Re: Review: The Longest Five Minutes (Switch)

KoiTenchi

This reminds me of Half-Minute Hero which I enjoyed a lot on PSP (and I believe was made my the same team).

That being said, the price here is kind of absurd so this has just worked its way onto my “keep an eye out for a sale” list.

Re: Nintendo Download: 1st February (North America)

KoiTenchi

@Not_Soos

I was actually going to say the same thing. Not only has the subheading gotten a lot less enthusiastic but the descriptions feel less enthusiastic too. Every game that already has a review just shows a hyperlink saying “Read our Review” as opposed to the old style of varying comments such as “we very much liked this game in our review” or “See how we felt about it in our review”.

The whole thing just feels like it has less personality in general. I mean, I can’t complain too much because all the important info is still there and it’s just as easily digestible as ever (and I started reading these to begin with because they were much cleaner to read than Nintendo’s eshop press release) but something just feels off somehow. I’m not sure if it is a different writer or not.

While I’m on the topic, I also truly miss the old days when these topics would also cover all the new games that are on sale but my understanding is that Nintendo made you stop doing that? I never fully understood why (when you did that I felt it helped bring more attention to those games then they would have gotten) but if you were required to stop, I understand why you did.

I don’t mean to sound like i’m Just complaining since I continue to find this topics very helpful but I just wanted to add my feels on this especially when I saw I wasn’t alone.

Re: Amazon Launches Pokémon Channel For TV Shows And Movies

KoiTenchi

@therealgamer That’s adorable that you don’t realize I already have a massive Switch catalog that’s going to last me at least several months.

I guess I do feel bad for some of those gamers on the other consoles though who apparently have so little to play right now that they have nothing to do except troll the Nintendolife comments while they wait for Dragonball FighterZ and Monster Hunter World to come out. Here’s to hoping to more games for those gamers in the near future!

Re: Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion Is Sailing Onto Switch in Spring 2018

KoiTenchi

I totally agree with the people saying the first AT game was by far the best. Yes, It was short, yes, it was easy, but most importantly to me it was fun. I remember playing through it twice and thoroughly enjoying both playthroughs.

Then the second game, Explore the Dungeon, just... it bored me so much I never really got much of anywhere in it. And that was trying to play through with a friend. I can’t even imagine how much more boring it would be attempting to play through it alone.

The third game, Nameless Kingdom, though still not nearly as good as the first game was a big step up from the second game. There was definitely some fun to be had but it felt consistently glitchy and slow. I beat it but I felt like I was forcing myself to beat it at points. That’s still a lot more than I could say for the second game.

I can’t speak for the fourth game (investigations) since after feeling like I outright wasted my money with the second game and feeling let down by the third game, I didn’t rush out and purchase this. I was considering getting it on sale but by he time some sales hit I was finding myself much more interested in other games.

All things considered, I still would love a great AT game again and will keep an eye on this to see how it turns out.

For those in the comments asking about the other AT games though, the only one I would truly recommend is the 1st.

(Edit: I didn’t think this would be nearly as long as it ended up being but hopefully it helps someone. I’ve just always been a big AT fan and big Nintendo fan so I have a lot of thoughts on the game series.)

Re: Yooka-Laylee's Nintendo Switch eShop Price Is Revealed

KoiTenchi

Honestly if this came came out months ago that price might have been relevant (and I would have been okay with it) but they really waited to release this at such a poor time that the price is pretty irrelevant to me. I’m still finishing up Odyssey and then am going to start Xenoblade Chronicles 2 so by the time I would be ready and interested to buy and play this I get the feeling it’ll be on sale anyways.

Re: Playtonic Games is Working on Unity Issues for Yooka-Laylee on Switch

KoiTenchi

I was really excited for this when it was first announced but the Switch has been having an amazing year (that just keeps getting stronger with Odyssey, Xenoblade 2 and some great indies on the horizon) that I feel like at best I'd be waiting for this to go on sale considering it seems like it'll release in the craziness of everything else.

Re: Volgarr The Viking Hacks And Slashes His Way To Switch And Wii U In October

KoiTenchi

I'm kind of surprised to see all the negative experiences with this game but at the same time I guess I kind of get it.

