No. If anything I've been more into Switch than ever.
This is thanks to my Switch OLED being chipped so I can run the overclocking suite, as well as undervolting to extend battery life. It's really only worth doing if you've got a Mariko chip NSW (and preferably OLED because it gets the best battery life) since all that extra power that was designated to battery life by underclocking can be designated to power instead. So when I say overclocking it's technically true, but at the same time, it's really not because the system is drastically underclocked- we're just increasing performance back to the original clocks the chip was rated for in the first place.
And don't get me started on RAM. Handheld clock 1331 Mhz and Docked 1600 Mhz. Most RAM in NSW units are actually rated much higher (they vary from 2500 Mhz to 3100 Mhz). The additional power draw to increase RAM to JEDEC spec of 2133 Mhz is peanuts. And even increasing to 1800 Mhz sees 10-15% performance gains in games like Crash Bandicoot. Increasing to 2133 Mhz solves a TON of framerate issues in games, just from increasing the RAM. I was running at 2400 Mhz but the additional gains beyond 2133 MHz aren't very noticeable, so it's not worth the additional power draw imo.
Best feature though, which goes hand in hand with OC, is the ability to output the docked image while in handheld mode. Now think about that for a sec. Do you realize how many games there are on the system which run at 720p in docked mode? Games where the max handheld res is 540p? Overclocking is amazing- it can take that 540p image and ensure there are no dynamic resolution drops below that, while ensuring performance doesn't drop a single frame. And that's great, buuuut...
By outputting docked image in handheld mode, suddenly EVERY SINGLE SWITCH GAME now runs at 720p in handheld mode, PLUS the added graphical fidelity docked output often exhibits, like sharper shadows and longer draw distances, etc. And in many cases I can get a locked 60fps as well, EVEN WHEN THE GAME HAS SET A HARD FRAMERATE CAP AT 30fps, thanks to this nifty FPS override feature. Persona 5 Royal, for example. It's 540p handheld locked at 30fps. I play with 720p docked image and override the frame cap to hold a rock solid 60fps.
Or take Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I play in super crisp 720p and never see a single frame drop below 30. It suddenly transforms a game that's a drag to play portably on Switch, and makes it an absolute delight to experience.
NSW2 will offer the "overclocking" benefits, so all NSW1 games will at least hold their max dynamic resolution target and won't have any framerate issues. But it's a massive disappointment Nintendo decided against outputting the docked image regardless of whether the game is being played on the tv or in handheld mode. Not only would it make every NSW1 game suddenly look actually good in handheld mode, it would even reduce workload for Nintendo since they'd only need to test 1 mode of play for BC. I just don't understand why they wouldn't have chosen to do this. But, that's why I've got my chipped OLED. Best $100 I ever spent.
Of course. Why wouldn’t I be? Party chat is in essential feature makes playing video games with others so much more enjoyable because it removes the barrier of entry that prevents most people from communicating. for all the talk about Discord the fact is most people just don’t bother setting up an account and getting the friend they’re playing games with to do the same and then actually use it when they’re playing together or use it when they’re playing different games together but want to still talk.
Having a native, system level solution which allows friends to communicate, and not just when playing the same game, but even when playing different games, is absolutely huge.
And I know the names of every single person on this site who has complained about Nintendo consoles not having native voice chat, so if I see any of them now claiming they don’t care about it after they just spent the last 10 years whining it wasn’t a feature, I’m gonna be dropping names.
This is why a platform being extremely successful is so important. Because developers simply cannot ignore the fact Switch has sold over 150 million units, and currently has 128 million active players. That means there are more currently active players on the Nintendo Switch platform then there are PS4 systems sold in totality.
The other factor that is extremely important is having hardware that’s actually capable enough for developers to port their games over in the first place, and without severely degrading their vision.
Switch 2 is going to be THE platform of the generation moving forward. Developers aren’t any different than we are as gamers. They have two eyes just like we do. They see how bad ass the system is. There’s a reason so many people are absolutely bonkers in love with the Switch 2 already. It’s the concept of the original Switch perfected. I would even dare say it’s the perfect video game console. If you asked me what my idea of a perfect video game console is, the Nintendo Switch 2 would be exactly that.
So ya. Of course Expedition 33 is going to get brought over. Grand Theft Auto VI will also get a Switch 2 port. I can’t say when- The absolute soonest would be alongside the PC release, but it may even be after that. But it’s definitely coming. Xbox’s floundering 30 million console sold and abysmal software sales for games released on the platform leaves Playstation to essentially do all the heavy lifting. And make no mistake. The PlayStation definitely holds it down and is a tremendous asset for the industry. But this is not the PS2 era anymore. There are only 75 million PS5’s in households around the world. That’s simply not enough to carry a game like GTAVI to the heights Rockstar will have their sights set on. PC release will be critical. But even then, that’s only really two viable platforms for the game to sell on. The reason the last entry sold so well is because it released across seven different platforms, spanning, three entire console generations going on 2 decades now.
