I'll be picking up this one for my daughter. She absolutely loves games like Lil Gator Game, A Short Hike, and Alba: An Island Adventure. I'm sure she'll love this one too (as will I. All those games I mentioned are awesome).
After finishing Freedom Planet 2 last weekend (an absolutely phenomenal game, which would probably fit into my Top 5 Sonic games if I could), I decided to boot up Gunbrella (made by the devs of Gato Roboto). It's quite good so far, but I just wish my demo progress would have carried over.
I'll probably also play some more Splatoon 3, as I want to get in some more practice with the sniper. It's such a difficult weapon to learn, but I often play with my wife and daughter, and we always wish we had a sniper on our team. It's gonna be quite a feat to try and accomplish.
Downwell, Cuphead, Cyber Shadow, Spelunky 1 and 2, Death's Door and Neon White should be on this list. I'm sure there are many more, but those are some from the top of my head. Splatoon 3 online can also get rather stressful at times.
That's awesome that they released a demo. I was looking forward to it for a long time, but then reviews stopped me from buying it.
And then I played the demo, and I don't like it. Thanks Evening Star, for saving me some money. I was gonna wait for it to go on sale before buying, but this game really isn't my thing. It's a shame, because the trailers made it look way more fun than it really was.
I just played through that whole Gunbrella demo because the game is on sale. I really loved what I played, and it offered a whole hour and a half of demo...but the save didn't carry over. I still bought the game, but I'm going to wait a bit to replay everything all over again.
In the meantime, I just started up Freedom Planet 2, and it's such an eye-popping, polished game. I've been waiting 10 years for this one and it does not disappoint.
Even though I would love to see Muramasa on the Switch, I would vastly prefer the Odin Sphere remake. Absolutely fantastic game right there. Even Dragon's Crown would be a better fit for the Switch, with its pick up and play co-op nature. Muramasa is still great, but it does get a bit repetitive in its latter half compared to the other two games.
@-wc- You don't actually need to create an account. You can select the Log-in function, and then cancel out of it and play the game. Sparks of Hope did the same thing. However, I wouldn't really recommend either game. SoH was disappointing, and I tried the Lost Crown demo for half an hour, and I didn't like the feel of it (and I have enjoyed a few past PoP games, and I love metroidvanias, but I felt very meh about it). Not enough to pay $40 Canadian for it anyway. Maybe if it goes on sale for $15, I'll give the demo another chance someday.
For the record, I feel the annoyance on the Ubisoft sign in stuff. I don't advocate it either. Just stating factually that there is a way around it, even though it's not that obvious.
Pepper Grinder! I played a good amount yesterday, and I imagine I'll probably finish it up today, or tomorrow at max. It may be short, but ive genuinely enjoyed every single moment of it. For those who are in the dark, at least try the demo. The game is bloody brilliant and deserves more attention.
My family and I are also going to try to beat Mario Wonder today, and we'll probably try to get some Splatoon 1 online in before its gone forever.
I'm on the 3rd world so far and have enjoyed every second of gameplay! I seriously think it may be a GOTY contender for me. That was pretty cool seeing Sonic and Gurren Lagann on the inspirations. Some of my favourite things of all time. And the amount of care he put into the movement in this game really shows!
NICE! I'm picking this up as soon as I get home from work. I highly encourage anyone with even the slightest interest in platforming games to at least download the demo and give it a go. There wasn't a single second that I wasn't entertained with this one. Also, 4 to 6 hours sounds like the perfect length to me. It's a plus in my book.
I'm incredibly hyped about Pepper Grinder, and it makes me sad to see no hype around it. The demo was a 10/10 experience for me. I'm looking forward to downloading it as soon as I get home from work. I really hope the review is positive. The demo was so much fun. It's rare to find such fluid movement in a platformer.
I just beat the game last weekend (I loved it on the PS1, too), but I wouldn't touch Chaos mode anyway. It's cool that there's extra stuff being added in, if I give it another go someday in the future. I totally recommend this game though. One of the best RPGs I've ever played.
Whew, I'm grateful for this article. I'm going to get this game for my wife for Mother's Day (it's one of her favourite games of all time and her most anticipated game this year). I'm in Canada and it's still in stock on Amazon, so I just preordered it right this second. I had no idea that it would be selling out so fast.
Even if the article is inaccurate, I was going to preorder it soon anyway. Better safe than sorry, in my case.
