@BongoBongo123 I didn't finish 1/2 Genie Hero. Wasn't bad, but it's much more of a traditional platformer than a Metroidvania (Get to the end of the level, rather than explore and complete objectives). Seven Sirens was much more of a Metroidvania than 1/2 Genie Hero, and I enjoyed finishing that one. Haven't gotten to Risky Revolution yet but it's on my list.
I'm not sure how its difficult to add a video player app to a device. I'm not a developer but I wonder if Nintendo purposely made it harder because of their "We don't want this to just be a streaming device" mentality from Switch 1.
I was fully onboard with it being Pikmin until I saw Kit and Krysta's speculation video that this could be tied to the Mario movie. Since NY Comic-Con is later this week, it could be a tease for something related to that. I'm not saying 100% that it isn't Pikmin but I think a teaser to generate hype before NYCC makes a lot of sense.
I don't understand why Square Enix is so afraid of including their added content from their re-releases in the "Definitive" versions. It was the same issue with the Pixel Remasters. My only guess is that they maybe want to hold off to sell the games AGAIN with the content included, but still, it just seems so annoying that they couldn't include it this time.
@Lizuka Mostly Spinoffs, the main series was never that frequent. However, I concede I do have had some bias towards Fire Emblem since I feel that Nintendo leans on it a bit as their Fantasy RPG series, and I am really hoping Golden Sun gets another chance. It's obviously not how it works, but I was young and irrational. In any case, I'm just happy that others are happy.
@Lizuka I mean from 2015 to 2019 there was a game every two years, plus multiple spinoffs. I don't think any other Nintendo franchise has ever had a release schedule that frequent.
I'm probably not going to buy this accessory but if a cheap third party version drops that I can use just to try it comes out, maybe I'll give it a go.
I accept that it's been a while since we last got a Fire Emblem game but there were so many coming out so rapidly for a few years there that my first reaction was "UGH". I'm happy for the fans of the series but I hope Nintendo doesn't ride the spinoff train into the ground this go around.
@Anachronism I'm not sure if something is lost in the translation there, but what is described here vs. what Nintendo usually puts out doesn't match up. I'm sure they let anyone pitch ideas, but I don't think they put everything in. While I have lots of criticism of modern Nintendo games, feature creep is not one of them.
As always, my wild card is SOMETHING related to Golden Sun. On a more possible note, I'd love to see Baldur's Gate 3 on Switch. On a likely note, I'd like to see a release date for Metroid Prime 4
And for Mario, Mario Galaxy 2 and/or Double Dash on Switch 2 would be great.
At this point, every other developer and publisher in the world should be rallying behind Palworld and defending game designs as unpatentable or they are going to be next on the Nintendo's target list.
I hope I'm wrong but I'm worried this is coming out too close to Mario Kart World. I know these are very different games based on the direct, but will the average person know that? On top of that, you're gonna cut into Mario Kart's online player base and split the online community. I hope I'm wrong and I wish nothing but success for Sakurai.
I'm wondering if Nintendo DOES know this but doesn't have enough games to release before Christmas and had to put this out to fill the calendar.
Look, games can be both, but I feel like Miyamoto's viewpoint here is skewed. He always feels the need to innovate on a game's sequel even if it's not necessary. When that happens, you get games like Star Fox Zero. There was nothing wrong with the previous Star Fox games but he refused to work on a new one unless he could do something different.
Art doesn't necessarily have to push the medium forward. Art exists to be enjoyed.
My big 3 outside of new maps and new characters/costumes are:
-More Battle Mode Options - Nintendo seems to try SO HARD to make battle mode not a thing. I don't understand why they keep removing the things that make it fun. Bring back smaller maps, and modes like Renegade Roundup.
-Make free roam more interesting - Typically you drive around, find a challenge, complete it, and never come back again. It'd be cool if there were events that happen across the map that force you to go back to areas you've already completed.
-Map Markers - LET ME MARK THINGS DOWN SO I KNOW TO COME BACK TO THEM
I don't even need a full remake, just clean up the graphics, remove tetramaster (maybe replace it with Triple Triad), and give me an option to skip the long before battle cutscenes, and I'll give you my damn money.
Everyone in this comment section is like "Easy fix, we boycott EA." Problem is, we are not the audience they make their money from. It's the people buying Madden/FIFA every year, the people buying every Sims expansion, and most importantly everyone buying cosmetics in live service games.
If you could get all of them to stop buying into EA, then sure, it could work.
@MysteriousMudkip I just looked that up but it looks like it just added the modifications that were added in the console versions of Pixel Remasters (font choice, music choice, boosts, etc.)
This is the pixel remasters all over again. Why is Square so afraid of including extra content? I'd say it's so they can charge it for DLC later but they haven't done that yet with the PR games so I don't know.
For the $50 extra USD I paid to get it bundled with my Switch, it's fine but I wish there was a BIT more. If I had paid $80 for this separately? I'd be pissed.
Someone needs to update the disclaimer on this article because it says that the article only includes mainline 2d and 3d platformers, but clearly that's changed.
