I voted “don’t know” because the options give two viewpoints each: if we think we’ll see them in the future (I do) and “I love them” or “I’d buy a few”. I definitely think we’ll see more, but I won’t be buying them. I bought Link, Zelda and Samus from smash bros as a single purchase probably 9 years ago and they just weren’t my thing
Man, what an ugly boxart. I know it’s supposed to be showing the 3 DLC and all that, but it’s poorly executed. Still, I love the board game so perhaps I’ll buy the special edition if it plays well on the Switch
“The reason for this discrepancy is simple: Three Houses expanded the fanbase by shifting the focus away from its strategy elements, whereas Engage doubled down on its strategy roots.“
This isn’t true for me. The reason I enjoyed 3 Houses more than Engage was the characters, writing, story beats. Engage didn’t have any of these, at least not memorable ones.
Crashed Frigate from Metroid Prime is a fantastic underwater level. Eerie, dark, the haunting music, and then once you get the gravity suit it really opens up. But that music alone should make it on this list, such a beautiful tune
Now that iOS allows emulation, I’ve been digging into GBA and DS games. This week has been mostly Pokémon Platinum. I played through Pearl YEARS ago, and never got Platinum so it’s been fun.
I’m also dabbling in FF VI Advance and Metroid Fusion, but just barely
Hurts to see Four Heroes of Light so low (or high?) on this list. It's such a fun game, with unique mysteries and characters. The storybook aesthetics, challenging gameplay, crown system, wizard mouse, it's all so good. If my DS would hold a charge, I'd replay it today
In my 30s now, I seem to enjoy FFV the most. The gameplay is fun, job system especially. Then IX, mostly for the characters. My current list would be 5, 9, 6, 3, 4 Heroes of Light
Bravely Default was a lot of fun, I didn't play the sequel on DS but Bravely Default II was a blast. The classes, the music, speeding up the combat, the locations. The enemies running away from you when you got too powerful!
The only gripe I really had was Seth's story not really making sense (in the begining he washed up and was apparently from a different world, with no memory).
Looking forward to either a Bravely Second for BD2, a remaster of the first game, or an all new entry. If it's a mobile game then I'm all set
I've been looking for more easy breezy games that I can play with my 4 year old, so it sounds like the simple controls will work out for that! She can't read, but she loves Mario RPG and replaying through the low level sections of Octopath 2 as a level 60 party
Man I'm absolutely loving Octopath 2, that game is phenomenal. I also really enjoyed Octopath 1, Triangle Strategy, and Bravely Default 2. So all the Square Enix games I have on Switch are all bangers
I love gen 1, but they definitely don't need more remakes and revisits. Unless it's a whole new story in that region, I'm fine with a good ol fashion re-release
I was so ready to argue with you. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Engage. The combat was fun, the Engage system felt fun, most of the characters were enjoyable on the battlefield.
...But then I realized, I don't think I ever beat it. I played decently far in, but don't remember any story beats. I don't know where I left off, what any of the characters names are, any locations. As much fun as I had with it, I haven't picked it up in months and don't really feel like doing so now. It's a fun, but forgettable, game.
And that's so crazy to me. I know I had fun playing it, but somewhere down the line I just stopped and never came back
I went with Metroid Prime. But really, it would be erasing the GameCube version from my memory and replaying the Switch version for the first time. I played through it and loved it, but spent the whole time just checking what felt the same and what was different. I'd love to have been able to just play it as if it was my first time, it's just a fantastic game
I didn't enjoy BoTW, and ToTK lost me before I even finished the Sages quests. Zelda has always been my favorite series but these newer games don't do it for me
Have you Googled "mongame"? It takes quite a while before a hit related to monster collecting games, and even then it's a guys YouTube list or a deviant art list. Nobody calls them that
@Anti-Matter Oh man forgot all about Gestalt Mode. I'd love to revisit FFXIII, but I think I'd especially want to see a pixel version with a return to turn based, just with the FFXIII characters, story and locations
Double Dash!! 2, with more Smash Bros characters, special items for each unique pairing, story mode that can be played split screen, and maybe rotating cups to keep things interesting
@the_beaver Oh for sure it's a matter of taste, my main point was that it's less likely for someone who DIDN'T grow up with certain games (especially NES/SNES/ OG Gameboy) to appreciate them. I didn't play much N64 at all as a kid, so those games don't hold up. But PS1 games, that look just as crappy, do for me.
That's probably my nostalgia talking. Ask someone under 30 how much they like DKC2 and I'm sure they'll say Tropic Freeze is better, but to me DKC2 is the best platformer of all time.
The controls for OoT were revolutionary for its time, but with dual sticks and more intuitive controllers these days, they could be upgraded. Graphics could be definitely improved. Add features, inventory items, more collectibles. Lots can be done to improve and justify a remake
@smithyo That was exactly my point, though. SNES sprite based games? Still look great. GameCube games? Showing age but still great, no super weird controllers. N64? Early polygon games look so crappy now, it's tough to go back. I tried on the Wii eShop back in the day and it sucked. 3DS version came out, and suddenly OoT was a top tier Zelda game for me
I didn't grow up with an N64, we went from SNES to GCN. So going back as an adult and trying to play N64 games, without any nostalgia connected, I can definitely see why someone would say any N64 game is unplayable or doesn't hold up.
Thousand Year Door, then Super Paper Mario. I haven't fully played through the og, and I'm not a fan of Color Splash or Sticker Star. Origami King was ok, just not the combat. I never got around to trying the Mario and Luigi series

Re: Talking Point: Would You Want To Reuse Your Joy-Con On 'Switch 2'?
I’d like to reuse my joy cons, but they’ve all suffered from drift. Plus some of the older gray ones have a hard time staying synced
Re: Review: Endless Ocean: Luminous (Switch) - A Meditative Marine Milieu, But Incredibly Shallow
Sounds like an awesome $10 game, but not worth the price tag.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (27th April)

Metroid Prime Remastered is such a great game, I may have to pull it out and replay it

Same here. I didn't notice it had renewed and it was a few hoops but surprisingly I got my money back

Re: Talking Point: Should 'Third' Pokémon Games Make A Comeback?
I agree with the majority here: it should be a single game, and that single game should be more polished.
Re: So, Will You Be Getting Princess Peach: Showtime! For Switch?
Me and my 4 year old daughter really enjoyed the demo, so perhaps down the road we'll get the full version

Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online Game Boy Advance (GBA) Game Ranked
Man. I've probably said it here before, but I would LOVE a remake and a sequel to Minish Cap. That game was a lot of fun, with so much charm
Re: When Will The First Nintendo Direct Of The Year Be? Let's Look To The Past
@SwagaliciousJohnson
100% with you here. Twilight Princess, Wind Waker and Metroid Prime 2 on Switch would satisfy me for a while. Especially with Paper Mario on the way
Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's GBA Library With Two RPG Classics Next Week
I've only played the first one, but really enjoyed it. Is the second one also good?

I didn't even know there was a movie, I'll have to check it out!

You said "gems", but then listed Color Splash...? Must be a typo 😝
That game was good to look at, and I loved the color idea, but once again combat was a big miss for me.

Re: Poll: What's The Best RPG Starring Mario?
Thousand Year Door, then Super Paper Mario. I haven't fully played through the og, and I'm not a fan of Color Splash or Sticker Star. Origami King was ok, just not the combat. I never got around to trying the Mario and Luigi series
Re: Talking Point: Which Zelda Game Should Be Adapted For The Movie?
Twilight Princess seems the most likely to me. It's a slightly more grounded entry, with dark fantasy and medieval stylings.
