Me, my bro and a couple of mates waited weeks (maybe months) for Dixons in Solihull to get the multitap in stock so we could play this and Bomberman in 4 player. Totally worth it, absolutely loved this game. And those little touches Mr Scullion describes have really stuck in my head to this day. Looking forward to playing again, albeit only 1 or 2 player.
Playing Mystic Quest on the Mana Collection. Wasn't the reason i bought Mana Collection but enjoying it, holds up surprisingly well and i don't remember much from my playthrough in the 90s.
@Smashfan502 @Bondi_Surfer @Smashfan502 - there was a film a few years ago that was all about the Turing test and the main character (played by Alicia Vikander) was called Ava. Ex Machina it was called I think, really good if u like moody sci fi that makes you think.
Played Opus: The Day We Found Earth last week which was a nice little filler, and have started on Ring Fit Adventure. I'm relatively active anyway but feeling the ache! Other than that, just some Enter The Gungeon, Tetris 99 and Snes Mario Kart i think. Might start on Hard West soon if I have time.
I sold a few games a couple of years ago to buy an ipad - n64, gb, gba, gc and wii. Probably got an average of about 20 gbp per game, some more some less. Kind of felt bad but most of them had just been in the loft for years.
Think the most valuable one is my us snes copy of final fantasy 3 (now ff6) - even with the box and manual being quite tatty its a reasonable amount. But not enough to make me part with it, even though that is also just sitting in the loft! Guess the nostalgia is just too strong with that one...
Trying not to add anything else to my wishlist as it's getting ridiculous, but this sounds great. The description of that first part reminded me of that interactive black mirror episode - 'Bandersnatch' I think it was called - which I really liked for its 80s nostalgia and creepy 'vibe' (yes i went there).
Just Civ 6 for me. My second campaign (first was on the tutorial a few months back) and it's thoroughly addictive. Close to a science victory then I'm ready to move on to something else, but I'm sure I'll be abck again soon to try another campaign. Looks like there is quite a lot of varoety by tweaking which leader, map size, difficulty etc.
Switch is my main console and the only one I buy games for. My son has an xbox 1 and sometimes I'm tempted to buy games on that, either because they aren't available for switch or are cheaper/better graphics. But I don't have time to play all the switch games I want, and as others have said I've got much more chance of completing a game on switch. Some games i play almost exclusively handheld and some i prefer on the big tv, but the majority of games get played on both so hybrid is perfect.
Will finish off zelda link to the past - just got the final boss now - and a bit of enter the gungeon. Might start a new smallish game if i get chance, maybe Hard West or something like that. Desperately trying to not buy any more games until I clear the backlog a bit, and my time for gaming is limited with kids, job etc. Also trying to spend less time playing games as my other hobbies and stuff have suffered a bit the last few months (especially when i was playing xc2!). It's hard with so many great games!
I started on Castle of Heart and while it seems a pretty decent game I'm not sure it's for me. Also started SNES zelda on switch online. Been a while and I'm enjoying it. Probably play a bit of civ 6, enter the gungeon and maybe some splatoon 2 over xmas. Might start on collection of mana too, which was almost free on cart via an amazon app offer, although my son is getting pokemon sword for xmas so i suspect my time on the switch will be limited for a few weeks soon!
Excellent news. I'd only played through the tutorial (a few weeka ago) and was thinking of starting a game but then the news of the crashes surfaced. Looks like i can get stuck in now.
Getting back into Enter the Gungeon, hitting the internet for tips to get better as I'm not very good! Brilliant game though. Also a bit of tetris 99 which I haven't played in an age, tiny bit of splatoon 2, and maybe some snes mario kart.
Bought collection of mana but might hold off for a while, don't really want to start any longish story type games since xenoblade chronicles 2 juat dominated so much of my time the last 2 or 3 months
Finally finished xenoblade chronicles 2 this week. Really enjoyed it but glad it's done now as it did go on a bit at times. Going to have a bit of time off from big epic games so ive played a little bit of enter the gungeon and splatoon 2 this morning and yesterday - pleased to see that there are still plenty of people online in splatoon 2.
