@SMGstudio Unfortunately, we played the game at launch, so the time extend and skip modes weren't available. While I do appreciate assist modes, it would have been better if those levels weren't so unforgiving. I think it's more important to iron out the rough edges beforehand rather than providing a band-aid after the damage has been done. It's good to hear that the sequel tones it down, but we're very particular about a smooth difficulty curve, so I don't think we'll be biting a second time. Perhaps if we ended up playing the sequel as our first Moving Out experience our opinion would be different, but wow...I'm still salty about those guava juice levels all of these years later. And yes, solo is usually harder than co-op, but it was literally the only way I was able to pass those levels at the time.
Anyway, sorry, this wasnt meant to come off as a rageful post or anything. I hope things have improved for your sequel, I really do. We really did love the first half of the original game, so hopefully if the sequel as a whole is closer to that, maybe we might try it on a sale someday.
After playing through the first game, I dont trust review scores for the sequel. It was good for the most part, but those guava juice levels were so incredibly frustrating and downright impossible in co op (I had to finish them solo because there was literally zero room for error and you would have to essentially be telepathic to maneuver just right through everything). The difficulty spike was legendary and almost ruined the whole game for my wife and I. I have a feeling that most reviewers only played the first half and slapped a number on it. So yeah, that killed my interest in a sequel (which is a real shame because I love the concept and first half of the original).
I knew Team Money was going to win, because seemingly all of the best players pick Shiver no matter what. That being said, I still went with Team Love since that's what my family values more. I'll probably pick Shiver for representing topics I don't care about either way, but the point is to pick the side you want to fight for, right? I'm still glad I went for Team Love. I had a great time playing with my kid and that's my win at the end of the day.
I'll have the house to myself for half a day for the first time in a very long time, so I bought Quake II to binge during that time. Old school FPS games are like a comfort food for me, and Quake II is one that I've missed, so I'm really looking forward to it.
I may also play some more Crosscode this weekend. I'm at the first main dungeon and there is a LOT of puzzles, but I'm not overwhelmed yet. I've actually been having a lot of fun so far.
Oh, and possibly some Splatoon 3 splatfest. My daughter picked Team Love, so naturally that's what I'll be going with. I know I could pick Team Money, since Shiver normally wins, but Love is obviously more important for my family, so I'll be representing.
I'm halfway through Oracle of Seasons, so probably that. The first 3 dungeons and journeys leading up to them were fine, but starting with the journey to the 4th dungeon..things are getting unnecessarily cryptic and just not fun. I hope the game can turn itself around, but I'm losing confidence. I'll also try to play some more Keywe with my wife. If I dump Oracle of Seasons (or beat it), I may start up some Crosscode next.
If I can get the time, I'll be trying to finish up Nobody Saves The World. It's been fun for the most part, but the late game has required too much grinding, and now I'm starting to feel a little burned out. I'm in the final area though, so I may as well try to push for the finish line.
EDIT: There! I just beat it. A really good game overall, even though it's a bit long in the tooth.
After this, I'll have to make the decision to play Crosscode or SMTV. Or possibly a smaller game of a different genre, but I really don't know if I have a good palette cleanser on hand. I may play some Keywe with my wife, or Splatoon 2 with my kid, if anything.
All they literally need to do, is make Super Smash Bros Ultimate Deluxe (or Plus) and add new characters and stages and more waves of DLC on top of what they already have. It would still be a complete package and (hopefully) satisfy fans who didnt get their picks into Ultimate. Easy move.
Mostly Nobody Saves The World. I'm around halfway or so through, and its growing on me more as time goes on. At first, I found it a little overwhelming with the amount of quests there were to do, but now I'm finding myself hooked for play sessions that last hours on end. I may also play a little Keywe with my wife tonight as well. The game is cute and interesting, but I can only handle it in smaller bursts, as some missions get particularly stressful.
Splatoon 3 splatfest for me. Team Vanilla despite it's questionable colour choice. Also a little bit of Jojo all Star Battle R, and maybe I'll start up something new like Nobody Saves The World.
I'm going to continue playing this co-op game with my wife called Keywe. It's similar to Overcooked but it's about playing as two kiwi birds in a mail sorting room. It's actually a lot of fun and requires a lot of communication to get through the stages. I'll also continue some Cult of the Lamb. I've got one major boss down but I didnt realize that I needed more followers to open up the other Crusade doors, so I gotta grind the first Crusade door for a bit.
