@Ogbert I know what you mean. However if this game doesn’t actually use AI and it’s entirely human-made, they should fire whoever is involved with the graphics, because those cats are really off-putting. I am a cat lover and I hate to see something so soulless, as it’s supposed to be a cat sim, not a gremlin game.
@KingMike I agree that Rockstar has its sizeable share of fault. If they cared so much about the classic GTAs, those games should have been given to a more skilled staff, in terms of size and experience, from the very beginning, as well as enough time to get the games ready. Still, it doesn’t give an excuse to anyone involved in this disaster.
Seeing GSG gave me flashbacks of playing the mobile GTAs over the last decade and seeing the disaster that was San Andreas HD on PS3 (which basically was the mobile version but printed on a disc, with horrible performance and bugs). I had my doubts from the beginning, but when I saw the Trilogy on release I thought to myself that this was worse than the mobile ports which they used as a base for the “Definitive” Editions.
I will always have the GSG logo on my Switch case of the Trilogy, to remind me of who was originally responsible for developing this mess tho, so Williamson doesn’t have to worry that his company is cancelled (unless Rockstar decides to print new copies without their team on the back)
How entitled can this CEO ***** be after he accepted to take over such a massive project with a small and untalented team that managed to botch the classic GTA games over the last decade on mobile and PS360 and did the same thing with DE, but a whole lot worse! Their previous patches managed to fix one thing and break a few more, and they treated the Switch version the worst!
The latest patch is the merit of Brendan McNamara’s company, not of Dog ***** Games. They should have never laid their hands on such beloved games
@Serpenterror they are janky, I agree, but compared to many horror games made today it has the heart in the right place. It’s definitely worth a try, although I’d recommend waiting for a sale first as I don’t think it’s worth 40 euros or so 👍🏻
@Serpenterror Slitterhead is the brainchild of the original Silent Hill’s director and creator of the Siren franchise on PlayStation. The game has a neat concept and nice atmosphere, I really dig its 1980s Hong Kong setting and the fact that any person you meet could be a monster
Although I have access on both PS5 and Switch, I’m not gonna bother replaying on PS5 as I already got the Platinum on all three games over 2 years ago.
The current gen, in my view, wasn’t in such a dire need of a huge patch. I always wanted the Switch version to be patched as it has the most visual glitches of all versions and uneven fps. We have to pressure Rockstar a lot so they will remember that a lot of Switch owners bought this mess and want it FIXED
Edit: the update has just released, GTA 3 and Vice City look and play like they should have been back in 2021! Can’t wait to delve deeper into San Andreas, as everything that plagued the Switch release has seemingly been ironed out: the visual glitches in the weapon/radio wheel, the unstable fps, the blurriness when played on TV and the weird audio mixing in the intro videos!
@BrintaPap I don’t agree with any form of aggression and I do know that the Japanese also have some traits that are not positive.
I’m only afraid that when I’ll go to Japan, I would suddenly find myself in a discriminating position as someone from the West, just because some idiots made an ass of themselves and broke the rules. I’m referring to extra surveillance or being held for extra checks
@BrintaPap what does the segregation have to do with anything?…
I was simply saying how they follow the rules as enacted. Another example would be if you entered a Japanese Apple Store. You wouldn’t find the test devices tied to anything as Japanese people wouldn’t steal them en masse or mess up the stores like in the West, mainly referring here to the whole SNES controller debacle. They actually have the sense of responsibility and shame unlike here.
This says a lot about how Nintendo is extremely naive when it comes to how people outside of Japan think. Japanese people are raised to be more respectful and obey the rules, while we always look to break those rules.
Nintendo did it to themselves really, same goes for their “playtest program”. Should have allowed photography on-site (at least with a tax as many museums do if they feel they would lose money somehow)
@IceEarthGuard I know, but it’s incredibly expensive to get my hands on an LRG game due to custom taxes and it takes AGES for anything to come from the States. It doesn’t help that my country, even though it’s in EU, is not fully integrated into Schengen, so goods tend to come a bit harder here than in the rest of the Union…
And in the eventuality that some game stores get to sell some LRG games, they come stupidly expensive (standard editions going for almost 100 euros or over)
All that said, F LRG!!!
I remember when I was trashed a few years ago here on NL for speaking the truth about how LRG’s business is toxic. I hate them mainly for releasing their games ONLY in the US, which is basically saying FU to European gamers like myself.
The definition of the rotten apple on gaming
I don’t know what to say…
I managed to finish the game (pretty close to getting the Platinum) on PS5 and it’s a really cute and good game! Not only that, I also snatched a physical copy mainly for those art cards, which are really nice to own!
