Re: Editorial: Happy Holidays From Everyone At Nintendo Life

Crimson_Ridley

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays to you all!

However you choose to celebrate it, I hope you all have a lovely time.

If however, Christmas can be a difficult or traumatic time for you, please remember that time will pass. Hold on to anything good in your life and know that the world does not deserve to beat you. It's better with you in it.

Take care of yourselves, take care of your family and enjoy a well-earned break. 😊

Re: UK Charts: Metroid Prime 4 Falls From The Top Ten

Crimson_Ridley

As a huge Metroid fan, I can honestly say I don't think I'll ever go back to Prime 4. I finished it 100% and for the most part, I was just bored.

The characters had no personality and I couldn't even attempt to care about any of them. The ending felt rushed whilst trying to be emotional and it fell harder than a miss-timed bomb jump.

The green energy grind to open the final area was pointless busy work that learned nothing from Wind Waker's triforce piece hunt.

The main pull of Metroid, solving puzzles and opening secret areas to find power-ups was so incredibly easy, coupled with the ability to just have them show on the map, it took away all challenge of the game.

The enemies and bosses were just as easy to kill with the standard beam that it rendered using anything else useless.

The open world served no purpose other than padding out the time to get to another area because the developers knew they couldn't connect these areas with any kind of cohesion.

The upgrades were boring, even Samus' suit was dull and the Legacy suit was just a recolour with nothing added to it or any kind of wow factor.

This game was stuck in development hell and even after development was restarted, it looks like they sat on it for 6 years before even thinking of what to do with it. The game was clearly unfinished, slapped together and sent out just to get it off of the release schedule.

It's not a "bad" game, but a terrible Metroid and Nintendo's most disappointing game for a long time. As sad as it to accept, I don't think we'll see Metroid again for a long, long time.

Re: Mario Kart World's First European Online Event Gets Underway Later This Month

Crimson_Ridley

Oh yeah, Mario Kart World is a thing. I remember it being a Switch 2 launch title, but then somewhere around 8th June, it just seemed to disappear completely from my memory.

Nice to see some people are still plugging away at it. I'm more interested in knowing if Nintendo will add Double Dash to the GC library. Ahh Double Dash, once the ugly duckling to the fandom, you were always one of my favourites.

Re: Poll: Has Donkey Kong Bananza Made You Feel Ill?

Crimson_Ridley

I haven't experienced any motion sickness with the game. The only game I can think of that ever made me feel sick was Tomb Raider III on the PS1 when I was a child and since then I've never played it again.

I usually turn off motion blur and other camera effects if I can though as I find they can often make me feel a bit wonky.

Cases like these though do make me wonder why Nintendo is still one of the holdouts in giving accessibility options. Many games these days allow you to dial in loads of settings to make the game feel right to you and all I've really been able to do is move the jump button to B which should have been the default anyway. A to jump is mental.

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Bananza (Switch 2) - Absolutely Smashing, But Can It Beat Mario Odyssey?

Crimson_Ridley

Gorilla can jump
Gorilla can climb
Gorilla's new game
Only got a 9
Gorilla don't like
Gorilla gets mad
Gorilla smash everything
Gorilla is sad
Gorilla find girl
Gorilla hear song
Gorilla steal girl
BOLO out for Donkey Kong
Call the police
Sound the alarm
Take down this gorilla
Send him to the farm
I don't know where I'm going
With this silly rhyme
I'll have to stop it here
It's the end of my lunchtime.

Re: Of Course Mario Kart World Is Being Review Bombed

Crimson_Ridley

I've been calling the game average since day one and got 5 or 6 people jump in to say it's amazing for every criticism I had. Review bombing is annoying but you sort of have to go to these extremes to get your point across sometimes, else valid criticisms are lost amongst excess praise.

The game just isn't fantastic. It's good but it's not the evolution of Mario Kart that it's been said to be, it feels more like a few ideas greenlit before they were focus-tested and then added in without much thought for how viable they are.

Re: What Review Score Would You Give Mario Kart World?

