@Tempestryke Physical is coming in September, at least for Europe. Includes a digital OST too (physical of the OST is coming to vinyl).
That being said, while I don't particularly care about the FPS and I'm sure the game will be perfectly playable (because, let's be honest, gameplay-wise it doesn't look very Ninja Gaiden-y. I just hope it plays better than Blasphemous), but for a 2D pixel-art game to not be able to hit 60 when way more impressive-looking games are doing it on Switch is... odd. Smells of bad programming, rather than Switch not being up to snuff.
Still, Ninja Gaiden being one of my favourite, if not my absolute favourite game series, I'm excited for it and eagerly awaiting my physical copy.
I've got the LRG "Classic Editions", but am VERY tempted to double-dip, get these too and potentially try to recoup some of the costs by selling the game carts and just keeping the other stuff... Then again, I've got the vinyl OSTs for these (except for the DS Collection, as they ended up being locked in Materia's ridiculous boxset on that format) and how many times am I gonna flip through a booklet I can't even read?... But I do so love me some Castlevania...
Well, NOW I kinda regret getting the Limited Run Classic Editions. Sure, they look nice, but these are about the same price (maybe even slightly cheaper) and have multiple CDs (so probably complete OSTs) AND the booklet for the first collection.
I've got most of these OSTs on vinyl, but because of that huge boxset that Materia are putting out, the DS games didn't get stand-alone releases...
I've rarely been so tempted to double-dip on a physical...
@JJtheTexan "Defender of the Future" was a reboot, not a sequel and while it did have a lot of the same thematic and story elements, neither it, nor "Ecco Jr" (it being a prequel) tied-in to the cliffhanger ending of "Tides of Time", hence probably them phrasing this new one as a "third entry".
Now THIS is exciting news, though Annunziata has promised Ecco's being worked on so many times over the years only for nothing to come out of it, that I'm trying to keep expectations low...
Ecco 1 and 2 are some of my all-time favourite games and I very much would like to see a third one in the same style, that will wrap up the story.
Now I can't help but wonder if they'll make the secret password from the ending of "Tides of Time" actually work!
Well that was... underwhelming... nice, but underwhelming. Shame that leakers may have ruined a grander reveal. I did not expect it to be called Switch 2, that's for sure... waiting for the Direct.
While the current Sonic toys are MILES (Prower?) better than the cardboard stuff Happy Meals have had for several years now, it's naturally a huge downgrade from what we had 20-25 years ago. I still remember how excited I was for those LCD SEGA games back in the day...
Still, me and my best buddy went for a Happy Meal after we saw Sonic 3. I honestly expected much worse out of the toys. We don't have that ball from the advert though - over here, the toys are static figures of the characters that can be placed inside these plastic rings and spin around.
@KociolekDoSyta The full title was "Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z". It was a spin-off helmed by Keiji Inafune, as far as I remember, where you play as a revived ninja who was once killed by Ryu and is now out for revenge. It tried to be "cool" and "edgy", so it had lots of cursing and poor attempts at humour. Rather poor game, in all honesty.
@timp29 That's been on the Switch eShop for ages now.
I'd love a Classic Ninja Gaiden collection for sure - and not just the NES games and the SNES port - the Master System game (which is pretty great), the GameGear one... everything!
But I think it's actually much more likely for us to either get yet ANOTHER remaster/remake of the 2004 title or a brand-new Ninja Gaiden 4 (that Ragebound might potentially tie-in to).
I'd be damn happy if we do. The Master Collection on Switch was an absolute dream come true for me!
First thing they need to fix ASAP is the crashing bug that literally makes the game unplayable after you've finished it once. Spent 30 Euro on a game I can't even play...
That being said, some of the measures they've taken do sound great on paper and a lot of people on RangerBoard, who've already played the patched version say it's MILES better now. Shame that it had to release in a rather poor state that will absolutely affect the overall opinion of the game.
I hope they haven't made the dodge too technical in the higher difficulties - it was actually the best part of the beat 'em up segments. I also hope they make the Megazord battles playable on their own after beating them once - surprisingly, those punch-outs were probably my favourite part of the entire game.
