Re: ICYMI, Yes, A Blood-Soaked 'Terrifier' Game Is Coming To Switch

Elbow

@TenEighty You definitely don't have to like these games but saying "this is not video gaming" is weird. These games are just as valid as Mario. I love both Mario and Manhunt, which is most definitely not a family friendly game. (And based on your reaction here I would definitely recommend you NOT look up.)

There is room for both and shunning one or the other is bad. Again, not liking them is perfectly fine.

Re: Random: Local Supermarket Wins Trademark Battle Against Nintendo

Elbow

This was pretty clearly not using anything Nintendo related, but I also wonder how old the store is? Probably not more than 40 years, but if it was that also should eliminate any chance of Nintendo having a say.

I love Nintendo's developers, but their cancerous business side makes it really hard to like them.

Re: Sega President Shuji Utsumi On Sonic The Hedgehog’s Next Major Outing

Elbow

It's weird that "it has to be great" is headline worthy, but it's Sonic, so...

I hope they learned their lesson this time. Frontiers did a lot right, but gameplay wasn't one of them. I really hope we don't get another spectacle on-rails game that breaks and falls apart the moment you try nudging in any direction.

Re: Palworld Announces Surprise Collaboration With Terraria

Elbow

@Dee123 You don't know what these words mean. Terraria has been going strong for over a decade, it's had physical toys on market shelves, and has been ported to everything under the sun, even the 3DS. Terraria is doing incredibly well and has been since 2011, to the point where even when official support ended, it continued to be so successful they came back and continued to update it again.

Palworld has already slipped past being FOTM, we are currently in those "low lows" you speak of and yet they're on a hotstreak with updates and collabs.

Please don't use words you don't actually understand.

Re: Banjo-Kazooie "Washer Banjo" Revealed, Here's A Sneak Peek

Elbow

Rare: "Banjo-Kazooie is just too dated, it wouldn't work in the modern era..."

Also Rare: "Wanna buy more merch from our ICONIC series Banjo-Kazooie?! Here's a deep cut figure!"

Say one thing, do another. I'm not upset BK is getting merch, but I AM upset that the blockheads at Rare are in charge of it. Seriously, how many figures and how much merch has BK been slapped on now compared to platformer rivals?

Sonic will be slapped on anything with a merchandising pulse, Mario the same as long as they can charge an absurd fee, those are given, but like... Banjo's up there. But they desperately pretend he's not.

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's Game Boy Library With Another Classic

Elbow

Until this moment I believed this was a pure 1:1 port of DKC to the gameboy... interesting. I sucked so bad at this game as a kid I never saw much of the new content lol.

@Bolt_Strike You might be waiting awhile. I don't think TPC would add them without being a separate re-release paid for some kind of premium. Pretty greedy sort over there.

Re: Anniversary: 20 Years On, Metroid Prime 2 Represents The Franchise At Its Experimental Best

Elbow

@GravyThief I played a lot of Prime as a kid, some Prime 2 (little in comparison) and I remember 3 being SUCH a jarring tonal whiplash from the first two that it put me off playing it. It felt way more scripted and on rails with all the dialogue and I didn't like it-- in hindsight I realize they were setting up the game, but I can agree it was a REALLY jarring change of pace from what I expected out of anything Metroid.

Re: Microsoft Talks About Extending Its Gaming Content To 'New Platforms'

Elbow

@HeadPirate I wondered for the longest time why Rare Replay never even so much as got a consideration of a port to PC. I guess this explains why, which is pretty heartbreaking but makes complete sense. If it'd been released a couple years later during the Play Anywhere push, maybe! (though I realize that would have ruined the 30-year anniversary aspect.)

Re: Some Fans Aren't Happy About Sonic X Shadow Generations' Changes To The Original

Elbow

I dont care for the changes but also am not incredibly upset about them. It's just another mandate that won't mean anything in ten years when the series gets another tonal shift. I guess I'm just apathetic at this point to idiot execs making decisions.

But, yes, Sonic fans will always complain. Some valid, some not, some 100% insane, but there will always be complaints.