If they want to sell more than 100 million units, They are absolutely going to need to leverage the Switch 2 consumer base, which should be pushing 40 million units by the time the game actually releases on the system. And of course it will only continue to sell as the years go on, as Switch 2 eventually smashes the 100 million unit barrier and beyond.
And there it is! The only version worth playing now.
@VoidofLight The standard of being tethered to a tv. With Switch 2 you get a full current Gen quality console version, a full current Gen quality handheld version, multiple control options from standard pro controller with rear grip buttons to split joycon to potential mouse integration… And the ability to prop it on its kickstand, detach controllers and have a little mini home console experience anywhere.
I mean, if you’d rather keep the $2 (or $10) by all means enjoy. But personally, I find Switch 2 games could be priced double that of other versions and they’d still offer more entertainment value.
My only concern is how to move (left analog), aim (mouse) and turn camera (???). Aha! Perhaps map the GL/GR to pan left and right. That's it! That's the solution!
Preordered digitally on Switch and got the English Asian version on lock from Play-Asia. I'll be so glad when Switch games stop releasing and it's only Switch 2. I'm so close to finishing my physical Switch collection so I can hang up the hat and go 100% digital.
But Stories is also great! I'd say start with MH Stories 2 but the unlocked framerate on Switch causes some stuttering in certain areas. It's by no means unplayable. And it's not sub-30fps dips so much as it's fluctuations dipping below 60fps, and again the issue is only really bothersome in one or two specific areas. But if you have a modchipped Switch OLED like I do you can overclock to iron the framerate out (I don't pirate- I strictly use it to undervolt and overclock and display the docked image in handheld mode so I'm always guaranteed 720p locked with 30fps or 60fps locked). Or you can just play it on Switch 2 which will lock framerate to 60fps automatically without any update (same thing my chipped Switch OLED does- more power = automatically fixing framerate and dynamic resolution dips).
MH Stories 1 looks and runs flawlessly but it's not as good as the 2nd. Still, it is good. Maybe play that one now and jump to Stories 2 when NSW2 releases. The games are so incredibly charming and endearing. The monsters are phenomenal. It's a bonus that I sunk 600 hrs into MH3U on Wii U, 400 hrs into MH4U on 3DS, 400 hrs into MH Generations on 3DS, 600 hrs into MHGU on Switch, 400 hrs into MH World on PS4, and 800 hrs into MH Rise on Switch. I know all the monsters so getting to see them in a new artstyle and use them for turn based battles is an incredible payoff.
There's physical release for MH Stories 2, and a physical release for MH Stories 1 that's a combo pack including a download code for MH Stories 2 as a bonus. Just fyi.
@CJD87 By far this is the best MH-genre game that's not actually Monster Hunter. It puts Freedom Wars, Toukiden, Soul Sacrifice, God Eater, etc to shame.
My one issue is I don't like the monster designs. But that aside, it's really good. Like, impressively so.
BTW Wilds kinda sucks imo. I could give a 9 paragraph rant about it but I'll spare you. It also runs horribly on my Steamdeck OLED.
Greatsword was BOSS in Monster Hunter Rise + Sunbreak, wasn't it?!! That counter still gives me goosebumps 😍 Also, Bow. That weapon with gyro aiming in Rise using an armor set maxing out all bow skills... muah! I've never been a ranged user but bow in Rise is some of the best fun I've ever had.
PART 3 So much of the tedium has been removed from the series nowadays that it's a lot easier than it used to be. There are countless materials like plants you pick when out on quests and ore you mine, bugs you capture and fish you reel in... and you combine them to make all sorts of various things like potions (used to be green herbs + blue mushrooms but now it's just green herbs, and Rise now offers auto-crafting where you can toggle on things you want the game to automatically craft for you when you have the ingredients, so for potions it'll automatically convert green herbs into potions for you), mega-potions (potion + honey), shock traps, pitfall traps, tranquilizer bombs, flash bombs, small and large barrel bombs, immunizer, antidotes, herbal medicine, etc.
If you can find a friend who is already into the series and is willing to play with you and show you the ropes to help get you into the series you will have the best time of your life. And it makes such a huge difference when you have a friend who can help walk you through understanding parts of the game that you otherwise would have had to Google or learn from trial and error. There are a lot of people here on the forums who I'm sure would be happy to hunt with you by slapping on some low rank armor (so they don't kill the monster in 3 minutes for you lol).