With all the references in the game, I can't help but think if the final boss was a nod to the Daizyujin vs Dragon Caesar (Megazord vs Dragonzord) ping-pong battles in the Zyuranger Famicom game.
The game also has another huge problem that seems to be affecting people, me included - once you beat it, chances are your save might become corrupted and afterwards, every time you select a save slot or character or try to change the CRT filter, the game just crashes.
Happened to me after beating the campaign in a single sitting and the issue has affected all my save slots.
Reinstalling the game did not fix it. Apparently, a patch for the issue is already out on PS, but not on Switch...
While that gameplay does not necessarily feel like Ninja Gaiden (see that slight pause/recoil when you strike an enemy?) I am beyond thrilled to see a new entry in the franchise, as it's always been one of my favourites! I just hope it's a straightforward action game rather than a Metroidvania.
That story from the PR has me scratching my head though...
MINOR SPOILER FOR THE 3D GAMES!!!
While there were debates whether the X-Box game was a prequel to the NES ones or not, didn't that go out the window when they retroactively revealed Sonia was actually Irene (to the point of calling her that in Razor's Edge)? So, if Ryu's wearing his outfit from the 3D games here, does that mean that the story in those does eventually follow similar events to the NES games with some minor alterations or are we mixing the continuities again? Is his dad Joe or Ken? Or, then again, who cares, really? We're getting a new Ninja Gaiden game!!
As a hardcore Power Rangers fan and beat 'em up lover, I had VERY high hopes for this game and, sadly, I was kinda letdown in several regards.
Playing on Normal difficulty:
Pros:
Nice attention to details, cute references
Graphics are genuinely nice and I love the spritework on the Putties
Music is not necessarily PR-ish, but it is VERY reminiscent of the music for the SNES games, the first one especially
Scaler effects are terrific
Best dodge in any beat 'em up ever
Cons:
The game is definitely NOT properly balanced for a single-player experience. I fancy myself a pretty good gamer (I can no-death-run "Ninja Gaiden" and "Castlevania" type of gamer) and at certain moments I had a damn tough time keeping up with what the game throws at me (the Chunky Chicken + Turkey Jerk boss battle, for example is horrendous until you manage to beat one of them)
Absolute sensory overload at times during the Zord stages - there's just TOO MUCH going on to the point where I don't think it's humanly possible to follow it all.
The general way the Zord levels work is terrible. If I can continue from where I died during a Zord Boss, why can't I do it during the level itself (including mini-bosses)? There are insta-kills traps and near insta-kill enemy attacks. You'd think Pterodactyl could be considered the easy way out, but that zord doesn't have a dodge move...
There seems to be a lag (playing on Switch) when trying to perform the rising attack mid-combo. I thought it might be my joycons, but today I played with a pro controller and the issue's still there which makes me think bad programming. To make it work, you have to basically pause from pressing any buttons and then do "Up + Attack" - most of the time, trying to string it in from mid-combo just doesn't work.
Ultimately, I lost 7!!! continues during one of the zord stages (Eye Guy's) and will likely simply restart the game on Easy Mode because of that stage in particular (since apparently spending all your continues deletes your progress/makes your save unusable). While a lot of what's in here is really, really good, it's not "Shredder's Revenge" level of good by any means and I wish Digital Eclipse would've focused more on the core gameplay as opposed to cutesy stuff like unlockable arcade mini-games...
It's not a terrible game, by any means. I am (mostly) having great fun with it, but it needed to cook some more.
Regarding the price - I definitely regret getting it at the launch price, despite the 15% pre-order discount. The level of polish it should have for a 35-Euro game is simply not there. I'd have gladly paid double that if it played as well as "Streets of Rage 4" or "Shredder's Revenge"... but it doesn't.
It's Castlevania, so it's great it exists, but it comes from Materia and they do not deserve your hard-earned cash.