My wife and I just finished It Takes Two yesterday. One of the best co op games we've ever played. It was so incredibly varied, and was a blast from beginning to end. Now we're playing another co op game, Keywe. It's a super cute game about playing as two kiwi birds working in a mail station. It's got Overcooked-like vibes, but it's more thought provoking and focuses even more on communication. We're loving it so far from the intro stages we've played.
I bought Origins Plus so I never experienced it in it's base form, but there have been little things that have made a huge difference to me. Having Tails being able to fly in Sonic 2 and airlift you around is awesome, getting rid of lives in the anniversary mode is a cool inclusion, I love the addition of Mirror mode, and playing as Amy now is something I never would have dreamed about 20 to 30 years ago. I dont mind the GG games. I don't understand the complaining about the absence of Spinball, 3D Blast and Chaotix, since they're all relatively average games, just like the GG ones. And for complaints about the music track changes in the base game, this compilation simply wouldnt exist due to licensing issues if it wasnt changed. And I love those original tracks, but I would rather get to play the game on current gen hardware rather than not getting anything at all. I dunno, I'm super happy with the collection as a long time Sonic fan. And I got the physical version too. Sure, the download code kind of sucks, but I'm over it already.
I just got my copy of Sonic Origins Plus, so I would like to check out a bit of content in it. I played a little bit of Amy in Sonic 2 and it was so neat how seamlessly she was integrated. I'll also play a bit of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle R, perhaps some Keywe or It Takes Two with my wife since she finally finished TOTK last night, and maybe I'll give Cult of the Lamb a try, since I got it for Father's Day.
I found it pretty terrible, personally. The only things I liked were Star Ocean 2 (highlight of the direct), and Mario Wonder looked pretty good (also, Sonic Superstars and P5T may appeal to me, but I already knew about those earlier). I hate Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, and I dont like Super Mario RPG at all despite its rabid fandom. I dont really care for Wario Ware, I dont like anything Pokemon, and I thought it was ridiculous to mention a splatfest like it was a big deal. I guess Mario Kart 8 DLC is always a good thing, but I knew it was coming, and just saying "Summer" doesnt generate excitement. Releasing it now would have been better. And then there was a bunch of other stuff I didnt care about. So yeah, a super disappointing direct.
Wow, I can't believe I'm in such a low percentage. I've beaten the game and moved on. I logged 105 hours into it and had a great time, but I've been done for 2 or 3 weeks, and I've beaten 5 games since then (Ion Fury, Steel Assault, Unsighted, Super Meat Boy Forever and Kirby: Return to Dreamland Deluxe).
I just beat Unsighted last night, which was a fun little Zelda-like. I started some Super Meat Boy Forever (which I picked up for under $3 on sale), and I may also start up some Jojo All Star Battle R and/or some Cult of the Lamb.
Oh my God yes! I would buy this in a heartbeat! I've been waiting YEARS for this. It's one of, if not my favourite PS1 RPG. I've still got it on PS1, but I'd much rather play it on Switch.
I would go nuts for a sequel since this is one of my favourite games ever made, but the game wraps up it's story perfectly and really doesn't need a sequel. I would suggest a sequel with completely different characters though. Maybe they could cross paths with some of the characters from the first game, but yeah, it should be told from the perspective of a new protagonist.
I've beaten a couple of games since I wrapped up TOTK a couple weeks ago (Ion Fury and Steel Assault). I started up Unsighted a couple of days ago, and got really hooked on it last night. It feels like a mashup of Zelda and Hyperlight Drifter, and I'm loving it so far. I imagine I'll also be playing some Splatoon 2 with my family. My kid is hooked on it (we decided to have her go with 2 instead of 3 since it's less competitive).
The clear answer for me is Lil Gator Game. Seriously.
But if we're talking about Zelda, then BOTW for me. I really enjoyed TOTK (I've finished it), but that calm in BOTW won me over more. However, Lil Gator Game is so chill and charming, that its #1 in my book.
In terms of casual play, seriously, play Splatoon 2. It's awesome. I jump between it and 3 for different reasons. I jump back and play Splatoon 2 for my 8 year old daughter. My kid, wife and I all have copies, and since it's such a chill experience, its really helped my daughter learn the basics. We all have fun playing it together. When my wife and I play Switch after the kid goes to bed, we play Splatoon 3 sometimes. And yeah, we kind of get torn to shreds sometimes. I can have games with 16 splats in Splatoon 2, wiping out the entire other team twice in a row and beating them 92 to 8%, but then get absolutely slaughtered by a single person in Splatoon 3 and experience the same defeat. Needless to say, we play more 2 these days because we typically play with our kid, but we really want to dive back into 3 for the summer content...after my wife finishes TOTK (I've already finished my copy).
