Started playing Outlast yesterday, a ‘walking sim’ horror game (or perhaps running and hiding sim is more appropriate). Liking it but hoping it only lasts a few hours as I’ll probably start getting bored after that.
Also Mario Kart 8 deluxe, playing the new tracks and trying to get gold with 3 stars on 150cc in every cup.
Might play a board game too but probably solo as my family are uninterested monsters (Wingspan, Aeon’s End, Spirit Island, Mansions of Madness)
Probably not much. Played a bit of Splatoon 3 and Mario Kart 8 deluxe and also some Slay the Spire yesterday. Going to leave it a week or two before starting another game - maybe Outlast or, finally, Zelda TOTK.
Mario… Kart (8D) - not played this much since the wii u and now I’ve got the online expansion pak with the extra courses I thought it was about time I put some effort. Currently going for gold on all the 150cc cups but I’m a little rusty it’s fair to say.
A bit of f zero 99, maybe some more Hades (rolled the credits last weekend but still loads to do). Also played some slay the spire on iPad - up to ascension level 7 and it’s hard!
Hades. Utterly addicted. I think I’m close to seeing credits so planning to put down after that and tackle the backlog. I’ll probably come back to it in the future as I know there’s still tons to do and see and it doesn’t feel like a weary grind. Can’t imagine I’ll ever 100% it though, I just don’t have that much time spare!
Maybe a bit of f zero 99 if I get chance, and perhaps a bit of N64 on the online service. Speaking of which, my son (16) who is a massive BOTW and TOTK fan has just started Ocarina of Time. Hopefully he sticks with it and enjoys it.
Hades and Mario kart 8 with a bit of f zero 99. I’m on that ‘palate cleanser between big games’ that was covered in an article a week or so ago.
Love hades but struggling to get better - beat the boss once but can’t seem to do it again. Still enjoying it tho. Edit beat them twice more this weekend! Actually reaching the point where I’m focusing a bit more on how best to combine boons etc and adapting how I play to what I have on a run. Still think I’m a way off clearing it with pact of punishment (even just 1 level), but I may yet see all the story has to offer and upgrade a few weapons. What a game.
Games where I can do a few runs or rounds, like Hades, Enter the Gungeon, Mario Kart, Civ 6, Fast RMX etc (often games I’ll probably never ‘beat’ but enjoy playing for a while). Sometimes a short story based game, like an indie I’ve picked up on sale.
I also went through a phase of continuing my Skyrim play through for a week or two between other games but not sure I can be bothered to go back to it now. I may get No Mans Sky and do the same with that - play until I get a bit bored then put it down and revisit between other games.
I finished Octopath Traveller at last. Couldn’t be bothered with the ‘true ending’ quest so just watched that on YouTube.
Finally got the online expansion pack, since cdkeys had a good deal plus the bonus gold points at the moment, meaning that upgrading from regular family pass to expansion pack family pass has ended up costing me barely any more than just letting it auto renew.
So I’m dabbling in N64 and mega drive games this weekend. Wave Race 64 is the highlight, bringing the nostalgia. Plus some f zero 99.
A bit of FZero 99 and probably push on with Octopath Traveller - the end is in sight! Been playing on and off for months now (I probably average 4 to 5 hours a week of video games) so I’m ready to move on.
A bit of FZero 99 which I’m really enjoying but know won’t hold my attention for too long (which is fine).
Also plodding on with Octopath Traveller. I’m down to last 4 character’s chapter fours so really want to complete the game, but it’s hard not to abandon it and start something else. Don’t get me wrong I’ve enjoyed the game, it just gets a bit samey after this long.
Just finished Zelda Oracle of Ages. Will probably leave it a while before I tackle Seasons. Also played a bit of Spelunky (still yet to clear the first ‘world’) and fired up Splatoon 3 for the first time in ages - completely forgot there’s a splatfest on.
Zelda Oracle of Ages. Near the end I think, and been enjoying it (except for the water dungeon which seemed as awkward to navigate as it’s N64 counterpart).