The sum per LP is actually pretty decent, but it's not a product that can cater even to most collectors of VGM on vinyl due to its sheer size and price. I was considering it briefly, but it Materia's terrible reputation with the "VGM on Vinyl" community quickly changed my mind. That, and the $600 shipping quote.
I just hope that this wasn't the reason for us not getting stand-alone LP releases for the DS games.
Generally, Castlevania's releases constantly coming from different companies (Mondo, Ship to Shore, Limited Run) has been kind of annoying...
While I seriously have my doubts this will actually be made, I hope it's in the vein of old-school ninja flicks. The closest we've ever had to those in more recent times are the Ninja duology with Scott Adkins from the early 2010s (and the second one is just spectacular when it comes to action!). Make it fun and over-the-top, like the games.
And, as someone said, they need to get Sho Kosugi for SOME role at the very least. Kane too
I got the physical editions of "Arcadia Bay Collection" and "True Colors" on Switch awhile back on deep discount. Haven't played through "True Colors" yet, but I really wasn't impressed with the original game or "Before the Storm" - while Chloe is a pretty decent protagonist, I pretty much hated 99% of the other characters and I thought the plot was super predictable (I could tell what the "huge plot twist" was 3 minutes into the game). Then there were the technical issues, which were exceptionally bad in "Before the Storm" with glitches galore.
Still, despite all my overall disappointment with those first two games, I am definitely considering picking this one up in hopes it's better in every way. Sometimes I'm just in the mood for these types of games and it'd be a good idea to have something like that lying around...
And I still need to get to "True Colours"at some point...
I hate the fact that LR cheaped out and the Classic Edition no longer comes with all 3 covers in the box, when the Advance collection did! I've been collecting the "Classic Editions" for these Konami Collections (and the retro Bloodstained titles), but no Shanoa cover might be a dealbreaker for me here...
Locking the 5-disc OST behind all that fluff is also a shame. I'm surprised that the GBA games of all things got vinyl releases, but none for these?!
Lightspeed Rescue on the GBC is terribly underrated in my opinion. So is Samurai on Wii - below-average graphics aside, the game is simple, but quite fun and using the motion controls as a Samuraizer was an amazing idea that worked really well!
All the GBA titles were pretty solid. Ninja Storm in particular did well by giving each Ranger group branching paths, despite them going through the same stages.
Super Legends on DS was sadly disappointing, especially those terrible overhead shooting stages. The 3DS games were also less than stellar, but I had some fun with them.
The first two SNES games are probably the best overall, along with Battle for the Grid which is an underrated fighting game.
I love how MMPR: The Movie on Gameboy incorporates more elements from the film than any other game based on it - Mordant, Zedd's movie design, the scrapped Rat Monsters and the Tenga Queen. Also, Ninjetti outfits and armored Ranger suits.
PR's had it way better than most franchises out there in all honesty.
I'd have definitely preferred a sprite-based game, but I have faith in Wayforward, so hopes are high for this one. Shame that the "physical" release is code-in-a-box.
I'm a Batman collector either way, so I'll get the physical once it hits a decent discount. Can't help but feel bad about Knight though - it's the only one I didn't get physically on PC back in the day and was the one I hadn't played.
I too, would've loved to see the two Origins games as well. Frankly, I enjoyed Arkham Origins more than I did City.
Still remember the excitement when Asylum released. Spent the entire night playing it on PC, 100% the story mode in a single go... wish I still had the time to do stuff like that
Nice to see some other franchises getting attention. Not sure how I feel about 3D Streets of Rage and Golden Axe, but that new Shinobi... wow, THAT can't come out soon enough!
Sad that "Rogue Corps" got an actual physical release, yet this won't... Hope that it's a good game at least. Not thrilled with the general art direction, but I have faith in Wayforward.
I definitely want to get it, but will wait for reviews to see how it performs. Plus, my local retailer will probably have it at a 10-20% discount by Christmas.
Still had they keep ignoring the Origins games. I actually quite liked the main one (and Blackgate wasn't bad either).
I pre-ordered the physical of this, as I'm a sucker for collections and am quite fond of the NES game and its soundtrack (and the Gameboy OSTs respectively).