I should be wrapping up TOTK pretty soon. I've definitely got over 80 hours, about 110 shrines, the surface and most of the sky discovered, and a good portion of the depths, all the memories, 27 hearts, an extra stamina wheel and the master sword. I haven't side quested that much though. They're not really for me. I have a decent amount of outfits, and the only thing I need is a bit more resources before fighting Ganon.
I'm starting to get a little burned out on the game. It's still great for the most part, but it is FAR from a 10/10 game for me. Probably a solid 8/10 though.
It fails in only one category for me: Dungeons. They're basically divine beasts without rotation and I'm extremely disappointed. The only one I kind of enjoyed was the Zora one (I havent done Gerudo yet), but it was way too short. I miss the intricately designed dungeons of old. Even A Link Between Worlds proved it could work without finding an item in a dungeon. I can't believe they couldnt fix this after 6 years.
Other than that, the game is near perfect and I'm enjoying it immensely. But it's this kind of thing that takes it down from a 10 to a 9 for me.
My wife has played over 65 hours and I've played over 70 hours. It's been the craziest amount of gaming I've done in years, but honestly, the numbers aren't surprising us. I've unlocked all of the surface and most of the sky, but havent really touched the depths. I've done 3 out of 4 of the main quests, and finished 97 shrines (I've found a bit more on top of that), and I've gotten 25 hearts and an extra full stamina wheel.
That moment when Link jumps into a free fall and that title card appears...I predicted that days before release. I figured if BOTW has you walking out of that cave to the majesty of the world, then TOTK would frame that in a free fall jump to show how much bigger everything is. I remember shouting, "I KNEW IT!", but predicting it didnt make it any less awesome. It was the right king of moment for it.
My favourite moment was when I held R and went into a fast dive, straight into the rock 😂. I also had another moment later with those massive falling rocks from the sky that you rewind on...I was riding my horse, and then all of a sudden a rock fell on my head! I thought it was gonna insta kill me, but I barely survived. It was a moment of shock, followed by hilarity and I loved it. I'm glad I was able to snap a video as soon as that happened.
While I'm loving TOTK so far, I really don't want this to be the Switch's swan song. I feel there is still so much life left in the console, and potential for more fantastic games. Nintendo's consoles don't have to be bookended by a Zelda. That pattern sounds depressing. Like as soon as you see a mainline Zelda late into a Nintendo console lifespan, then oh, the console's life is dead. I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised by some new announcements this summer, and when the Switch is good and ready to be done with, I'm sure Nintendo will have something great.
Plus, I just upgraded to an OLED. There's NO WAY I'm wishing for this to be its swan song.
@Deemo37 nah, it was the cold zone one. I approached it from the lower side of the map, which made the way up hard to spot. Nicely enough, my wife was playing her copy at the same time and she had approached it from the top side of the map and was more easily able to spot the route to that shrine from her perspective. So I got a tip from her which helped me out.
Probably something else. I just beat TOTK in 2 hours on my first try. Pffft...what an easy game.
In all seriousness, the game has me hooked. Just going around Hyrule right now, seeing some different surprises. I did like the Great Plateau in BOTW a bit more than the tutorial area in this game. Once I got all of the abilities, it was more enjoyable, but one of the shrines was a bit of a pain to get to. Things are definitely picking up though.
Oh yeah, and picking up the game was a real experience. I had ordered it off of Amazon, and its delivery date was the 16th! I said "screw that!", cancelled it, and went to Gamestop where they had hundreds of copies on hand. I had also bought a digital copy for my wife before that, and there was no way I was gonna be left out of the opening weekend party 😅.
I just upgraded to an OLED a couple weeks ago, so I'm doing my part. I think there are still a lot of people who will upgrade with TOTK coming out (although I picked the Splatoon 3 one. I'm still looking forward to TOTK, but I just like the Splatoon design). There have got to be a lot of people who will need to upgrade from their older switches with fast draining batteries (trust me, it's worth it).