Might try and play a bit more Spelunky and see if it finally grabs me. I’ve also been tempted by the sale, but still got that backlog (including TOTK and pikmin 4) plus Octopath Traveler to finish, so really trying to resist. Plus my online subscription will renew in a few weeks and I’m considering getting the expansion pass for a year, which would give me a whole load of extra backlog. Tough times!
Octopath traveller. I was hoping to finish it before I go on holiday but I’m working tomorrow and then holiday the next day, with 6 chapter 4s still to go so that ain’t happening. Maybe I’ll play it while I’m away, although I’d quite to play something a bit smaller while I’m away so we’ll see.
Also played a bit of Root (digital version of the bird game) on iPad. Seems good so far.
I’m one of those that loved the original, still quite regularly listen to the soundtrack. It did drag a bit in a couple of places but it was great for a couple of dark evenings by myself. Quite spooky and atmospheric. I’m sure I’ll pick this up at some point.
Octopath traveller again for me, although progress is slow as I’m only spending a couple of hours or so a week on games right now. I really should try and fix that!
Octopath Traveller for me, almost halfway through the chapter 3s. Feeling a bit grindy at times and the rigid formulaic-ness of each chapter wears the further I get in, but I’m still liking it overall. I do wish there was more music as well - what’s there is brilliant but you tend to hear the same tracks over and over - would be good to have more than 1 ‘bad guy do bad stuff’ track given how often it occurs due to the game’s structure.
I’m still working through the game, just picked it up again after putting it away for a few months on completing all the chapter twos.
I love the graphics, the music and most of the characters and stories, but it does drag at times. I like the battle system in general but it feels like even the easy battles take too long. But hey, overall I still really like the game. Not sure I’d want to play loads of sequels unless they change things up. Still not sure whether I’ll get the second game or not, backlog and all that.
I finally escaped hell! After about 55 attempts I beat Hades for the first time. Almost without using any death defiances as well, somehow. What a game. Time to put it to bed again for a while but I think I will come back to it. Still plenty to unlock and story to uncover.
Also picked Octopath Traveller back up again after a couple of months away, and a little bit of splatoon 3.
Been playing Hades, hopelessly addicted again even though I still haven’t escaped after about 50 runs. I do make it to the last stage most runs now and have come close-ish to beating the boss a couple of times.
Will try and have a go on the Big Run in Splatoon 3 too
Good old splatoon 3. Trying out some new weapons although I still suck with anything other than aerospray mg. Love the game though. Might play a smaller game too, not sure what, ahead of picking Octopath back up again soon.
Also been playing a bit of Desta on iPad (via Netflix) which is kind of a fun diversion. Cool to hear proper Manc accents in a game! (Not that I’m from Manchester myself)
Splatoon 3! Think I’ll play it a bit in the next few days, get some more stuff from this season’s catalogue before it’s gone. Trying to use weapons other than Aerospray but I’m so much worse with anything else!
Other than that, I finished Quake yesterday and may pick up Octopath again soon.
And sunshine of course. Long weekend, especially as I’ve taken Tuesday off work for my son’s 16th birthday. He’s getting TOTK from my dad so I’m sure we’ll both be playing that soon enough
@LikelySatan Yeah, I especially hate those little blue things that jump at you! Spawn I think they’re called? Give me a chainsaw-wielding grenade thrower any day…
Bit of splatoon 3 - decided I want to get at least some of the chill season catalogue (only up to level 14) although I probably won’t get much past level 20.
Also Quake - towards the end of the main campaign I think. Not sure I’ll do any of the additional content because backlog, but it’s been fun.
I have also been playing Terra Nil and Spiritfarer on iPad (free through Netflix) but both keep crashing and I’m running out of patience with them.
Thanks for the heads up. My son has been desperate for a couple of these for ages, and it’s just in time for his birthday. He’s going to be so chuffed! Might just get a couple for me as well…
My son will be getting TOTK for his birthday but holding off playing it until after his GCSE exams finish mid June. So I think I’ll probably play it late summer or Autumn.
In the meantime, there’s a backlog to address! Half way through Quake which is good mindless fun and play a little bit of Splatoon since I enjoyed picking it up again last weekend. Kind of tempted to play BOTW again but don’t really have enough hours in my life…
Splatfest, first time on splatoon in ages. If I get time might try the Cadence of Hyrule demo and also play a bit of Quake which I started last weekend.
