Re: Review: Metagal - A Mega Man Clone That Comes With A Mega Problem

Mach_Rider

I think you're being waaaaaaaaay too harsh on the game. A 3? Seriously?!

I mean, it's not brilliant, it's a blatant rip-off of Megaman, but I don't really see a huge problem with that. The game's 4 bucks for God's sake, I highly doubt anybody's expecting a 10+ hour experience.

The level design, while somewhat boring, I wouldn't say is cheap. I'm at the last level and frankly, I haven't seen any of those supposed "leaps of faith".

And you know what the best part of the game is? It's EASY!! Like, stupid easy at times. Which is great, because much as I like Megaman gameplay, I'm not always in the mood for its difficulty.

Metagal might not be brilliant, but it fits perfectly with what I needed:

  • Cheap
  • Short
  • Competently made

In an age where games tend to get longer and longer, it's refreshing to be able to pick up something new that's simple and you can beat quickly. That's a plus in my book.

Yeah, I have the Megaman collections and 11 on Switch, but I don't regret getting Metagal either.

Re: Review: Power Rangers: Battle For The Grid - A Promising Fighter Undone By Publisher Greed

Mach_Rider

As a hardcore PR fan let me point this out - Battle for the Grid is not a bad game! While the backgrounds are rather bland, the character models are more than decent and the game plays FANTASTICALLY! I can't stress this enough! I'm amazed at how great the combat really is and that there's little-to-zero lag in online matches.

But with that being said, the roster size is PATHETIC! Had it been a 1v1 fighter, it would've been OK. But at 3v3, you end up fighting the same character 4 times in Arcade mode AND have them be a part of your roster.

We know of at least 2 more characters that should've been there at launch - Zeo Gold Ranger and White Mystic Ranger. But both them and the supposed Story Mode (written by the staff of the Boom! Studios comic) were promised at launch are missing.

It's a shame really...The game plays great, but is ruined by the fact that content is clearly missing and they expect us to dish out for it. Separate DLC character prices are 5.79 pounds...that's INSANE (and not in a good way). Had nWay not been as greedy and had they not rushed the game, it could've been an easy 8/10. But at this point, it's not.

I grabbed the CE and I'm gonna stick with it since a decent Power Rangers game is a tough thing to find these days (both 3DS Megaforce titles were below-average...Samurai on Wii and DS was pretty good, but that was Inti Creates). Hopefully, nWay will pick up the slack in terms of characters and stages and give us a robust roster like the one in Legacy Wars.

At this point, there's just not much to hold you over. Gameplay is great, yes, but the lack of stages and characters makes for a boring experience either way Here's hoping that the Season Pass will change that. There's still time for nWay to see the error of their ways and add more than the skins and 3 characters in the Season Pass.

Re: Nintendo Download: 28th March (North America)

Mach_Rider

@waluigifan1 So far only Megazord and Dragonzord are available as Specials - that is, you call them in during the Ranger fight and they stomp on your enemy or hit them with sword/tail, etc...

They're not playable in the traditional sense, unfortunately.

Re: Power Rangers: Battle For The Grid Arrives Next Week On Switch eShop

Mach_Rider

@justin233
Well, the show's been on the air non-stop, we got a relatively big-budget movie in 2017 and the comics by Boom Studios are getting wide praise. Hasbro just recently bought the entire friggin' franchise for a hefty sum too. But in all honesty, it's not just you. A lot of people have no idea PR is still a thing, sadly. It's just that us fans tend to take it a bit too personally when people say it's a dead franchise/brand. Triple A? Certianly not. Dead? Far from it.

As for the game, I got my code for the game AND artbook download early in the morning, but the eShop still won't let me use it as the game has a page, but isn't available for purchase yet.
Some people however say they also got a second code for the Pre-Order exclusive Green Ranger v2...which I don't have even though I did pre-order the game from the site.

Re: Power Rangers: Battle For The Grid Arrives Next Week On Switch eShop

Mach_Rider

The official site no longer states the digital artbook being included with the Switch, PC and PS4 versions of the game. It's now only being listed for the X-Box version.
People on Twitter who got the Switch version have said that their Artbook has arrived, but it seems that when I made my pre-order the listing was already altered...

I'd be seriously pissed off if nWay don't deliver on this. It's probably a friggin' PDF, it wouldn't cost them anything to send with all pre-orders, so why the change I wonder... No official response from them as of now.

Re: Power Rangers: Battle For The Grid Arrives Next Week On Switch eShop

Mach_Rider

YES!! I really hope it's good. We didn't get "Mega Battle" which rather pissed me off and it's been a while since we've had a genuinely good, if overly simple Power Rangers game (Samurai on Wii and DS).
This looks very MVC-ish, which is good!

The roster is rather small though...at least data miners found the renders for some of the upcoming characters - Gold Zeo Ranger and White Mystic Ranger, so those are good selections. Debating whether to get season pass or standard edition...