As a kid, I'd got my hands on the NES game and didn't really enjoy it at first, but it quickly grew on me and I found myself coming back to it way more than I thought I would. At that point, I'd also played a pirate port of the SNES game to the NES (called "The Lost World: Jurassic Park"), which was pretty ambitious. I still have a map of the entire game me and my brother drew as we played it, with the locations of all the items and major dinos... good times.
Hopefully the issues the others are mentioning in the comments will be patched out.
Sad to hear this... I really fell in love with the show, watching it with my nieces, and was thinking of playing the game myself before gifting it to them... but maybe when it's on sale...
@Servbot_EJ I'd actually love it if there was a way for them to include a "fixed up" version of the Russian bootleg. I didn't have either of the games as a kid, but two different friends had lent me each of them. While the bootleg was rather janky, I remember the graphics being quite good and I was excited to play it, as I'd just seen the cartoon about Felix's goose on VHS a few weeks prior.
I was always kind of disappointed The Duke of Zill wasn't in either game though
The first one was fairly clunky, but the source material fits the genre so perfectly and I had a blast reliving Bud & Terence's adventures in video-game form.
Absolutely picking this up to get more of the same nostalgia kick and awesome tunes... but I will wait for an eventual sale.
Zero faith this will be any good, based on the previous show, which I found to be abysmal and downright insluting 99% of the time. "Castlevania" proper it was not. Including "Divine Bloodlines" is nice, but I doubt they'll rely on much music from the actual games. Either way, I love "Castlevania" and that's exactly why I'm skipping this. Might go watch 2004's "Van Helsing" instead.
A rather lovely edition! Got mine about a week ago and it's great. Decided to go for this one, as it pissed me off how the individual releases all came into different types of boxes and would look terrible on a shelf.
Too bad they didn't include X as well, but at least the individual release of that is still available at decent prices.
In a day and age where I rarely have time to play games anymore, let alone revisit 100+ hour ones, I spend a lot of time listening to game soundtracks, especially on the days I work from home. Looking forward to going through all 20 discs.
To the author of the pictures - I see your box got dented in shipping as well - Procyon are aware of a packaging issue with some of the batches that shipped first and are sending out replacement boxes. Contact them if you want one.
Stuff that should've been included from the get-go in the previous collections anyway... I got the first two physically and while I had a decent time with the first collection (still haven't opened up the second one), I think I'll probably pass on this. Such a shame this was handled so poorly.
I've had the NES one and MGS 1-3 sitting on my shelf for YEARS now...always wanting to play them with my best friend (who owns 4, 5 and Revengeance) like we marathoned Castlevania back in the day...never got around to it...but I am a sucker for collections so if this gets a physical release, the time might finally come.
@cmdrmarc Same. While I'm thrilled new content is on the way, the fact that now neither the physical release, NOR the physical soundtrack are complete really irks me...
I love Xenoblade, but...genuinely dislike Pyra and Mythra, so I'll probably pass on their figures (never got Shulk anyway, as I couldn't find him locally). Noah and Mio though...I'll probably go for.

Re: Review: Bluey: The Videogame (Switch) - Captures The Look, But Not The Family Magic
Sad to hear this... I really fell in love with the show, watching it with my nieces, and was thinking of playing the game myself before gifting it to them... but maybe when it's on sale...
Re: 'Felix The Cat' Konami Collection Surfaces On The ESRB
@Servbot_EJ I'd actually love it if there was a way for them to include a "fixed up" version of the Russian bootleg. I didn't have either of the games as a kid, but two different friends had lent me each of them. While the bootleg was rather janky, I remember the graphics being quite good and I was excited to play it, as I'd just seen the cartoon about Felix's goose on VHS a few weeks prior.
I was always kind of disappointed The Duke of Zill wasn't in either game though
Re: Exclusive: Gorgeous New 'Snufkin: Melody Of Moominvalley' Trailer Confirms Switch Release
I love Moomin, but I especially love Snuffkin! On to the Wishlist it goes!