Quake, finally! 3 levels in so far. Also a run or two in Hades and playing Civ 6 but on pc. I hardly ever play games on pc but I picked it up for £3.50 on cd keys as I fancied trying it on the bigger screen. I love playing it on Switch but it can get a bit frustrating how much scrolling around you have to do.
Oh and I might play a bit of splatoon 3 if I get chance, it’s been a while
Going to wait for a sale to get at least a couple of the ff pixel remasters. This weekend it’s Civilisation 6 - I probably play 1 game of this a year, but when I do I’m hopelessly addicted. Playing as Spain, going for my first religious victory. I’ve converted Germany and Russia to Buddhism so well on the way!
My first was Final Fantasy Legend on the gameboy, when 12 year old me lived in the US, although I guess that doesn’t count since it was only branded as FF for Western release. I was amazed they could fit these worlds on a gameboy game, even more so with the second which I loved.
My first ‘real’ FF game was by accident - we had returned to the UK and my dad was on a business trip to the US. I asked him to get me FF Legend 3 while he was there - he told me he’d eventually tracked it down second hand after not finding it new anywhere, but when he got back it turned out he’d misunderstood and got Final Fantasy 3 for the SNES instead (or 6 as we know it now). At first I was annoyed since I couldn’t play it on my PAL Uk SNES. A few months later I got hold of a converter cartridge and safe to say I was blown away. I’d never experienced a game with such deep characters and story and amazing music. Happy memories!
Could be good if it’s done well. I stopped playing Pokémon go years ago but it’s been great in helping encourage my kids to go on walks. It’s never going to be as good gameplay wise as a core monster Hunter game but could be a good little diversion for when you’re out and about.
Finished Shovel Knight on 3DS (at least the main campaign) so probably going to start a game of Civ 6. Don’t think I managed a culture victory yet so may try that.
Edit - civ 6 wanted to update itself so I’m the meantime I picked up Hades again. Good times!
I had the first game and I remember enjoying it but being ready for it to be over (can’t actually recall if I completed it or not). I’d give one of them a go on Switch online (which clearly won’t happen now) but don’t think I’ll invest in the collection.
Started Shovel Knight on my 3DS while I was on holiday so I’ll carry on with that. Tempted to start a new game on Civ 6 on the Switch as well, but then that’ll be all my time sunk!
I’m away this weekend and left the Switch at home (good excuse to break out the 3DS). But if I did have the Switch I’d have gone for Nessie. Can’t deny my slightly tenuous Scottish roots!
Waiting for the Eurostar to Brussels - few days holiday with the family. I’ve left the Switch at home and brought the 3DS so will start on some of those recent purchases - Shovel Knight, the Steamworld Dig games, Virtues Last Reward, maybe a couple of others. Not played the 3DS for ages so quite looking forward to it!
I picked up a few bargains but there’s a few games I would like to play that I skipped - I know from history that I rarely go back to my backlog on old consoles given that I always have more than I can feasibly get through on my current console. And many of the Nintendo published games will likely appear in switch online at some point or be remastered if they’re really good.
@JasmineDragon Hey, welcome back! Not sure we ever spoke (virtually) but always enjoyed your comments and was sorry to hear of the problems you were facing. Hope you find more games that work for you.
Just finished the last of the chapter twos in Octopath Traveller (the first one). Still loving it but might rest it for a few weeks to stop it feeling stale.
Probably dabble a bit in gameboy on the Switch online (not sure which games) and maybe a run or two of Hades
Still Octopath Traveller (the first one) for me on Switch, and Spiritfarer and Slay the Spire on iPad. Maybe have another run at Hades which I haven’t played in a while.
I bought a few super cheap 3DS eshop games too (steamworld dig 2, Kokopolo, shovel knight and a couple of others) but will probably save those for holiday.
Octopath traveller. Perfect cozy game for the weather - there’s just something about playing snes style rpgs when it’s snowy outside that I absolutely love.