Would like to have a play of civ 6 too as I've only played through the tutorial so far (as a mid xc2 break), but the game breaking bugs have put me off. Unless i just don't update the game i suppose.
Still xenoblade chronicles 2 for me, although limited time this weekend. Much as I've enjoyed this game, I'm ready to get it done now so going to try and ignore most if the sidequests etc. If i do that i hope to finish in about 20 hours or less so should be finished b4 xmas at least!
Also trying to avoid the temptation of black friday sales. Backlog is big enough as it is.
Surely people can see that there are a hell of a lot more games releasing than there ever used to be? I'm not a games reviewer, but it's clear that it takes a lot of time to play a game with a critical eye, draft and probably rewrite a review and publish it. If the site was going to give a full review to every game they'd need about 4 times as many writers and we'd all be paying a subscription, as i bet loads of those smaller game reviews wouldn't get enough traffic to pay for themselves via ads.
Back on xenoblade chronicles 2 for me. Occasionall i get a bit fed up of all of the systems going on in the game but in general I'm loving it. Little bit of Into The Breach too.
My method is to add games to my wishlist, mainly based on nlife reviews and comments, then occasionally I'll scroll through my wishlist to see what's on sale. Having said that, my backlog is big enough that I should just ignore the sales for a while...
As the library grows I am trying to be more picky - I might like the sound of a game, but I try and ask myself 'are there already similar games on my wishlist that I would rather play than this one'. I could probably do with cleaning it up a bit, there will be games that I put on there 2 years ago which I wouldn't get now simply because there are other games that i would now rather play.
I agree though, if you buy more games than me, or you don't base decisions on reviews etc, then discoverability is an issue.
My favourite was the original gameboy zelda, where if you pressed the menu button just as you moved from one screen to another, it would warp you to the other side of the screen, often to parts of the map that you were never supposed to be able to go in. I spent hours experimenting with this, discovering wierd 'behind the scenes' rooms and things.
Well last weekend I said I was trying out civ 6 but it hadn't got its hooks into me. Now it has! 'Finished' the tutorial (although it seems buggy as it didn't actually end) and really enjoyed it.
Playing a bit of Into The Breach as a pallette cleanser then I think I will pick up where I left off in Xenoblade 2 for another few weeks. Will definitely be coming back to Civ 6, looking forward to see how it plays outside of the tutorial.
Been playing xenoblade chronicles 2 and enjoying it, but decided to take a short break and try civ 6 which i picked up a couple of months ago. Working through the tutorial, hasn't really gripped me yet but hopefully it will.
I started Xenoblade Chronicles 2 recently (finally) so a bit of that. Enjoying the world and most of the characters and music, just wish i had more time to play. I suspect it will be next year before i finish it.
Also squeezed in a bit of mario kart and stunt race fx on the snes app. Happy memories
I loved this game on ds, but had many late nights having 'just one more go' in bed, and then not being able to sleep, gems matching themselves behind my eyes and sending me crazy...
Unlikely I'll double dip but if you haven't played it I can definitely recommend.
Been playing Into The Breach. Loved it but a bit fatigued so might rest it for a bit. The wife is away next week so will have a few evening hours to myself so thinking I might start a bigger game. Starlink perhaps, or maybe Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
Finished Steamworl Heist which i loved and now into the Breach, which I also love. On hols in florida and picked up civilization 6 in walmart for 30 dollars so going to start on that on the plane home probs. Hooray for Switch, improving holifays since 2017!
Steamworld Heist which I'm loving and a bit of mario tennis. Might pick starlink up today when i go into town. Also got FTL for my ipad which is addictive.
Love reading stuff like this. I kind of dreamed of being a game music composer as a teenager so reading about the process really interests me. Recommend the bbc 6 music short series on video game music if its still available to download, that was brill
I did enjoy playing warframe when it came out for switch but after about 10 hours or so i realised it was a bit too much of a time commitment for me. I only get a few hours a week on average for games so it was basically play warframe only or backlog games. If time was not an issue I'd probably still be playing it as i did like the world and the gameplay.