Crimson_Ridley

7/10

The open world, the main draw in the marketing is pointless. They quite easily could have added the ability to start races with characters you drive past, events at the circuits on the map, a proper menu to show how many missions and medallions are in the world or anything that makes Free-Roam actually worth a damn.

As it stands, it looks like it was shoe-horned in just to stand apart from previous Mario Kart titles. When a mode could be cut from a game without diminishing that game in any way says a lot about that mode as a whole.

The Grand Prix suffers by having races that are just point-to-point to get to the next track.

Not being able to customise karts means that if you want to use a certain kart for how it looks, you'll suffer because the stats of that kart are completely rigid.

Overall, the game is good, it looks beautiful but rather than accelerating ahead of the other MK games, its tyres are spinning amidst everything pulling it back.

Re: Random: Is That The Zelda Triforce In Sonic Racing's Artwork? No, Probably Not

Crimson_Ridley

@Greenmanalishi Put the device down for a few minutes, get yourself a cup of your preferred drink and think about if getting this worked up over something incredibly insignificant is really worth the hassle.

You also have the option of viewing a different website if the writers bother you that much. There's plenty out there but I would argue that Nintendo Life is actually one of the better ones for not spreading misinformation and click bait headlines.

Re: Site News: We've Got A Switch 2

Crimson_Ridley

@Member_the_game You're going to the Smyths midnight launch, right? Have you had an email/text about collecting it yet? I haven't, but I'm assuming one won't be sent as I don't recall getting one on previous midnight launches.

Re: Poll: So, Did You Order A Nintendo Switch 2?

Crimson_Ridley

Going to Smyths tonight to pick mine up! My NeoGrip has been delivered today as well.

The OLED NeoGrip has made playing the Switch so much more comfortable, so I'm glad to see they made a Switch 2 version. It's also given me a general idea of the size of the Switch 2 as the Switch with grip on fits inside the Switch 2 grip!

Re: Nintendo Live Suspect Admits To Threats, Blames Being A Sore Loser

Crimson_Ridley

In a world where threats like these are often carried out, this guy deserves a harsh sentence. No matter how frustrated you are, you should never threaten the lives of innocent people. Doing so should rightly be responded to with a major penalty, as you never know if that person will action those threats.

People have killed for various insane motives and very often the trail leads back to things they've said on the internet. We don't need these people in society. Ruin his life as he threatened to ruin other's.

Re: Random: Ariana Grande Sang About Playing Mario Party And Mario Kart

Crimson_Ridley

I'm very disappointed in the quality of articles posted here lately. It lowers the standard across the site when this absolutely pointless rubbish is posted. Since Kate came on board, the site has turned in to a copy of Buzzfeed, and we're only a few articles away from it being just another clickbait cess pit.

You've tried to defend your reasons for posting stuff like this, but I have to disagree with them. These articles are not the sort of stuff you used to post, they're just fluff pieces with no discernable quality, and serve no purpose to the community as a whole.

If you have to place a disclaimer as ridiculous as that on an article like this, the article needn't exist at all. Saying "Oh, she has influence and mentioning Nintendo is a big win for us". Seriously? No it isn't, everyone already knows Nintendo, it's a household name. If she mentioned Sellotape, sales in sellotape isn't going to suddenly skyrocket.

Your only reason for this article is "She's a big name, she'll get clicks, that's all", because clearly by hiring a writer like Kate and the topics she has "covered", that's all you care about. You have PushSquare asking what the community would like to see, and on the other side of the coin, you have you guys telling us this is the kind of thing you like to put on the site. It's despicable.

It's such a shame to see such a reputable site tear down everything that made it great.

Re: Best Of 2020: There's No Shame In Playing On Easy, Even If You're A Pro

@The_Pixel_King

Hey, thank you so much for your reply, that means a lot to me that my words have made a positive impact on you!

I hope you feel better soon, and keep trying to be as strong as you have been for all those years. I understand just how difficult it can be. As long as we know we're not alone in this world, even as strangers, we can find our feet to take those all important steps each day.

I wish you all the best!
