But seriously, I'm glad they went with these over the originals as the extra polish and QOL stuff added at the time make them easier to play in this day and age. I'm sure those who've enjoyed speed-up functions on emulation won't be able to cope though! But I suspect they're less fussed about buying them officially anyway, I assume.

It's interesting how much goes into these machines. It's more than just flippers, bumpers and flashing lights.

I've got some of their posters in the past using points. I can vouch for their quality.

I'll try the cardboard version at some point, out of sheer curiosity.

Very good, for a partner direct. Feels like they were holding back some things for a full direct maybe? This was great though, lots of 3rd party support.

I thought he was fine and the game is great in general. Not a big fan of Sol Valley but didn't ruin the whole experience.

You can really pinpoint those comments from people who didn't play the game and just watched on YouTube... anyone parroting the word "constantly" for example...

@molkom I'm near the end and enjoyed the whole experience. Yes there are some less good bits, but they are minor and not the bulk of the game. The core game, the "stages", are awesome. It feels like a Prime game, so if you loved the other games, you'll like this I think. If you've never played a Prime game, you might be in for a shock. This isn't like an FPS you get anywhere else.

@Moistnado I suppose we could justify this by assuming the Federation didn't know about the additional Metroid's Sylux and the Pirates had taken captive at some point, but it would be nice for some clarification. This "statement" sounds like they've thrown it out there with no real thought. Maybe they just wanted to say something more interesting than "Prime 4 is after Prime 3".

Personally, I don't care much either. Prime 4 is great wherever it sits.

A console with a player base as big as the Switch 1 won't lose support for years yet.

I think I'd be more excited for this if we hadn't had at least two other high profile racing games on S2 already. But I'm sure that won't stop others having fun

Had my eye on this for a while and from these samples, it's not a disappointment. Exciting!

Too close to MP4 release to shadow drop 2 and 3 now. I suspect 2 will make it to NSO in 2026. 3 might have to wait until they get around to releasing Wii games on NSO. Which sounds unlikely before DS games so... 2027 maybe?

My wife loves these games and was looking for more so this is great news for her.

I'm interested in trying it one day but not rushing out to buy an expansion pass and peripherals.

Looking forward to trying this out on Playstation Plus. If I like it enough I might get the Switch version for convenience.

Looks good to me gameplay wise and that's more important than character design. Who plays this kind of game for the characters anyway? They look ok to me, better than some of the slop live service games are pushing.

I'm enjoying it overall. I hadn't even thought about the lack of a map so obviously not that big of a deal to me anyway.

I've had precisely one crash and one instance of clipping out of the level. Concerning, but not "broken" and actually kind of weirdly authentic compared to games 20 years ago.

My biggest gripe are the bosses. Boring, damage sponges.

I don't know how Sega could look at the very positive reception for Mania and decide not to do a follow up. Superstars was fine and I commend them for going all in on an all new 2D Sonic, but they should have trusted Whitehead and co to make it, it would have had that extra magic that Mania had.

@LazyDaisy Every game ever made gets playtested. Many times. They're just not normally public events like this one.

The article misses one more important reason: there's only a few million Switch 2's in the world so far.

Were these third parties expecting to sell 10 million on a console with an install base of 3-5 million?

The dude is a lone developer. He should do whatever he wants and not be hounded for doing so. Making games is hard enough without having to deal with entitled pr*cks on top of that.

50/50 after 1009 votes. I think that's fair as this was a tough one. I went with the US/EU one just because the colours are bit more vibrant.

I'm surprised this hasn't happened before. Multiple games disappear from Playstation Plus every month. Maybe Nintendo, to their credit, insist on longer term licenses?

Sure, NSO might get shutdown one day, but it will just be replaced with another official way of playing the games on future hardware, so NSO disappearing is highly unlikely to mean these games are gone forever.

Your VC purchases on the other hand are tied to your 3DS, Wii or Wii U. What's going to happen when your hardware dies (and it will die one day)? Gone forever...