I'm about halfway through Star Ocean: The Second Story R, so that will pretty much be my weekend with gaming. Still to this day, it's got to be on my Top 3 RPGs. I did Claude's story in the past, and it's been very fresh seeing Rena's perspective this time. I'll also be playing more Super Mario Wonder with my family. I've already beaten it by myself, but now we're in the Fungi Mines together. It's been my daughter's first real Mario game and she's loving it.
I imagine I'll make some decent progress in Star Ocean: The Second Story R those weekend. I started it last weekend (I feel that ive become pretty much a weekend-only gamer lately), and I chose Rena's Story, since I've done Claude's twice on the PS1. I'm loving the new visuals, but I don't remember the game being this easy in the beginning. I've even tried it on the hardest mode. Hopefully I'm just misreembering things and the battles last more than 2 seconds in the future.
If I have time, I really need to play some more Balatro (didn't feel a compulsion to play it over the week. I thought it was implied that I wouldn't be able to put it down). Still, I am very interested in putting some more time into it. I really liked what I've played so far.
Also, maybe some Splatoon 3 turf war with my family. After beating Side Order with the octobrush, I made a switch to the Painbrush in online battles, and im finally finding a useful weapon for nearly any kind of scenario.
I kinda wanna try Balatro after hearing a lot about it. I'm thinking of picking up an eshop card today and going for it. Other than that, more Side Order for sure. I made it to the final boss last weekend and got killed JUST before taking it down. I need some payback.
EDIT: I just took down the final boss. It was awesome! GOTY for me so far. I'll definitely be playing more of it with different weapons.
I jumped into the Pepper Grinder and Unicorn Overlord demos last night as well, and both were fantastic. Pepper Grinder has this amazing sense of movement (and awesome level design so far), and I really need more of it. Unicorn Overlord is gorgeous, and had me sucked into its world immediately.
I also played some Side Order for the first time last night and loved what I played. I'll definitely be playing more of it this weekend. I died fast to that first boss and really want to give it another go.
Halo is all I've ever wanted on the Switch. The series is incredibly important to me, as Halo was the first game I ever played with my wife when we started dating. I was a shy, anxiety-ridden mess at the time, but Halo was such a good ice-breaker. Something we really connected with and grew closer together when playing co-op. I still have it on my original Xbox, but I stopped buying their consoles after going through three dead 360s. I would totally buy the series on Switch though.
I'm not interested in any of these new Steamworld games, and I bought them all up until Quest. I just want Dig 3 with 2 player co-op with Rusty and Dorothy.
No thanks. I beat the base game last year, and while I did like it, it overstayed its welcome by the end and eventually felt pretty repetitive. It was still a solid game, but in my opinion, the last thing it needs is extra content.
I loved the developers last game (Going Under), so I'm going to be keeping a close eye on this one. I'm not a fan of Souls-like games though, but if this one is more forgiving, I'm all for giving it a shot.
It was pretty good. Penny's Big Breakaway, Another Crab's Treasure, Suika Game DLC and Pocket Card Jockey are all things of interest for my wife and I. And of course, I'll probably be picking up Unicorn Overlord this year as well.
Super Mario Wonder, since I got it for my birthday last week, but have barely had a chance to play it (only made it to World 2), since I've been so busy all week. Really enjoying myself so far. It isn't mind-blowing by any means, but it's very consistently fun, which is what really matters. Also, I bought a little party game called Toasterball, so my wife and I may boot it up and give it a few rounds. Looks like a lot of stupid fun, which seems right up my alley. Oh, and Splatoon 3 Splatfest. My family and I are on Team Friday. We were getting slaughtered by Team Saturday last night, but then we did happen to win our first 10x battle ever, so that was nice at least.
Also, for my birthday, I happened to get Star Ocean: The Second Story R (a remake of one of my favourite PS1 games), and an eshop card which I used to preorder Splatoon 3: Side Order (I can't wait to try it next week) and the TMNT: Shredder's Revenge DLC. I'm excited to get to all of these in the near future.
You know, when i first saw the Sonic Superstars trailer, I was far more excited about it than Mario Wonder. It looked like everything I could want on the surface. But then I heard it was developed by Artoon, who made Yoshi's Island DS (which I hated) and Balan Wonderworld. Then my hopes dropped through the floor.
Upon checking out reviews on Superstars, I noticed it was said to have all the things I don't want to see in my Sonic games. They could have had my purchase on Day 1 if this was the Sonic Mania devs, or if Sonic Mania 2 was made. I even bought Sonic Origins Plus full price and was satisfied with that. I won't even buy Superstars on its frequent sales for 50% off. Even 80 or 90% off sounds like a waste of time to me.
