Since my week off vacation starts today, I've chosen to save The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom up until now. Zelda games always have a magic to them, and since Christmas is a magical time, I'm sure the two will go together nicely. I'm also planning to play some co-op games with my wife, such as Blanc, Moving Out 2 and Vitamin Connection.
I had 696 hours between January and November, so I'm over 700 hours for sure. My most played game was Splatoon 3, at over 170 hours. Which is funny, because that was my in-between game, since I beat 50 other games this year. I'd say my favourite 2024 game was Pizza Tower, but in terms of just an overall game that I happened to be playing in 2024, then Splatoon 3, as my numbers show for it.
I've already seen the post credits scene leaked, but I chose to spoil myself since I know it will be weeks until I can get into a less congested theatre to see it. And I knew I would be spoiled by then anyway. All I can say is that I think it's the most fitting reveal they can go with at this stage. It doesn't disappoint.
I'll be finishing up Shadow Generations. I've absolutely loved it so until the final world, which is garbage. I'm not looking forward to the final boss. Still, the rest of the game has been one of the best 3D Sonic games I've ever played.
Beyond that, I'll be playing some Big Run in Splatoon 3. I do want to start Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom soon, but I think I'll wait until next weekend, when I start my Christmas holiday.
Sonic x Shadow Generations. I just picked it up at Walmart for it's Black Friday sale price. I'm going to start with Shadow Generations since I played the original back on PS3.
Hopefully someone who owns the game can comment on this article later and share if the game has been drastically improved with this patch. I would hate to only have "some of the issues" corrected instead of most, if not all of them.
I just finished this game called Loddlenaut, which I want to give a high recommendation for, for anyone who wants a cozy game in the vein of A Short Hike or Lil Gator Game, but mixed with PowerWash Simulator, the Sonic Chao garden (minus the racing, and with axolotls instead), and all white being underwater. I was stunned at how good it is, and no one talks about it at all. It's a great stress reliever if you're going through a tough time. Seriously, check out a trailer at least and see if it's for you.
I'm also playing Wilmot's Warehouse, which is a fantastic game about...organizing a warehouse. But I'm not kidding, it really is a lot of fun. It's not a simulator. It's more like a puzzle game that tests your memory and organization skills. It's kinda like doing orders in Overcooked, but it's made to work in single player (technically, you can also play this in co-op too). Another high recommendation from me.
I just started up Wilmot's Warehouse this morning, and it's this incredibly fun and addictive warehouse management puzzle game. It's kind of like Overcooked in terms of getting the right items delivered, but it has this zen organization element to it in between deliveries. I didn't expect it to be THIS good. I'm having a blast already.
After finishing Berserk Boy last week (an awesome fusion of Megaman Zero, Gunvolt and Freedom Planet), I started up A.I: The Somnium Files. It scratches that visual novel itch (reminds me a little of the investigations in Ace Attorney), and im absolutely loving the characters and story so far. It's worth the $10 I got it on sale for.
I absolutely care about Halo. It was the first game my wife and I ever played together, but I only have it on my old original Xbox. After my 360s red-ringed 3 times, I've never bought another Xbox console again. But I would buy Halo on a Nintendo system, Day One. It would also give me some slight hope of seeing Master Chief in Smash Bros, so I say Bring It On!
After finally beating Pizza Tower last weekend (pretty sure it'll be my GOTY), as well as Oxenfree II and Wavetale, I started Berserk Boy, so I'll be playing that. It's like a fun fusion of Freedom Planet, Gunvolt and Mega Man Zero.
@Rainz Night in the Woods is amazing. I played through it 6 or so years ago and it still remains one of my favourite games of all time. Oxenfree II has had much better dialog and voice acting than the first game (which was already a good game). I played through a couple more hours this morning and I'm deeply invested. I know I'm already halfway through, but it's good value for only a few bucks. I'm on the final world of Pizza Tower, and honestly, I wasn't too big on the game at first, but by the second world the controls clicked, and the escape sequences didn't stress me out as much. There's still a level of stress when I play (kind of like Cuphead, which I also picked at and eventually beat), but I seriously think it may be a GOTY contender for me.