PART 2 Weapons feeling "slow and clunky" is one of the most common complaints you'll hear. Because when you don't know what you're doing and you're just mashing buttons with no particular order the attacks are slow and clunky. But when you know the right sequence of attacks to use to chain them together in combos and then Loop the combos together combat is fast and fluid. It's so incredibly rewarding because when you do make a mistake you're penalized by an animation pause before you can attempt the next attack. The game is all about managing animation frames. It's not Devil May Cry. When you swing your sword there will be a wind up. So you must anticipate your opening and predict where the monster will be by the time your sword actually swings to land the hit properly.
Granted, there are 14 weapons and each plays so differently it's like experiencing 14 different games. Many people will switch weapons and replay the entire game because it genuinely feels that different of an experience. Newbies shouldn't use weapons like Great Sword because it's the slowest weapon in the game, which means you really need to know the monsters like the back of your hand in order to predict openings to land attacks. Ranged weapons also aren't good for beginners. But Dual Blades, the fastest weapon which DOES make it feel like DMC, I think those should also be avoided by beginners because they develop bad habits for the player.
You really need to learn how to manage animation frames so I think a good weapon for beginners is something like the Long Sword, the Hunting Horn (for Rise specifically- it's way faster in this game) or Sword and Shield. The most complicated are Switch Axe, Charge Blade and Insect Glaive. The first two morph between a sword and a giant axe or an axe into a larger sword, while the glaive pogo stick jumps you into the air and you send out this kinsect bug by shooting it at the monster and depending where it hits it brings back different colored buffs. The idea is to get all three Buffs going at the same time which then expands your move set and makes combos infinite and twice as fast. It's super fun to play but definitely not newcomer friendly.
Longsword was the weapon I used to learn the game with and I still recommend it. But the game starts you out with one of each of the 14 weapons so you can go to the training area, and then go to your equipment box in that training area to swap out your main weapon, then practice with each one until you find one you gel with. I have a tradition of learning a new weapon each time a new game releases in the series. Once you've found the weapon you want to main, it's best to go on YouTube and watch a GaijinHunter tutorial for that weapon. That way you learn everything it can do and the right sequence of attacks for the best combo and just how to use the weapon properly.
@JohnnyMind
My reply is too long, so I'm breaking it up into 3 separate posts.
PART 1
This is the best MH-genre game that's not actually Monster Hunter itself. I'm not a fan of the monster designs, but aside from that, it absolutely rips.
I highly recommend Monster Hunter Rise though. Back in early 2013 I had just bought a Wii U and a copy of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. I had played it for an hour and then set it aside. Didn't really grab me. But my diehard Xbox fanboy co-worker kept telling me how bad he wanted to play Monster Hunter. He went out and purchased a Wii U with MH3U just to play that game. Everyday he would say man, I just wanna play some more Monster Hunter. I said hey, I'll play with you if you show me the ropes. That night we hunted together and it was the most thrilling excitement I'd ever experienced in a video game. 50 minute timer on standard hunts. We fought that monster so viciously! I cut off it's tail- it ran and fled into the water- we pursued it and fought it underwater. Then back onto land. Finally the signs of fatigue set in meaning it's close to death. It starts limping out of the area- we give chase and let everything out- we fought like our lives depended on it! And just when we thought we had it... Quest Failed. Time up. You have to understand that back then multiplayer hunts had a scalar that multiplied the difficulty by increasing the HP of the monster regardless of whether you had two people playing or four people playing so because it was just us two and it was my first time hunting a monster it took way longer than it normally would.
But I was hooked.
Every night we get off work and I would go home and hop online to play with him. And every time he would meet me in the lobby he'd be wearing a brand new armor set that just looked amazing. I'd be like dude, I want one too! So he'd help me hunt Great Jaggi to make me a set. The next day I'd be feeling all snazzy in my new armor, but he'd be wearing Qurupeco armor! I'd be like dude, where'd you get that?! "Oh ya know. After we quit playing last night I did a few hunts on my own." I'd say come on- I want one too! So he'd help me farm Qurupeco to make an armor set.
Next day I'm feeling like a fashion afficionado, join the lobby and he's decked out in Rathian armor... dude! I need me some of that! And thus the gameplay loop had sucked me in... hard.
I remember hunting Qurupeco and the giant bird makes this weird mating call. Next thing we know this giant drooling Tyrannasaurus Rex looking monster comes charging into the area wrecking everything in it's path. My friend is like, "Dude... RUN!!!" Ain't gotta tell me twice! I high tailed my little hiney out of there as fast as my legs could carry me! It was exhilarating!