Needless to say, it was just my birthday, and I asked for Mario Wonder. I'm playing it now and loving the amount of polish it has. It may not be groundbreaking, but it is very fun. A little polish goes a long way, Sega.
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. It's such an awesome callback to Jet Grind Radio so far. The retro graphical style doesn't detract at all. It really fits if you've played the games it was inspired from. And the soundtrack just SLAPS. I just can't get enuf.
Also, my 9 year old daughter just finished BOTW last night. She absolutely loved it, and she already wants to play TOTK. I told her to take a break though since both games are so similar. She's got other Christmas games to finish first. Haha.
Last weekend I managed to finish Persona 5 Tactica, so now I'm playing some smaller stuff until I get Mario Wonder on my birthday in early February. I'm in the middle of one of the Quake 2 expansions (The Reckoning), and my wife and I are playing some Overcooked with our daughter. I might give the Vampire Survivors Adventure mode a shot too.
I'll be trying to finish up Persona 5 Tactica, and possibly playing some multiplayer games like Splatoon 3, Boomerang Fu, Towerfall Ascension or Overcooked with my family. After that, I'll take a short single player gaming break until almost mid-February, as I know Mario Wonder will be waiting for me for my birthday.
Splatoon 3 Frostyfest and Persona 5 Tactica for me. I'm on the third area of P5T, which seems like it's possibly approaching the final story beats. I doubt I'll finish it this weekend though, as I seem to be slowing down how fast I've been beating games in general. It must be due to turning 40 soon. I also wish I was playing Prince of Persia Lost Crown, but I would rather wait for a Ubisoft sale in 6 months and buy it for 75% off.
I'm over 15 hours into Persona 5 Tactica right now, so I'll be continuing to roll with that. It's pretty good so far. At times, the combat can feel a little basic/repetitive, but I still do enjoy it for the most part. I just wish my characters would naturally cover more ground. I often find that I'm JUST out of reach whenever I get a Triple Threat Attack, so I can't take advantage of targeting multiple enemies. When it does work out though, it's awesome. Also, the music is banging, and I'm surprisingly into the story, even though it's very much a side story.
Also, I'll be playing some Lego Harry Potter with my daughter. She got it for Christmas, and I've been playing it with her. We're almost done Year 2, and she's having a blast. It's a surprisingly decent game.
Last weekend, after finishing up my Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed DLC, I decided to boot up my copy of Persona 5 Tactica that I picked up on sale. I haven't had time or energy to play anymore since I went back to work this week, so I'll be playing more of that. In fact, I'm off work now until January 8th, so I'll have plenty of time to get invested. I'm really enjoying it so far, since I'm a fan of the whole xcom-cover-based tactics type of gameplay. Plus, the game is cute as heck.
I'm close to the end of Chapter 4 of Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed, so I'll be trying to wrap that up this weekend before Christmas. It's pretty awesome so far. I may dig into P5 Tactica or Bomb Rush Cyberfunk after finishing it as well.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed for me. I'm on Chapter 2, and have recently gotten my party of 6. The massive boss fight that led up to that moment was glorious. Hopefully I can get some decent playtime in this weekend and wrap it up by Christmas.
@infernogott Oh yeah! Of course! You're so right. Argh, I completely forgot about that. I associated it so heavily with the Dreamcast that I thought it was Sega. Well, regardless of the Sega news, then I guess Capcom really needs to bring that one back 😅.
Aside from Jet Grind Radio and Crazy Taxi, all I really want is a new Power Stone. Okay, maybe also PSO, Skies of Arcadia, and House of the Dead, but Power Stone is my #1 want. I'll even just take a port at the very least.
I think I'll be picking up the Xenoblade 3 DLC this weekend so I can play Future Redeemed. I wanted to play something new that I know I'll absolutely enjoy over the holidays. This will be the last big hurrah of 2023 for me.
I'll also be playing some Shock Troopers: 2nd Squad, which I picked up on sale last week. My wife and I love the first Shock Troopers on my Neo Geo MVSX arcade, so we'll give this one a playthrough. And maybe some more Scott Pilgrim vs the World: The Game with my wife and daughter. We were thinking of trying a few more party games with her afterwards, like Overcooked and Towerfall Ascension, but we'll see how much time we have.
