I didn’t realize this game was THIS heavy multiplayer to the point where it sounds like something like Overcooked almost. I’m wondering if there really even is a single player mode really.
I’m surprised to see Gavin mention the issue with the rail not holding the joycon as well anymore. I’ve been experiencing that issue but hadn’t really seen it mentioned elsewhere before. It’s frustrating, but I also figure 100’s of hours of gameplay will do that.
The Switch has been such a great machine as a whole and while I can’t wait for the Switch 2, I’ll miss my OLED too.
Honestly I’ve always been curious to try the Borderlands series but I still haven’t yet. Considering I haven’t played the other games though I guess I can’t be a “real fan” so Randy has advised me I shouldn’t buy this game either.
I came to the comments to ask the same thing. I’ve seen an August date multiple other places. This is the first time I’ve seen it showing the Switch 2 June 5th date. Is that incorrect?
“It may be more difficult to find hidden Joy-Con 2 in the minigame Joy-Con Hide & Seek."
Honestly having yet to play Everybody 1-2 Switch now this leaves me with a curious question:
1) Was the Hide & Seek Minigame already substantially easy to where this will be a welcome change?
Or
2) Was the Hide & Seek Minigame already generally hard enough where this will be an annoying change or one you have to work around by not hiding the joycon as well?
I’m glad this article reminded me Spark the Electric Jester came to Switch. I kept hearing about that series before it came to Switch and somehow this slipped past me. Onto the wishlist it goes!
I’m really amused right now. When you put out the article asking for recommendations the other day, I put in my recommendation for A Tiny Sticker Tale. I ALMOST also put in a recommendation for Fur Squadron too since I saw it didn’t have a review or anything but held off on doing so as it has been a while since I played Fur Squadron and it was no longer super fresh in my head.
Cue my surprise reading this article and seeing myself recommending Fur Squadron! I guess I must have put that in quite a while ago back when the game was fresher in my mind!
I’ve played both Pilotwings games since (the original on Wii U VC and 64 near N64 launch at a friends house) but never owned them. I do agree I enjoyed both though even if they wouldn’t have been able to be the “big hitter” for either system!
It is a true about the massive difference in launch lineups between the 3DS and Switch 2. I didn’t think until just now but it’s interesting for both SNES and N64, Pilowings was supposed to be a supplemental launch game to their big hitter but on 3DS it was supposed to be THE big one? Yeaaaaaaaah… I remember getting enjoyment out of it but only for so long and it was later when OOT and Mario 3D Land dropped that things really hit for me. Comparatively, I hadn’t even bothered to buy Pilotwings on SNES or N64 back in the day.
As someone who absolutely loved all the Dadish games, I wish listed this and will 100% be getting it though not right away since I feel the Dadish games all seem to go on very big sales pretty quickly.
Based on the trailer this definitely gives the Dadish vibes and it seems to have both the simple but fun platforming and the cute humor intact.
Considering these weren’t even optimized on their original release, I feel doubtful they are now either but I get this is the PR speak they’re sharing.
It was unfortunate too when A New Beginning was great.
@KingMike That’s true for the time period and I definitely feel there were a lot of very average 3D platformers on PS1 at the time. The Spyro games were really great though.
I replayed Enter the Gecko and Gex 3 on PSP a few years ago. They’re… okay. If you’ve never played them and love 3D platformers they could be worth a go but to me both when I first played them and when I replayed them they really just felt like the most just average 3D Platformers
This was my least favorite game I owned on N64. Admittedly I also only could ever get a handful of levels in. I’m not sure if it was super hard or I was missing something considering I owned a ton of other N64 platformers back then that I could 100% with no issue.
Part of me is almost curious to revisit it but I’m not sure I’d enjoy it.
If the 3DS port didn’t exist I probably would get this (since I barely played on the Wii before getting the 3DS port and it was nice to have it portable) but currently it’s a really hard sell.
Honestly they would have been better off just saying it was coming and not admitting they didn’t “forget” but rather INTENTIONALLY decided to release a complete product.
Glad they said they’re “eventually” complete the game thoug. Similarly I didn’t “forget” the game exists and I might “eventually” have an interest in it too.
I’d never heard of Rastan Saga before but it looks a lot to me like Volgarr the Viking to where I’m not wondering if this was an influence for Volgarr.
I’m really glad to see the Switch version got a great review! I’ve been revisiting Sonic games lately and was determined to get this either way (having put it on a list for my birthday) but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was concerned about the Switch version in particular when Sega didn’t give advance review copies.
@Ogbert I could only fit so much in what I submitted for .Stitch but I agree with you it’s very easy but I will admit it does at least get SLIGHTLY harder on Mystery Master mode. You unlock that mode once you complete all the possible puzzles (you DON’T have to have all “locked” puzzles beaten though like weekly puzzles, rank puzzles, daily completion puzzles though).