Words cannot properly convey the sheer intensity of fun this franchise offers. It is currently my favorite video game franchise of all time. Even more than Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, Metroid, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Doom, Sniper Elite, Trials Rising, you name it. And to think I used to be just like you. It seemed to be a game that just wasn't my thing. The key is learning how to play the game properly. Once you know what you're doing it is the most fun you will ever experience with this medium. The challenge is overcoming that hurdle and admittedly, the games aren't very good at explaining everything and because they are so incredibly complex many players get confused and frustrated and just give up.
@GrailUK I agree they should disclose that info, but to be fair they all do get disclosed before release so in the end it's not like we're unable to know before we buy. But I disagree that it's disgusting behavior for reasons stated in my reply to someone else below. I think they should consider putting their games on cart for a $10 premium though. Then they could justify the price by saying look, it's a $70 game but if you want it on a high speed 1,200 MB/s 64GB cart, it's $79.99.
@Cikajovazmaj There's really nothing Nintendo can do. All of their own games come fully on cart but what third parties do is not in their control. We have to realize that we can't have our cake and eat it too. Nintendo is the only company who developed high speed media for games to play off that external medium and not require a mandatory installation. Thats not cheap. Especially when you're talking about a portable console where it has to be tiny. Each cartridge is like little mini-SSD (better even- the carts have read speeds twice that of Sata Solid State Drives). That has to be incredibly expensive. Just look at the price of microSD Express cards. 256GB for $60. So about $15 for 64GB of storage.
Then, factor in the larger size of 3rd party games, almost all of which would require a 64GB cart, and you end up where we are now. You simply can't have lightning fast external storage that's double the speed of Sata SSDs, with games largely requiring 64GB carts, and expect companies to foot that bill. We're honestly pretty lucky that even Nintendo is doing it. The fact some 3rd party games are also on cart is a miracle.
@The-Chosen-one no crossplay?
There's no point. The game is practically dead on other platforms. Plus this version increases players from 3 to 4. I'm not sure other versions ever did that. Maybe they did, but if not that would make them incompatible for sure.
Either way, the playerbase is going to essentially be all on Switch 2.
Inflation is real. 23% since the launch of PS5/XS. On that basis alone, $500 consoles from late 2020 should now be $615. And "wages not keeping up" doesn't change that fact. Yes, it's unfortunate wages aren't keeping up, but that doesn't negate the reality that inflation exists whether you like it or not, whether your wages have kept up or not.
Tariffs are also real. 145% rate has been levied against China in an effort to decrease dependence on a foreign communist regime. Which in theory is good. But what's not good is the price that must be paid for it.
Now. If the president does what's right and gives the revenue back to US citizens (enough revenue has already been generated to issue $50 checks to all 350 million citizens- by year's end it could be $500-1,000) it will more than offset any increased costs. However, if the president does not do what is right and does not funnel that tariff revenue back to citizens, we'll all be paying the price (literally).
Nintendo is the only one with the foresight to move some production to Vietnam beforehand, which can be used exclusively to supply the US. Yes, they're also affected by tariffs but not to the same extent. At worst, 32% (it was previously 46% but I think it was lowered to 32%, the 10% pause aside) of a $400 cost would be about $130. If they increase the price of the console to $529.99 and break even rather than turn a profit, we're looking at a $530 Switch.
But PS/Xbox are screwed. Their manufacturing is all in China. Which means even if a $500 PS5/XSX costs them $400 to make, the tariff alone would be $600. Meaning they'd have to raise prices to $1,000 just to break even. Meaning that $600 XSX isn't going to be enough to cut it. Not nearly enough.
And I just don't see how PS/Xbox competes under those circumstances. Their only hope is to lobby for an exemption.
That blaster game was seriously dope. Most fun I ever had in VR, and I've owned not one but two headsets (which have been collecting dust for over half a decade).
I gave my Dragon Quest limited edition v2 Switch to a co-worker whose Switch was stolen. My Zelda TotK Switch OLED was stolen along with my Splatoon 3 Switch OLED. I still have my day 1 launch Switch, Monster Hunter Rise v2 Switch and my new Switch OLED which has been hard modded for overclocking.
I won't get rid of my hard modded OLED or my MH Rise Switch. But I suppose I might sell my v1 Switch. Then again it's only $100. Better off keeping it connected in my mom's living room. She watches her church friend's daughter sometimes and that girl goes ham on Animal Crossing. I wouldnt want to take that from her.
It's everything gamers have been demanding for the last 4 years and then some. Remember the Switch Pro hysteria? The demand for a more powerful Switch has only grown more intense with each passing year.
Many doubted the system would even be able to match Xbox One performance. Games besides indies hitting 4k wasn't even really considered a possibility. Many doubted the system would even have 4k capabilities. And 120fps? Nobody brought that up because it seemed outrageous. A 1080p 120fps HDR screen with VRR? Ha! Not even Steamdeck has even ONE of those features- the notion Switch 2 would have all of them would have been the laughing stock of the internet.
