Re: Soapbox: Ignoring The Objectification Of Women In Games Won't Make the Problem Go Away

Crimson_Ridley

I don't find this sexist at all. One thing you'll know about males and females is that they find certain body parts rather attractive. Having a girl with big breasts is just the same as having men with overly muscular torsos. Do they never think that it might be insensitive towards slimmer men? No, they only care about how they are being portrayed.

Let me tell you something else; many women store their phones and money in their bras to keep them safe. How is this picture any different to that. The only people that find these things sexist are the sexist people themselves.

Re: Mario And Zelda On Mobile Could Bring New Players To Nintendo Consoles, Suggest Industry Analysts

Crimson_Ridley

Man, I miss living in a world where gaming news didn't have to revolve around smartphone and tablet "gaming" all of time. It isn't the holy grail of the gaming world, no matter how much the media and analysts try to convince us so. It's awkward as hell to play and doesn't feel natural unless you're playing a puzzle game.

Nintendo don't need to port crap to the dark side of gaming, they just need to be more aggressive like they were 10-15 years ago. They've become complacent, and comfortable behind the pack just doing their own thing. Nintendo thrives when they have someone to compete against, like SEGA. Ever since SEGA went to disc based systems and then dropped out of the console market, Nintendo hasn't had a true competitor (yeah, they went against Sony for a while, but then the PS1 was primarily competing with the Saturn as the N64 was a cartridge based system, and later the PS2 had Xbox to contend with) to really get their teeth in to. They've gone through multiple innovations that no one else has challenged (at least not directly, as the Kinect is a different kind of motion control and the Move is... well, it's not really anything) so they've had a portion of the market to themselves.

They need to fight their way out of their comfort zone in the "Nintendo part of the market", and start chomping at the feet of the market leaders to really get people to notice them again. They should demand to be seen, considering they are responsible for us all doing what we do today.

@unrandomsam you rate a game on how good it is, not how much it will appeal to people. If a game is made for a niche market (Beyond: Two Souls, for instance), but it still amazing, it deserves a justified review score. If the game is similar to previous entries, but is still a fantastic game it should be rated as high as well.

Re: UK Retailer GAME Less Than Happy With Rivals Ignoring Pokémon X & Y Street Date

Crimson_Ridley

I can't be upset that UK retailers broke the date, because I don't believe they realised the 12th wasn't Friday. When has a game released on a Saturday in the UK? Tuesdays and Fridays are when we get games, so I'd assume they just thought Friday was the official launch.

Time zones also meant that the world didn't get the game at the same time, so Nintendo's idea was doomed from the start. This really isn't a big deal yet has had far too many articles posted about it.

GAME is only jumping to the defense of Nintendo because it's desperate for exclusive content.

Re: Video: A Punboxing of The Wind Waker HD Collector's Edition

Crimson_Ridley

I'm a huge Zelda fan, but to be honest this looks very disappointing. £60 for such a small figure, a plastic case (they could have gone for glass as it looks much more attractive) and a game that should only retail for £29.99 seems like Nintendo is giving a massive middle finger to the fans, knowing they'd pay out for it.

If the figure was a few inches bigger, and the price was £10 less, I'd be a lot happier.

Re: Wii U Price Cuts Only Brought Modest Additional Sales for Asda and Amazon UK

Crimson_Ridley

The Wii U launched with a lot more games than the 360, PS3 and Wii did. Let's see:

360 - 7 in Japan, 18 in NA and 15 in PAL territories.
PS3 - 6 in Japan, 14 in NA and 24 in PAL territories.
Wii - 10 in Japan, 21 in NA and 12 in PAL territories.
Wii U - 11 in Japan, 31(may be a bit over here) in NA and 24 in PAL territories.

In each launch, a lot of the games were ports from another console. Go back a few generations and you'll find they released consoles with much less (SNES with F-Zero and Super Mario World, anyone?).

The system has quite a large library of games to say it's been out for less than a year. I don't think it's through a lack of titles that people aren't buying the console, but rather the fact that gamers prefer the same old games on the same old system that all their friends play on, and aren't willing to try something different and allow Nintendo time to make quality games. CoD only takes less than a year and you can rehash the same genres on other consoles very quickly.

People feel safe sticking with what they know and are comfortable with. It's unfortunate to realise that this generation of gamers doesn't care about new and exciting experiences, and just want the tried and tested formula.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Financial Results Tell a Tale of Two Systems and Bold Ambition

Crimson_Ridley

@bezerker99 Don't be stupid. Nintendo is not doomed. They've got enough money to survive multiple failed consoles. The Wii U isn't doomed either. The games will come, developers will take an interest and things will pick up.

People look at the low numbers and convince themselves not to invest, because they think it'll be a poor choice, thus keeping the numbers low. I made the decision to buy a Wii U, and even though I have to wait for some games, I don't regret my decision at all. In fact, it was a much better investment than the Wii ever was, with loads more to do and I can play the games from that console.

Re: Miiverse Update Adds Tags to Posts

Crimson_Ridley

I enjoy Miiverse, though I do wish people would spend a few moments typing their posts to a more acceptable level. I get sick of people asking if there's going to be a Wii U Zelda (hint: you're on an internet-enabled device. Look it up!), and general stupid questions.

I really like looking at the drawings people make, and the quizzes people play with other people. The 200 character limit is too limited for me, because I refuse to shorten words if they can't naturally be shortened. As a result, I can't give a detailed explanation of my reasons for liking or disliking a game, and I can only argue the idiocy of begging for Yeahs to a certain extent. A 500 character limit would be very welcome.

I look forward to the 3DS Miiverse launching, because perhaps then I won't see so many posts about the Wii U being crap, not having enough games to play, and being a pointless investment (I disagree with all of these, except in part about not having enough games. I find myself in the VC more often, but I'm waiting for the big games like Pikmin 3).

Re: SNES Platform Hero Plok Makes A Long-Overdue Return

Crimson_Ridley

I love Plok, one of the best games on the SNES. If they bring a VC version out, I'll laugh at how difficult people find it. Save states will ruin the experience though. You had to play through the entire game in one session to complete it.

I was watching SGDQ2013 and they were speedrunning Plok, and I was sickened by how many people had never heard of it. At least 4 people here know of it. Plok is much better than Rayman, and deserved much more recognition than it received.

Re: Nintendo Blames 2011 Tohoku Earthquake For Sluggish Wii U Performance

Crimson_Ridley

There's an awful lot of bitter trolls in here today. It's very easy to read a title of an article and fly in to a tirade of inaccurate accusations about Nintendo, isn't it? However, have you thought about really reading the article? You would learn that they are only saying that because they moved development mostly to the 3DS after the disaster, the Wii U development cycles became much longer. They aren't pinning the blame solely on the crisis, they were trying to ensure that they had their affairs in order, as the country began to rebuild.

Re: The Famicom Turns 30 Years Old

Crimson_Ridley

This is awesome! I've just bought a Wii U and it'll be delivered tomorrow (15th in the UK). This marks the 30th year since Nintendo released their first home console, and the day that I got hold of Nintendo's most recent home console.

Happy Birthday, Famicom!
