Microids are a poor developer. I don't think I have ever bought any of their games, but I know to steer clear of them. 40 years of mediocrity. How have they survived so long?
Edir, I have bought one of their games actually.. Flashback on Switch. I had the original on Megadrive too but that was Delphine/ US Gold.
I often read praise for Phil Spencer but it seems to me, Xbox' decline has all come about on his watch. And Gamepass, as great value as it is for gamers, has probably had more of a negative effect on the industry, than a positive one.
£60 for this in the UK. What a rip off. Skywalker Saga launched at £50. I haven't played it but I'm pretty sure it offers a whole lot more content than this. This looks more like a £30.budget spin off.
@AmplifyMJ Thanks pal. We're the OG gamers for sure. I'm 6 months older than Space Invaders 😅 And my earliest memory is seeing Adventure on my uncle's new 2600 on Xmas day 1980 or 81. Those moving pixels blew my mind.
As I clicked on the article, I predicted the score would be 9/9/9/8. So close.
I still have DQ XI in my backlog. I've never played a DQ game but from what I've seen of XI S,I know I'll love it. For some reason though, I've been saving it for the right time. Feeling happy that I've got a special game to savour for when the time is right. I'm not sure when that right time is supposed to be though or if it'll ever arrive unless I take action. I am pretty sure I bought the game when I was 44.and yesterday I turned 47 so perhaps now is the right time. Today is as good a day as any.
Very few tunes trigger as much nostalgia as the Wii Shop music. I was 30 when the Wii released so it's not as if I was a kid..But something about browsing for VC games with that music playing was special.
The app can be really slow to open at times. If I force close it and open it again, it opens fairly quickly... Anyone else having this issue?
I have been playing Metro 2033 for the last week or so and I don't like it. I didn't enjoy the opening couple of chapters at all but persisted and started to enjoy it somewhat but now I'm back to not enjoying it again. I think I'm going to drop it and move on to something else. Life's too short.
I can't believe they launched it with Yoshi's Island but not Super Mario World. What was the thinking behind that? I love Yoshi's Island soundtrack, don't get me wrong. Particularly the 'Goal' tune. But for me, Mario World is peak Mario music and the Castle track is one of the greatest video game tune ever created.
If it has backwards compatibility, does that mean the Eshop will likely carry over too? On the PS5 and XSX, can you access the stores from the previous consoles?
@JDCII My hopes for that are high too. I don't have any of the other consoles but I know I would appreciate my games getting a boost , particularly 1st party games.
@NinChocolate It is a strange thing to say after the enormous success of the Switch.
@JayJ I'm the same. I try to get into them but I end up stuck or just losing interest. Into the Breach was one of those games for me. I love Advance Wars however and completed both GBA games on Wii U VC.
@-wc- I live in very hot country, I'm sure that's played it's part in my Switch ending up in the state it's in. It seems the warping has come from the battery swelling. Which only started to happen after moving back to Thailand last year after a couple of years away. Up until a year or so ago , my 2017 Switch was still in great condition, other than the Joy-con. Also , when playing graphically intensive games , the console frequently powers off with a warning its overheating. On top of all that , my Pro Controller just packed in one day last year. It's the first controller I've ever had pack in, in 40 years of gaming. And just to add another layer to it all, the original Switch I bought was defect from day one. One of the Joy-con would frequently disconnect. I had to return it for a replacement. So I've been quite unlucky this gen.
I love my Switch, I love Nintendo , but man they've disappointed me this gen in various ways. From hardware to software. If Switch 2 didn't have BC , it may have been the final straw. Thankfully ,it has BC. so I'll buy it and I'll love it 😅 I'm sure the hardware will be more sturdy this time around. Also, with fewer Wii U ports , I'll be happier with the software side too.
Sorry for that rant. I like your idea about an inexpensive consolised version. I definitely think there will be a budget Switch in future and it'll continue to sell for a few years yet, particularly in developing countries.
@-wc- My Switch is warped with the back almost popping off and the screen has a large crack. Yet it's just been sat in the dock for 99% of its life. My Joy-con haven't worked for the last 5 years , despite the fact I barely ever used them. I have well over 400 games on the console. So if the next console didn't have BC , I'd have no choice but to buy another Switch, else lose the ability to play the library I've spent thousands on. If I had been forced to do that, I would likely have skipped Switch 2 all together.
