Looking great! These are the good times. Unlike the late days of the Wii U or Gamecube, when there would only be a few games to look forward to for the entire year! Enjoy these good times.
Great recap. There's a couple of games I hadn't played so it's interesting to hear what went on in those.
Samus's body must be pretty messed up, especially after the events of Fusion. She's been merged with Metroid DNA, "corrupted" by Phazon, and almost killed by the X-Parasite infection.
@Bryon15 A lot of what you just listed are expensive to license. Then, assuming they have the source code at all, and being third party titles, they probably don't, they would need additional coding to make them work on the emulator, then optimizing, promoting through updating their websites at a minimum... the list goes on. And all for a minority (let's face it, most people play Switch for Switch games, not the NSO games) of players, some of which are only paying £4 a YEAR for the service. Not to mention that some of these third parties are selling these games for actual money on other platforms, so won't want to give Nintendo the licenses and damage their sales elsewhere.
It's just not worth it, for Nintendo or the third parties.
It wouldn't surprise me if it did exist and came out in 2022 between Dread this year and Prime 4 in 2023.
But, anyone can make a prediction like "it'll come out when Nintendo are ready". It could come out in 2030 and does this rumour-monger expect credit for that? Jog on.
Part of me hope's the next Smash game is a fresh start for the series, with a new roster made up of a lot of the characters we're seeing as Mii costumes in Ultimate.
Looking great and worth the wait! This and Metroid Dread give me hope for games with looong development cycles turning out great in the end despite not hearing much, if anything. Bayonetta 3 and Prime 4 will be just fine...
On a list where S3&K doesn't count, I actually rate Sonic 2 highest. Sonic 3 is too short on its own and S&K feels a little off without the first half of the story, although I love the challenge it presents.
At least they're taking their time. Many of the 3D Sonic games suffered from being rushed. Forces, Boom, even the original Adventure, but at least that was in concept for ages, just didn't finish the actual polishing in time for the Dreamcast launch.
Mario Kart 7 hung around the charts for years and years too. It's why Nintendo only release one version of Mario Kart per console, and why we won't be seeing Mario Kart 9 on Switch.
Mario Kart 9 exclusive to Switch Pro IF it exists, is the only way we're seeing a new MK this/next year.
We'll certainly be giving the motion controls a go in this house. Golf and tennis tended to work well with motion controls on Wii and the Switch JoyCons are more optimised than those.
I was thinking last night, no one's talking about a potential new Fire Emblem game? It's become one of Nintendo's better selling franchises and Three Houses has been out a while. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a new game announced.
Still a lot less content than E3s of days gone by. Hardly an industry wide event.
For those asking about the sign up. Just watch the stream on Nintendo Life? I'd be very surprised if the others weren't all on YouTube as well. They wouldn't want to massively restrict their audience to a small minority of people who just have an account.
40 mins isn't super long but here's how I think it will go;
0-5: Smash Bros character reveal and opening remarks from whoever is hosting. 5-15: Looking at games just released or about to that we already know about. 15-20: First new information revealed. A look at Bayonetta 3 perhaps with release date? 20-30: Compilation of minor releases in quick snippets. 30-32: More blah blah from the host before "one last thing" 32-38: Zelda BotW2 gameplay and release date. 38-40: Thank yous and goodbye.
@Kirbo100 This is my guess too. They're probably kicking themselves for not having a game to tie in to the first movie and don't want to miss that potential pay day again with hype for the second movie around.
Hopefully a collection with games that aren't just the "Death Egg Trilogy". The handheld games and some of the 3D titles would be good.
I'm hoping for a brand new game too but I have a feeling it's going to be "Sonic the hedgehog, the movie, the game" which could be great but equally, could be a disaster.
Would Nintendo Life be interested in doing a proper article about the real cost of emulating these different platforms?
Coding, licensing, obtaining reratings by modern standards, advertising, hosting costs, etc etc etc. And a measure of what the actual demand for these games is, how much they really get played, how much Nintendo actually make from NSO vs the cost of running it?
We get these "wouldn't it be wonderful if..." articles every single day here at NL, but never one looking at the reality.
E3 is often disappointing so I don't get my hopes up for too much.
They'd be mad to not show anything from the big 3 we're waiting for (Zelda, Bayonetta, Metroid). I suspect we'll get a 2022 release date for Zelda BotW2 as a minimum, and a couple of new reveals for lesser releases.
I say 2022 for BotW2 because we're already getting a Zelda this year. I also believe Nintendo and a lot of other publishers have not been honest with us about just how much COVID has effected development times. I would be very surprised if we see a concrete date for Metroid.
Nintendo's argument will be that if people are playing fan made games, they're not playing the real games and therefore, not giving their money to Nintendo. It's a business decision. Are they right? Debatable.
@duffmmann Oh I agree. I was talking more about launching MK9 on the same platform as MK8. All they would be doing is replacing one currently selling well game, with another, at great developmental and publishing expense.

They're in every place that sells Switch games. There was never a shortage. It was hype to sell more copies at the time.

Switch Pro is Switch 2.
2023.
Launch titles:
Metroid Prime 4.
Mario Kart 9.
New 3D Mario.
Re: Random: The Internet Reacts To The New Switch OLED Model
Nintendo will still release an upgraded Switch.
It will be called the Switch 2. In 2023.
And by gawd it better be backwards compatible with Switch 1 games or they'll spend the rest of the decade fending off cries for ports.

Re: Talking Point: When Was The Last Time A Game Cracked Your Top Five?
The last games to crack my Top 5 was Megaman Zero 2 and Metroid Prime, both 18 years ago. 2003 was quite the year.
The other 3 are;
Phantasy Star Online
Sonic 3&K
Gunstar Heroes/Yoshi's Island (I find it very had to seperate these two)

Re: Sonic Is Alive And Well, According To Sega Sammy's Sales Data For Fiscal Year 2021
Sonic is still Sega's Mario. Where would they be today without him.
I picked up Generations again recently from Steam for something like £1 in a sale so maybe all those units sold didn't actually bring in that much.
Hoping for something more interesting than just the Sonic Colours remake at E3