I'll be playing through most of Oxenfree II. It's been a great game for the few bucks that I paid for it during the sale it's on. I'm also really going to try to finish Pizza Tower, now that I've finally got a more chill, weekend at home. I love this game, but ive been picking at it for months due to its higher difficulty and high stress moments. My nerves are only fine with playing it in short spurts. But the game is always on my mind, and is probably the most memorable game I've played all year.
I've got Download issues on my OLED, where it won't download games while in sleep mode. I have to keep the Switch turned on, and have no games running if I want the download to finish.
I really just want to beat the 4th boss in Pizza Tower if I can, but I need a good chunk of time to myself to fully focus on it. Not sure if I'll get that opportunity, but that's my goal this weekend. Aside from that, I just started up Oxenfree II, which I got for a few bucks on sale. Also, possibly some Splatoween today. I still haven't picked a team. I'm leaning towards Knight or Ninja, since I don't want mirror matches.
I've been getting a little more serious with Pizza Tower lately, after playing it on and off for over a month. I'm now on the 4th world and just unlocked the boss. I'm loving it the more I play. Hopefully it won't get too difficult the further I get in. I also really want to start Resident Evil before Halloween hits, but it really depends on how busy I get. I've got to throw a birthday party for my daughter, so there will be 7 girls running around the house and screaming...that's gonna be a lot of chaos to reign in and clean up after.
@Tipehtfomottob My wife and I played through It Takes Two on Switch and we had no issues whatsoever. I guess your mileage might vary if little performance issues bug you here and there, but we were never bothered by the performance on Switch. Obviously it would be best to play it in the most powerful console you own, but we didn't see the Switch version as a bad port at all.
I would be playing Zelda, but I always get a game for Christmas or my birthday, so I'll be waiting. I was months late to playing Mario Wonder with this kind of thing, but it was worth it in the end. I'm sure it'll be the same for Zelda.
Right now, I'm playing Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 and picking away bit by bit at Pizza Tower. I might play a co-op game with my wife too. Maybe Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons or Vitamin Connection.
If the review is in the process of being written and won't be posted today, it would be nice if Nintendolife could be first on the scene with a small article to say whether it runs at a consistent 30 FPS or not, then also just include that in the review later, as I'm sure everyone here would be wanting to read the review anyway. The performance is really the only thing holding me back from buying it today. Hopefully someone out on the internet reports on this day so I can just buy it.
My wife, daughter and I were so happy with the results here. My daughter's lifelong love of Callie and Marie was the cornerstone of our choice of Team Past. She fought HARD, darn it, and I fought hard, despite being really sick all weekend. We all fought hard, really, in both the splatfest and from us all being very sick over the course of a month. I was the last one to get better last night, just as Splatfest was ending, so it was a nice touch after 2 hard fought battles. They both made it to Ruler. I almost did, but I sat out some matches of Tricolor while nursing my sickness. It went so much better than last Splatfest. I was Team Bread and I know how it feels to get WIPED OUT.
We (especially my kid) loved the concerts. Especially the Three Wishes One. Also that venue when the lights first turned on was magical, and hearing the low hum as it was getting ready before that was atmospheric.
That final tricolor venue was amazing, even though I only played 4 times (I mostly coached my daughter in Tricolor as she fought [not backseat gaming. She actually appreciated me pointing where an enemy was coming from that she didn't see). But when I did play, I fell in love with that arena. The Rainbow Ikantation was better than my favourite song, Calamari Inkantation, and really pumped me up. My favourite moment was defending and exploshing people below as I held that signal on the block for pretty much the whole three minutes. My favourite moment of my daughter's is when she was defending. She splatted a Team Present guy named "Murder-something" who was picking up the ultra signal. She then pulls out a booyah bomb and Bette-Midlers the thing (Simpsons reference) into a post on their side of the spawn. He spawned and immediately ran into that booyah bomb. Mr. Murder stomped by lil 9 year old Chupachups. Sublime. That's my girl!
