@Alcea I'm glad I'm not the only one annoyed by rumors like this one! I would love for older Japan Studio games to release in remastered form on Switch 2, but GT7 is just stupid. I heard Rockstar North runs GTA 2 on Switch 2 at 4K 120fps with ambient occlusion, ray-tracing, pixel-perfect 4:3 size, but don't expect it to release because I SAID SO — trust me bro, pro leaker of daily #2's in the gaming press
It arrived today for me, 3 days after the app launch, but I’ve already been waiting almost 15 years to try a Virtual Boy.
Everyone was right, its appeal cannot be totally understood only by watching a 2D video on YouTube!
For example, I always thought Red Alarm is a wireframe mess, but after finally playing it as intended, I have honestly been blown away by the use of the stereoscopic graphics.
I have even found 3D Tetris to be much more intuitive, but still boring compared to regular Tetris. The crown is taken by Wario Land so far, as it hooked me a lot more than Mario Land 3 did on GameBoy! I also liked The Mansion of Innsmouth, a decent survival horror title.
As for the infamous headaches, I’ve found the Virtual Boy to be a lot more comfortable to use than a regular VR headset, as those usually gave me a little bit of motion sickness and eyesores.
I’m glad I spent €80 on the replica and I hope all the titles (yes, including Waterworld) will show up, as well as more previously unreleased games!
A quirky piece of Nintendo history, nothing more, nothing less
I love that the long-awaited MGS 60fps patch came to Switch 2 simultaneously with the delivery of Twin Snakes, which I never played before but dreamed of owning a CIB copy for the last 12 years.
Right now, I restarted playing MGS 2 as God intended!
To all those who are wondering why the original music has been replaced, it seems it has to do with the death of the OG composer a few years back. Also, this isn’t just a direct re-release of the first Rayman, it’s a whole new release (even if they just pack more versions of the same game, it’s still modified) and it requires another license as a result.
Most probably there is a licensing issue involving his family/heirs that doesn’t let Ubisoft/Atari/Digital Eclipse to use it…
@Cia only Switch 2, I’m afraid. The only way to run the games at 60fps would be to overclock the OG Switch, as some people already demonstrated 3 years ago
Has everyone forgotten Metal Gear 2: SS where Snake and the cast occasionally praised the MSX, even showing its startup sequence in the post-credits scene? “The greatest computer ever”
@BleakStuff you have to change the controller ports by yourself in the game settings, there’s no prompt to tell you that (besides the already-existing codec call by the Colonel) as to not spoil it for those who fight Mantis without any prior knowledge of the trick
To all those spamming about Rayman Redemption here:
Maybe if Rayman Redemption would have been made available on more platforms other than Windows, it wouldn't feel so obnoxious to read comms about it...
The fan-made remake is great, we all know that by now! We just want it on more OSs, like macOS or Linux!
I crave for Rayman, ever since I had the chance to replay The Great Escape on N64 online and seeing that elusive rating for the 30th anniversary of the first game. Alan Wake 2 would also be nice, accompanied by a patch for the first game to improve its performance and graphics on Switch 2
Idk if it’s just me, but this whole Dispatch censorship issue seems extremely overrated and blown out of proportion due to the dev/publisher’s greed.
I really don’t buy into the whole reversal of Nintendo’s friendly attitude to adult-oriented content, as this isn’t the 90s anymore.
I see this “controversy” more as a gimmick to advertise a mid-game than a legit issue.
For those enraged by the fact you can’t see “Invincible”-looking tiddies or schlongs, go touch the grass or play CP2077/Baldur’s Gate 3
@Lanmanna I don’t have a PC anymore and I’m not tech-savyy enough to make it work on Mac via VM (and I am sure as heck not going to pay 100 or so euros a month for Parallels).
I heard great things about it tho
If it is based on the incredibly buggy and awful-sounding DOS version, like the last re-release on iOS in 2016, I am not expecting great things from this remaster…
Rayman, as flawed as it may be, still brings me a lot of enjoyment when replaying on my trusty old PS1, and I’ve beaten it many times! I wish I could do the same on modern platforms as well, without any compromises
I remember how Nitrome and Miniclip were my main source of Flash gaming between 2007-2010. Skywire was my favorite game on Nitrome. I remember how excited I was when after playing a game and came back on the home page, the website refreshed and suddenly Skywire 2 was featured as a new release! I was so excited, I started playing it right to the end. I am so glad it will come back, so much so that I will download it on both iOS and Switch 2 when the time comes!
@Stormcloudlive it’s a scummy business practice where Aspyr turns the player into an unpaid beta-tester, with the addendum that THE PLAYER is paying for that unfinished build (under the guise of a “launch sale”) and reporting the bugs back to the devs.
Aspyr should be heavily sanctioned for this, but there will always be simps who defend such practices, because they can’t tell or don’t care about the difference between a high-quality work and a 5/10 effort (probably those same people would put an equal between a Michelin 5-star menu and a Salmonella-ridden kebab bought from a slum) …
@MojoMonkey98 @cylemmulo @HenrikW and everyone who had an issue figuring out how to upgrade from cart + AE upgrade for free:
Turns out that the AE digital upgrade has to be UNLOADED from Switch 2 to suddenly become eligible to upgrade for free, also the Switch 2 version appears as a separate build so there’s no need to use the S1 cartridge after that
@Blast16 On Switch 1 is a bit better since the last patch 2 years ago, the Classic Lightning really improves the look. However, the resolution is still crap and the fps hovers mostly around 25 fps.
