Re: Okami Sequel Studio Looking Forward To Sharing "More Exciting News" ASAP

OorWullie

Let's hope it releases on Switch 2 on the same day as other consoles. With how well Switch has done and Xbox becoming less relevant at retail, hopefully the days of Nintendo consoles having to wait months or years for a port of major releases , will be over. If publishers can have their games playable on Series S at launch, they can have them ready for Switch 2.

Re: Don't Expect Any More Miniature Consoles From Sega

OorWullie

Just release your old non-Megadrive games for Pete's sake. Why are none of the Daytona, Sega Rally or Virtua Fighter games on Switch with online? Sega Ages Virtua Racing and Outrun were so good, why was it not expanded further to other arcade classics, instead of giving us 2 Columns games and Sonic 1 and 2? Imagine what M2 could do with Outrun Coast 2 Coast or Power Drift. I never owned a 360.but my mate did and he had loads of Sega games, including Sega Rally and Daytona. These could have been touched up and released as budget Switch Eshop games and would surely have served Sega well...

Hopefully this new wave of retro sequels is a sign of things to come. But it doesn't change the fact they need to do more with their abundance of retro titles.

@Serpenterror It most likely will. All the Live Wire games I have lets you rotate the screen. And going by the border and menu style, this seems to come in the same wrapper as those other games. They have quite a lot of options for tinkering with the display. And have more border art than I've ever seen in a game.

The Live Wire ports are all very good. The price is a bit of a shocker though. $35? Their other 4 games all cost $20. I think they've now been delisted from the Eshop though. I wonder if that's anything to do with this one costing almost twice the price.

@WiltonRoots I think I'm nearing the end of DQXI. I've done all the side quests and toppled all the bosses except for Calasmos. And I'm close to beating Durstan's third trial in 50 turns, just need to shave off a few moves 56 turns is my best so far... Other than the final Wheel of Harma trial, which I'm struggling with, gaining some gear and forging the Supreme Sword of Light, I think that's pretty much all there is to do. I'm at level 80 now. What level were you when you took Calasmos on?

Re: Your 'Nintendo Switch Year In Review 2024' Stats Are Available Now

OorWullie

I somehow played 106 games this year. Half of those are probably NSO games though, that I played for under an hour. I racked up 580 hours with almost half that on Alien Isolation and Dragon Quest XI. And 60 hours on the Doom 1&2 collection.

For my game of the year, it's a tough one. Both Alien and DQXI are all time greats for me. I'm leaning towards DQ but that's because I'm playing it just now. But AI was such a unique experience , that I think I have to go for that.

Still playing Dragon Quest XI after foolishly thinking I'd completed the game. I wasn't even remotely close to finishing it. I've been zooming all over the map doing side quests and getting my ass handed to me by hard level enemies. Some of the bosses create such funny moments, that I don't mind getting slaughtered by them. Such as the Scottish monster on the Other Side that brings out the disco lights and gets all your characters dancing. I don't think I'm too far off being able to take them down though. A few more levels (currently level 66) and they should start to fall. I've already got a load of 5 star equipment. Just need to get stronger.

Re: Rumour: 'Switch 2' May Support Samsung's Upcoming MicroSD Cards For Higher Transfer Speeds

The Switch 2 rumour mill has been a little boring up to now. For around a year prior to the Switch reveal, almost every week brought new rumours. Most turned out not to be true but it was a fun time. Who can forget this monstrosity.

Untitled

Or remember when Nintendolife backed up the Eurogame article that revealed the NX would be a hybrid console with detachable controllers and the majority called BS. But if true, Nintendo were doomed.

With Switch 2 however, the best leak we've had is a pic of a device that looks exactly like a Switch but with a USB port and magnetic rails.
Perhaps the rumour mill will ramp up once January arrives.

@Rainz Just remembered that I forgot to get back to you.... I always had problems getting into turn based RPG's too. Sega Ages Phantasy Star was the one that converted me to the genre. If any game is to convert you , Dragon Quest XI would surely be the one. Other than one area , there are no random encounters. Which for me, is one of the most annoying things about JRPG's. Enemies can easily be avoided when you just want to explore. And battles can be sped up and set to auto. I only set it to manual when it's a boss character. The game is masterpiece that just keeps getting better the more you progress. I can't recommend it enough.

Got myself some Monster Runtz and Lemon Haze for the weekend.

I have played so much Dragon Quest XI this past week, I'm actually embarrassed to say how many hours I played it for. But last night, I defeated Mordagon and light has returned to Erdrea. I have actually completed a JRPG! Which for me, is such a rare feat, that it's only happened once before. SEGA AGES Phantasy Star being the other.

Only to learn that no, I have not completed it, there is an Act 2. And I could not be happier. I didn't want it to end.

Last week, I said it's assured a place in my Switch top 10. Now, I think it could be one of the best games I've ever played.

For my next game, it's going to be another from the backlog. Either Valkyrie Chronicles, Bioshock or Hyper Light Drifter

I have doubled my Dragon Quest XI S play time since last weekend's article. I'm around 45 hours in now and my opinion has not changed, the game is SUPERB! In fact, I think I love it even more now than I did last weekend. There's been a major twist that I did not see coming, and many memorable moments on top..I have no idea how far into my adventure I am.. I would guess I'm past the half way mark. Or maybe I'm approaching the final stretch. Or maybe I am nowhere close. However long I've got left, the game is already assured a place in my top 10 Switch games. By the end, it may even make it into my top 5.

I have Reboot and Fantasy. Great games. But my enjoyment of Reboot is hampered because there's no auto fire option for the X68000 version. The developers actually talked about adding auto fire before the game was released... but they somehow forgot. Well actually it does let you use the 'Arrange' mode controls on the original, which has auto fire... But then you can't throw your fairies, which is one of your special moves. So it's not really an option to play this way.

For the last few days, I have been playing Dragon Quest XI S, which has been sat in my backlog for too long. After an absolutely monster session the other night, I'm already 22 hours in and just made it out into the open ocean. I am not a big JRPG guy and only really started playing turn based RPG's on Switch. Of the few I've played , SEGA Ages Phantasy Star has been my favourite ...until now.

This game is absolutely SUPERB! I love everything about it. From the art style, to the soundtrack, story, combat, characters, enemies and exploration to the way it all feels to play. I even love forging. Everything is just top tier... My only bad experience in the game so far came in the casino. I lost a lot of money without a solitary win...

I'm not sure if I'm even a third of the way through the game but unless things go downhill from here, I already know I'm playing one of my top ten Switch games.

@WiltonRoots I have been playing DQXI for the past few days and I'm around 22 hours in. I just made it to the open ocean... I'm in love with this game.. Everything about it is just superb. Like you, I'm not a huge JRPG fan, SEGA Ages Phantasy Star is probably my favourite from the ones I've played..This is just another level though. The best JRPG I've played for sure... I just had a monster session there. I had to force myself to stop playing.