Congrats to everyone who participated. I know mirror matches sucked for Present, and the results sucked for Future, but I still hope there was still some fun in there, at least in the venue.
@HeadPirate LOL, my daughter has seen that concert on YouTube. She's seen the Squid Sisters, Off The Hook and Deep Cut in that style. She's just as mesmerized by those holograms now as she was watching the game when she was a baby.
Team Past, because when my daughter was a baby, she would sit in her playpen watching us play Splatoon on Wii U. Whenever Callie and Marie came up to dance during splatfests, she was MESMERIZED. Now she's almost 10, playing Splatoon 3, and Callie and Marie are still her favourite idols by a landslide.
I also just want to see Splatoon 4 take a more past oriented approach if possible. Or maybe it would mean that they would bring more classic Splatoon 1 map designs with proper flanking routes and make the game less spammy overall. A win in my book.
@angrybeef I fully agree with that. I wonder how much of the game reviewers actually played, because that game got straight-up CRUEL. I'm not interested in the sequel until I'm told otherwise. I'm not going through all of that all over again.
I'll be starting up Pizza Tower real soon, so I hope it's as good as they say. Also, depending on how far I get or if I need something calmer, I'm also planning on starting Animal Well soon.
This was the BEST announcement of the direct. I used to own Power Stone 1 back in the DC days, and I eventually sold it to get Power Stone 2. I regretted it because I liked the original more, but I still loved 2. A few years ago, I sold Power Stone 2 for a pretty penny, but I have never regretted selling a game more than that one. I'm infinitely happy to see this announcement! I'll be buying it Day One, just for these 2 games.
They missed an opportunity to make this game take place in the past and call it B4derlands (like Before-derlands). But I guess that would make it a Pre-Pre-Sequel being given a numbered entry, so it would be too confusing. Haha.
I just finished Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, which was awesome, and now I'm playing Cat Quest 3, which is pawesomer! And much more fierce than the lighthearted Prince of Persia. I'm pretty sure it's gonna be my GOTY. 😅
Im playing Splatoon 3 Splatfest (Team Bread!), as well as Primce of Persia: The Lost Crown. I really wish I was playing Cat Quest 3, but I already just bought a ton of games on sale, so it'll have to wait for a bit.
After +50 hours of play over the last 3 weeks, I finally finished off the main campaign for PowerWash Simulator. I had a really enjoyable and relaxing time with it, but now I'm ready for something challenging and fast paced, so I'm going to try booting up Gravity Circuit soon.
Braid was one of my first indie games ever on Xbox Live back in the day, and I absolutely hated it despite its praise. To this day, the majority of games I play are indies, but this one just felt cryptic and frustrating. Maybe the poor sales are a result of a game that didn't age as well as people thought, or maybe it just got lost in the shuffle at the wrong time.
@mlt I didn't like Symphonia or Abyss, but I really liked Xillia 1 and 2, so anything is possible. Oddly, my first Tales game was Legendia, and I loved that at the time (and everybody seems to hate it).
I very much agree with giving Star Ocean a go. Mainly The Second Story. One of the best JRPGs I've ever played.
Powerwash Simulator all the way! I just started it up for the first time yesterday and I'm hopelessly addicted. I think I've already clocked over 5 hours into it, and im sure there will be many more. It's the exact type of game I've been needing for awhile. Just something to relax and utterly chill out with. It's dumb, it's mindless, but I can't stop cleaning. I don't know what's wrong me with me, but I'm having a blast, so I'll just roll with it.
Oh my God! I actually predicted the final Splatfest theme! I brought this up to my wife months ago: Past, Present or Future. Because I thought it would make for the most interesting story/theme choice. I'm definitely picking Team Past. Who doesn't want to know about humanity or the war that happened?
