I managed to get it early. Honestly, it's pretty disappointing. You can't use the d-pad to move, you have to use the analogue stick, yet it's digital, 8-way movement. It feels pretty awful. The blurriness is distracting, they overdid it. It also runs at about 20fps despite looking so basic.
Are they going to change it so Jeralt is merely knocked unconscious to protect people whose fathers have died IRL? Remove all gameplay permadeath for the same reason? What about infinite money so people who struggle with poverty IRL aren't triggered?
Ring-Con sounds like another word for pyramid scheme. Anyway, as worthless as this kind of thing is, the adventure game elements are actually interesting to me.
That means Famitsu gave this a lower score than Umbrella Corps. I'm sure it'll be good but Famitsu scores are meaningless. They also gave Shadow the Hedgehog 31/40.
@Razer But MHW is on every platform apart from Switch, and that's because it has no chance in hell of running on it. It runs badly enough on a non-Pro PS4. Not sure if you could've come up with a worse example.
@Cosats It could have the highest sound quality in the world, it doesn't change that it isn't surround sound. If you don't have a surround sound setup, which it seems you don't, you won't notice any difference. I have a 5.1 setup and it really stands out. For the record, some SNES games have surround sound.
I played Astral Chain yesterday. The combat is surprisingly clunky for a Platinum game. I wouldn't have guessed it was them if I didn't already know and if not for their logo at the start. I'm really enjoying the unexpected RPG elements like light character customisation, side content and playful, quirky hidden things like the toilet fairy. Looks really good for a Switch game too.
@gamekill You know you can uninstall patches, right? And old games were patched with new revisions of the cart, like the Islamic chanting removed from OoT. In fact, it's arguably better now because to get the v1.0 of OoT you'd need to track down a very specific cart but now you'd just not install any patches or remove any that were installed.
@Tetsuo_808 It looks nothing like katakana or hiragana and is far too basic to be kanji. It also has spaces between the words but Japanese is written without spaces. There are also no accents off the side of any of the letters, like が compared to か, or ぱ compared to は.
That's not really that big in general, FFXV on PC is something like 150GB and I'd say most games are 40 or so. TW3 is about 52GB on PC so I guess that shows the extent of the texture downgrade we'll be getting here.
What kind of RPG elements does it have, if any? And is it a free roam kind of game or a linear, level by level thing? When it comes to DMC type games, I tend to find them too intimidating and intense, like I feel I'm always doing badly, so I barely play them as a result and therefore never "git gud". By contrast, if they're more RPGish, like Bloodborne, I find them more playable and I do actually end up good at them (e.g. I platinumed Bloodborne yet I've never finished a DMC, Bayonetta etc).
>Launch month sales tripled – yes, tripled – the previous best-selling Fire Emblem launch, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia.
SoV sold very badly, far worse than Awakening and Fates. I find it very hard to believe it was the previous best-selling FE launch, though it is the previous FE in general.
This is the same company that, years ago, sued a guy for mentioning he liked Metroid on his dating profile or some other "adult site". And still copyright strike let's plays for things like having cinematics in them.
@Majora101 I can't stand this music but you're coming across as clueless and immature. I just checked and Dua Lipa was the most streamed female artist in the UK in 2017, has had numerous top 10s, two number 1s, among about 30 award wins has won 2 Grammys and was the first ever female artist to be nominated for 5 or more Brit Awars in the same year. All that off only 1 album so far, it seems.
Something tells me you're either an American that thinks other countries don't matter, or guy that moans about all music after his early 20s being terrible yet has nostalgic songs from the 80s or 90s that were the one-hit wonders of their time, like people that grew up in the 60s liking the Monkees.
They're meant to be punks, not sure where this football hooligan idea in this thread is coming from. Punk music is massively associated with the UK. Football hooligans dress like chavs (as that's what they are) not classic punk rockers. The name also suggests Rebel Yell, as in the famous Billy Idol record, not the whisky.
That's pretty bad for FE. Not only did it sell less than a quarter of what it did last week, that was only for 4 days since it released 4 days before the day the chart was compiled.
So it's gone from about 143,000 in 4 days to 35,000 in 7 days. In other words, it's gone from selling about 35,000 a day to just 5,000 a day even though it's only its 2nd week out.
@PlayedNSlayed Probably not a good idea to get Conquest since you have 4 playthroughs of 3H to get through. 😆
But it's not bad, definitely the highlight of the otherwise awful Fates. If you want a classic FE experience, try New Mystery on the DS. It's a pure FE experience before they added all the waifu stuff. You'll need to get the fan translation though, it's easy to find.
I love this game but sadly it seems to be doing much worse in America. I checked a couple of days ago and it was #1 on Amazon UK, beating preorders for the upcoming FIFA 20 and CoD. Meanwhile on Amazon US it was #53.
The problem is that being in the UK top 10 typically on requires about 2000 sales or less. Being #1 obviously needs more but still not necessarily a huge amount. A game can do well everywhere else but flop in America and come out as a flop overall still.
I just want this series to do well, it was on death's door before they released it in the west for the first time with FE7. It's been up and down since, and is currently undergoing a sales decline again unless 3H turns it around.
@Roto13 To be fair, it doesn't even run at 30fps, and you spend more time running around the monastery in realtime than you do in battle. The game also only runs at 720p while docked and typically looks like PS3 character models in PS2 environments so it's quite mindblowing how it ended up like this.
Then again, it was 95% developed by the guys at Tecmo Koei that make the Romance of the Three Kingdoms strategy games which, while good games, feel janky and barebones as hell at times.
Probably the best tip is that mounted units are absolutely OP in this game, especially bow knights. If you make anyone into any other type of class, you're basically neutering them. The one exception is Gremories, they're the only foot unit worth anything.
