There wasn't anything "scary" about this game. But it can be ridiculously difficult, especially for someone that didn't come straight from BoTW. ToTK doesn't do a super good job letting you know all your abilities, which is part of the fun but amps up the difficulty if you didn't know pulling your bow while jumping put you in bullet time
I wonder what the skill level would be for this. My 4 year old LOVES Paw Patrol, and has mostly been able to play Tears of The Kingdom. She can't read or fight enemies, but she loves exploring
Dungeons and Dragons has been around for 50 years. You aren't old, just not part of that fandom.
Critical Role is the top paid Twitch channel, abd a group of voice actors that range from Fire Emblem to Naruto to The Last of Us. If you play video games or watch anime, you've probably encountered several of the cast members.
They are collaborating with Nintendo of America to do a "one shot" (a DnD session that only lasts for one session, as opposed to their usual hundreds of sessions) and they are setting it in Hyrule. Most likely taking the ruleset for DnD 5th Edition (5E) to create a story and characters that could exist in Hyrule, but with structure and rules they're familiar with. 5E is a super flexible d20 based system that has seen many properties incorporated into it. There's a Star Wars 5e, Final Fantasy 5e, Pokemon 5e. They're all fan made games that use the bones of DnD 5e to great success. Basically you could Google any IP that interests you followed by 5e and someone has tried making it.
One shot is at least ttrpg exclusive, it implies that a single session will contain the entirety of the story they want to tell.
I, for one, am extremely excited. I love DnD, I love Zelda, and this will have Liam, Mercer, and Emily Axford? I'm sure she won't be able to completely get up to her shenanigans but she's hilarious
Seems dumb to patch out something like that. If people buy the game, and there isn't an online competition, why does it matter if people want to duplicate items and not be forced to grind for stuff?
It's fun to build and mess around, it's surprisingly and annoyingly difficult at times when you find yourself against enemies you didn't expect, and it doesn't feel like Zelda.
But the fusing, ultrahand and the rise (can't remember it's name) abilities are all fun to mess around with. I'm honestly surprised with how much I'm enjoying this game, especially compared to BoTW.
I still hope to see a return to OoT style at some point, but this game is still fun
"When someone bashes zelda and they finish their sentence with I'm a long time zelda fan or and it's my favourite series, you know their full of crap. Like why do you need to add that just to validate your comment"
I wouldn't take it as them being full of it, I would take it as them being a long time fan that feels this new direction isn't the style they have loved all these years, are are sad to see it go that way.
while others are still shocked that this is actually a "Zelda" game
A video of an orbital laser canon, a mech looking warrior, blue spirit looking dudes, and link in not a green tunic all fighting a three headed dragon. If you showed this to anyone 10 years ago, they would have said no way this is Zelda
All I hear from you is that you aren't willing to actually listen to other people's opinions unless they say ToTK is the greatest.
I don't know how else to say it, the game is fun but not what I want from Zelda. A FPS pokemon could be fun, but if they went that direction and said they're never going back then that'd be a shame.
You said exactly what I feel about Zelda, just about Pokemon, yet you can't understand others having that same opinion?
>It’s also sad to see how much time these grownups choose to spend trashing things they dislike rather than investing that time in finding things they like…
I'd gladly waste time wailing and trashing a game that went from my favorite franchise of all time, to the point that I wanted to name my daughter Zelda, and Instead turned into a completely different game.
I'm enjoying ToTK, it's a fun game, but it isn't Zelda to me. I miss the 3D OoT style, it's my favorite game, and I'm sad we won't get more
It's crazy, but we're definitely at a turning point here. I much prefer the OoT 3D Zelda feel, but this younger generation gets their turn at what Zelda means to them.
Trying different things has been really fun. Still doesn't feel like a Zelda game, but going in with that mindset made it easier to swallow.
But doing minecart builds with fans and trying to stick doors as wings to jump a broke part of track (and failing pretty badly) was hilarious and a blast
I agree with the shade being thrown at BoTW, I only played it through once and that was on the WiiU. But ToTK looks to be a mix between BoTW and standard Zelda stylings. Dungeons, bosses, side quests, music.
Also, I despised Link Between Worlds because of the rental system, until I recently went back to the game. It worked really well and I have since shifted my opinion, it became one of my favorite 2D Zelda titles
Oof that's me, I didn't love BoTW. But seeing mentions of better music, more populated Hyrule, and more traditional dungeons, I'm excited to play ToTK.
It reminds me of Phantom Hourglass, which I was pretty meh on, yet Spirit Tracks came along and I loved it
Do you need cases and booklets to get the trade-in value? I have several of those games, don't play them anymore and would gladly trade them for Zelda. But I donate my cases and booklets to used game stores
I'm surprised it's still making that much. I quit a while ago (only a few months), and I don't know anyone who played other than that one fateful summer when it first released.
Must be the younger crowd, not us old guys. I spent a tiny amount of money at the very beginning and that's it
I went from disinterested to now slightly piqued. I love Zelda, but BoTW wasn't my cup of tea. I'll definitely be getting this one as well, but I still hope someday to get more of an OoT style Zelda again. Linearity can be a good thing!
I did what things I felt like doing: most shrines, collected some gear, messed around with dyeing gear and what not, got the master sword and hylian shield, beat the beast things, then decided that's enough. Beat Ganon and didn't touch it again. This was back on the Wii u, and I played it for about a month. Explored and all that, but it just didn't call me back in like Skyrim always seems to
Rediscovered Zelda: Link Between Worlds. Originally I had rated it pretty poorly, for its lack of structure and deviating from the standard process of weapon and item collection. I have since changed my mind, this game is fantastic. Plus the use of 3D is incredible, such a solid game. Probably my favorite top down Zelda, followed closely by Minish Cap and Link to the Past
I would assume those are two different groups, nobody would flip that easily. There are still plenty of haters out there, but the people who enjoyed it are finally voicing their opinions
@MitchaK After a certain point, you just want to get to the town. Encounter after encounter makes the games drag. FFVII and IX I believe had similar features
"more of the same" is what I wanted, but not more of BoTW. I wanted more of the same from previous iterations, more of an OoT, TP, WW game and less of a BoTW

Re: Nintendo Highlights The History Of Zelda's "Mighty Demon King" Ganondorf
Twilight Princess Ganondorf was super BA. His design, his anime bbeg feel, using that sword

The hd remake for sure. It injected so much charm

I agree on all counts, but they've stated that this is the Zelda formula going forward. So OoT style is no more

I agree, a true WW sequel that isn't Phantom Hourglass would be really fun. Something between that time and Spirit Tracks.