And yet, demand was overwhelming even then. So of course when the system is revealed and people learn it DOES offer 4k and even at launch has a number of 4k 60fps titles including Yakuza 0 Director's Cut and Fast Fusion, it DOES offer 120fps with numerous launch titles hitting that target, it DOES have a 1080p screen, it DOES have HDR, and VRR, and DLSS. It comes strong with a gang of 3rd party support like Street Fighter 6 and Cyberpunk, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Elden Ring and an exclusive FromSoftware title... when this happens it's only natural that hype levels soar beyond the stratosphere.
Virtually every complaint has been addressed. Joycon drift? Analogs have been redesigned ground up and are also now near frictionless, impressing most who have gone hands on. Pro Controller d-pad misregistering? Fixed. No audio jack? Fixed. No rear grip buttons? Fixed (even with the charge grip). No voice chat? Fixed. Laggy eShop? Fixed. Switch game performance issues? Fixed.
And that makes no mention of features and improvements. Backward compatibility, gameshare, mouse mode integration, magnetic joycon attachments, high speed data transfer (for internal storage, for physical game cartriges and external storage via microSD express), etc.
It's the most bad$$$ gaming device I've ever seen. And if I'm feeling that way, it's fair to assume I'm not the only one.
@mr12calvin There's 512GB and 1TB microSD Express cards also. I own a 1TB Lexar mSDex with 900 MB/s read speeds and 600 MB/s write speeds. I got it for $173. Price then went to $187 (still a discount from the $199 MSRP). It's temporarily out of stock on Amazon but comes back in stock every week or so.
Gamestop also has 512GB and 1TB mSDex cards which are 800 MB/s. Those are in stock right now. $190 for the 1TB.
Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is a Nintendo console exclusive launch title, and the full game is on cart, and it also works in the OG Switch if inserted by playing the NSW1 version of the game, and it includes mouse integration, and it looks absolutely incredible.
Rune Factory is seriously dope, but the last one (Rune Factory 5) was such a technical disaster I didn't even bother playing it. This new one is in a whole other league.
And Daemon x Machina: Titanic Scion was my #1 game of the show when the Direct aired.
Secured the bag multiple times over with not one but three separate preorders, just in case.

Got the Mario Kart World Switch 2 bundle from Target, BestBuy and Walmart.
Also have the joycon 2, charge grip, pro controller and camera on lock from Amazon UK. Importing those since listings for the joycon 2 and charge grip aren't available to preorder in the US.
I'm all digital now anyways so no difference to me. Code stored on a plastic cartridge or code stored on a plastic microSD. Don't really see a difference personally. Except buying digital comes with a 20+ year warranty to re-download if I lose that physical medium storing the data.

These 3rd party games are on cart in the west as I understand it.
I suspect Limited Run Games will partner with some publishers like Sega to release on cart versions of Sonic Generations, Raidou and Yakuza 0
@Ryu_Niiyama My thoughts exactly. Mouse mode is proving to be extremely popular with developers. And not in a gimmicky way either. We're seeing genuine improvements to the gameplay experience in almost every single Switch 2 title.
I even saw that in Tomogachi Plaza, you use gyro to aim with the joycon, but hold the mouse sensor side upwards, then use your other hand to "swipe" across it toward the TV screen, throwing ninja stars (while aiming with gyro still). Basically like that NintendoLand game on Wii U (Or was it WarioWare? Can't remember, but I'm sure you know the one I'm talking about). That's an incredibly innovative use I never would have thought of.
I saw mini games in Bravely Default that uses the mouse, gameplay in Delta rune with dualmice in combination with the gyroscope, then theres the obvious advantage of mouse aiming in Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy and Metroid Prime, point and click assist in games like No Sleep For Kaname Date and Nobanuga's Ambition, better sim management in Rune Factory, all sorts of games in Welcome Tour and Mario Party...
It would be easier to list the games not utilizing mouse mode tbh. As if gyro aiming and the hybrid value proposition wasn't enough reason to buy 3rd party games on Switch 2 already, mouse integration seals the deal.
The thing I love about F-Zero is the tight controls, and how holding the shoulder buttons allows for sharp turning not otherwise possible. I love the FAST series but do wish it had tighter controls with shoulder buttons for sharper turning. Seems every futuristic racer that's not F-Zero makes your vehicle skid when turning sharp which doesn't feel rewarding. Nailing the timing on the shoulder buttons and pulling off a quick turn does.
I have a Deck OLED limited edition and I'm glad I bought it. But I do play my hard modded Switch OLED overclocking games while outputting the docked image in handheld mode, locking resolution to 720p and overriding in-game framerate caps to hit 60fps in many titles (at the very least locking 30fps).