I'll definitely be playing the Splatoon 3 Splatfest with my wife. Also, I upgraded to the Splatoon 3 OLED recently (I didnt really care for the TOTK design, although I will be getting the game for my wife [and playing it after her)]), so I gave my old switch to my 8 year old daughter. Now I'm watching as she gets into Splatoon 2, and it's currently her favourite game. It's an awesome sight to behold. She's not too bad at it. There's something kind of hilarious about watching her walk forward and paint in a straight line, and still somehow splat multiple people as she continues along her predictable little path 😂.
Also, I just beat Metroid Dread last weekend, which was phenomenal. I also beat Toem, which is a rather cute photography game with a Short Hike-like feel. Now I'm playing Grapple Dog, which I'm absolutely hooked on.
I just upgraded to a Switch OLED this week, so I've spent the remainder of the week redownloading all of my games. It was only last night that I got to dive into Splatoon 3 and see those awesome bright colours at work. I'll probably play more of it this weekend, along with some more Metroid Dread, which I've had an amazing time with so far.
Oh boy, there have been too many games on massive sales lately, that I've really built up a backlog again, and now I've got too many choices. But Metroid Dread has been in my library for a few months, so I'll be starting up that, I imagine. Also, more Splatoon 3 with my wife, as usual. I've been rocking the gold aerospray for weeks, but I think I'll try to branch out with more weapons. I'm currently trying the splattershot forge, which is a great weapon for dealing with snipers.
The sales over the last couple weeks have been insane. I bought a bunch of games in the Capcom Arcade Stadium 2, Gang Beasts, Keywe, Castlevania Advance Collection, Castlevania Anniversary Collection, Contra Collection, that Konami Arcade Collection with the SHMUPs, Pacman Museum +, Steel Assault, Toem, Fight n Rage, Exit the Gungeon, Donut Dodo and Ion Fury. And I'm still thinking about maybe getting Panzer Paladin and Grindstone.
I'm glad to see Bomb Rush Cyberfunk has a release date. I'll have to keep my eye in it and see how it reviews. It really brings me back to the ol' Dreamcast days.
It'll be a Splatoon-filled weekend for me. My wife and I have been deep into playing Splatoon 3 matches together online with Turf Wars, both rocking the gold Aerosprays as we paint as much as humanly possible. I also started Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion last weekend. I've gotten 2 Thangs so far, so I'll be continuing from there. If I get a chance, I'll play more Kirby RTDD with my wife and kid. And I'll probably tinker with many of the games I've gotten on sale lately. There's been an awful lot of them!
These articles really suck. The movie isnt even a week old yet and I haven't had the chance to go see it (I was planning to this weekend), and already I'm massively spoiled by just browsing past the thumbnail. I'm going to guess this was the post credits scene, so that's now ruined. Awesome.
Splatoon 3 online multiplayer with my wife, and Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion when I'm playing solo, with a bit of Pacman Museum + on the side (which I just happened to pick up on sale).
Awesome! It was my first Splatfest with Splatoon 3. My wife and I played a bunch of it over the weekend as Team Nessie, and Team Alien gave us so much grief (we also got paired up with quite a few people who dropped put and left us hopeless along the way). I'm glad to see that we scraped by though, after all we played.
Last night I played some more Return to Dreamland Deluxe with my family, and then my wife and I played our first Splatfest since we got Splatoon 3 for a couple hours and got destroyed. People are fiercely competitive. We'll probably play more of each game this weekend. It's super rainy so there won't be much outside time. I also need to chip into Mario + Rabbids SOH more. I'm on the 5th world, and while it's pretty good, I'm starting to feel a bit worn out on it. I kind of want to wrap it up and move onto something else, single player-wise.
I'll be playing a bunch of Splatoon 3 with my wife. We just got into it recently and we're getting destroyed online. We used to be so good at Splatoon 1 online, but it looks like we have a lot of work to do to reach that level again. But we're having fun and that's all that matters. I'm also playing some Mario + Rabbids SOH on the side. I'm enjoying it, but a lot of the sidequests feel pointless since the main missions level up along with you, so I'm finding myself skipping them more often.
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is my current single player project. I'm at the end of the 2nd world and I'm enjoying myself quite a bit. I don't mind that it plays a bit different than the first. I think it works. I may also grab the family NSO service this weekend and play some Splatoon 3 with my wife.
Teamwork makes the dream work (I've been getting that youtube ad constantly 😓)! I'll be playing some more Kirby Return to Dreamland Deluxe with my wife and daughter if I get the chance. For single player, I need to pick at Neon White some more, but I've also got a slew of newly purchased games and content that i could start, so it's difficult to choose (Dead Cells Castlevania DLC, Mario Rabbids SOH, Kao the Kangaroo, Metroid Dread, Shin Megami Tensei V, etc). I'm at a loss as what to choose. Maybe something lighter after banging my head against a wall with Neon White.