@wazlon it was only a couple of days of downloading stuff. Honestly, it was worth it so I don't ever have to worry about storage space on my switch again.
I've been playing the "Download my massive library onto my new 1TB memory card" game over the last couple days straight. I downloaded about 600 GB worth of games (over 300 games in total). That was fun. Maybe I can actually play something now, if I can comb through all the icons and decide upon something.
@NintendoDad Haha yeah, my wife and I started to watch the Netflix series last night. It's a great adaptation so far. I'm from Ontario too, just not Toronto.
More Quake 2 - Call of the Machine expansion for me, and some Splatoon 3 Splatfest (Team Hug) with my family. My wife and I are also finally playing Scott Pilgrim vs the World: The Game with our 9 year old daughter. It's awesome to experience one of our favourite games with her. She loves beat em ups, and she's taking to it very well.
I thought it was abysmal, other than Shantae and the Outer Wilds. But the rest of it was a big bore. So many detective games, and just visually bland games overall.
@DaniPooo wow, that was a longer reply than I was expecting. I was only replying in the context to this article that if it were based on a particular game, they would theme it around what sells (BOTW/TOTK). I believed they would do their own take on the franchise as a whole regardless, without sticking to a particular game, but I figured most people would already state that. Hence, my original comment.

Re: QubicGames Launches New Year Giveaway With 12 Free Switch Games (US)
I did the first one years ago. Downloaded em all, played none. I'm not clogging up my re-downloads or library even more.
Re: Rumour: Microsoft Will Bring Critically Acclaimed Exclusive To "Competitor System" This Year
Oh God, please be the Halo Trilogy. That's all I've ever wanted on the Switch.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 6th)
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend?
Last weekend, after finishing up my Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed DLC, I decided to boot up my copy of Persona 5 Tactica that I picked up on sale. I haven't had time or energy to play anymore since I went back to work this week, so I'll be playing more of that. In fact, I'm off work now until January 8th, so I'll have plenty of time to get invested. I'm really enjoying it so far, since I'm a fan of the whole xcom-cover-based tactics type of gameplay. Plus, the game is cute as heck.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (Christmas 2023 Edition)
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 16th)
Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed for me. I'm on Chapter 2, and have recently gotten my party of 6. The massive boss fight that led up to that moment was glorious. Hopefully I can get some decent playtime in this weekend and wrap it up by Christmas.
Re: Sega Plans To Revive Even "More" Legacy Franchises
@infernogott Oh yeah! Of course! You're so right. Argh, I completely forgot about that. I associated it so heavily with the Dreamcast that I thought it was Sega. Well, regardless of the Sega news, then I guess Capcom really needs to bring that one back 😅.
Re: Sega Plans To Revive Even "More" Legacy Franchises
Aside from Jet Grind Radio and Crazy Taxi, all I really want is a new Power Stone. Okay, maybe also PSO, Skies of Arcadia, and House of the Dead, but Power Stone is my #1 want. I'll even just take a port at the very least.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 9th)
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 25th)
@wazlon it was only a couple of days of downloading stuff. Honestly, it was worth it so I don't ever have to worry about storage space on my switch again.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 25th)
I've been playing the "Download my massive library onto my new 1TB memory card" game over the last couple days straight. I downloaded about 600 GB worth of games (over 300 games in total). That was fun. Maybe I can actually play something now, if I can comb through all the icons and decide upon something.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 18th)
@NintendoDad Haha yeah, my wife and I started to watch the Netflix series last night. It's a great adaptation so far. I'm from Ontario too, just not Toronto.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 18th)
Re: Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution Is Bringing The Lost GBA Adventure To Switch Next Year
One of the only good announcements of the Direct. I haven't missed a Shantae game yet, so I'll be picking this up for sure.
Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate That Nintendo Indie World Showcase?
I thought it was abysmal, other than Shantae and the Outer Wilds. But the rest of it was a big bore. So many detective games, and just visually bland games overall.
Re: Talking Point: Which Zelda Game Should Be Adapted For The Movie?
@DaniPooo oh I missed that on the vote. Guess I wasn't paying enough attention.
Re: Talking Point: Which Zelda Game Should Be Adapted For The Movie?
@DaniPooo wow, that was a longer reply than I was expecting. I was only replying in the context to this article that if it were based on a particular game, they would theme it around what sells (BOTW/TOTK). I believed they would do their own take on the franchise as a whole regardless, without sticking to a particular game, but I figured most people would already state that. Hence, my original comment.