And with the Mobapad M6 HD joycon (think Hori Split Pad Pro but with actual HD rumble, wireless with system wake, gyro, mechanical buttons, HALL Effect analogs, rear grip buttons and 17 hr battery life) it feels just as comfortable as Steamdeck.
Of course, once Switch 2 releases that'll become my primary console moving forward. But I'll also pick up a Steamdeck 2 if they ever release one.
@BrokenCiv On social media it's chock to the hilt with "why would anyone buy Switch 2 when THIS exists" posts, which almost always include a picture of the Steamdeck.
I'm a day one Deck owner and a day one Deck OLED limited edition owner, upgraded with a 2TB NVMe. But even I know Deck fanboys are insufferable. Idk if it's insecurity or just immaturity, but many of them are on a crusade against Switch 2 atm.
Itll come to Switch 2 later. Microsoft are likely already swamped porting other games over. DOOM The Dark Ages, Starfield, Call of Duty, etc.
But when it does come I bet it'll have gyro aiming like Skyrim, mouse support and maybe even some crossover content. Would make a good November release like Skyrim was for Switch.
@Stwert On the subject of DLSS, I absolutely love it. Ever since I got a PC with Nvidia RX2080 ti I've enabled DLSS for every game that supports it. It's so good. You practically need a side by side with magnifying glass to tell the difference. I'm hoping every game uses it to maximize potential performance and battery life.
It's not unreasonable to be upset at the pricing of Mario Kart World.
At the same time, it is what it is. Bitching about it endlessly on forums won't magically change the MSRP. Voicing discontent and then moving on is perfectly reasonable. Harping on and on about it, harassing anyone planning to buy the game, is not.
I think its a bit high but, I can't change it, so why waste my breath. And I'm certainly not going to get emotional about something so trivial as an extra $10 for a single video game, regardless of how I feel about it. I can either buy it and enjoy a fantastic game, or skip it and miss out.
And if I skip it, I'll have avoided spending an extra $10... yippee! Imagine the fun I could have with that $10! I can totally score a Frappuccino and biscotti at Starbucks! A few minutes later, that $10 will be nothing more than an empty cup and crumbs on a napkin. I suppose I'll just stare at a blank screen for the next few months and imagine playing Mario Kart World. And any time I get bummed, I'll wipe my tears by dwelling on that sweet, sweet memory of drinking a Frappacino 😀
@Ryu_Niiyama I want the amiibo but with the Switch 2 expenses Idk if I can afford this also. I may just grab the Street Fighter 6 amiibo since those will likely be hard to find later on. But there's just too many Zelda amiibo at this point. Even for me.
@rjejr Ya, they started in 2015 at $13, then increased to $16. Then the Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter Stories 2 amiibo were $20. Amazing how price is now $30
And those 1/7 scale figures available from sites like Amiami- those are $200 nowadays! Used to be $100 or even less. The new Lucina 1/7 scale figure is $202 + shipping ($240 total via Air Mail). It's crazy.
Youre basically getting half as many amiibos for your money now. $90 for 3 Street Fighter 6 amiibo. Back in the day you could get x6 amiibos for that price.
Oh, it'll happen eventually. It's their only other big game with massive sales potential. Switch 2 would give it one final run to ratchet up another million sales.
But for now, let's dig into Cyberpunk 2077
@OorWullie So would I.
Beat the game swapping between Switch and PC via cross save but I'd be all over a Switch 2 version.
@Indielink Intergrade was not made available on PS4, similar to the Cyberpunk expansion. Unless that's changed recently but as I recall it was PS5 exclusive (and then brought to PC).
@larryisaman I can already play them portably and for much cheaper too
I also have a Steamdeck and can say games aren't necessarily cheaper. Cyberpunk + expansion is $90 on Steam, for example (recently was 8% off for $83). So even full MSRP day one on Switch 2 will be cheaper.
Generally speaking it is a bit cheaper on Steam long term but not as much as some make it seem. It's actually often times more expensive in my experience, unless you wait for the big Christmas sale each year and just load up then.
I respect Shuhei Yoshida but I disagree. Nintendo have always stuck with a working concept when they have one. SNES was an improved NES. N64 was an improved SNES. GameCube was an improved N64. Gameboy Color was an improved Gameboy. Gameboy Advance was an improved Gameboy Color. 3DS was an improved DS. And Switch 2 is an improved Switch.
Their identity is not defined by throwing away the most popular concept in the history of gaming in favor of throwing new darts at the board. Their identity is defined by innovations like the mouse mode. Like Gameshare working online. Like magnetic joycon. Their identity is defined by their IP and games released. Like Metroid Prime 4. Like Mario Kart World. Like Donkey Kong Bonanza.