I'll be trying to finish up the Splatoon 3 single player, as I believe I'm right before the final boss. Also, some more Kirby: Return to Dreamland Deluxe with my wife and daughter, which we're all having a blast with.
I picked Captain Toad, but if I had to pick any Mario character, it would be Paper Mario. Not sure how they would make him work, but he deserves it. But they've already added Zelda, Animal Crossing and Splatoon characters, so my obvious choice is Kirby.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (June 10th)
Re: Soapbox: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom's Busier Hyrule Is Making Me Miss BOTW
The clear answer for me is Lil Gator Game. Seriously.
But if we're talking about Zelda, then BOTW for me. I really enjoyed TOTK (I've finished it), but that calm in BOTW won me over more. However, Lil Gator Game is so chill and charming, that its #1 in my book.
Re: Watch The Pros Splat It Out In The Splatoon 3 Championship 2023 Opening Qualifier
Re: River City Girls 2 Lands New Update, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
This game DESPERATELY needs a price drop. I loved the first game (which I paid full price for), but I won't bite unless I see a 50% sale at least.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 27th)
Re: Cat Quest: Pirates Of The Purribean Sails Onto Nintendo Switch Next Year
GOTY contender for me right here. I loved Cat Quest 1 and 2. TOTK hype is now gone. Cat Quest is where it's at.
Re: Soapbox: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Straight Up Fails In Just One Respect: Accessibility
Re: Zelda: TOTK Playtimes Start To Appear, And Some People Haven't Been Getting A Lot Of Sleep
Re: Feature: 7 Things From Zelda: TOTK's First Hours That Had Us Grinning Like Mad
Re: Soapbox: If Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Isn’t Switch’s Swan Song, It Really Should Be
While I'm loving TOTK so far, I really don't want this to be the Switch's swan song.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 13th)
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 13th)
Re: Switch Hardware Sales Now Over 125 Million, PS2, Nintendo DS Target Still A Way Off
I just upgraded to an OLED a couple weeks ago, so I'm doing my part.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 6th)
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 29th)
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 22nd)
Re: Switch eShop Is Hosting A Big Sale On Indie Games Right Now (North America)
The sales over the last couple weeks have been insane. I bought a bunch of games in the Capcom Arcade Stadium 2, Gang Beasts, Keywe, Castlevania Advance Collection, Castlevania Anniversary Collection, Contra Collection, that Konami Arcade Collection with the SHMUPs, Pacman Museum +, Steel Assault, Toem, Fight n Rage, Exit the Gungeon, Donut Dodo and Ion Fury. And I'm still thinking about maybe getting Panzer Paladin and Grindstone.
Re: Round Up: Everything Announced In Nintendo's April 2023 Indie World Showcase
I'm glad to see Bomb Rush Cyberfunk has a release date. I'll have to keep my eye in it and see how it reviews. It really brings me back to the ol' Dreamcast days.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 15th)
Re: Super Mario Bros. Movie Stars Discuss Who Should Play Wario In Possible Sequel
These articles really suck. The movie isnt even a week old yet and I haven't had the chance to go see it (I was planning to this weekend), and already I'm massively spoiled by just browsing past the thumbnail. I'm going to guess this was the post credits scene, so that's now ruined. Awesome.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 8th)
Splatoon 3 online multiplayer with my wife, and Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion when I'm playing solo, with a bit of Pacman Museum + on the side (which I just happened to pick up on sale).
Re: Team Nessie Is Victorious In Splatoon 3's Monster Mashup Splatfest
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 1st)
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 25th)
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 18th)
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 11th)
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 4th)
I'll be trying to finish up the Splatoon 3 single player, as I believe I'm right before the final boss. Also, some more Kirby: Return to Dreamland Deluxe with my wife and daughter, which we're all having a blast with.
Re: Video: Splatoon 3 DLC Wave 1 Is All Style And No Substance
If it had the single player campaign of Splatoon 1 included, this would be much more well received.
Re: Poll: Which Character Would You Like To See Return Next In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe?
I picked Captain Toad, but if I had to pick any Mario character, it would be Paper Mario. Not sure how they would make him work, but he deserves it. But they've already added Zelda, Animal Crossing and Splatoon characters, so my obvious choice is Kirby.