Re: Metroid 64 Fan Game Blends Prime Mechanics With Other M

Elbow

Nintendo Life staff does this on purpose. So do other sites that report on these games while aware Nintendo will scream and roll around on the floor foaming at the mouth if someone even considers doing anything with their creations.

Just hope this article gets buried, fast, so the blood sucking lawyers don't find it.

Re: Another New Atelier RPG Is Heading To Switch Next Year

Elbow

I've only played the first Ryza but I really enjoyed it. The one issue I have with Koei as a publisher is that they rarely put games on sale, and with a mountain of Atelier games coming out at a rapid pace that stings on the wallet. It took them about four years to even put Warriors All Stars on sale again! They're so stingy.

Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge Gets A Fresh New DLC Update

Elbow

I am over the moon about this. I was unreasonably giga hyped for Shredder's Revenge and played it through far too many times. I yelled when I saw the release date trailer reveal Casey. I loved this, and the DLC, to bits. And now I have an excuse to replay it for the nine millionth time!

@LadyCharlie I think the reasoning is she wasn't in the 80s cartoon series. Then again, neither was Karai. Still, Venus has appeared in recent comics, so if the game can reach a third DLC, who knows? DLC 3 being Irma and Venus as playable characters would be perfectly insane.

Re: Nintendo And Pokémon File Lawsuit Against Palworld Developer Pocketpair

Elbow

@Bunkerneath The only reasonable answer as to why they took so long is that they probably pored over everything and checked as much as they could. They wanted as solid of a case as possible. Or, if you want a more cynical take, waited until they were safely rolling in all that cash so Nintendo could come and try to vacuum it up.

I personally hope Pocketpair comes out unscathed, but we don't know what exactly Nintendo is suing for, so maybe it will actually be something justified.

(Also, if you scroll up in the comments, you can find a ton of comments by HeadPirate who was doing a lot of sleuthing last night into the situation. Very informative stuff!)

Re: Nintendo And Pokémon File Lawsuit Against Palworld Developer Pocketpair

Elbow

@LadyCharlie Let's not forget that the original Pokémon Red/Blue had some shockingly blatant and shameless ripoff designs from Dragon Quest..
Jokers? I don't remember the name, but I know it was a DQ spinoff.

The real shock here is realizing Akira Toriyama was such a heavyweight that he even (unintentionally) helped set off the Pokémon craze.

But I agree, seeing TPC get a black eye over this one would be the best outcome. I have to assume though that they have been taking incredibly long and suing NOW because they think they have an airtight case.

Re: New TMNT: Mutants Unleashed Gameplay Trailer Is Packed With Bodacious Brawling

Elbow

This really looks like it'll be a pretty decent time. When it was first announced, I had no hope after seeing the publisher (and I was one of those that was not much of a fan of the movie, to put it nicely). Maybe they're turning a new leaf, or AHEARTFULOFGAMES is just really good. (Probably the latter. Heart&Slash is really good, I actually bought it due to the announcement of this game way back.)

Re: Sonic Fans, Don't Get Your Hopes Up For A Standalone Chao Garden Game

Elbow

Iizuka being hard headed as always. It can absolutely work, I remember pining for one during the Xbox 360 era. A standalone Chao garden game as a downloadable? Dude, no brainer. Take the VMU aspects, look at Monster hunter palico expeditions for inspiration without Sonic and pals. It can, would, and will work without having to grind City Escape 50 times for rings and chaos drives.

But no. He wants to stick his fingers in his ears and yell when considering something from outside of ST.

Re: Yooka-Replaylee Art Team Highlight Laylee's New Fluffiness In Remaster

Elbow

I liked the original, but so far nothing screams "this couldn't have just been an update for YL itself". Games can get engine upgrades now through updates, harder on consoles sure but possible.

I'm glad they're doing this, but I have to see VAST amounts of remixed and new content to justify doing this before a proper followup sequel, especially if its still being charged full price. I backed the original on Kickstarter, name in the credits (one of countless, fair) but this is still kind of a weird choice.