Mystery Master mode basically replaces a random one of the numbers in each stitch in a level with a question mark. It basically then requires you to leave that one for last since you won’t otherwise know how many pieces it requires (unless you want to do the math for it). It’s STILL not very tough but it’s something.
I’m almost surprised to see I was the only one who recommended .Stitch but I’m glad to see it’s winning the poll (well, tied for winning with Hogwarts Legacy which I’m honestly shocked to find out wasn’t reviewed).
Stitch. really is such a cute and great game that doesn’t get enough attention. I’m STILL working my way through Mystery Master mode!
Also glad to see Dadish 3D get a shout out. I didn’t give it a shoutout myself since it’s unfortunately still sitting in my backlog but I loved Dadish 1 through 3 and previously gave those a shoutout in a different one of these articles!
I was doing the weekly challenges each week but last week managed to get my final few pins and S ranked all challenges. I’m not sure I really feel there’s much to return to the weekly challenges for at this point.
I might actually try this a bit more now. I tried it only once early on and it bugged me how my phone had to be on the whole night so I never tried it again. This should have been there from the start.
This is really disappointing. The game has looked great. I figured anyways I was going to wait for a sale with this releasing so close to Zelda but at this point I would definitely wait for a sale AND a significant patch or two.
This would be really nice but I also still remember the datamining that showed comparability with the N64 transfer pack and we still haven’t seen that so we could unfortunately be waiting a really long time for this if it does happen.
It looks cute. Hopefully it’s cheap, for just 1 hour of gameplay I wouldn’t pay too much but I have played some great short cheap games on switch and this looks like it could be one.
I’m really surprised and confused N64 is winning unless it’s just a nostalgia thing. It always seemed weird and annoying that they don’t have the game name on top especially when the SNES, just the previous generation, did have the game names on top.
I was having trouble choosing between the SNES or GBC carts since the SNES carts are perfect for function and organization but the GBC carts are just cool.
I forgot this was coming out this soon. I’m definitely curious to see the review. I only ever played the demo of one of the previous games on 3DS and it wasn’t bad.
I really hope they make a SNES version. I’m enjoying this and would give it a 7 but it really does feel a bit repetitive after the two NES Remix games. The SNES was also really more of my childhood and I have so much nostalgia for it.
I loved it as a kid and since it’s on NSO, I could revisit it whenever I want. I really don’t think it’s going to work well nowadays though because I’ve been finding that to be the case with any of the other N64 shooters that I’ve tried to revisit on NSO. I might be better off with just my memories.
I was really surprised to hear a song in the second end of the trailer that I KNEW was definitely from FLCL. Seeing “The Pillows” in the notes at the end of the trailer solidified it. That was a nice blast from the past. I’ll have to give the demo of this a shot.
Thank you so much for the explanation! This sounds VERY up my alley then and I’ll be keep an eye on it.
I was originally a bit worried from the article stating “the game falls squarely in the cosy farm-sim genre” but from how you describe it Moonstone Island it sounds so much more like a Deckbuilder / Pokemon-like with some light farming on the side.
It looks REALLY cute and I’m a big fan of Pokemon-likes and the monster designs also look cute here. At the same time I’m seeing a lot about the Farm Sim side of things and as much as I’ve tried I really struggle to get into farming sims.
How central is the farm sim gameplay to this? I had really enjoyed Garden Story which was really cute and had very, very basic gardening that was never too important to get super involved in.
I was really enjoying this game but then got stuck under the map and couldn’t get out. I heard about this patch coming so I held off instead of restarting my file since I was pretty far in.
I don’t know why I could have sworn Kirby’s Adventure had angry Kirby box art but I just looked it up and I must have imagined it since I can’t find anything. I guess it must be like you’re saying then.
This is a nice surprise! I’ve loved this series and always found it pretty underrated. I even previously submitted Dadish for one of your “Missed Games” articles.
I think a Wonder 2 would be great in the same vein that Galaxy 2 was. Explaining on the ideas of the original and putting in things that may have gotten cut from the first game.
I don’t think Wonder needs to become a whole overdone series like New did though.
Maybe I’m just getting old but between this and Krimson I really can’t understand this new trend of games that are physically hard to look at. This is not AS hard as Krimson but still.
Also on that note, thank you so much to Alex for the warning on the YouTube video just before Krimson.
I’ve been getting very into the more intensive Marvel and Mario sets lately (like the Bowser and ? Block) but these are look pretty basic by comparison. I’m not sure any of these catch my interest but if they make any more intensive Animal Crossing sets I’d be interested. I’m not sure what that would necessarily be though since there’s not really any massive buildings in AC, especially nowadays where Nook’s Cranny didn’t upgrade as much in New Horizons.