I get what he's saying to an extent, but he knows as well as anyone Nintendo Switch 2 is the peoples' choice. It's what the people want. Switch 2 is exactly what the entire gaming community wanted, in fact. And while his statement was in good faith, I've seen it used by ideologues as a rather pathetic attempt to marginalize the impact Switch 2 is going to have.
@dew12333 the mouse thing is just copying what a PC offers
And the DS lower screen was just a screen- copying what phones had. And 3DS just had 3D- copying what 3DTVs had. Etc.
Innovation is not the same as invention. Innovation is taking existing concepts and inventions and finding new and unique ways of implementing them.
So while "mouse existed on PC" the fact no console in the last 40 years thought to make the included controller also function as a mouse (often implementing clumsy alternatives like dual TouchPads on Steamdeck or the mousepad on Dualshock 4) speaks to how truly gamechanging this innovation has the potential to be

Re: Round Up: The First Impressions Of Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time Are In
Pre-ordered deluxe edition on Switch, importing English Asian physical, and will absolutely upgrade to the NSW2 edition when it releases.
Re: Talking Point: Are You Ghosting Switch 1 To Save Yourself For Switch 2?
Re: Talking Point: Are You Excited At All For Switch 2 GameChat?
Re: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Developer Seems Open To A Switch 2 Port
Re: Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time Has Been Confirmed For Switch 2
And there it is! The only version worth playing now.
@VoidofLight
The standard of being tethered to a tv.
Re: Opinion: Nintendo's Forgotten The Game With The Most 'Switch 2 Edition' Potential
I agree.
My only concern is how to move (left analog), aim (mouse) and turn camera (???). Aha! Perhaps map the GL/GR to pan left and right. That's it! That's the solution!

Re: Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time Switch Estimated File Size Revealed
Preordered digitally on Switch and got the English Asian version on lock from Play-Asia. I'll be so glad when Switch games stop releasing and it's only Switch 2. I'm so close to finishing my physical Switch collection so I can hang up the hat and go 100% digital.
Re: 'Wild Hearts S' Switch 2 Release Detailed By Koei Tecmo
@JohnnyMind
Ah, gotcha. That's a shame.
Just fyi.
@CJD87
By far this is the best MH-genre game that's not actually Monster Hunter.
Re: 'Wild Hearts S' Switch 2 Release Detailed By Koei Tecmo
@JohnnyMind
PART 3
So much of the tedium has been removed from the series nowadays that it's a lot easier than it used to be.
Re: 'Wild Hearts S' Switch 2 Release Detailed By Koei Tecmo
@JohnnyMind
PART 2
Weapons feeling "slow and clunky" is one of the most common complaints you'll hear.
Re: 'Wild Hearts S' Switch 2 Release Detailed By Koei Tecmo
@JohnnyMind
Re: 'Wild Hearts S' Switch 2 Release Detailed By Koei Tecmo
@GrailUK
I agree they should disclose that info, but to be fair they all do get disclosed before release so in the end it's not like we're unable to know before we buy.
@Cikajovazmaj
There's really nothing Nintendo can do.
@The-Chosen-one
no crossplay?
There's no point. The game is practically dead on other platforms. Plus this version increases players from 3 to 4. I'm not sure other versions ever did that. Maybe they did, but if not that would make them incompatible for sure.
Either way, the playerbase is going to essentially be all on Switch 2.
Re: Xbox Is Raising The Price Of Consoles, Accessories, And Games Worldwide

Re: Poll: GameStop Offers A Tempting Switch 2 Trade-In Deal, But Is It Really Worth It?
Re: Analyst Predicts Record-Breaking Launch Numbers For Switch 2
It was always going to be a smash success.
Re: Hitman's Switch 2 Pre-Order Trailer Shows Off Mario-Inspired Outfits And Goodies
@mr12calvin
There's 512GB and 1TB microSD Express cards also.
Re: Marvelous USA Confirms Its Switch 2 Physical Releases Will Contain The "Full Game"

Re: Switch 2 Game-Key Cards Won't Make It Easy For Physical Collectors In Japan
I'm all digital now anyways so no difference to me. Code stored on a plastic cartridge or code stored on a plastic microSD. Don't really see a difference personally. Except buying digital comes with a 20+ year warranty to re-download if I lose that physical medium storing the data.
@Ralizah
These 3rd party games are on cart in the west as I understand it.
I suspect Limited Run Games will partner with some publishers like Sega to release on cart versions of Sonic Generations, Raidou and Yakuza 0
Re: New 'AI: The Somnium Files' Is Latest Switch 2 Game To Include Mouse Mode Support
@Ryu_Niiyama
My thoughts exactly.