@EarthboundBenjy Weird question, but did you know there's a button to make the ship sail faster in Suikoden 4? I remember feeling the same way, and then I accidentally pushed a button and the ship went faster...about halfway through my playthrough! Needless to say, that improved the experience for me. Haha.
I'm currently in my last 3 days of a 10 day vacation. I managed to beat Pikmin 4, Just Shapes & Beats, Stray (on PS4 [my Father's day present]), and Nuclear Blaze. All of them were awesome, and now I'm playing Solar Ash, which I'm loving. If I do manage to finish it before the long Canadian weekend is up, I may start Flynn: Son of Crimson as well, since I heard that's a short one, and I could go for a metroidvania soon.
The switch is my platform of choice since I find it very convenient to play in handheld mode. That being said, for Father's Day, I JUST recieved Stray on PS4 after expressing an interest in it for ages. So I guess I'm playing it tethered to the TV then. Seriously, what are the odds, though?
Last week, I went to my local Gamestop and sold a TON of older manga that I had picked up in thrift stores for dirt cheap prices over the years. I sold so much, that I had put my local Gamestop store as #1 in all of Canada for having manga sold to them. I ended up getting over $400 in in-store credit (in which I used most on eshop credit), and went on a massive eshop buying spree.
I picked up 20XX, 30XX, Flynn Son of Crimson, Carrion, TMNT Cowabunga Collection, Outer Wilds, Prince of Persia The Lost Crown, Paradise Killer, Kaze and the Wild Masks, Solar Ash, Easy Come Easy Golf, Powerslave Exhumed and Animal Well. I also picked up Pikmin 4 physically from Gamestop, and I have some money left over to buy Cat Quest 3 and Steamworld Heist 2 in August.
So I'll be playing Pikmin 4 today, as well as some Splatoon 3 this weekend. I've gotten addicted to and proficient with the Explosher, and im having an absolute blast.
@Bobb it was really worth it. I was incredibly apprehensive, but I got some Christmas money one year and decided to take the risk after seeing many reviews. It really axed all of the elements that I hated from Dark Moon. The only thing the original has on it is that I like the creepy design of the mansion, and more unique ghosts. But overall, it's really that repetitive mission structure that absolutely killed Dark Moon for me, so if you feel the same, I think there's a good chance that you would enjoy 3. Oh, and the bosses are much better than Dark Moon as well (especially that Clock Tower one. UGH).
I couldn't stand this game. The repetitive structure of the game killed it for me, being broken into the same 5 or 6 mini missions throughout the whole game that would keep reoccurring. It didn't feel atmospheric or creative like Luigi's Mansion 1. I almost didn't buy Luigi's Mansion 3 after this one, but luckily, it improved on all of 2's faults. I don't know why I forced myself to beat Dark Moon back then (probably to try to justify the money I spent at the time). If I could save one person from having a bad time with this one, it would be worth it. Don't make the same mistake I did.
After finishing Unicorn Overlord, Little Kitty Big City and Tinykin last weekend (all of which were awesome games), I'm now giving Cursed to Golf a shot. I picked it up on sale a few weeks ago (it's also on sale now), and I just played the tutorial. The blend of golf and roguelite seems like a fun concept to mess around with before I go to my next big game.
EDIT: Forget it, tried it. Hated it. Gonna play a different game instead.
I'm also playing quite a bit of Splatoon 3, with the new update. I tried the Mint Decavitator and it's enjoyable to use, but I'm not sure it fits my playstyle as something I want to stick with. And the Wellspring...I just suck with bows, so that's a nope. I'm gonna stick with my Explosher. The train station is a very fun map though.
The first game had a lot of potential. I loved the visuals, music and the feel of the grapple mechanic, but the later levels became so cruelly designed that it killed a lot of the fun for me. Thank God for the accessibility options or I would have completely lost my patience and dropped it. I hope this time they have a more gradual difficulty curve and can restrain themselves from having brutal and punishing final levels in the next game. I'll just wait for it to go on sale to be safe.