My only experience with this game was at a party at a friend's house a year or two back and we were playing some Xbox One swapping before a few games before they broke this one out. There were actually two Xbox Ones since there were a lot of us and a bunch of people were playing Halo on the other while the rest of were taking turns on this. No one could beat the first level. I'm not very comfortable with an Xbox controller since I don't have an Xbox but I love old school games so I decided to try it. I died a LOT but in the end started getting further than anyone else. I actually beat the first level (and maybe even second?) and before I knew it everyone, even the guys originally gaming on the other Xbox, were watching and cheering me on. It was a great experience.

Honestly the game is hard as nails but I'm not sure the last time I felt that accomplished for beating a level in the game. I'm thinking of picking this up for Switch even though it won't be the same without a whole crowd.

Re: Nintendo Download: 9th March (North America)

KoiTenchi

Oh man! Please excuse me in advance for your collective frown but Bomberman 64 is the bomb! That was the game that really got me into the series. I'll have to try R at some point but I'm so glad to see that game has not been forgotten.

(While I have you groaning, I would like to also mention that I have heard from a reliable source that Blaster Master Zero is a "blast".)

Re: Video: Super Retro Boy Hands-On Reveals Neat Form Factor, Lack Of Rear Shoulder Buttons

KoiTenchi

@PlywoodStick oh whoops. I see that now. You two even mentioned the specific aspect ratio.

I'm surprised there aren't even more people mentioning it. I honestly don't even understand how Retro Bit would let this out the door with the screen cut off for all GBA games. I've got to imagine some games must be unbeatable if you don't know them very wel already because of things you can't see.

Re: Mass Effect Producer Says There's No Plan to Bring Mass Effect Andromeda to Switch

KoiTenchi

Honestly, the real issue last time wasn't that the Wii U didn't have the first two games when they released Mass Effect 3 on it but that Mass Effect 3 was coming out on Wii U AT FULL PRICE at the SAME TIME that the other systems were all getting a Trilogy Pack release. That whole thing really stunk of "let's take advantage of Wii U gamers" and then the company started complaining as soon as Wii U gamers caught on and decided, surprise surprise, they didn't want to be taken advantage of.

It was a shame because I hear so many great things about the series and was really interested to try it but then lost all interest in getting it on Wii U when I saw what they were trying to do. Even then I was considering buying it when it hit the bargain bin for a 3rd of the price or less to give it a chance but by the time that started really happening I had already amassed quite a bit of a Wii U backlog and lost a lot of interest.

Honestly, I truly believe they could have built a very successful market for themselves on Nintendo consoles if they actually attempted to do so last gen instead of half assing something just so they could say "we tried" when they really didn't.

Re: The First Pokémon Sun and Moon 'Global Mission' Was a Bit of a Flop

KoiTenchi

"generally looks on track to be another monster hit for The Pokémon Company"

I see what you did there.

Anyways, I have to repeat a lot of other people here. I personally did sign up for and take part in the event but I only even found out it was a thing that existed from a friend of mine posting about it on Facebook, otherwise I never would have even heard of it. The game doesn't do a great job explaining it. And then once I did find out, the sign up process was needlessly annoying.

Re: Video: Check Out Mario & Wario, The Japan-Only SNES Mouse Game

KoiTenchi

Somehow I heard about this game when I was a kid and didn't know it was Japan Only so I very distinctly remember going to a number of different video game stores with my family asking if anyone had it only to be disappointed.

I've still never actually gotten to play it and have no idea if it's any good. I'll have to actually play it someday even if just to fulfill that childhood dream.

Re: Tomonobu Itagaki on Why Devil's Third Underperformed

KoiTenchi

I never got around to playing this game but I remember reading some of the drama around the release. Based on this interview though, I feel like the game creator is literally a little kid and it's hard to even take him seriously. He's trying to blame everyone but himself for the commercial failure of his game. Clearly it couldn't have anything to do with the game he created, clearly it's the fault of everyone else.

And then he actually complains NOA didn't change or rig reviews for him? And we're supposed to feel bad for him?

I mean, NOA is absolutely not perfect and I've gotten annoyed at them for somethings but I'm actually quite glad to hear they don't just massively rig reviews for complaining developers.

Re: Fairune 2 Releases in North America on 20th October

KoiTenchi

I enjoyed the first and would definitely buy this at the right price.

I always kind of felt the first Fairune sort of seemed like it was a full game and world that was built off of the comparative "demo" of Witch and Hero. Considering both games were made by the same company, I'm not truly convinced that wasn't what they actually did.

Re: Review: Yo-kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits & Fleshy Souls (3DS)

KoiTenchi

@RealPoketendoNL

I really have to echo this sentiment.

