Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #42 - Pikmin 2

Crimson_Ridley

You say the Europe cover is calming, but one Pikmin clearly about to fall to its death. 😂

I voted Europe purely for that reason, because the other Pikmin literally couldn't care any less, and that's hilarious.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Has Already Exceeded Nintendo's Lifetime Sales Predictions

@Monkeido

BotW does have RPG elements, and while your comment that without a levelling system it cannot be considered an RPG does have a lot of merit, it's more of a hybrid of an RPG/Action Adventure game.

For example, you can upgrade your gear in BotW, but you cannot in a traditional action adventure like Uncharted. Tomb Raider was originally more like an action adventure/platformer but in the reboot they included a levelling skill system to include RPG elements. Assassin's Creed has become an RPG hybrid as well.

Then you've got FF VIII that didn't even need the levelling system, as it barely does anything and is more about junctioning the correct magic to your stats to make your character more powerful.

In recent years, defining an RPG has become much more complicated as so many games utilise many elements from the system that it's hard to say what does and doesn't count. Same with JRPGs that now use a lot of systems from RPGs, and don't rely on their old systems.

When you have a genre that contains games that are so drastically different, from Dark Souls to Borderlands, Fallout to Horizon Zero Dawn, the waters get very muddy. Throw in the JRPGs as well and you might as well be swimming in oil. 😂

Re: Random: This Animal Crossing Nintendo Direct Video Would Be A Dream Come True

Every single one of those features are desperately needed, and it's a little ridiculous that none of these were even there to begin with. With the huge emphasis on crafting, being able to craft multiples of an item is a complete no-brainer.

Also, an option to skip through Isabelle's "no news" speeches! Why even put me through a loading screen to tell me you have nothing to say!?

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 4th)

@RonB It's incredible! I'm enjoying every minute of it. I'm about 9 hours in, and there's so much that's new, but doesn't take away from the original story, it actually fleshes it out even more and fits right in. I'm in love with the characters, especially Jessie!

I was so worried this wouldn't live up to my expectations being such a big fan of the original, but not long after starting to play, all of that doubt just faded away and I've become so engrossed in it!

Re: Random: Is The World Of Animal Crossing: New Horizons All A Lie?

Tom Nook was actually in so much debt, couldn't keep up with his payments, and lost his entire family as a result. It affected him so much that he tried to take his own life. Unfortunately, it just left him brain dead and in a coma, and now he's created a world in his mind where he's a debt collector, but is incredibly leniant with his debtors, and has given them an island to enjoy, creating a brand new family that cares for him again.

Re: Random: Animal Crossing Characters Rocking Out To DOOM Music Is The Video We All Need Right Now

@Razer I disagree. Your definition is entirely incorrect, a game can be anything, but in the broad sense of video games, it's anything that a person can play on an electronic device. A gamer is any person that plays those games. Skill has nothing to do with being a "real gamer", they're just more skilled at the games they play.

If a person is enjoying what they are playing, what right do you have to marginalise that person, just because they don't play what you do?

Take myself, for example; I play every game on the hardest difficulty and have completed what many consider to be some of the most difficult games ever made, but I'll also happily play Animal Crossing, puzzle games, and games that require little to no skill. I do not judge my status based on the type of games I play, only on the fact that I play games in general.

You have an extremely immature outlook on this topic, and whilst I can respect everyone has a differing opinion, it's one that I would expect anyone to challenge.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Street Date Broken, Inside Cover And Cartridge Design Revealed

Crimson_Ridley

@gloom Never said I was, did I? Do you do this often in your life, jump at the throats of others that disagree with your opinion? Try and insult to feel better about yourself? Perhaps getting a little bit of help with that will remove the gloom you feel inside, let you appreciate the finer details of yourself.

EDIT: To add to your retort, many games come out in different countries at different times, usually due to localisation. These are not exempt from your "theater production" analogy. Reviewers and guide writers play the games before everyone else, too. Again, not exempt. The game is ready to play, many have played it long before the official release date. The date is solely there for a company to forecast its earnings for that quarter, the consumer has merely adopted a mechanism like yours to accept it.

Re: The First Animal Crossing: New Horizons Review Is In

@BenAV From what I can remember of Skyward Sword, the parts I didn't like were the stamina system running out incredibly quickly (though I don't know if this is by design as Link is young and inexperienced) and I found the first couple of dungeons plain and boring. Beautiful looking game though, and I will go back and play through it one day as it's one of the only Zelda games I haven't finished (BotW being the other).

Re: The First Animal Crossing: New Horizons Review Is In

38/40 is a great score for a game that isn't to everyone's tastes. 9/10 or 10/10, there really isn't much of a difference, and I normally prefer to see 9s as every game has a flaw or two, or has something that doesn't sit right with someone.

I enjoy the Animal Crossing games, but after a while, each one has frustrated me with tedium at certain stages.

Re: Rumour: It Looks Like Luke Skywalker Could Be Joining The Cast Of Netflix's Witcher Series

Crimson_Ridley

While I don't agree with the claims that this is clickbait (Clearly, the character of Luke would not be put in the show), even as a rumour this is pointless reporting on. The website linked says they have a document, but then provides no evidence of such, so it's redundant.

In fact, the biggest take away from this is that Mark Hamill has no idea what The Witcher is! Bah, you think you know someone... 😂

Re: Mini Review: Lydia - One Of The Most Emotionally Impactful Games On Switch

Crimson_Ridley

I've just started it but I'm having a weird control issue where Lydia keeps walking forwards on her own. I can't seem to replicate it in other games, so I don't know if it's my joycon or the game.

Did you or anyone else have anything like this happen?

EDIT: Nevermind, it started doing it in Pokemon Shield too when I move up and right, so it's definitely my joycon... Just what I need...