Even though I was on Team Save the Day and our team lost horribly, I had the best Splatfest ever. My daughter, wife and I won 100x battle by a 1% difference, we won a 10x battle too, we won something like 18 games and only lost 7, and my 9 year old daughter improved dramatically in the game, getting better scores than my wife and I even though we're more experienced (my favourite moment was seeing my daughter stamp 4 people in the span of a couple of seconds). It was so much fun, that I dont even care who the winner is (congrats to Team Bucket List too)!
I always thought the new Switch should be in a clamshell case like the DS models. Then it could be called "Nintendo Flip", since you open and close it.
I just think going from something like Switch, to Flip, would make a lot of sense.

Ah, I just looked it up again, and my Top 3 were:
1. Splatoon 3 - 176 hours
2. Unicorn Overlord - 59 hours
3. Powerwash Simulator - 54 hours.
My most active month was July. Probably because of Powerwash Simulator. That game had me insanely hooked for a month.

@PikminMarioKirby I totally agree. Maybe just some Prince of Persia in there for good measure and I think things would be perfect.

I also just want to see Splatoon 4 take a more past oriented approach if possible. Or maybe it would mean that they would bring more classic Splatoon 1 map designs with proper flanking routes and make the game less spammy overall. A win in my book.
Re: Review: Grapple Dogs: Cosmic Canines (Switch) - A Purebreed Platformer & Fantastic Follow-Up
@angrybeef I fully agree with that. I wonder how much of the game reviewers actually played, because that game got straight-up CRUEL. I'm not interested in the sequel until I'm told otherwise. I'm not going through all of that all over again.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (31st August)
I'll be starting up Pizza Tower real soon, so I hope it's as good as they say. Also, depending on how far I get or if I need something calmer, I'm also planning on starting Animal Well soon.
Re: 'Power Stone' Is Coming To Switch In 'Capcom Fighting Collection 2'
This was the BEST announcement of the direct. I used to own Power Stone 1 back in the DC days, and I eventually sold it to get Power Stone 2. I regretted it because I liked the original more, but I still loved 2. A few years ago, I sold Power Stone 2 for a pretty penny, but I have never regretted selling a game more than that one. I'm infinitely happy to see this announcement! I'll be buying it Day One, just for these 2 games.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (24th August)
Cassette Beasts for me. I don't even like Pokémon and haven't really had any interest in the thought of playing a monster-collecting/battling game, but I decided to go outside of my comfort zone to keep gaming from getting stale. I'm actually pleasantly surprised. I'm enjoying myself quite a bit with this one. SMT/Persona was the closest thing to Pokémon in terms of battles for me, but now I can say that I like something more Pokemon-ish.
Re: Borderlands 4 Has Been Officially Announced, Here's The Teaser Trailer
They missed an opportunity to make this game take place in the past and call it B4derlands (like Before-derlands). But I guess that would make it a Pre-Pre-Sequel being given a numbered entry, so it would be too confusing. Haha.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (17th August)
I just finished Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, which was awesome, and now I'm playing Cat Quest 3, which is pawesomer! And much more fierce than the lighthearted Prince of Persia. I'm pretty sure it's gonna be my GOTY. 😅
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (10th August)
Im playing Splatoon 3 Splatfest (Team Bread!), as well as Primce of Persia: The Lost Crown. I really wish I was playing Cat Quest 3, but I already just bought a ton of games on sale, so it'll have to wait for a bit.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (3rd August)
After +50 hours of play over the last 3 weeks, I finally finished off the main campaign for PowerWash Simulator. I had a really enjoyable and relaxing time with it, but now I'm ready for something challenging and fast paced, so I'm going to try booting up Gravity Circuit soon.