Re: Classic Horror Beat 'Em Up 'Night Slashers' Is Coming Back To Life In An All-New Remake
Might be just me, but there's something rather unappealing about the graphics. I'll stick to the original. It's on Switch anyways.
Re: Nintendo Announces Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Event For Tetris 99
I... totally forgot about this... darn it. Hope they put it up again at some point...
Re: Star Wars Heritage Pack Is Getting A Physical Release, Includes 7 Games (North America)
Ooooh, I got Racer and Jedi Outcast digitally on sale awhile back, but 5 of the games being on cart is tempting. Might import this.
Re: Mini Review: Bud Spencer & Terence Hill - Slaps And Beans 2 - Basic Brawling But Fun For Fans
The first one was fairly clunky, but the source material fits the genre so perfectly and I had a blast reliving Bud & Terence's adventures in video-game form.
Absolutely picking this up to get more of the same nostalgia kick and awesome tunes... but I will wait for an eventual sale.
Re: Talking Point: Which Classic Cartoons Deserve The Shredder's Revenge Treatment?
Well, we can't say Power Rangers, since it's live action, so... Skysurfer Strike Force anyone?
Re: Castlevania: Nocturne Gets Main Trailer Ahead Of Netflix Launch This Month
Zero faith this will be any good, based on the previous show, which I found to be abysmal and downright insluting 99% of the time. "Castlevania" proper it was not. Including "Divine Bloodlines" is nice, but I doubt they'll rely on much music from the actual games. Either way, I love "Castlevania" and that's exactly why I'm skipping this. Might go watch 2004's "Van Helsing" instead.
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Collector's Edition Pre-Orders Are Available Again (EU)
CE is back in stock in Europe! Check your e-mails for access codes! Go, Go, Go!!
Re: Gallery: Here's A Look At The Gorgeous Xenoblade Chronicles Original Soundtrack Trinity Box
Re: Prison City, The 'Most Early '90s Game Ever', Is Coming To The Switch
Um...SOLD! Physical edition?
Re: Natsume's NES Side-Scroller Shadow Of The Ninja Is Getting A Remake On Switch
Part of me is like: "Hell yeah!"
Another part of me is like:
"This is sooo NOT the artstyle I'd imagine for this game..."
But knowing Natsume's track record with their remakes, it's probably gonna be great!
Re: Edia Crowdfunding Valis: The Fantasm Soldier Collection III For Nintendo Switch
Stuff that should've been included from the get-go in the previous collections anyway... I got the first two physically and while I had a decent time with the first collection (still haven't opened up the second one), I think I'll probably pass on this. Such a shame this was handled so poorly.
Re: Taito's Animal-Saving Beat 'Em Up 'Growl' Is This Week's Arcade Archives Game
I remember discovering this one for the first time in MAME back in the day. It's a good one!
Re: Poll: Which Dormant Nintendo Franchise Would You Most Like To See Return?
Hardly a franchise, but I think my profile makes it fairly obvious I'm dying for a new Mach Rider game
Re: Batman Arkham Trilogy For Switch Only Includes One Title On The Game Cartridge
Called it, but it was to be expected. At least City and Knight aren't dowload codes.
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 Is Coming To Switch This October
Re: TMNT: Shredder's Revenge Lands New Character, Game Mode And More In Upcoming DLC
@cmdrmarc Same. While I'm thrilled new content is on the way, the fact that now neither the physical release, NOR the physical soundtrack are complete really irks me...
Re: 8-Bit NES-Inspired Platformer 'Bat Boy' Is Part Shovel Knight, Part Mega Man
Well, Ninja Baseball Batman it ain't...but I'll take it
Re: Noah & Mio Xenoblade Chronicles 3 amiibo Announced, Pyra & Mythra Double Pack Launches July
I love Xenoblade, but...genuinely dislike Pyra and Mythra, so I'll probably pass on their figures (never got Shulk anyway, as I couldn't find him locally). Noah and Mio though...I'll probably go for.
Re: Surprise! Xenoblade Chronicles 3 "Final DLC" Launches On Switch Next Week
I do hope they do a physical release like Torna!