My advice (if you really want to play the GTA Trilogy on Nintendo) is to run it on Switch 2, as it solves most of the issues: maxing the resolution at 720p and constant 30fps (I do wish they would patch it for higher res and 60 fps tho!)
@Dang_69 I know what you mean! My wife has no issues replaying Witcher 3 on Switch Lite.
Meanwhile, I feel like, especially after the latest update, the Switch version is jankier and much more prone to stutters and crashes. It may be like that because I’ve been spoiled by Cyberpunk on Switch 2, which is great and not that big of a compromise as Switcher was compared to PS4/Xbox One. What is crazy is that I had no problem beating the game for the first time on Switch about 2 years ago, and now I find it nigh unplayable on that platform! 😅
I still hope for a Switch 2 version of Witcher 3…
@Max_the_German Keep in mind that these footages are usually recorded by random people who don’t have much idea about showing footage of the game with the accuracy that more tech-savyy people would expect. There also exist people that can’t tell the difference between 30 or 60 fps (not joking)
@Chimichanga Any Tomb Raider from 2006 onwards would be great, I just hope Aspyr won’t be employed to develop the ports from now on! Any dev team with a Switch 2 devkit and expertise would suffice, just not those lazy Aspyr losers…
Although the Japanese box has a cool aesthetic, I voted with an Europe-centric bias in mind, obviously because Europe is where I live and it always reminds me of this collectable I own. SNES Mini is the best mini-console of them all!
I am honestly glad DK Bananza won over Mario Kart, as it felt stuffed to the brim with content and fun gameplay! For me, DKB, Cyberpunk 2077 and Silksong were the games that defined the very early days of Switch 2.
@Jamie64326 I forgot about that, thank you for pointing it out! It’s been almost 10 years since I last played it and I have the physical release of the original version. Still, even the Definitive Edition on PC is smaller and still superior to the Switch1/2 release
@gaga64 It’s the same as the S2 version but with worse res, 30 fps capped and reduced effects. To top it off, Aspyr offers 2 different builds with NO upgrade path whatsoever.
@nhSnork um, where to start:
1. The game is crossgen, not gen 7, and it had different builds for PS3 and PS4
2. The Switch 1 version (30 GB-ish) is already almost TRIPLE the size of the PC port, which is 11 GB and still looks miles ahead of the new versions by Aspyr. The Switch 2 port has only 200mbs over the S1 version!! Only for bigger res & fps and janky mouse controls.
The Switch 2 version is gimped by being literally the S1 port with minimal changes, end of story. I’ll stick with the Steam release
@JohnnyMind Exactly, it is still miles away from the blurry and unstable Age of Calamity (which I still hope it will get a 60fps patch at the very least on Switch 2)!
On a funnier note, I am fine with a dynamic 900p60fps, as it makes much more sense than the 4K30fps render in the juggernaut that is Animal Crossing!
@BTB20 Funny. Honestly, even with a 16K res, it wouldn’t have made a difference to such simple graphics, as it’s the sluggish performance that doesn’t make sense and ruins the excitement.
It’s stupid that an open-world game like Tears of The Kingdom, with plenty of physics, can run at 4K 60fps on Switch 2 without breaking itself apart, while the juggernaut that is Animal Crossing: New Horizons doesn’t. This is even more frustrating when you think about AC on GameCube and City Folk on Wii running at 60fps.
What gives?
@Tibob there are a few notable differences which may make the 3D-All Stars superior to:
1. Mario 64 is the Shindou version with rumble support (it was Japan-exclusive) + higher-res textures and UI
2. Widescreen in Super Mario Sunshine
@NintendoWife Not a Bluey fan, but Halfbrick always kicked butt when it came to mobile gaming. This Bluey game reminds me of Age Of Zombies on iPhone, used to play it all the time (at least before they butchered all their games with a “subscription” service, which basically forces you to rent their games even though you bought them years ago!)
@AmplifyMJ I genuinely feel sorry for @Anti-Matter, as I am sure he didn’t intend to be thought of as a troll around here.
However I cannot deny that seeing a response to him before he even wrote anything made me chuckle 🤭🥲
He sure was an infamous personality in the gaming industry. However, if it weren’t for him, Ninja Gaiden would have remained stuck in the NES era and the contributions he made to develop the Xbox brand globally during the OG and 360 days would have never happened. Also, let’s not forget the Dead Or Alive series!
Rest in peace, Japanese Tommy Wiseau! 😔
@rgbobs I wouldn’t sell my 3D All-Stars copy if I were you. Even though All-Stars’ Mario Galaxy 1 version is not that much different from the current one (on Switch 1), I would miss having the Shindou Mario 64 (with rumble support and upscaled textures+hud) and full HD widescreen Mario Sunshine, something that will surely not be available on the Nintendo Online app.
The Last Judge gag was as funny as cutting my wrist with paper. I died from that explosion and had to redo the boss fight. Ever since I stayed away from bosses while they were dying, because I developed a deep mistrust in Silksong’s ways to punish the player.
@aznable Not everyone who dislikes Zelda 2 has never beaten it fyi. I did beat it and I felt it was a sadistic and tiresome experience…
With such a huge franchise, there surely is a Zelda game for everyone. Zelda 2 is for masochists
Great OST to listen to while cracking my head open trying to beat Act 3 in Silksong…
I will never play anything made by Zelda 2 fanatics ever again, no matter how hyped that game would be!
Getting further into the game made me realize that this might be one of the best games ever made, although what made me give it a 9 instead of 10 are 2 things:
the rosary prices can be a pain sometimes
I hate runbacks, the game is full of them and they should have been left where they belong: in the NES-era