Some splatoon 3 this morning for the big run. Not played much in a few weeks so enjoyed a good bit of splatting, might do a bit of regular turf war if I have time.
And plodding in with Octopath (the first one), doing all the chapter twos.
Also played Kirby’s dreamland on the gameboy service for a bit of nostalgia. I think it might have been the first game I bought with my own money from a secondhand game shop. A short but sweet play through, perfect given my backlog!
Octopath traveller again (the first one). Might take a break from it soon so it doesn’t start to feel stale, but I am still enjoying it. Maybe a bit of gameboy stuff too if I get chance
I also tried the Theatrythm demo and I kind of like it but not sure I like it enough to invest time and cash into it (although I adore ff music in general)
I can’t see them doing anything huge beyond Mario, maybe small things. Certainly not a ‘Zelda world’ or ‘splatoon world’. Mario is an iconic cultural figure recognised by most people, and the other IPs just don’t have quite the same scale of recognition. Except Pokémon perhaps.
Ploughing on with Octopath Traveller - not played much lately so want to try and make some progress. I actually died on a boss for the first time so it was good to get a bit of challenge.
Also Spiritfarer on iPad. It’s crashed a couple of times but at least it autosaves. Fully recommend to anyone who has Netflix as its free. Would be better with a controller but the touch screen is fine for the most part for this one.
Might do a bit of the gameboy stuff too if I have time

Splatoon 3 for the splatoween. Not played in a while and I’m pretty rusty! Meant to play in the week a bit to get some practice in but never had time.
Bit of slay the spire too, become addicted again it seems! And maybe some Mario kart 8 d with the kids.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 21st)
@HaileySheridon Thanks! Sadly my N64 is bust so I haven’t played it in years. Hoping it comes to the NSO service one day… Shake Shake!

I guess my mind is in the gutter too because that instantly sounded like a euphemism too me. Riding the inchworm pipe. Giggle

Hades. Utterly addicted. I think I’m close to seeing credits so planning to put down after that and tackle the backlog. Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (August 26th)
Zelda Oracle of Ages on the Switch. Never played it back in the day but still getting the gb Zelda nostalgia vibes as I loved link’s awakening.
Also played a bit of spelunky which I picked up a while back on sale but it’s not really grabbed me yet. Will persist and see if it clicks.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 29th)
Octopath Traveller still. Started the chapter 4s so getting there slowly but surely!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 22nd)
Octopath Traveller - not getting much time for gaming so still slowly working through chapter 3 for each character.
At a music festival in my city most of the weekend, despite the constant rain, so doubt I’ll progress all that much.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 15th)
Not much honestly, had other plans. Feel sort of guilty for missing the splatfest. If I get chance I might play a bit more of Octopath Traveller.

I’ve left the Switch at home and brought the 3DS so will start on some of those recent purchases - Shovel Knight, the Steamworld Dig games, Virtues Last Reward, maybe a couple of others. Not played the 3DS for ages so quite looking forward to it!
Re: The 3DS & Wii U eShops Have Officially Closed, Purchases "No Longer Possible"
But yeah, end of an era and all that!

@JasmineDragon Hey, welcome back! Not sure we ever spoke (virtually) but always enjoyed your comments and was sorry to hear of the problems you were facing. Hope you find more games that work for you.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 25th)
Just finished the last of the chapter twos in Octopath Traveller (the first one). Still loving it but might rest it for a few weeks to stop it feeling stale.
Probably dabble a bit in gameboy on the Switch online (not sure which games) and maybe a run or two of Hades
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 18th)
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 11th)
Octopath traveller. Perfect cozy game for the weather - there’s just something about playing snes style rpgs when it’s snowy outside that I absolutely love.
Also a bit of Slay the Spire and Spiritfarer
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 4th)
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 25th)
Re: Miyamoto: "Other IPs" Like Splatoon Were Considered For Super Nintendo World
I can’t see them doing anything huge beyond Mario, maybe small things. Certainly not a ‘Zelda world’ or ‘splatoon world’. Mario is an iconic cultural figure recognised by most people, and the other IPs just don’t have quite the same scale of recognition. Except Pokémon perhaps.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 18th)