Re: Power Rangers: Battle For The Grid Is Being “Made From The Ground Up” For Consoles

Mach_Rider

I'd take this over MK11 any day as long as it's a competent game. I don't really need something overly technical - Street Fighter has me covered on that front.
But they have to bring in the Power Rangers goodness hard - Zord Battles, Villains, big roster (the 15 slots shown so far are not great, especially considering how many characters are in the mobile game), classic tunes (or heck, bring in Ron Wasserman to do some brand new ones!) and, hopefully, a physical edition.

It's been a while since we've had a Power Rangers game that was actually good - Samurai on the Wii. The 3DS titles were less than stellar and MMPR Mega Battle never arrived on a Nintendo system, so I've been dying for some good new PR action.

Re: Power Rangers: Battle For The Grid Morphs Classic Franchise Into A Fighting Game

Mach_Rider

@masterLEON Yes, they are. There's even an edition that has the cover in English. From what I've heard, as long as you set your system to "English" even the regular Japanese version will play with English text.

But unfortunately, Climax Scramble looks like a really bad game The only reason I'm still considering importing it is for the novelty of it. Also, supposedly it was just Heisei Riders, but Kamen Rider Black appears on the back cover as well.

Re: Power Rangers: Battle For The Grid Morphs Classic Franchise Into A Fighting Game

Mach_Rider

As a hardcore Power Rangers fan, I'm looking forward to this, much moreso than I am to MK11 (even if this is likely gonna be the worse game of the two). Yet, I'm already disappointed in quite a few aspects. First off, it looks way too much like the "Legacy Wars" mobile game. So far so that they had to state on Twitter that this is not a direct port and has new mechanics - which is good. I want a fighting game proper, not a rock-paper-scissors simulator. The roster seems rather small at 15, considering the mobile game has some 60 characters in it. And of course, I hope they don't skimp out on the Megazords.

It's been a while since we've had good Power Rangers games. The two 3DS titles were average at best (the zord battles were the highlights). The Samurai game on Wii and DS was pretty good, especially on Wii, but that was Inti Creates.

I was hoping we might get MMPR: Mega Battle as well, but I guess that ship has sailed.

As for people bringing up the SNES titles (and the Fighting Edition) - with Natsume reworking first Wild Guns and now Ninja Warriors, I can see it happening. They did a ton of good Power Rangers games up until the mid-2000s.

As for having the balls to be revealed during the MK11 reveal - the game was leaked prior to the official announcement, so I guess they tried to make the best of it.

Re: Video: Get A Closer Look At The Contra And Metal Slug-Inspired Blazing Chrome

Mach_Rider

I've been following this one since Day 1 - it looks and sounds amazing! Joymasher's previous games - Oniken and Odallus: The Dark Call are also not to be missed! While they are PC-only so far, Oniken feels like an old-school Natsume game and Odallus has heavy Castlevania tropes. Both are terrific!

They're also working on a ninja mech game in the vein of Hagane, Strider and Shinobi.

Re: Feature: Digital vs Physical - What Is Your Preference for Nintendo Switch?

Mach_Rider

Normally, I do physical, as I'm the type of person who likes "seeing" what he spends his money on - I like to have a cart, to put a box on my shelf, to read the back of a cover...
That's why I was so pleased with the Switch being region free - importing became an option.
However, for a lot of games, the eShop prices get really good and discounts happen much more often than they did on Wii U or 3DS.

So, for example, over here the physical edition of "Lego City: Undercover" costs 89.99 BGN, but instead, I picked it up on the eShop for 19.99 BGN.

Yes, there's the "Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle" which got an awesome collector's edition and a physical version over in Japan - I REALLY wanted to import it. But with some gold coins thrown in, I was able to get the digital version of 6 GBP, instead of the 30+ the physical would cost.

For other games, the physical edition came out after I'd already bought the game digitally - like Count Lucanor, WonderBoy or Shantae 4 - in those cases, I didn't double dip, as the price of admission was too much and I didn't think the games were worth double dipping. I did double dip for "Sonic Mania" though and imported the Japanese edition with the OST...

For the Megaman Collections the physical was not worth it to me, as in each set, at least one of the collections was digital-only anyway and there was a good sale on the eShop, which sealed the deal.

It's very similar to the Collector's Editions situation - I have to think about how much would this game mean to me, how much do I like the included stuff, in order to get a standard edition or a CE - for "Xenoblade Chronicles 2" I went for the CE, just like I did with X, as I had high expectations and thought the artbook and CD were worth it. For "Ys VIII" however, which is gonna be my first Ys, I went for the more basic "Adventurer's Edition", as I thought I could do without a letter opener and the CD alone wasn't worth the extra 40 pounds.

I'm kind of 50/50 in terms of the Switch - most of my stuff is physical, but if I don't care too much about the game or the price is much better, I choose digital.

Nothing too interesting, but I guess I'll finally pick up the Capcom Beat 'em Up Bundle and the Fairune Collection.

If anyone hasn't tried it - that's a pretty good price on Implosion too.

And I guess I might pick up Armikrog on the Wii U too - I've been wanting it for a while now and will give me a reason to boot up that system again as well. It's been a while...
