I believe the core tenets of Metroid, especially the prime series, are isolation, melancholy music, exploration, and mysteries surrounding an alien race. Prime 1 and 2 nailed that feeling for me, Prime 3 missed the mark. I really hope these NPCs are more of the “hang back at the base” type guys while Samus does all the exploring

Finally snagged Hogwarts Legacy on Switch at a great price, so I’ve been plinking my way through that. Fun game!

Donkey Kong Country 2 has always been my top game

I’ve always loved Metroid Prime 2, but that box art for NA looks so lame. A super bland and stiff pose that just looks off, where Japan gets a clean straight on shot that works a lot better visually.

This suit looks SO SICK, easily shoots up to top 3 for me behind Light Suit and Prime Gravity Suit

I got the opposite feeling, the slow prodding and mystery gave me so much MP1&2 feeling. I’m so pumped for a lonely trek through a mysterious planet, and that main overworld theme that played throughout was beautiful

FF 5 might not be the best story or have the best characters, buts it’s a FUN game. The job system and classes are just fun to use

I just started Echoes of Wisdom, while also playing some Metroid Prime and Metroid Dread. I’m also delving into Stormlight Archives book 5, so good. Should be a cozy new years week for me

I loved 4 Heroes of Light, such a cozy little game. It does seem to spike in difficulty but that’s my only gripe

I’ve been with the series for a long time as well, and 3-9 are absolute legends while 10 and 12 were harder for me to get into. 13 was a slog of hallways with awesome combat ideas sprinkled in (13-2 was fantastic though), 15 was garbage to me, and I don’t have a console to try 7:R or 16.

I’m just glad we have some turn based games, like Octopath and Bravely Default, to scratch my old school final fantasy itch because they’ve changed too much for my interest

Ah ok. Perhaps a text based campaign could suit you? There’s a subreddit for that, called r/PBP (Play By Post). It’s all anonymous and behind your screen

There are a lot of sources to play online DnD! Subreddits called LFG, roll20 has a game finder as a player and a DM, and your local game shops and library will usually have casual in person campaigns of you inquire! Other than that, there’s the classic route of calling on family members, I play mostly with my cousins

I really like the idea of the controller working in portrait mode, and the joycons attaching that way. The stacked images are how it works on my emulator, and it works really well

For some reason, the Xenoblade games never really grabbed me. I tried X on Wii U, and Xenoblade on Switch and neither were my cup of tea

I was fully intending to download this, as I see no problem with ROM hacks of old out of print games; that being said, 90% of the sprites are joke sprites and it just looks dumb and goofy. So I’ll pass, I was hoping it’d be a nice hack with updated 2dHD sprites or something

Oh man, I love the Luminoth and the Lights of Aether. Such a cool design for a race, hope we see them again

I personally couldn’t stand DKC3. 2 is my absolute favorite platformer, and to go from that to 3 was so disappointing. I don’t even know why I hate it, I can’t remember any one thing

I say no more Tingle in the main line games, and no more kids with super long snots hanging out. I hate that lol

As much as I love Twilight Princess, the only good character designs are Link, Wolf Link, Midna and Zelda. Everyone else has such a hideous look

Three Houses, but Engage wasn’t terrible. It was just forgettable in the story department, and the characters felt AI generated. Assets thrown together vibes for me.

Where Engage really shined was the combat; I loved the boosts and transformations, plus it was really slick looking and feeling

The Tales series is one that keeps tricking me. I got Symphonia a while back, Abyss on 3DS and more recently Vesperia on Switch. And each time I think “THIS is gonna be the Tales game I enjoy”, and then end up dropping after a pretty short time.

Nothing for me this week, I just got paper Mario so I’ll be twiddling through that for a while. If Luigi’s mansion was a $30 game I’d be all over that though!

I have a hard time getting into NES games, they dont really hold up for me. I’d much rather see SNES Remix or the likes

I enjoyed it on my 3ds, but I don’t think it warrants a $60 price tag. If they do a sale, or a Nintendo Select, and sell it cheaper then I may purchase it

Feels like you missed the point of the article.

Nobody is wishing for a Zelda clone, the point is Nintendo has seemingly moved Zelda in a different direction from the standard traditional style of play. So they raise the question: what series could step up and fill that role while Zelda continues to change?

Totally agree. A key element to Metroid is getting upgrades. Wouldn’t be very fun to have every item right from the start, and that’s part of what I didn’t enjoy from BoTW and ToTK.

I voted “don’t know” because the options give two viewpoints each: if we think we’ll see them in the future (I do) and “I love them” or “I’d buy a few”. I definitely think we’ll see more, but I won’t be buying them. I bought Link, Zelda and Samus from smash bros as a single purchase probably 9 years ago and they just weren’t my thing

This isn’t true for me. The reason I enjoyed 3 Houses more than Engage was the characters, writing, story beats. Engage didn’t have any of these, at least not memorable ones.

Crashed Frigate from Metroid Prime is a fantastic underwater level. Eerie, dark, the haunting music, and then once you get the gravity suit it really opens up. But that music alone should make it on this list, such a beautiful tune

I’d like to reuse my joy cons, but they’ve all suffered from drift. Plus some of the older gray ones have a hard time staying synced

Sounds like an awesome $10 game, but not worth the price tag.

Metroid Prime Remastered is such a great game, I may have to pull it out and replay it

Now that iOS allows emulation, I’ve been digging into GBA and DS games. This week has been mostly Pokémon Platinum. I played through Pearl YEARS ago, and never got Platinum so it’s been fun.

I’m also dabbling in FF VI Advance and Metroid Fusion, but just barely
