Re: Unidentified Body Is Found Following Search For Missing YouTuber Desmond "Etika" Amofah

@ThanosReXXX

Thank you for your kind reply, it means a lot to me.

I wanted to pass along my experience and perspective to hopefully help people understand it a little more. Through my years of counselling, I have learned that one of the most important parts of overcoming and living with it is to talk about it as candidly as possible. Suger coating only serves to lessen the severity of a person's troubles, and makes people think they don't need to help as much.

We need to stand up and say "I am in trouble, I really need some help" and be ready to accept it when it comes. It's difficult, and even now I have days where I shut myself down on everyone, but I try to let that happen as little as possible.

Re: Tweet Analysis Reveals Controversial Pokémon Cull Has Fans Evenly Split

Crimson_Ridley

I think you'll find this with most things. Negativity is more publicised than positivity. One man screaming in an empty room would be more noticeable than a temple full of silent monks.

My personal opinions on the whole affair is that I really couldn't care less. There are way too many Pokemon now that this should have happened at each hardware change. I've only ever finished the Gen 1 and 2 Pokedex because it just got too much after that.

Re: Body Is Found Following Search For Missing YouTuber Desmond "Etika" Amofah

As someone who struggles daily with PTSD and has been in the hospital multiple times for suicide attempts, I understand all too well the process behind his thoughts, and the words he is saying. I have these thoughts near enough every day, and it's brutal.

I have written many suicide notes, explained my reasonings so many times, and thought about my choices over and over again. We see things so clearly in these instances, knowing that the choice we're about to make isn't the only one, but it's so difficult to come out of it.

He knows, as do I, that help is available, but pushing it away, refusing it and ignoring it just happens so naturally that we feel suicide is all that is there for us.

I belive that this man has lost that fight, and I feel incredible sorrow for him and his family and friends.

All we can do, as a collective, whether we struggle ourselves, know people that do, or not, is raise awareness and be ready to lend a hand or an ear if ever the situation arises.

I live in the UK and swear by the Samaritans. They will not judge you, interrupt you, or even tell you that you're wrong. They will listen as long as you need them to, offer guidance, or stay silent if that's what you need. I have their number saved on my home screen, so all I have to do is press it to call, or someone else can do it for me if they need help with me.

I implore people to do this if you struggle or care for someone who does.

Re: Want Resident Evil On Your Switch? You'd Better Have Deep Pockets

Crimson_Ridley

There needs to be a boycott on this kind of thing. I love the Switch and I love Nintendo, but this is completely anti-consumer to expect £30 for a remaster. Even if the publishers can decide their pricing, there should be an imposed limit on cost that Nintendo should be setting.

What ever happened to Platinum pricing? A remaster should be £19.99. If it was a remake, built from the ground up, it'd be different.

Re: Video Game Voice Actors Contemplate Strike Action Over Pay and Conditions

Crimson_Ridley

Anything that can cause damage to a person's body, be it vocal chords, physical, hearing, etc. should be taken seriously, and the pay they receive should reflect that. Likewise, if a game sells millions of copies, the cast of the game should also see some of that money. I remember an article once about how much Tom Cruise gets paid per movie, and it was an insane amount, but when you look at how much his movies gross, you can understand the wage he gets. In video games, I can imagine the pay isn't nearly as good for what is essentially the same thing as acting in a movie.

Besides, if the world insists on paying footballers as much as they do, it's not unreasonable for other workers in other areas to expect more.

EDIT: You know the funniest thing about this? If voice actors do go on strike, the only company that would be largely unaffected is Nintendo, as they rarely use voice acting for anything other than the odd noise from their characters.

Re: Gotta Collect 'Em all

Crimson_Ridley

Awesome! After a few attempts, I beat it with 92 coins, then I kept dying to the stupid spike at the end of the level (even though you could clearly see I was above it), but eventually I got all 100 coins!

Re: The Story of Humanity

Crimson_Ridley

I'm giving it a go now, and I've noticed one problem. When you enter the first door to the tree, if you move before the spring is shot out, you can miss the mushroom and then have to awkwardly bounce back past the spring to get it. You may want to move the mushroom or put it near the tree.

EDIT: Wow, pretty awesome! Took me a few attempts, as those leaps of faith a little too tight. Other than that and the mushroom , you've done a superb job!

Re: Nintendo Recruits YouTube Celebrities for Its Super Mario Maker 'Super Creator Challenge'

Crimson_Ridley

@night Their comments were hardly hateful, but yours definitely is. There is absolutely no need to speak of these people like that. All they said is that they don't know these YouTubers, and you just flew off the handle. These YouTubers are not going to thank you for defending their "honour", as much as you may think they are, so attacking people for them is uncalled for.

