I think I'd be more excited for this if we hadn't had at least two other high profile racing games on S2 already. But I'm sure that won't stop others having fun

Had my eye on this for a while and from these samples, it's not a disappointment. Exciting!

Too close to MP4 release to shadow drop 2 and 3 now. I suspect 2 will make it to NSO in 2026. 3 might have to wait until they get around to releasing Wii games on NSO. Which sounds unlikely before DS games so... 2027 maybe?

My wife loves these games and was looking for more so this is great news for her.

I'm interested in trying it one day but not rushing out to buy an expansion pass and peripherals.

Looking forward to trying this out on Playstation Plus. If I like it enough I might get the Switch version for convenience.

I wonder if he financed this latest update with the money he got from licensing this for PS+? I assume that's how these things work.

Looks good to me gameplay wise and that's more important than character design. Who plays this kind of game for the characters anyway? They look ok to me, better than some of the slop live service games are pushing.

I'm enjoying it overall. I hadn't even thought about the lack of a map so obviously not that big of a deal to me anyway.

I've had precisely one crash and one instance of clipping out of the level. Concerning, but not "broken" and actually kind of weirdly authentic compared to games 20 years ago.

My biggest gripe are the bosses. Boring, damage sponges.

I don't know how Sega could look at the very positive reception for Mania and decide not to do a follow up. Superstars was fine and I commend them for going all in on an all new 2D Sonic, but they should have trusted Whitehead and co to make it, it would have had that extra magic that Mania had.

@LazyDaisy Every game ever made gets playtested. Many times. They're just not normally public events like this one.

The article misses one more important reason: there's only a few million Switch 2's in the world so far.

Were these third parties expecting to sell 10 million on a console with an install base of 3-5 million?

The dude is a lone developer. He should do whatever he wants and not be hounded for doing so. Making games is hard enough without having to deal with entitled pr*cks on top of that.

50/50 after 1009 votes. I think that's fair as this was a tough one. I went with the US/EU one just because the colours are bit more vibrant.

I'm surprised this hasn't happened before. Multiple games disappear from Playstation Plus every month. Maybe Nintendo, to their credit, insist on longer term licenses?

Sure, NSO might get shutdown one day, but it will just be replaced with another official way of playing the games on future hardware, so NSO disappearing is highly unlikely to mean these games are gone forever.

Your VC purchases on the other hand are tied to your 3DS, Wii or Wii U. What's going to happen when your hardware dies (and it will die one day)? Gone forever...

It is kind of weird that everywhere does GOTY lists in December and not January when all the games for the previous year and have been released and people have had a chance to play them.

I was looking for a Metroid Prime artbook for Christmas so while this is obviously late for that, it should make a great birthday present next year instead!

That's quite the visual update, even if some of it is a bit jarring.

I'd be interested to hear if it has any QoL features, and if the button layout can be customised. I'm not sure when I'll get this but I've wanted to give the first game in the series another go for ages.

I started the game tonight and I noticed this too! It throws me off. I probably will get used to it but right now it doesn't feel natural, it requires just that little bit too much concentration.

It sold badly because most have played it already. I suspect that has more to do with it.

Nothing lasts forever.
Joy cons that get used alot, break faster.
You can't compare Joy Cons to older Nintendo controllers. It's like comparing a bicycle to a car. There's far more things that can go wrong with a Joy Con than a SNES controller. It also explains the price hikes. Consumers/Developers want more functionality from their controllers. That comes at a price.

I hate to sound like I'm making excuses and I hope Nintendo go even further to test their hardware durability for Switch 2. But trying to sue Nintendo because "stuff breaks" was never going to work.

Looks good but not seeing the Sonic Adventure comparisons. Looks much more like boost era Sonic to me, Generations, Colours and Forces gameplay of running fast on a road. There's Sonic Heroes vibes too. But not so much Adventure in my opinion.

I mean, they both have Chonky Chu so are both winners in my eyes.

There are many things I loved about TotK, and some things I thought it did better, but overall I think BotW is the better game. Both outstanding though.

Personally, I'm waiting to see if these will be playable on Switch 2. Avoiding digital Switch 1 purchases until we know more.

Unpopular opinion, but I think I'm ready for a new 2D Mario. The last all new one was on the Wii U.

I would however, not like it in the "New" style. I'd like to see a different style, or even the return of something like the Yoshi's Island look.

Of course, I'd take a new 3D game too.

I also made a 40 level 8 world "claasic" game in Mario Maker 2. I spent months on it rather than years though. I'm proud of it even if it ain't a "Mario Bros 5".

I always thought Rayman was kind of cool so off you pop NL. There's several Nintendo first parties I'd rather not play over Rayman Origins or Legends.