I played the demo of the first game when that came out and I really didn't like the battle system but found myself really enjoying the characters and worlds. I wanted to love the game but I just couldn't do it. I actually enjoyed the world enough that I started watching some episodes of the show though.

Once the demo of the second game came out, I gave it a try and unfortunately felt the same way again. That battle system does nothing for me but I just love the world and concept and all.

Re: Nintendo Issues Takedown Notices for Impressive Fan-Made Metroid II Remake, AM2R

KoiTenchi

@Marce2240 you seem to be one of the few who has a general understanding of copyright law while everyone else is lashing out in anger.

Nintendo is required to protect their copyright if they want to be able to maintain that copyright.

I get the feeling Nintendo knew the game was coming out but decided to think of the fans and allow the game to be released so that the fans could enjoy it (knowing then it would always be out there for those who really looked) while still doing what they legally needed to do to protect their copyright.

If they really wanted to they could have just screwed over the fans and stopped this way before they could ever even get their hands on it but they didn't.

Re: Nintendo Download: 16th June (North America)

KoiTenchi

I remember reading Japan had Mega Man 7 on 3DS VC a while back and got really excited and was wondering when it would come here. This was an awesome surprise today since I thought it would still be quite a while!

And Rhythm Heaven was an awesome surprised yesterday! I thought that game was still a month or two away.

Awesome surprises all around and I haven't felt that way for a Eshop update in a long time.

Re: SurveyMonkey Intelligence Breaks Down the Declining Usage of Miitomo

KoiTenchi

I don't want to be a "Negative Nancy" but honestly I'm not surprised and have found these results reflect my own personal experience.

Originally a few friends talked me into downloading Miitomo (I had pre-registered for coins but wasn't sure how to feel about it). I had about 6-7 friends using it and found it interesting to do the questions/answers but it started to get more and more slow and more repetitive with the questions. I started to find I would only continue to check/use it for the My Nintendo coins and at this point only one other friend of mine still uses it.

At this point I'm now having a hard time using it just for the My Nintendo coins since they really don't even have that many interesting rewards so I'm not even sure what I'm saving up for. I already got Twilight Princess Picross and the Mario 3DS theme. They need to put up more/new rewards.

Re: Random: Store Shelves Appear To Be Filling With Pre-Owned Copies Of Star Fox Zero

KoiTenchi

...is no one else old enough to remember when this same thing happened (maybe to a slightly lesser degree admittedly) with Star Fox 64? I remember it was going for pretty cheap back in the N64 days since there were so many used copies.

People would play through the game once and trade it in, not bothering with medals, alternate paths or other extras. That's what happens with Star Fox games since the "initial playthrough" can be beaten within hours.

I'll admit this wasn't as well documented with 64 since the Internet wasn't what it was today but I would think people who were gaming back then would have realized this since the copies were everywhere.

Re: Review: Super Meat Boy (Wii U eShop)

KoiTenchi

Does anyone know if this has Off-TV play?

I saw the part in the review about "no unique gamepad elements" but I wasn't sure if they were talking more about no separate stuff on the gamepad and no touch screen or if the gamepad is literally just blank during the game.

It's always a bonus for me with Wii U games in general if they have Off-TV play.

Re: Amazon Now Offering Nintendo Games For Direct Digital Download

KoiTenchi

@ledreppe and all I'm saying is:

"All Amazon is doing here is offering more options which is great since some people prefer digital over physical. I hardly see how offering more options means Amazon is "going to the dogs" unless that suddenly means something positive nowadays. I can't keep up with slang anymore."

If you don't want it, don't buy it but some people prefer options.

Re: Amazon Now Offering Nintendo Games For Direct Digital Download

KoiTenchi

@ledreppe Amazon has always had games available physical. The physical games will continue to be available.

All Amazon is doing here is offering more options which is great since some people prefer digital over physical. I hardly see how offering more options means Amazon is "going to the dogs" unless that suddenly means something positive nowadays. I can't keep up with slang anymore.

Re: Take a Look at the New 'Green Blob' Pokémon

KoiTenchi

@BlatantlyHeroic Honestly, the whole "there are too many Pokemon" thing is silly to begin with because they haven't been actively advertising "Catch 'em All" in a long time (and I could be wrong but I don't believe they EVER did in Japan).

There is literally nothing stopping a person from just using what they want and more Pokemon = more options.
