Re: Random: Lucas Pope Jokes About Papers, Please Coming To Consoles In "2031"

Flashlink99

Playing it on iPad since 2016, in my view it’s the best way to play this game for the big screen estate and intuitive controls.
I would never see this game on any console really, as the controls and UI would need a lot of optimising for a button-only setup. On Switch it could work like Vita did, but better due to its bigger resolution and screen, not to mention adding touch support.

As for the console release joke, I think Pope just did a half-reverse of 2013

Re: Soapbox: Super Mario Sunshine Wasn't Bad, It Was Just Ahead Of Its Time

Flashlink99

My fiancé still laughs at me for getting pissed by a game called Sunshine, a funny memory which makes me feel less harsh about the frustration that game brought.
Maybe this is the real reward I got for going 100%, in lieu of that underwhelming post-credits photo.

@liljmoore Odyssey was really fun to complete as it wasn’t as frustrating (maybe too easy at some point, like Galaxy).

Re: Soapbox: 20 Years Later, Super Mario Sunshine Is Still The Best 3D Mario

Flashlink99

There are 3 things that bother me with Sunshine:

  • that damn Pachinko shine (broke a joycon during a burst of frustration)
  • blue coins (some of them are truly random to find)
  • bonus for 100% completion is beyond underwhelming, after such a long tedious gameplay session

Beyond those issues, it's a good game with enough originality to stand out in the long list of Mario platformers. I replay the game from time to time but oooh boy... I would never try to 100% it again.

It's funny to think that this was my first (official) mainline Mario game I ever played, 15 years ago on a friend's GameCube during a trip in Vienna. It felt nice, mainly due to GC's controller, but with joycons it's just off. Also, I wish the 3D All-Stars version was 60 fps, like the 2001 Spaceworld demo teased

Re: OddWorld: Soulstorm - Oddtimized Edition Announced For Switch

Flashlink99

Soulstorm is not the greatest Oddworld out there (Abe’s Exoddus maintains its place here), but I didn’t find it THAT bad as many people here believe. It’s been improved a lot since release, especially with the dubiously called “Enhanced Edition”.
As for this Switch release, I will double-dip as I am very curious how this intensive game turns up

Re: Oddworld: Soulstorm For Switch Listed By Dutch Retailer

Flashlink99

The game is nice on PS5, but I just don’t see how it would run on Switch, as it struggled badly on PS4 and Xbox One. Not to mention how much action is in the background of many levels, constant changes in perspective (being 2.9D), FeeCo Depot where there are trains running full speed everywhere and, of course, the train level.

Re: Monkey Island's Creator Seemingly Shuts Down Blog After Personal Attacks

Flashlink99

@twztid13 Exactly, entitlement is the root of the fans’ nastiness. This shouldn’t be that way. We can all disagree with certain aspects of a game, movie, show etc. but people forgot to have a moderate discussion with each other. Modern society suffers from a severe case of AVGNitis, when everything not on par with the greatest games ever made becomes s**t instantly and every developer out there is Fred Fuchs in disguise

Re: Rockstar's GTA Trilogy Is Getting "New Patches" Next Week

Flashlink99

The game feels playable now and I quite enjoy it on Switch, only in portable mode as on tv it looks really blurry (thank God I have a PS5 for that, although it's not perfect there either).
It still needs some updates to improve the fps in some cutscenes and some visual bugs, i.e. weapon/radio wheel, otherwise the Switch version is quite decent now!
P.S. these remasters shouldn't have existed, not in this form at least

Re: Cult Classic Motorbike Sim 'Elasto Mania' Returns As A Remaster Next Week

Flashlink99

I haven't played this game since 2007 or so!
This, GTA Vice City (and 3) and NFS Hot Pursuit (1998) were the most replayed games on my PC back then. Used to suck at it but now I find it much more enjoyable on Switch! Definitely worth its 9 Euros and I'd recommend it to anyone who loves Trials-like games
PS, this is one of those rare Switch games that unexpectedly uses the HD Rumble as it should, it really feels like you are holding a motorbike in your hands!

Re: Review: Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition - Three Classics In One Shocking Package

Flashlink99

Never trusted Grove Street Games to do these remasters, they basically abused AI upscaling for them when changing the engines, from Renderware to Unreal (like being tasked with translating a best-selling novel in another language and you use Google Translate to finish the job quick).
Also I usually hate Unreal Engine on Switch, this release further cemented my opinion on its performance on the console.
Thus, Rockstar Games is dead (is just another Konami now). I wish we would have been stuck in the 2000s forever

Re: Random: Oh No, People Don't Recognise GameCubes Any More

Flashlink99

Although I played the GameCube only once in 2007 at a friend in Vienna, I had such a fun time with it and kind of regretting that it didn’t quite catch on in my country, where people were gaming either on PC or a PS2/PSP. Even now, in the Switch Era, not many Romanians know about Nintendo or it is considered extremely niche/kiddy compared to Sony and Microsoft’s offerings.
GameCube could have been something of a juggernaut, but as Miyamoto said, it was just another T-rex in the fight for supremacy…

@KateGray Happy B-day!!! Noticed Charlie’s wishes while scrolling and thought that another wish would help making your day great!

Re: Video: 15 Exciting New Games Coming To Nintendo Switch In November

Flashlink99

@iaLgan Capcom is indeed far from being a saint on Switch, as they only released Street Fighter 2, Monster Hunter Rise and Stories 2 full on cartridge. I’m not really expecting any huge publisher to use the 32 gigs due to being cheapskates (CD Projekt is, or at least used to be, the only AAA studio with indie dev maneurisms). I only want to download as little as possible when buying GTA on cart, hopefully San Andreas is at least on cartridge in its fullest.

Re: Video: 15 Exciting New Games Coming To Nintendo Switch In November

Flashlink99

@dmcc0 Yes, it was Monster Hunter Stories 2, but Capcom is way different compared to Take-Two (more like no. 2). Take-Two, which owns Rockstar Games, has NEVER released a Switch game entirely on cart. They always have the requirement to download data (from 14 gb in LA Noire to over 20 for the latest NBA). It’s not wild to believe that the Trilogy will have at least one game with the requirement to be downloaded (honestly I think Vice City will be the one, while the rest will be on cart, as they should fit on a regular 16 gb one).
At least we can be thankful Rockstar is not Bethesda, famous for the Wolfenstein Youngblood and Doom Eternal blunders, so those who think GTA trilogy will only have a download-code-in-box can shut up

Re: Random: Forget Dread, It's All About Metroid: Other M On Twitter Right Now

Flashlink99

I hope people are trolling. Other M is a good Wii game (in terms of gameplay), but having the Metroid moniker tarnishes its reputation. Samus was always supposed to be a badass and not an emotional mess as she was portrayed in Other M. I liked the way Sakamoto used the storytelling in Dread, way more than in Other M, as in Dread he kept Samus the way almost everyone knew and adored her, and turned it up to 11, instead of her constant blabbering about DABABY.
Not to mention the acting in Other M was at cringe-levels of horrible, I prefer Samus being a mute protagonist, much like Link (although I was pleasantly surprised of that one scene in Dread where she talked).