Steamworld Heist which I'm enjoying now I've gotten past a bit I was stuck on for a while (occurred to me it might be worth replaying some levels to power up my team and learn to use some of their abilities more effectively).
Probably a bit of mario tennis if I get chance.
Also playing the niantic harry potter game but starting to tire already of its mobile mechanics, grinding away for incremental little rewards with little actual gameplay.
Not sure a zelda dungeon maker would work as a full game. The quick challenge nature of a mario level works well, but I'm not sure that many user-designed zelda dungeons would be worth playing. To make a unique and interesting full zelda dungeon would require more time and design skill than a playable mario level i would think.
Still, nice bonus feature for a proper zelda game.
Finished off Goetia with the judicious use of online guides. Kind of enjoyed it but the puzzles were just too obtuse. Started on steam world heist which i wasn't sure about initially but really enjoying.
Some mario tennis and tetris 99 - got me a golden ticket so fingers crossed!
Finally, been playing Harry Potter Wizards Unite on mobile. Not much on mobile games and the mechanics seem very mobiley, but in the mood for some potter after rewatching the films with the kids
@gaga64 I think you have a point actually. It's the same with video games. I know that what i think of as some of the best video games have been bettered, but because they hit me at that time of my life they just seem like classics.
Music, too. I still love new music but there are so many people my age and older who seem convinced that everything produced after their teenage years has been rubbish and only listen to the same old stuff. Of course, I also consider the albums and bands of my youth as classics.
Randomly decided to play Goetia, a backlog game I got in a sale a whike ago. Not ashamed to admit I've had to resort to online guides a couple of times as my time is limited and some of the puzzles are very obtuse. Still, enjoying the gothic atmosphere.
Hadn't realized there was a splatfest - might power up splatoon if i get chance later (i probably won't).
Also played a bit if jackbox party 2 last night with kids and friends, although it seems really temperamental connecting to everyone's devices.
I'm not convinced it will be set in the same world. It would be pretty dull unless they changed absolutely loads. Seems more likely a dark version of it or even they get transported somewhere else, not unlike how the opening cutscene of majoras mask transports link to termina from hyrule.
So I'm guessing from rhe comments that people prefer the prequel trilogy to the newer films? I thought everyone hated those? Personally i thought they were ok at the time but now they just seem dull, whereas i quite like the newer ones. Oh well, opinions and all that, not looking to start a flamewar! (We still say flamewar in 2019, right?)
Sad to see these end. I don't play regularly but always come back in for the splatfests if i can. And unfortunately its tramlines that weekend, a local musival festival, so i doubt I'll get much chance to play.
Not a lot of gaming time for me this weekend. I played a little bit of thumper - my god that game gets tough - and some mario tennis which i recently got. Languishing at D- in the online tournament rating, really need to get better!
Wish it was a 48 hour splatfest again. Don't think I'll get chance to play this one as me and the wife are having a joint 40th birthday / 10th wedding anniversary party next saturday evening then a bbq on the sunday for my son's 12 th birthday.
And i want to try and get that that tetris gameboy theme too. It's a hard life!
My main goal is to resist buying anything in the sale as I'm just so slow at getting through my backlog. Other than that, dipping into hyrule to finish the champions ballad and explore some areas that i didn't get to when i played it probably. And also some enter the gungeon and a little bit of tetris 99.
I'd like to play more but life just gets in the way!
Probably not much this weekend, but at the moment I'm playing botw dlc and a few random quests etc that i didn't get round to when i played it last year.
Might try and get in a bit of tetris 99 and enter the gungeon if i can

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 8th)
I started Hard West but not really feeling it so might put it aside and try again in few weeks or months.
Just a bit of snes mario kart, maybe some splatoon 2. Other than that some physical board games tonight as my bro and his family are up.