Re: Video: This Is What It Will Be Like To Play Guitar Hero Live

Crimson_Ridley

While the controller looks interesting to play, and will take a nice amount of practise, the stuff on the screen just annoys me. The whole thing looks tacky, cheap and boring, from the fretboard, to the notes, to the backgrounds. It looks horrible!

It's a shame because I used to be a Guitar Hero master, and played them about 99% of each day for years. Oh well, I still have Rock Band 4, which looks incredible!

Re: Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush to Roll Into Europe on 8th May

Crimson_Ridley

I fail to see why the title needs to be changed. Like Mario & Luigi Dream Team having the word "Bros" added to the end of it, or Sly Cooper being changed to Sly Racoon due to a slang swear word that I'd never even heard of living in the UK, this is a pretty pointless change.

As for the game, I'll certainly be picking it up as it looks like a lot of fun, and I've been wanting a game that I can just play with the GamePad for a while, as I only really look at it for VC games at the moment.

Re: Gone Home Console Versions Are "Not Actively in Development Any Longer"

Crimson_Ridley

OK, it's a decent game, but it's nothing special. It's critically acclaimed because it's a story about sexuality; a girl falling in love with another girl. If the game was about opposite sexes falling in love, it would be a run-of-the-mill puzzle adventure, with no exciting features, and nothing to write home about. The game was not reviewed on its merits as a game, but on its subject matter, which - let's face it - has been the subject of choice over the last couple of years. I'm not knocking it, not at all, but it's become one of those "Oh, a story about sexuality, again. Happy days." moments.

Re: Interview: Nintendo UK's James Honeywell Discusses the New Nintendo 3DS Launch

Crimson_Ridley

Nintendo really ballsed up my order. Pre-ordered on the 15/01, then had to change my card due to a security check, and Nintendo would not let me edit the details of my order until the billing date. I changed it and they didn't take any money until yesterday but I got an email saying it would be delivered by release date. Just got another email saying it's coming on Monday! Screw the UK store!

Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D (3DS)

Crimson_Ridley

For someone that apparently isn't bothered about MM3D, Ben_AV sure has posted an awful lot. Can't allow your views to be second best, can we?

I don't mind remakes at all, especially as they don't utilise all of a company's resources to do. Sometimes a remake can draw a new audience that has never played a game before in to the point that they become a fan of the series. For example, how many people knew of Scarface before the Al Pacino version? A small number, I'm sure.

Remaking MM is a good thing for Nintendo, as it's always pushed to the side and ignored so as to place more emphasis on OoT, when MM is an incredible game in it's own right. Nintendo survive through the love of their characters and worlds, and in an industry where flashy effects and big set-pieces are the order of the day, they struggle to compete. These remakes are needed because they can induce nostalgia in their long-time fans or old fans that have since moved away from Nintendo, and they can draw in new ones that will become attached to their games, and hopefully stick around for more. Obviously they'll also put effort in to new IPs, but a company needs to make money to do so. Games only make money for so long, and when new consoles replace old ones, you need to find some other way of sustaining that income.

You can't possibly get angry at a company for doing this, because it is such a small thing that needn't even bother you. Making this game does not mean that suddenly Nintendo put every division they have on hold until it's complete. It's incredibly naive to even think that.

As for people asking for this game over new ones, that's just the nature of human beings. When you go to a shop, you don't always try something new. More often than not, you'll go with that same flavour of crisps that you always eat, or that same pack of chocolate Hobnobs you've been gorging yourself on, even though Blue Ribands are on offer. We'll all try something new now and again, but we become comfortable and confident in the familiar. It's hard to spend money on something you don't know.

Re: Awesome Games Done Quick Raises Over $1.5 Million for Charity

Crimson_Ridley

@Nanamine - Bi-annualy means every it happens twice a year. The article writer was mostly correct, except it's Summer Games Done Quick in the Summer and Awesome Games Done Quick in January. There's 1 of each, though they are basically the same thing. SGDQ raises money for MSF (or Doctor's Without Borders), while AGDQ raises money for PCF (Prevent Cancer Foundation).

Re: Awesome Games Done Quick Raises Over $1.5 Million for Charity

Crimson_Ridley

It was a fantastic event, with some very memorable moments! To add on to the 2 that you mentioned, I would also recommend people to watch the Battleblock Theater run with the developers present(these developers are some of the funniest people in gaming), the Tetris Grandmaster run, Kaizo Mario World, Kingdom Hearts 2, and there is just so much more!
