers treatment but including a brand new M2 developed Salamander takes this collection to the next level. I love when they make a brand new shmup sequel. GG Aleste 3 is SUPERB! They're working on 2 other Aleste games as well, Aleste Branch and Zaleste. Just learned about Zaleste 2 minutes ago.
And the new Night Striker too.
Hopefully the Chinese can convince Ubisoft to just concentrate on making great single player games like they used to, and drop all the nonsense that's become a part of modern western games.
MP4 looks superb, as expected. But the highlight for me was Gradius Origins M2 ShotTriggers with Salamander 3. I didn't notice it was by M2 until I watched it back and was a little underwhelmed at the collection as I have most of these on the Arcade Collection. But seeing a brand new Salamander then realising it's by M2 and part of the ShotTriggers series, with all the bells and whistles, makes this one my most anticipated games.
I'll be buying this for sure. There was a point in time where I thought Arkanoid on the Speccy was the greatest game ever made. The closest I have to it on Switch is Gunbarich by Psyko, which is good but it can be annoying too.
@timp29 I'm kind of hoping MP4 remains a Switch 1 exclusive and they save the Switch 2 version for a year or 2. It lets the Switch version shine for a while.
@Mana_Knight The 3D effect was super impressive at the time. As a Sega kid, this was one of the early SNES games that I used to look at the box with envy. I think I only had World Cup Italia 90 back then, and it was terrible. I still loved it though. I never actually played Super Soccer till NSO. It's not great but it's not bad either, C+ is fair. I would have loved it back in the day.
Talking about it makes me want to play it. Going to play a few games.
I have the SF30 and M30 from 8BitDo and they are top quality controllers. They feel like pads that will last for many years, so hopefully they'll continue to serve me well through the Switch 2's life.
I wish they would give us a Strike Collection. The same games but with nicer graphics and some QOL. Even if it's just the 16bit games remastered, it would be an amazing collection. Imagine what M2 could do with the Strike games.
I used to love EA back in the day. They had so many great games. It's sad what they've become.
@OrtadragoonX There is a modern Atari VCS . It's been around for a few years now. It has all the classic Atari games but it can run some modern indie games too.
@UmbreonsPapa @nocdaes There might not be much they can do with the base game but the online side of things definitely could be better. If they can make competitive online play, a solid and smooth experience it takes the game to another level.
@masterLEON I was hoping Night Striker Gear would come with the arcade and maybe Playstation versions, since it seems to be part of the ShotTriggers series. I don't think any game in the series is just a standalone title. But looking at its Steam listing, it seems like this will be. I had forgotten about Operation Night Striker till I read your comment there. So that probably rules out any chance of it being included with Gear.
I was thinking, Operation Night Striker collection would be fun to play with mouse controls on Switch 2, especially with rumble. Not sure if it's coming to Switch 2 but it'll still be playable. So maybe they'll add mouse controls to the collection. Maybe to the new game too.
@MontyCircus It says M2 ShotTriggers at the end of the trailer. So good chance this won't just be a standalone game. M2 made a brand new game for the Aleste Collection, and that came with 4 older games too. Night Striker doesn't have any sequels, so perhaps they'll include the arcade and Playstation versions. I think they're both different enough from each other, at least graphically, to be worth having.
Edit - Looking at its Steam page, it seems it is just a standalone title. That's a shame. Never mind, still looking forward to it. The more official sequels to shmup classics they make, the better.
@-wc- Yeah it's a very well made collection. Your comment has made me want to play it again. I think I will. Love Blackthorne. It's like Flashback but better.
@AmplifyMJ It's a really great game. I played it the other day and ended up playing the first 3 worlds. I first played it years ago but not all the way through. It's a shame it doesn't have the Super Gameboy version though. Maybe in future they'll add it.
@FatWormBlowsASparky That's funny. It's something I think about when I see these retro reviews. I've been posting on here since 2008. So there's a good chance I'll be found contradicting myself here or there.
This looks very good. A little bit Inside and Little Nightmares, with a very unique theme. It would be great to see Konami releasing a 9/10 quality game with a brand new new IP.
Inside is an all time favourite for me. Definitely one of my top 10 Switch games. I've played through it twice and got all the collectables. Limbo was great too. Tempted to give Limbo a 2nd play though.
Both Shinobi and Sonic Racing look very good. With Sonic Generations, the Yakuza Pirate game and Project Century (which looks superb), Sega seem to be levelling up. If the new Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi turn out well, I might even say "SEGA are BACK".
@Zeebor15 GTAV was the 15th best selling game in the US last year. Minecraft 16th. So it's not just Europe. Every week thousands of new consoles are being sold. And GTAV or Minecraft will be the first games they buy for their new console.
@nessisonett Agreed, it was a huge backwards step. Imagine the next Smash Bros only features a small roster of Mushroom Kingdom characters. There would be uproar and rightly so.
I was just about to moan about them only adding the NES port of Operation Wolf, then I saw it contains the arcade version too. I'll likely buy it. I had Operation Wolf on the Speccy and I vaguely remember playing Operation Thunderbolt in the arcade. Never played Night Strikers or Space Gun though. Not sure I've even heard of Space Gun.
I will be buying this for sure. I had no idea it was coming to Switch. Funnily enough, just this morning, I saw a post of some guy's physical shmup collection and I spotted Under Defeat among the 50 or so games. Weird that.
For me, Castle theme is the finest piece of video game music ever created. My nostalgia for it only goes back to the Wii era too, when I finally played SMW for the first time on VC. Looking forward to SMB2 and 3 being added. Especially 2. I'm not a huge fan of the game but the music is great.
I wonder what the chances are of them ever adding music from other publishers? The original Sonic games, Phantasy Star, Doom... The fact it's called Nintendo Music makes me think it will be limited to only Nintendo music but you never know.
@AmplifyMJ I actually bought this on Steam a couple of years back and requested a refund after playing it for an hour. I couldn't get into it, too fast. it's very highly rated though.
@sunspotty If Gamepass was on Switch 2, the only games I would likely buy would be Nintendo games. It would be a Nintendo and Gamepass machine... You're right, it is unlikely to be on there.
@Chlocean A couple of my mates are Xbox gamers and they have a snobby attitude towards gyro controls. They still link it to Wii waggle. Which is frankly silly. "If it was better than standard controls, Xbox would have it." is their attitude.
I loved Astral Chain. A sequel would be nice to have but so would another original exclusive from Platinum.
The new Ninja Gaiden game looks absolutely superb. Platinum involved in that as well. I hope that comes to Switch 2. Same goes for the remaster of NG2. I'd be all over that.
The Joy-con will likely have haptic feedback similar to the Dualsense, or at least an improvement on HD Rumble. So that will be something that sets it apart from a standard gaming mouse.
I reckon there's going to be a sizzle reel of Xbox games in the Switch 2 Direct. With quite a few of their major games coming in launch year.
With the games already rumoured to be coming, like Halo MCC, Flight Simulator and Fallout, and the others under their belt like Doom, Diablo and COD, Microsoft could end up being the best 3rd party on Switch 2. That would be mad.