@RetroGames Once the next console is out, I imagine the Switch will get a hefty price cut and value bundles. They're still supporting it with big games for at least the next 6 months in its 8th year, so I'm not really sure what more they can do? It will likely continue to sell in decent numbers for a few years yet, particularly in developing countries. Whether that will be enough to get it past PS2, remains to be seen.
I am ready for Switch 2 , as is my body, my warped and cracked console, the Nintendo community, the developers ,the publishers, the investors, the consumers and the industry itself. The time for a reveal is now.
@Jprhino84 It's definitely working. I was just listening to Gusty Garden Galaxy there and I now want to play Mario Galaxy. What a tune that is! It brings back so many memories. My life was so drastically different then.
I was listening to Fear Factory from DKC earlier. What a fantastic track. It makes me want to play through the game again. It's been over a decade since I last played DKC2. After listening to some of the tracks, I think it's time for another play through.
@Buizel I would put Alien Isolation above Nier as the most impressive Switch port. It's such a good looking game that it's hard to believe it's a Switch game. Digital Foundry rated it as even better looking than the PS4 and XbOne versions.
Just last night I was thinking, I hope Starfox makes a comeback on Switch 2. Ideally in a brand new game. I wanted to love Zero, I really did, but I never quite managed to get comfortable with the controls. It would be nice to play a remastered version with normal controls but I would much prefer a whole new game. I think even if Zero had normal controls, it wouldn't be a great game.
When I searched for Nintendo Music in Play Store , it's nowhere to be seen. I had to click on Nintendo, to open all their apps and scroll along a bit. I'm in Thailand though, which probably explains that. But why was I even able to download it, if it's not officially available here yet.
I won't be buying it as I didn't like it. Considering how hyped I was from it's reveal up till it's launch, it has to rate as one of my biggest gaming disappointments of all time.
It's certainly nice to have but I can't see myself using it much. Whenever I'm in the mood to listen to some Nintendo music though, I will use this app.
Oddly, it lets you extend some tracks to 15, 30, 60 minutes but not every track. You can extend Kakariko Village and Lost Woods but not Lon Lon Ranch or Hyrule Field.
@AfroMario Personally, I don't agree with X being the best place to start. I absolutely loved the original on Wii and was very hyped for X from it's reveal up till it came out. I bought it at launch and played it for a lot of hours but i just could not get into it. I tried again a few months later and had the same experience.
My experience with X put me off the series to the point I have never bothered with any of the sequels. If you want to try the series ,I would definitely recommend starting with the remastered original. It is way more structured than X and had me hooked from the opening scenes.
Is it fair to say that this is the best 3D Sonic has ever been? I loved Adventure back in the day but it was rough. The only other 3D Sonic I've played was Colors on Wii , which I didn't like.
Shadow of Chernobyl was the first game I ever bought on Steam , after getting my first laptop. I could not figure on how to get it working with a controller though and gave up. If the Switch port reviews well , I'll be getting it for sure. That said , I've got the 2 Metro games in my backlog. Played the first for a few hours but it wasn't really clicking with me. That was around the same time I had a similar experience with Alien Isolation. I went back to it recently, and now it's one of my all time favourites.
It's almost criminal that we never got a new Donkey Kong on Switch. If it is the case that Retro had to stop working on a new game to work on MP4, I'll take that, as it'll surely reappear on the next console, looking even better.
Nintendo will have known fine well it would be leaked online within seconds. It's all publicity for them. I would wager much of what is featured is just a placeholder and the final product will be very differentt to what's been shown. So it being leaked doesn't really reveal anything other than they're working on an MMO with user created content. In the end, it could be something like a 3D Mario Maker or a Nintendoland type game.
@B_Lindz I like the way Odyssey is structured, it;s something different. But I do prefer the more focused level design of Galaxy and 3D World and I hope they go back that design. The main negative I have with Odyssey is how easy some of the Moons are to collect, almost like Korok seeds. I think the more easy ones should have been a separate collectible. Maybe even Mini Moons, where 4 make up 1 Power Moon.

@TotalHenshin Yeah, I should have wrote developer/ publisher. I wasn't really meaning this game though, just in general. I'm not a fan.