I loved it so much that when I got myself a MacBook Pro M3, the first game I tested was Stray. It has a few small hiccups when moving the camera too fast but it scales pretty well to Apple’s Silicon chips, even on 8 gigs of RAM (medium graphical settings, unlocked 40-60 fps)
However, I’m not too sure that Stray would be a good fit on Switch, seeing the trailer during the Direct. I have to see actual gameplay before deciding to triple-dip.
Great, I’ll just wait for Silksong to be reannounced in 2034 as a launch title for Sega’s new console, Uranus.
It will surely be a hit with the feral kids in the post-war wasteland
I’ve recently snatched a copy of System Shock on PS5, while my wife got Persona 5 Royal on Switch.
The System Shock remake on PS5 is even better than I originally expected, knowing it has a more PC-oriented control scheme.
Besides Persona, I got the Doom 1+2 combo on Switch and might I say that this is the definitive way to play these classics (they still missed Final Doom from being totally complete). The new soundtrack is even more badass than the tracks from the 3DO port, so hopefully we can finally rest easy and say that port is 100% crap now
I wish Nintendo of Europe would extend into Central and Eastern Europe… it would be easier to get special edition games and controllers from MyNintendo as well
@MirrorFate2 Yup, it solved the lagging problems as expected. I suspect that initially it didn’t correctly install the update on the SD card and it did mess up the data access as the game loaded, even menus or the Codec. Thanks for the help!
@MirrorFate2 Thanks, I recently reinstalled the game on my SD card as it also happened with LA Noire when I changed cards (from a 128 to the 512 GB Sandisk card I have now) and it worked then.
I’ll test it later tonight, wish me luck guys 😬
Edit: it worked, it’s as smooth as it was before the update 👍🏻
Is it just me or the recent 1.5.1 patch on MGS3 broke the fps on Switch? It feels much laggier than before in certain scenes, dipping under 30 fps, and it’s annoying
@Steel76 I’d say you try the MP1 remaster on Switch, you’ll see that they clearly used the MP4 engine as it also has visual features close to the trailer for Beyond
@Hyrulewarrior I think this means that the remaster of MP1 we got on Switch was actually built on MP4’s engine, maybe as a test to see how much they can push the graphics on the console.
As for the Switch’s successor, I think the OG Switch games will be boosted (kinda like how MS does with old Xbox 360 games on Series) hence skipping the need of re-releasing/re-buying the games, while enjoying the old Switch games at higher fps or resolution
Great article, as someone who grew up in the tumultuous early 2000s in Romania, I remember when people were either gaming on PC and Internet Cafes, or had some Famiclone. I had a Terminator when I was very young at my grandma’s house for a brief period of time, and I underline brief because they were of really crappy build quality and broke easy. Rich kids had relatives who bought older consoles like PS1 from the West and brought them as gifts, or smuggled them from Yugoslavia as they were more widely available there.
When they started selling legitimate consoles here, they were pretty expensive and they became more mainstream after 2005-2006 I believe. A PS2 for example would have cost a bit over 200 dollars in 2003 (when the monthly wage here was around 100).
While those clones’ existence seems “disgusting” nowadays (they still are numerous in certain parts of the world), they served as an introduction to the world of gaming for many people
I wish for DK64, Conker and Body Harvest to appear on the N64 app. Those games would make the collection complete, at least for me. Also I hope they add Puggsy on Mega Drive ✌🏻
@Kekshook I understand your point, however the way things are now with the whole gaming industry, a reset would be welcome. I haven’t been interested in the AAA gaming for almost 10 years, as the more recent trends didn’t appeal to me the way many games in the 2000s or early-to-mid 2010s did. AAA gaming landscape has become less and less diverse, oversaturated with open-worlds, remakes and live-service games.
I miss the times when game devs actually tried to innovate in terms of mechanics and not only making the graphics more realistic. For example, HFW is, in my view, one of the best looking games I have ever played, but I don’t intend to beat it as it BORES me to death. The story is way too twisted and uninteresting compared to ZD, and don’t get me started with how preachy and obnoxious Aloy can be. Sure, not every modern game is Horizon, there are worse sinners out there.
@Kekshook that’s actually a good thing, many great games in the last 30 years came from small teams, as it encouraged more creative thinking. Fewer came from sweatshops like the Assassin’s Creed teams or others that make blockbusters
@WiiWareWave I agree, I’m mad that collections like MGS and the GTA not-so-definitive editions are allowed to exist in their present form on the eShop. Devs and publishers everywhere get greedier by the day and want maximum profit for minimum effort.
@MysticX I was joking, like many people here on NL, I too am concerned of Nintendo’s lethargy. More and more third party games either skip the Switch due to its low power, or they get released in an unplayable form. Sure, some of those games get patched later but it is still a sad sight to behold.