Re: Exclusive: Shin'en Talks 'Fast Fusion' On Switch 2, Reveals First-Look Trailer
All that said this will be day one.
Re: Opinion: Steam Deck Fans Are Seriously Underestimating The Switch 2
@BrokenCiv
On social media it's chock to the hilt with "why would anyone buy Switch 2 when THIS exists" posts, which almost always include a picture of the Steamdeck.
I'm a day one Deck owner and a day one Deck OLED limited edition owner, upgraded with a 2TB NVMe. But even I know Deck fanboys are insufferable. Idk if it's insecurity or just immaturity, but many of them are on a crusade against Switch 2 atm.
Re: Feature: The Switch 2 Sticks Might Not Be Hall Effect, But They Feel Fantastic
I bet they're using that patented technology with liquid inside. That would explain why it feels frictionless.
@Olliemar28
If you were able to reliably play SF6 with the d-pad then I'd say we're golden.

Still here lol! Was just reading my 2015 comment. Like wow. I joined this site at age 29 and am now 41. Where has the time gone...
Re: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Is Out Now, But Switch 2 Is Unconfirmed
Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Confirmed As The First Switch 2 Title To Use Nvidia's DLSS Upscaling
@Stwert
On the subject of DLSS, I absolutely love it. Ever since I got a PC with Nvidia RX2080 ti I've enabled DLSS for every game that supports it. It's so good. You practically need a side by side with magnifying glass to tell the difference. I'm hoping every game uses it to maximize potential performance and battery life.
Re: Mailbox: Switch 2 Price Drops, Remake Replacements, Pokémon Acquisitions - Nintendo Life Letters
Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Confirmed As The First Switch 2 Title To Use Nvidia's DLSS Upscaling
And observe how amazing Cyberpunk 2077 looks in handheld mode on Switch 2. A far cry from Wolfenstein 2 on the Switch.

Re: amiibo Could Be Getting A Price Hike, According To GameStop Listings (US)
@Ryu_Niiyama
I want the amiibo but with the Switch 2 expenses Idk if I can afford this also. I may just grab the Street Fighter 6 amiibo since those will likely be hard to find later on. But there's just too many Zelda amiibo at this point. Even for me.
Re: Opinion: It's Time To Get Rid Of Fall Damage
I think it should depend on the game.
But I'd be lying if I said I didn't agree with you on how amazing it feels to leap off a mountain in Xenoblade X. You're not wrong about that.
Re: amiibo Could Be Getting A Price Hike, According To GameStop Listings (US)
@rjejr
Ya, they started in 2015 at $13, then increased to $16.
Re: Uh Oh, It Looks Like Select Switch 2 Games Won't Support Cloud Saves
I could see TotK due to the Zelda Notes. Maybe players could abuse saving items and reloading. Maybe it could be exploited for hacking.
But the other games I'm sure will have cloud saves.

It's LG C4 not LG C44 btw
Re: CD Projekt Red Coy On Witcher 3 Upgrade For Switch 2
Oh, it'll happen eventually. It's their only other big game with massive sales potential. Switch 2 would give it one final run to ratchet up another million sales.
But for now, let's dig into Cyberpunk 2077
@OorWullie
So would I.
Beat the game swapping between Switch and PC via cross save but I'd be all over a Switch 2 version.

Re: Feature: "It's Huge For Us" - Devs Talk Switch 2 Reactions, Dev-Kit Disparity, Future Plans
Interesting stuff.
@Indielink
Intergrade was not made available on PS4, similar to the Cyberpunk expansion. Unless that's changed recently but as I recall it was PS5 exclusive (and then brought to PC).
@larryisaman
I can already play them portably and for much cheaper too
I also have a Steamdeck and can say games aren't necessarily cheaper.
Re: Sony Vet Shuhei Yoshida Says Nintendo Is "Losing Their Identity" With Switch 2
@dew12333
the mouse thing is just copying what a PC offers
And the DS lower screen was just a screen- copying what phones had. And 3DS just had 3D- copying what 3DTVs had. Etc.
Innovation is not the same as invention. Innovation is taking existing concepts and inventions and finding new and unique ways of implementing them.
So while "mouse existed on PC" the fact no console in the last 40 years thought to make the included controller also function as a mouse (often implementing clumsy alternatives like dual TouchPads on Steamdeck or the mousepad on Dualshock 4) speaks to how truly gamechanging this innovation has the potential to be

It does give a tech demo vibe.
Nonetheless, watching treehouse footage changed my opinion from "eh" to "I may grab this actually".

@darkswabber
That's like saying "but it's not fair!"
Inflation is a fact. Whether you want to recognize its effects or not.