Mounted units have always been preferred in FE but there were weaknesses too. Now you can learn an immunity to anti-flying or anti-cavalry weapons, or just unmount during battle, so all you're achieving by not picking them is making your units slower and less useful.
@Mrd8202 It's probably the easiest game in the series, loads of fans are complaining about how easy even hard mode is. Some previous games that let you grind could be made easy with excessive grinding, like Awakening or Sacred Stones, but 3H is easy regardless. They're adding Lunatic Mode in a patch later, though.
I'm not particularly a Broly fan but I get the feeling some people above don't realise there ARE two Broly's; the original non-canon movie one and the one from the recent Super movie. The original is pretty terrible but the new one is a lot better, having been developed by Toriyama and given more personality.
Increased sales could refer to cheaper eshop games, as well, so sales are up for cheap things but down for everything else. You've got to bear in mind that the entire point of these statements is to avoid worrying shareholders and losing even more money, not to accurately explain the situation.
Sony is obviously also a Japanese company and just had their largest Q1 operating profits of all time so there's way more to this that blaming exchange rates.
I love Obsidian but their games are very buggy. Like Bethesda, it's a bad idea to get their games on console where you don't have mods or fan patches to fix stuff. I'm sure the game itself will be amazing but I'm equally sure it'll be riddled with bugs, even some potentially gamebreaking ones. Also it's going to run at like 720p and 30fps docked and lack loads of graphical detail compared to other versions; I want my atmospheric space saga to be as immersive and fantastic looking as possible.
@tobibra The full VN, not the heavily censored, child-friendly version, came out on PC about 25 years ago. You can get it easily online with the fan translation.
This game is originally from the 90s. It's great, a cut above the usual VN, but this article makes it sounds like it's new. This is also the censored version with sex scenes removed that's been released on consoles before, also in the 90s IIRC.
@Heavyarms55 Shadow Dragon had about 7 difficulties. Let's see if we can get 8 in 3H.
@Joeynator3000 Well a patch is effectively DLC. It doesn't really make any difference what word you use. Either way, I'm glad they're doing it, the game is pretty easy so far and it's a game that deserves to be replayed a lot.
@Swiftstorm It's nothing like BotW's, though. That was ridiculous, like you'd hit something 10 times and your weapon was gone for good. In FE you can buy new weapons easily, in this one you can easily repair them and even use broken ones but they're weaker.
I'm about 10-12 hours in (a lot of that has been school stuff though so I've not done a huge amount of battles. What, I like fishing, okay? 😂) but I agree with this review. It does need a Lunatic Mode to be added in a patch, the framerate is inconsistent, I feel that the tutorials are stuck between being too obvious for FE experts and not comprehensive enough for newer players, but other than a few things like that, it's incredibly good.
It's good but it does also show that 10, maybe 11, of the top 20 aren't even available on the Switch. By contrast only 5 aren't available on PS4 and they're all Nintendo exclusives so that's a foregone conclusion. And we're also seeing very recently released games at the top only because the only other big games in the list are often from months ago, even years ago in some cases. That's not an anti-Nintendo thing, it applies across the board.
@ClassSonicSatAm Yet half of the Switch games in the top 10 are on other consoles or PC and came out on them years ago, in some cases about 15 years ago. And then add 2 more games that are "enhanced ports" of last gen Nintendo games.
The game itself is amazing, but saying "this is how a remaster should be done" is ridiculous
It only runs in about 800p docked and 500p undocked, both at 30fps. This is a game designed for a console that came out almost 20 years ago. The Zodiac System and several other changes were made back in the PS2 era too, they're not made as part of this remaster. The bulk of the changes unique to the remaster on PS4, PC, Switch etc are visual, and they're pathetic considering how old the game is.
@FragRed ah right, fair enough. Well I know you can in RPG Maker. It's just set up so there are no random battles and when you press a button, you trigger an animation that can damage the enemy (e.g. swinging a sword). Kind of like how even pure JRPGs can have attack animations outside of battle, but they trigger battle and give you an advantage rather than being a typical attack (like in Persona 5 for example). So this is that but it doesnt trigger a battle, it just does damage.
@FragRed LA isn't a JRPG, though. You want to make action games, not RPGs. But anyway, sure you can do that. It's far more simple, in fact. I made a Zelda type game (well, like 2 areas of one, lol) when I used to be really into RPG Maker in my teens.
"For every 'Mortal Kombat' there’s a 'Prince of Persia.'" I can't tell which is meant to be the good one here... I mean, both are terrible, one has 50 on Metacritic, the other 58; both awful scores and MK getting 8 points more is surely down to it being reviewed 25 years aho when standards were much lower.
It was a subtle reference to how Nintendo franchises never move forwards and evolve, they just move sidewards like a crab. Or maybe it was a wavedashing reference since crabs literally dash through waves.
The best version is the modded PC version where they fixed the sloppy translation and made it so the battle models are used for all characters out if battle too. They even made more proportionate models for all the NPCs too.
@Trajan Yeah, it's 4 dudes on a horizontal plane hitting each other. And Super Mario Bros is 1 dude on a horizontal plane hitting blocks with his head. Maybe we should describe all games like this.
@rjejr Not all FF are as completely linear as X. It's one of the most linear, even more than XIII. So X-2 being non-linear doesn't make it un-FF. It's also ridiculous to compare it to GTA since loads of RPGs were open way before GTA1, let alone GTA3.

@rjejr Not all FF are as completely linear as X. It's one of the most linear, even more than XIII. So X-2 being non-linear doesn't make it un-FF. It's also ridiculous to compare it to GTA since loads of RPGs were open way before GTA1, let alone GTA3.
