Re: Wario Land-Inspired 'Antonblast' Suffers Last-Minute Delay On Switch

Matroska

@solarwolf07 Yeah, like Duke Nukem Forever and Aliens Colonial Marines, right? And Cyberpunk 2077 was delayed, took absolutely ages to make, and released in an awful state. The other part of the quote (which probably wasn't even said by Miyamoto, there's no actual source for it) is something like "a bad game is bad forever"? Which also isn't true because a game can release in a bad state, like CP77, but get fixed. NMS too.

Not having a go at you personally, I just find it a really inaccurate sentiment. 😅

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Kid Icarus (NES)

Matroska

The American one is awful. It looks like he's just farted out an explosion while mildly enjoying watching a giant bee vomit. It's between Europe and Japan, and since they use the same artwork, it's down to if you prefer it being framed or not, and if you like the Japanese writing.

Re: Review: Yakuza Kiwami (Switch) - A Decent Port Of An Ambitious, Frustrating Game

Matroska

@MARl0 There's one difficulty spike when you fight Majima but the game actually warms you it's going to get harder and even tells you to level up in that fight rush dungeon. And yeah, if you don't, it's brutal. Other than that, I'd say it was a pretty easy and consistent experience.

All the games are like that, there might be the odd minor spike but they're pretty smooth in terms of difficulty curve. I'd love to see footage of this writer's gameplay with these supposed difficulty spikes. I get the feeling it'll be Cuphead all over again.

Re: Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes Outlines Upcoming Story Expansion DLC

Matroska

@HeadPirate Yeah, I know what you mean. The problem is the game is designed in a way that means you almost always use auto battle. As such the game breaks down to walking through an area, getting randomly attacked, clicking "auto" and then watching the same animations over and over again. Then repeat.

I'm playing Unicorn Overlord, which is amazing, and not only can you fast forward everything, you can completely skip battles. The battles are automatic so the game acknowledges you might not want to watch them.

Re: Staff At UK Retailer GAME Reportedly Facing Redundancies

Matroska

@Xeno_Aura People that buy physical buy from Amazon, the Game Collection, Shopto, Simply Games, or other online stores. Very casual gamers, or non-gamers buying something for their kids or partner, will also buy from supermarkets like Tesco. GAME has been in a weird position for a very long time as more hardcore gamers bought stuff online, casual ones bought from Tesco, and both mainly bought digital anyway. It was never really clear who GAME was for as it's always been too expensive and with limited stock compared to online stores.

Re: Reynatis Is An Urban Fantasy RPG From Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts Writer

Matroska

@jump From the Mario Odyssey writer? There are plenty of games where that "boast" would sound worse. Nomura's the main overseer of KH, though, so it's pretty misleading since all the KH-isms are Nomura's. It'd be better to point out that he's the writer of the original FFVII.

@XenoShaun How can he be the FF7 fanfic writer when he's the writer of the original FF7?

Re: UK Charts: Nintendo Remains Strong As Starfield Warps Into View

Matroska

These charts are pretty pointless since they're only physical sales, and therefore massively artificially inflate Switch software sales relative to other platforms (the majority of games sold are physical on Switch whereas it's the other way around on other platforms). Plus it ignores PC sales as part of that process. And then you have stuff like Starfield releasing on Game Pass and therefore millions have no reason to buy it, physical or digital. It's like a music chart that only takes CD sales into account.

Re: Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot 'The 23rd World Tournament' DLC Update Now Available

Matroska

@link3710 Well there is no DBZ in the manga. That was an anime thing but then in America they also applied the Z branding to the localised manga to make it more appealing to the anime fans. I do know what you mean, though - but it's more that Z is when Gohan is around rather than when Goku is an adult (and let's face it, Goku is always still a child mentally 😄).

Re: Gallery: Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince "Sneak Peek" - Heroes, Story & World

Matroska

@Krakenous Because it was extra work outside of the budget of the base game. Think of it this way, would you expect to go to a restaurant and pay for a burger and then get all the other food they've just made included for free? They've already made that food. It's ready. Why should you pay extra for something a company you've just given money to has already made?

It's funny how people distinguish between day 1 DLC and other DLC; it still took the same amount of time to make, the same amount of money, the same resources. It's like if you and I drew two pictures at the same time and sold them online, but people expected both drawings for the price of one. Yet if I drew mine first, then you waited till later to draw yours, people would happily pay for each separately.

Re: Mortal Kombat 1's First DLC Character Has Seemingly Been Confirmed

Matroska

@Expa0 Homelander isn't an action hero, he's a psychopath with both a god complex and an inferiority complex - and an Oedipus complex. He encourages and even forces suicidal people to kill themselves, kidnaps children, went out with an actual Nazi, and is one second of loss of self-control away from killing everyone around him. So yeah, not much of an action hero. 😄

Re: Poll: Are You Still Playing Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

Matroska

I played for a while but didn't even do one dungeon. I almost immediately had a sense of over-familiarity, though. Kept trying to keep going but every shrine, every korok, every fetch quest, every clunky fight, etc, all just felt like I was still playing BotW. I think I'd actually rather play BotW because despite my familiarity to me, I have a strong association of freshness and originality with it. With TotK I have associations of it being stale and immediately feeling like I'd played it a lot before.

Re: Nintendo Teases How The ‘Gacha’ Mechanic Works In Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom

Matroska

@Kestrel These parts are in capsules that go into your inventory. The parts you find in the world can only be moved one at a time and cannot go into your inventory. Once these gacha parts come out of the capsules when you choose to use them, that's it - you can't put them back in. So it's actually the other way around, these machines encourage and aid exploration. The normal parts aren't really something you go looking for since you really only use them in the area you find them.

Re: Watch Out, Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Leaks Are Out In The Wild

Matroska

@Gex A few people got it and now it's been dumped and uploaded to various sites so now anyone with a hacked Switch or good PC can play it. Anything on YouTube is going to get deleted, though. In terms of actually seeing streams of gameplay, it shouldn't hard to avoid that - though as mentioned above, places like Tiktok are going to be worse than Twitch and YouTube.

Re: It Looks Like Cooking Recipes Are A Thing In Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom

Matroska

@Pod It supported the openness of the game. You could only have 3 hearts but give yourself at least 13 hearts (I forget the exact numbers) with some food. You could at least double your damage (particularly useful when each attack takes you very quickly towards the weapon breaking), or dramatically reduce incoming damage. You need never upgrade your stamina if you could be bothered to keep eating stamina restoration food or boost the max. Not to mention the environmental element resistance effects. It let you do things you "shouldn't" do yet and added a reason to explore beyond shrines and seeds.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom's Final Pre-Launch Trailer Is Absolutely Stunning

Matroska

Not sure what about it means BotW2 isn't still just a DLC expansion for BotW. Blood and Wine for TW3 was set in an entirely new country with a new cast and dozens and dozens of hours of new story, quests, etc. And that was DLC. This is basically a large mod for BotW - that's objectively true since they took BotW and simply modified what they had. Add some new areas, add more cutscenes, add a few more abilities. But all in the level editor they used for BotW with mainly the same assets. There are mods that change games more than this, especially for games like Skyrim which can transform the game beyond recognition - graphically and gameplay-wise.

It'll be a great game because BotW was a great game, and this is that game with some additions and a new story, literally so on a technical level.