Re: Braid: Anniversary Edition Sales Have Been "Utterly Terrible", Says Creator
Braid was one of my first indie games ever on Xbox Live back in the day, and I absolutely hated it despite its praise. To this day, the majority of games I play are indies, but this one just felt cryptic and frustrating. Maybe the poor sales are a result of a game that didn't age as well as people thought, or maybe it just got lost in the shuffle at the wrong time.
Re: Rumour: 'Tales Of Xillia Remastered' Switch Release Spotted Online
@mlt I didn't like Symphonia or Abyss, but I really liked Xillia 1 and 2, so anything is possible. Oddly, my first Tales game was Legendia, and I loved that at the time (and everybody seems to hate it).
I very much agree with giving Star Ocean a go. Mainly The Second Story. One of the best JRPGs I've ever played.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (20th July)
Re: Surprise! New Splatoon 3 amiibo Are On The Way
Oh my God! I actually predicted the final Splatfest theme! I brought this up to my wife months ago: Past, Present or Future. Because I thought it would make for the most interesting story/theme choice. I'm definitely picking Team Past. Who doesn't want to know about humanity or the war that happened?
Re: Ys X: Nordics Lands On Switch In The West This October
@EarthboundBenjy Weird question, but did you know there's a button to make the ship sail faster in Suikoden 4? I remember feeling the same way, and then I accidentally pushed a button and the ship went faster...about halfway through my playthrough! Needless to say, that improved the experience for me. Haha.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (29th June)
Re: Hands On: 'Hello Kitty Island Adventure' Was By Far Our Biggest Surprise Of Summer Game Fest
Some people may play World of Warcraft, but I'm playing Hello Kitty, Island Adventure.
(As Butters once predicted).
Re: 2022's Kitty Hit 'Stray' Is Coming To Switch For The Holidays
The switch is my platform of choice since I find it very convenient to play in handheld mode. That being said, for Father's Day, I JUST recieved Stray on PS4 after expressing an interest in it for ages. So I guess I'm playing it tethered to the TV then. Seriously, what are the odds, though?
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (15th June)
Re: Hands On: Luigi's Mansion 2 HD Delivers More Than Just A Hi-Def Upgrade
@Bobb it was really worth it. I was incredibly apprehensive, but I got some Christmas money one year and decided to take the risk after seeing many reviews. It really axed all of the elements that I hated from Dark Moon. The only thing the original has on it is that I like the creepy design of the mansion, and more unique ghosts. But overall, it's really that repetitive mission structure that absolutely killed Dark Moon for me, so if you feel the same, I think there's a good chance that you would enjoy 3. Oh, and the bosses are much better than Dark Moon as well (especially that Clock Tower one. UGH).
Re: Hands On: Luigi's Mansion 2 HD Delivers More Than Just A Hi-Def Upgrade
Re: Digital Eclipse Reveals Brutal Action-Platformer 'Völgarr The Viking II'
Oh God, a sequel to the hardest game I've ever played?
No thanks.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (1st June)
Re: Delightful GBA-Style Platformer 'Grapple Dog' Is Getting A Sequel This August
Re: Team Bucket List Triumphs In Splatoon 3's Apocalypse-Themed Splatfest
Even though I was on Team Save the Day and our team lost horribly, I had the best Splatfest ever. My daughter, wife and I won 100x battle by a 1% difference, we won a 10x battle too, we won something like 18 games and only lost 7, and my 9 year old daughter improved dramatically in the game, getting better scores than my wife and I even though we're more experienced (my favourite moment was seeing my daughter stamp 4 people in the span of a couple of seconds). It was so much fun, that I dont even care who the winner is (congrats to Team Bucket List too)!
Re: Rumour: Switch Successor's Codename May Have Been Uncovered
@fR0z3nS0u1 Haha, I made my post, then looked up a couple of comments and you were thinking the same thing! I knew it makes sense!
Re: Rumour: Switch Successor's Codename May Have Been Uncovered
I always thought the new Switch should be in a clamshell case like the DS models. Then it could be called "Nintendo Flip", since you open and close it.
I just think going from something like Switch, to Flip, would make a lot of sense.
